I have used The Design Firm for two homes, and I plan on using them for my next home in the future. My husband and I have been nothing less that satisfied with their services. Kara was a dream to work with. Her personality is more addicting than chocolate. About their process... It's different from most interior designers. They don't charge hourly. They also store EVERYTHING for your project in their facility until it's time for the installation. This is nice, so you aren't dealing with items being delivered one at a time or having to leave work so they can drop off something, and the room slowly makes a transformation. Instead, with them its ---BANG!--- MASTERPIECE. And it really is. Every time my husband and I walk through our front door I smile (or sigh in relief, it all depends on what kind of day it's been). Kara's creations are unlike anything you will ever see. My friends and family "ooh" and "aah" when they see her work. It's indescribable. She also does everything within YOUR budget. That's furniture, window treatments, rugs, accessories, art, plants...everything. And she's not going to drag you around to 40,000 stores trying to find pieces you like on your weekend when you would rather be spending time with your family or using that precious time to get a pedicure. She has everything at her fingertips. (I get the impression that she's a very powerful woman in the industry.) The Design Firm plans it so that all the annoying fees, like taxes, freight, shipping, assembly, all fit into the budget so there are no nasty surprises at the end. I don't like surprises. My favorite part of the process was the "PRESENTATION." They take you into this special room with all your fabric swatches, wood samples, accessory samples, art, and even a couple throw pillows. They also have renderings (an artist draws different points of view of the room with the furniture and color selections) so you are able to picture how the furniture is going to be laid out in the room and the overall atmosphere. After the presentation, the next couple of weeks I spent waiting for my install date to arrive was like a six year old waiting for Christmas. I was beyond excited. I have used The Design Firm twice. They were recommended to me by a friend of mine, and they did a fantastic job for her. I was just as thrilled with what they did with my house. I worked with Rachel and Kara. They came to my house to assess what I already had and spent a lot of time talking to me about what I did and did not like. The time that they took allowed them to get to know me and they completely got my taste. The first job was to completely redo the downstairs - formal room, family room, dining room, entrance, bar, and breakfast area. They managed to completely transform my house from floor to ceiling. Prior to starting the job, they showed me pictures of their ideas, along with prices. I thought that the prices were VERY reasonable. They even used many of my old pieces which saved me money. I have 2 boys, 2 cats, and a large Doberman, and they made sure that everything not only looked great, but would be very durable. I was so pleased with everything, that I had them redo the upstairs the following year. Again, they did a perfect job with matching my tastes and I was amazed at the outcome. Every day that I come home, I feel so relaxed to be here. If I ever move, I will have them design the inside right from the start. We chose to work the TDF as a consultant for a big remodel! The home we remodeled was built on pier and beam in the 1950's. So, this house needed a TON of work from the inside, out. Kara and Mary, along with the rest of the support staff (rendering artists and digital illustrators) helped us come up with a solid plan, executed renderings and detailed drawings for our contractors, helped us make informed and economical selections and finally, created a home that feels fresh and new again. All of this whilst remaining true to the original design of the home. Which was an early request of ours! This company was honest about timelines and detailed with our plans and overall project. I cannot tell you enough how much this helped make our first official "flip" a wonderful experience with minimal hiccups. Hiccups happen but solutions are what count, and TDF made every effort to help us through the project and provide creative ideas and easy communication. I am truly amazed at how beautiful The Design Firm made our house. We did an initial project last year for our entry way, living room, kitchen, sun room, and transitioning our study (which I rarely used) into a music room for our kids. Wow is all I can say. The process was amazing. The result was even better. They started with an interview at our home where they took tons of photos. The next step was a presentation to show my wife and I what they envisioned. They had a few hand drawn, to scale renderings, as well as samplings and photos of the furniture, rugs, and accessories. Great presentation. Once approved, they ordered all the furniture, etc. for delivery. They came one day and put together our house in its entirety. Amazing. My house is beautiful. Kara has a contagious, amazing gift. My wife and I hired The Design Firm a few months ago to guide us through an overhaul of almost our entire house, one phase at a time. The TDF teams professionalism, enthusiasm and talent were evident immediately. WE LOVE THE DESIGN FIRM!! We were so thrilled with The Design Firm's work in our home in Houston that we couldn't wait to work with them again in our new Austin home. In both cases we loved that the designers spent time with us in our home in order to really understand how we live and what we love in design. We loved that we could see our design beautifully displayed in drawings and samples before the work began. Megan was delightful to work with and the design was perfect for our home and lifestyle. Well, I hate to disagree with the previous review, but in this case I just have to. The gals over there are just about excellent, I am a single father of two kids, working full-time and going to school full-time. So their no fee turn-key operation was nothing but a life saver. The design work that I was presented with was second to none, and in my business I have worked with a lot of interior designers. Let me tell you that the way they do business is unlike anything I have seen in the city. My designer was excellent, asked me what my tastes were, likes and dislikes and led me down the path of pure bliss. My interactions with management and the owners there was also a great experience. Very few people really take pride in the work they put out in today's business world and Kara, Eric and Melanie really put their best foot forward when dealing with people, and truly caring about their experience. Contrary to the other review that is posted here, I must say I have been completely impressed by the level of service I have received from this company. When I first approached them to do my design work for my new living space I was a little apprehensive as I thought they might be way out of my budget. It was very refreshing when I saw the design and proposal was actually less than what I expected to spend, and this was for my kids bedrooms, living room, kitchen, master bedroom, both bathrooms and accessories and art!!! What more could you ask for? I never had to ask for a discount, it was just very fair and value priced from the beginning, and they actually cared how my rooms looked when they were done. Very professional staff. This company is great! They completely catered to our style and schedule. Kara has a gift with interior design and added really cool and chic aspects to our project, making the design unique. I felt included throughout the entire process.
