I found Melinda while vasilating between acupuncture and massage therapy. Melinda works at The Dental Spa which is the dental practice of Gary Sasaki, DDS, MS. My first experience was a fifteen minute complimentary chair massage.This is one of the massage options Dr. Sasaki offers to dental clients to help soothe and calm the experience of the dental visit. From that encounter I realized that she is a top notch therapist. I then booked a one hour table massage. Melinda worked on my upper back and shoulder area. This area holds much pain, tension and stress for me. She knew the exact amount of pressure to apply and hit every knot and kink. By the end of that one hour I felt calm, serene, pain and stress free. In my opinion, massage therapy is a medical necessity, not just a treat. And Melinda is my choice of therapist. read more

I went for a crown placement as soon as the state regulations were lifted. I was pleased to see that everyone was wearing a mask. They checked my temperature before I could go in. I had been a patient of the Dental Spa for over 25 years until I found out from them that I needed to have a tooth removed and decided to get a second opinion and go with a holistic dentist because I have allergies and wanted to make sure that my tooth was replaced with dental materials my body was not allergic to. I wasn't entirely happy with this outcome and was considering returning to them when I was assigned an appointment with Dr. Benjamin Miller who had recently entered the practice. I was shocked when Dr. Miller unprofessionally acted in an angry and hostile fashion in response to my getting a second opinion from him, which struck me as being highly unethical and unprofessional. He issued an ultimatum that either I get a completely new set of X-rays, when I had recently taken some with the other dentist, and get irradiated unnecessarily in order to appease him and in order to stay in his practice. Putting someone at additional risk for cancer from unnecessary radiation to receive treatment did not strike me as responsible or ethical - he was comfortable for unnecessarily irradiating me to make money and appease him. Since when is getting a second opinion not acceptable when it is obviously good medical/dental practice for any prospective patient to protect themselves. There is an ongoing epidemic of unethical behavior and practice with within the medical/dental communities including unethical practitioners gouging patients with overpriced/unnecessary procedures to enrich themselves, frequently subjecting and putting patients at risk for profit? Sasaki's unethical practice guidelines strikes as worthy of being reported to their professional board but I did not do so as I liked Dr. Gary and Ryan Sasaki and had been considering returning to them. Fast forward a year later when I contacted them again to have my teeth cleaned - I had been told I needed an extensive, expensive deep cleaning by the holistic dentist and was again considering returning to Sasaski's practice and wanted a second opinion about the state of my mouth but expressed that I did not want to see Dr. Miller. Three weeks after I scheduled the appointment with Dr. Sasaki's office ter I received a message from their receptionist to call as they had cancelled my appointment. I was told by the receptionist that Dr. Ryan and the hygienist felt it was "best for everyone" according to the receptionist if I just saw my current holistic doctor, unceremoniously dumping me. Their "my way or the highway" practice by which they apparently operate their practice are in direct conflict with basic health care ethics and patient rights to get a second opinion. Dr. Sasaki's office has sadly left basic patient rights and ethics behind and I for one would not feel comfortable going to a practice that is outraged at getting a second opinion - and would question their ethics and motives. If you go to healthgrades to see the reviews, you can see that they are longer the practice they once were and others are complaining about them being unethical. read more

The Dental Spa was an amazing experience with complimentary hand massages and paraffin wax for your hands as well. My concerns were addressed and I was quickly made a new appointment for the next step only 1 week later- something that is often difficult to do at other offices in the area. My only complaint is the finance woman checking me out. When I told her I wanted to pay the next week when I came in, she became cold and stated multiple times they stray away from billing rather than paying in person. Their finance policy that I signed only an hour before states you have up to 60 days to pay your balance in full, so I'm not sure why it was an issue to pay only a week later at my next appointment. Other than that I had a wonderful experience and look forward to my next dental appointment for the hand massages (and fillings...) ;) read more

UPDATE: 5 stars for cleaning and spa, 3 stars for dental work. I still go here, and after a couple of years, the cleaning and spa part continue to be great (more props to Melinda). I do think, however, that if you need serious dental work, this may not be the best choice. My friend's experience with crowns by Dr. Sasaki's son was ok (no real problems, but he was unresponsive with some of her concerns after they were done), and it took me multiple visits for them to adjust my bite guard. They finally got it to how they wanted it, but I prefer my old one from another dentist. Still, it's usable; it's just not the same small profile as my prior one (and I told them this). Because serious dental work outweighs cleaning and spa (which, after all, you could do elsewhere), I decided to change my ranking to 3.5 instead of rounding it up to 4. ***************************************************************************** I was referred to the Dental Spa after spending years at Gentle Dental (which, by the way, is a meaningless rhyme that does not translate into their actual dental care). For routine cleanings, the Dental Spa is just as advertised. From the moment you walk in, the desk staff is courteous and professional. The waiting room and environs are clean and pleasant. My hygienist was friendly and efficient from the intake to the exam to the actual cleaning. She uses the water cleaner machine and only resorts to the Marathon Man metal tools for small areas that need extra work. Feel free to politely decline x-rays, if you feel that you had them recently enough. And the spa part? They offered me drinks and snacks while waiting, but you can take them on the way out if you prefer not to have crumbs in your mouth before a cleaning. I got a paraffin wax treatment for my hands before the exam and a hand massage during the cleaning. And all was covered by dental insurance. There is no extra charge for the spa services, so it won't affect your insurance or your out of pocket if you don't have insurance. As always, the dentist himself came in at the end to do the final check, and I thought he was really pleasant and reassuring. He didn't push any services but gave me information I asked for regarding whitening. Their specialty there is cosmetic dentistry, so apart from cleaning, I wouldn't target them if you have hard core dental issues. When leaving, I got a gift card for first-time clients. Instead of Home Depot or Target, I chose one for a free massage, which I just availed of today. The hour-long massage by Melinda with a focus on neck and shoulders was fantastic, and I've had massages in Asia with preternaturally strong itty bitty women. She was able to apply deep pressure in all the right places, and I wondered if she was some kind of mind-reader in determining where I was sore or if she could really tell the problem areas just by touch. As a bonus, she wouldn't accept a tip at the end, saying that everything was covered by "the doctor." Good boss, I guess, and for me that translated to a totally cost-free massage experience. read more

I've only been once (for a cleaning), but my wife has been three times already (cleaning + other). So far, so good! Everyone is very attentive and seems to really care and want to know you as a person (not just another mouth walking in the door). The equipment and procedures are up to date. I have not had a single better experience at a dentist in my 26 years of life and seriously can not say enough good things about this place and EVERYONE who works there! After YEARS of TMJ/TMD debilitating pain (where it even got to the point of my face becoming asymmetrical) I FINALLY found someone who got to the root of my problem, instead of covering it up with muscle relaxers and pamphlets of relaxation techniques. I am so happy I decided to take a chance on this place- They really know what they are doing and know how to make a patient feel comfortable. They are VERY affordable and every single staff member goes above and beyond to give you an amazing experience.
