I have been wanting to try this place for years and was glad to be in the area to finally check it out. It's a small, cozy spot tucked in a strip like shopping mall area. It was quite busy when we arrived on a late Sunday a.m. in January. Tables were filled and there was a line for ordering. We decided on a tomato cheddar soup and the Churn it Up sandwich with Havarti and provolone. We were told the wait would be 40 mins, giving us the option to wait it out or go elsewhere. We stuck it out and the food was at our table in less than 20 mins. The sandwiches were ooey gooey toasted cheesiness and paired perfectly with the creamy tomato soup. It came with a lighty dressed arugula salad. I had a freshly brewed ice tea and my dining partner got a Dr. Brown's soda. The breakfast rush was soon over but people were still coming in to eat and grab take out while we enjoyed our meals. They also offer beers and wines and hot chocolate. The entire place was very clean, including the restrooms, although I did not see any table wiping going on. Staff were smiling and polite. This is one of those rare places where the reviews absolutely do not match reality. We wanted to love this place - the reviews are so stellar and the location is super cute and clean, and unlike most places in the area there's plenty of parking. The food however is mediocre - I can make better sandwiches at home and in a lot less time without having a commercial deep fryer. Service here is so unbelievably and painfully slow and while there were a handful of people who came in at the same time (around 1:25 pm the Sat before Xmas) the line wasn't out the door. The woman I assume is the chef's mom as others have mentioned seemed sweet, but the staff they have are s l o w and pretty clueless. One girl came out with a hot drink in hand (we ordered to go) and she just stood in front of us at enough of a distance that we weren't sure if she was looking for us or someone else. I tried to make eye contact and she avoided it, but she was just frozen there for a long enough time that I finally said my name to see if the order she was holding was for me. She just stood there looking at me with this blank expression, so I repeated the question - "for Pam?" She never responded and instead just handed me the drink. Gave it to my daughter who took a sip and said it wasn't her drink- she looked at the cup and it had Dubai something on it and we had ordered the hot cocoa. So up to the counter I go and the owner's mom was so soft spoken I couldn't hear what she was saying. Turns out the order was supposed to go to someone else. Ok, no big deal they got us a new one. Same strange delivery from the same girl who didn't want to speak. Meanwhile we waited for 25 minutes for 2 sandwiches and an order of fries. We stood to the side and watched the kitchen and we could see that the chef and his assistant were aware that the help wasn't getting the job done efficiently. Eventually they both stepped in to help the teen get things moving and out to the waiting customers. I went up to ask about our order and she told me that they make everything fresh to order and it takes 15 -20 minutes per order. It took almost 30 for ours - so mom gave us a free drink for our troubles. Get in the car and tuck in and neither sandwich was very good. The sauces were nothing great - the roast beef sandwich had a sour flavor to it and the texture was off. The pork sandwich had no flavor at all, it was just sweet. The pork itself was bland and plain. We didn't finish the sandwiches. The fries tasted good but they were a little bit dry and mealy. Genuinely don't understand how this place has such a high rating other than people want to like it because of the mom at the register. read more

I really like this little place! It's almost always crowded, but that's because the food is so good! The staff is very friendly and helpful. They really care that you are satisfied and take time to chat with regulars. I tried the ham and cheese this visit along with a side of fries. The sandwich is enormous, so you really don't need the side but go for them anyway. I really liked the cabbage slaw and mustard sauce in the sandwich. My wife and I have been coming to The Dilly Duck Shop since they opened, and it's become one of our absolute favorite spots in Norwalk. Phyllis is always so warm and gracious in her greetings, she makes the place feel like a true neighborhood gem. The atmosphere is a perfect mix of modern simplicity and cozy, cabin-like comfort. But honestly, even if it weren't such a welcoming space, we'd still be here constantly because the food is INCREDIBLE. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but I do have my go-tos. For breakfast, it's the Yogurt Agave Bowl when I'm being calorie-conscious and the Double Classical when I'm not. Next time I'm ready to indulge, I've already got my eyes on the Bravas Fries. For lunch, nothing beats the Rotisserie Roasted Beef Sandwich with 24-hour onions...I'm practically salivating just thinking about it. To drink, I'm partial to the Fizzy Palmer, and their coffee is consistently top notch, the highest quality you'll find. We love this place and hope it's around for many, many years to come. This place is truly amazing. It's a breakfast and lunch spot that's owned by a son and his mother. The food here is fresh, flavorful and it's absolutely delicious. I came in with a friend today. I had the Pork Stack and it was truly phenomenal. The rotisserie pork was a 10 out of 10. It came with two sunny side eggs, bacon and potatoes that were served over a bed of arugula.My friend had the Classical breakfast sandwich and loved it! Walked in on Saturday around 1pm and the place smelled mouthwatering. There are small tables to the left and the counter straight ahead. Small line, but took a while. We placed our order and then sat down. Waited about 15 minutes and a young lady brought our food. My husband got the roast beef and I got the tuna fish. We shared fries and I got the homemade lemon fizz. My tuna fish was delicious. The lemon fizz was a bit strong but shared it with my husband and added some water, perfect. We both agreed the fries were really good. My husband wasn't so thrilled with his sandwich. I tried it and thought it was good, but have to mention it was a bit rare. I don't mind, but for someone who likes his meat more well done, he didn't enjoy it. I would say try it, and judge for yourself. The cashier was the owner, because she came over to ask how we liked the food. Clearly she cared and that was appreciated. Clearly, a very popular place with delicious food. Dilly Duck Shop ("DDS") has a 5 Star rating with over 200 reviews. It was #4 on the '22 CT Yelp Top 25 Places to Eat List. I could go through our food order (the breakfast Bravas Fries, the Lemon Fizz, the Special Corn Muffin with honey cream, my son's Bacon, Egg and Cheese) in detail and explain why it was all very good. But with all the prior praise, I don't need to do that. Instead, I'll highlight DDS's next level service. I met Phyllis, who modestly referred to herself as, "the chef's mother". I'll refer to Phyllis as one of the best front of house people in CT. She takes orders at the counter, and then acts as a service concierge for the rest of your visit. Phyllis was more than friendly. She cared. My 10 y.o. son wanted a Bacon Egg & Cheese sandwich, but he only likes American Cheese. He and I discussed away from the counter whether DDS has American Cheese. I suspect, in all her multi-tasking, Phyllis instinctively knew to keep a helpful ear open. I ordered and asked whether they have American. She whispered, "No, but our cheddar is very mild. He'll think it's American." Phyllis instantly got it. If she hadn't whispered, my son would have heard. Since she communicated just with me, she allowed me to pull one over on my son. Which is what the situation called for. There may be one or two other people in the whole state, who (1) would know to reassure me that their Cheddar Cheese could pass for American, and (2) would say it quietly so my son wouldn't know. You know what else? Even though DDS was fairly busy, Phyllis came over and talked to my son, and made him feel special, thereby distracting him from potentially noticing the cheese WAS NOT American. She made me feel special too. And her son, Chef Russ, also came out and made us feel special. Top Notch Service. This will sound made up, but I swear it's true. Stopped in for the first time this morning. Outstanding is all I can say but I'll add more. I had a 2 egg sandwich with ham and cheddar on a brioche roll which came with a small lightly dressed arugula salad. I added a side of smashed potatoes which was also excellent. Finished it off with an Americano. The woman who took my order and served me was so pleasant and helpful with the menu. She told me the chef trained at the CIA and that explains how great the food was. I expected the store's space to look like a deli, but it's more of a casual restaurant with a really nice vibe. I can't believe I've lived in the surrounding area for so many years and haven't stopped here before. To be fair, it's in an older strip mall which is somewhat hard to find despite being on Route seven. It's somewhat pricey, but well worth it. we'd seen the rave reviews and since we were in norwalk, decided to stop by to see what the hoopla was about. we were sorely disappointed. frankly, we think the reviews for this place are skewed because the people running the shop were really nice - but the rave reviews are not warranted based on the food, which was overpriced and very average. we ordered their famous roasted beef sandwich, their roasted pork sandwich and their fries. their fries were cooked very well but undersalted and almost flavorless despite all the herbs. the pork sandwich lacked seasonings and flavor and the pork was a bit dry. the beef sandwich was just... ok. maybe their other items are better but based on our experience today (with some of their more popular items) we wouldn't come back. read more

Cute sandwich shop at the very back of a strip mall. Seems like it's being run by a mom and son duo (mom on cash register, son cooking in the back). We ate in, and there's about seating for ~25 people total at the tables. Between three of us we got 2 sandwiches and a side and fries and that was plenty. We got the rotisserie beef, which came with cheddar and "24 hr" onions, and the tuna. The beef was soooo tender and juicy, and the melted cheddar was perfect. The tuna was good as well! Maybe not the best tuna I've ever had, but still good flavor. Fries were addicting, had some rosemary on them I believe. I also got the lemon fizz which was so refreshing!! What a cute spot to have a breakfast. Phyllis was an excellent host. She makes this place feel extra special. The Quiche of the Day was awesome. Very light and fluffy served with greens. The Veggie Stack is also great. It comes with two eggs and thick layer of roasted veggies, crispy potatoes, arugula and tomato. The entire shop is clean and bright. Lot's of tile work throughout. Prices are just a little on the high side, but the quality of the food is excellent. The shop is located off the beaten path, just past the Walmart in a small strip mall with plenty of parking. Went for lunch - have the best, and I mean the best quiche ever! Even if you don't like quiche, you will like this. The eggs were so fluffy, it was like eating a cloud. The broccoli rabe was perfectly cooked - not bitter, nor overpowering. The cheese was flavorful without being heavy or greasy. I can't stop thinking about this 4" high, light, delish quiche. It was served with a simple arugula salad - perfect. Hubby had something that was like poutine with an egg on top. He couldn't stop raving about it. Honestly, he said it was so good, it was better than my quiche. But I didn't try his and he didn't try mine bc we both really like what we had ordered. (I'm sure the quiche was better. Hee hee. My second time here and it definitely merits a review. This place is *fantastic* The breakfast menu is terrific and couldn't help I ordering the same thing both times...the Rana and the potatoes. The tender crisp veggies in the egg sandwich with the havarti cheese are magical. The potatoes are hearty (we bring them home and serve with dinner!) and have some delicious thinly sliced shallots on top.
