I stopped here at 11:45 am on a Tuesday and the place was packed. I took the last open booth in the place. My server came right over and took my drink order. When she returned with my drink, I ordered a bacon double cheeseburger with fries. The menu was not that large and was lacking typical diner meals. Normally I don't order burgers, but that was the best-looking thing on the menu to me that day. She returned with my burger after a short time, and I was excited to see it. The bun was very fresh and not typical for a burger bun. Under that the bacon looked fresh and meaty, not your typical bacon on a burger. The meat patties were nothing special, but I must tell you, this was a good hamburger. I really enjoyed it. As far as the French fries go, they could use some help. If they would cook the fries longer, that would greatly improve them. They were undercooked in my opinion, and very disappointing compared to the burger. Overall, this is a nice diner in a very old building. The wait staff was good and as far as the food goes, I would stop here and eat again, and I would get the burger.... I wanted to start my day trip with a breakfast from some place that was off the beaten path and one of a kind so I chose this place. This place looks old school on Main St with high ceilings, lunch counter and booths along the walls and it's very tight. The menu is small and cheap with the usual breakfast items. I wanted to keep it simple today so I got 2 eggs, sausage links and toast. Since I was not having hash browns to soak up my yoke I got my eggs over medium which were perfect. The toast was Texas and nicely done. The sausage links were skinless that were tasty and reminded me of the Farmland skinless links. I'm a big fan of the toast sandwich so I put the sausage and eggs on my toast for a breakfast sandwich which was good. A great cafe for early breakfast in Fond Du Lac. It's like stepping back in time with old style breakfast counter and red vinyl booth style seating. I had the corn beef and hash and eggs, cooked just the way I ordered. The coffee was brewed to a good medium, not to dark or watered down. Service was great. A great way to start the rainy day. Food was decent but the booth , number one , was almost impossible to get into and I am of a size that would not normally make this happen . I've never been in such a tiny booth in my entire life , and my husband is six four so you can imagine we were in tight quarters . Collage girls run the place with Connie and let me tell you they're no saints . Rude when they realize they're the ones that messed up youre order and try to put it on you . What happend to customers always right ? They're is no sense of respect from those girls . Cute little spot that was jam-packed on a Saturday morning. A good problem to have for a city like Fond du lac. The food was good and service fine for a busy morning. They have enough of a demand but you need to keep the customers you already have, happy. Suggestions: -Get rid of some of the tables. We walked in at 11am and did not even order until 11:40. OR Get rid of the last bar section and put up a display case to sell pre-made goods like pies, donuts etc. -Purchase another grill; it was 11:53 and there were 9 tickets still waiting to be done. Adding a grill behind a display case might be nice for those who "don't want to know how their food is made". -They have a pretty limited menu but even removing a couple of the more random things could make food prep smoother. Disclaimer: I haven't gone a weekday morning so maybe these aren't such big issues. Good things: -The butter sauce try put on all their roasts. -The prices, I would hope are perfect for Fond du lac. -There was a definite effort to keep things clean. This past weekend was our first visit since new ownership. This was always a frequent stop for me as a child with my now past grandpa. I intend to do the same with my little as it has the same amazing atmosphere, food, and customer service with extremely friendly prices. Only issue I had with my first visit under new management is the way the staff and owner treated the cook during our visit. As they all sat and visited and giggled talking crap about how terrible the cook was doing, he was working his butt off ( struggling at that, but none the less TRYING) trying to cook all by himself for the entire restaurant. A little bit of humility, empathy, patience, and help go a long way. If I had been treated the way that cook was treated in our 30 min visit as an employee, I would quit on the spot. Y'all are a TEAM, treat each-other better. I personally went out of my way to let him know I appreciate him and that he is doing good for you! What a great little diner located downtown Fond du Lac. Went there on a Friday morning around 9:30am and every booth was taken. We were lucky there were some spots open at the counter. This was a hot spot for the older locals and they were all to themselves, unless you say hi to them yourself. Our service was super quick. My friend said it was too quick as our server never let our coffee cups go empty. The food is simple and cheap. Eggs with any side of meat that you want for a few bucks. I got a $4 breakfast sandwich and that was one of the most expensive items on the menu. I also got some corned beef as a side. The food was great when you consider it coming from a dinner. There was four of us and our bill together was $23! Yeah, that's cheap. Only downside was you're going to end up smelling like the food as the kitchen where the food is cooked is in front of the counter. I love this place! When I left Fond du Lac in the summer of 2013 it was called Joan's kitchen. It is one of the very few places where they actually know how to cook over medium eggs properly! So when I arrived I saw that it was now called Connie's who used to work for Joan. The food is still just as great as ever but I do think the coffee is actually better now. Oh, and Connie put in new barstools at the counter. The place seems to be doing very well under Connie's new management because it was packed the whole time I was there.
