Another Fabulous Breakfast at The Diner in McMinnville Rating: We had another wonderful breakfast at The Diner in McMinnville. Our party of 4.5 was lucky to snag a spot on a typically busy Saturday morning; we must have hit the "sweet spot" because we arrived just before the line formed. A typical wait is 20-30 minutes for a table on weekends, but the food and service make it well worth it. We were greeted and seated quickly, and I really appreciated being offered a choice of seating. We opted for a booth, which worked perfectly for our little one in a booster seat. What made the visit truly special was the owner playing peek-a-boo with my grandson--such a sweet, personal touch that shows how much they care about their guests! The Diner is well-known for its boozy breakfast options. Our table enjoyed a Bloody Mary, Boozy Mimosas, and a Tequila Sunrise. All the drinks arrived quickly and were enjoyed tremendously. For the main course, we ordered: Breakfast Sandwich: Served on a soft, fluffy muffin with bacon and a perfectly cooked egg. Pork Chili Verde (Special): Served over cheddar grits with fresh salsa, crème fraîche, and crispy tortilla chips. Absolutely INCREDIBLE! Chicken Fried Steak: A family favorite that resulted in a "clean plate" as usual. Crispy Chicken Club Sandwich: Another lovely, solid meal. My husband and I went to breakfast there this morning, and as usual the food and service was awesome! I had the Bacon,Tomato, Parmesan quiche that was on special this morning and it was amazing! I have had quiche there before, and you won't find better anywhere. Because everything is made from scratch in house don't expect your meal to come out to you before 20-30 minutes. Nice location! I am partial to diner food. I love the comfort of good old griddle cooked breakfast foods. I mean who doesn't love a short stack with a couple of sunny side up eggs, a side of bacon, and some hash brown done crispy?! However this is not that kind of diner... A smaller more sophisticated version of a diner is maybe a better interpretation of this venue. A bit of a leveled up menu, a much neater, then your average dinner, appearance, and no "Flow the waitress" or "Mel the cook". (Now those are some very old tv references!) The location is small... so get here a head of the rush otherwise you will be waiting. The menu has some good options... I chose the spicy chicken which was cooked well, had good flavor, and the fries on the side were delicious. (They even have some specialty sodas available... small glass bottled pure cane sugar type that are very good! Even though Alice was not here (another throw back reference) this was a very pleasant surprise. Good food, a nice location and very good service. Well worth venturing over for a taste! read more

We waited a good 30 minutes but that's normal. This place has a specialty menu that is worth the wait. It's small but mighty. I happened upon this spot and I am so glad that I did. The atmosphere is friendly and small family welcoming. They baked goods are incredible and I will be back here again. I am nostalgic for the place this was before Covid, where Hubby and I ate lunch semi-regularly since they opened. It doesn't hold up to that standard any more - similar menu, very different food. Service was good, mushroom and swiss burger was good. But the fries were barely warm, and the "Avocado Toast" special was not special at all - stale bread with the tub-style avocado spread with way too much lime (not sliced or mashed whole avocado, as it should be). Super good! I had the biscuits and gravy, it was good but my husband had the Benedict with fried chicken and I had a bite and it was SO good. I definitely will get that when we come back and try other things too! Wait was about 20 minutes and well worth it and service was great. Glad we found a new breakfast spot close to home. read more

From the looks of the menu, they will have fancy espresso at the end of this month/early February. You can skip to the photos but read on for our great experience. We were seated right away but Ive heard this place can have quite the wait during peak hours. The inside is small and cozy. The offered a variety of drinks (including alcoholic one). I was tempted by the Bloody Mary but I opted for a chai with steamed milk and it was perfect for this drizzly day. The menu is simple but I still could NOT decide what to order because everything looked great. (Meaning I'm coming back to try more...) I ordered the fried chicken and bacon Benedict and my husband had the corned beef hash with a side of biscuits and gravy. Portions were generous and we both couldn't finish it so we boxed it up. Lesson learned for next time though, I'm going to strategically put half my breakfast or lunch away and eat a pastry there. They had a variety of muffins and this apple streusel coffee cake. Whoever baked that deserves an award. The employees here are wonderful and I loved hearing them laugh and enjoying work. It's always a good sign that the food will be good if the workers are happy. I don't know how I found this place but I sure am glad I did. It's in the most inconspicuous space it could be and yet it sticks out like beacon rock. The place is always crowded so there is no great time to go. Just take a chance and go for it. I am guessing the hospital and the motley right next store supply a good amount of business.The location gives it an advantage because there are really no other options around. If there were any options I don't think they could compete. You have a little kitchen that is pouring their heart into everything they make and serve. Locally sourced goods and vegetables. Today there were Peach crapes and a Chicken special that sounded delightful. I'm sure it's delicious because we had the hash the breakfast sandwich and the eggs Benedict. All super and not just the best but the unable to finish best. You know how you keep taking one more bite and then another and keep saying I'm full but it's so good? Yeah that's the food here. There is no Sysco truck pulling up with the same tire frozen food. They are buying it fresh and whipping up great stuff. A definite jewel in the Nile. Next to the Hospital and the Clarion Motel. It stands alone as the best place in McMinnville for breakfast easily. read more

My husband ordered the special omelette, and it turns out it was $21. The server also didn't mention the up charge for the special bread of the day and for a side of fruit. We ended up with a charge of $26 for an omelette--way beyond what we'd be willing to pay if we had known. read more

After spending the morning at Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum, it was time to hunt down some lunch. Finding the Diner just down the road was providence because the sky opened up a can of downpour and we rushed in from the parking lot. We waited a short bit for a table to clear and I was worried that we were getting close to closing time (2pm), but no worries, they were still seating and serving. Checking out the chalkboard specials was all we needed. Everything is made from scratch (and it shows), so you know it will be good. The soup of the day was a creamy butternut squash and it was fantastic! Except that my wife ordered it and I regret not ordering my own. It had what looked like an oil drizzle on top, but the server said that it was sage brown butter and it really kicked up the flavor. Dip the toasted house made sour dough bread in it and then use it to completely wipe the cup clean when you get to the bottom. It's that good. The Avocado Toast was 2 hunks of sour dough with generous avocado spread and topped with beets, radishes, alfalfa and a surprise perfectly poached egg. The egg made it extra rich and a very fresh tasting lunch dish. My meatloaf sandwich was a heavy duty meal with big slices of ground beef wedged in toasted bias cut sour dough slices. Accompanied by a ton of tater tots, it was a way bigger meal than even I could handle. I ended up taking half of it home and enjoying it again the next day. read more

Th Diner is anything but what you would expect from a diner. The food is farm to table and everything is made to order and delicious. Everything is freshly made, even the breads which were outstanding. Even my decaf coffee was excellent. We had breakfast there for the days that we were in McMinnville. No big menu, but enough to suit our food needs. The staff is quite nice. The only negative is for people in a rush. Service is good, but since everything is made to order, it takes time. read more

The atmosphere is quaint, the staff is super friendly, and the food is amazing. Any excuse to have diner food is the perfect excuse for me, so I naturally gravitated towards their Hashes, Country fried steak, and Biscuits & Gravy. Ended up settling on their Corned Beef and Pastrami Hash which was incredible. Portion sizes were huge, as you would expect. However it was the flavor and quality of ingredients that truly stood out. They smoke and braise their own meat and I truly believe that it makes the difference. Every bite was crazy tender and melted in your mouth. Top that with a runny yolk and it was perfect. My only note would be that I would have liked some kind of acidity to cut through the heaviness of the meat, potatoes, and yolk. read more

The has browns were perfectly crispy as well. My husband had the biscuits and gravy which were also amazing and the portions are quite large so we ended up taking food home. TL;DR: They nailed it with their name & sign - this is a classy place with the perfect diner food! I feel so lucky that most of my experiences lately have been 5 star and The Diner yet another winner. I went at 10am on a Sunday, which is peak brunch time so I was anticipating a wait. While they were definitely busy, we were seated right away. The food menu was great and their drink menu was expansive! The food options all have a full and half option which was wonderful. They also have all their specials on the wall. I got the half order of their standard breakfast - egg, english muffin, hashbrowns, and sausage. They have 3 different types of bread, 3 different breakfast meat choices AND like 5 different potato choices. My friend got the biscuits and gravy. As you can see, it was so yummy we forgot to take a picture until we were almost done! Everything was perfect and the biscuits and gravy are now in our top 5 in Oregon. And on top of the amazing food, the staff was beyond friendly. Everyone checked on us multiple times. We never wanted for anything. Our water and coffee was constantly topped off, everything was quick, and they all seemed so genuinely nice. Their name and sign are truly the epitome of this restaurant - friendly staff that makes you feel like family, classic diner food but made fresh and without the "greasy spoon" feel we've come to expect. This place was FANTASTIC! Stopped by after searching Yelp while on the road from Newport going back home. There was a detour which made it a little difficult to get to and we didn't call in a reservation, but they were nice enough to accommodate us. Everything is fresh (maybe even locally sourced) and made from scratch. I was so excited, by the time I got my food I forgot to even take any pictures. I ordered a half portion of the beet salad minus the goat cheese sub cheddar...it was delicious! All of the flavors went well together and I am sure that with the goat cheese it would have been a special touch, but I just dont care for it personally. Also had the chicken strips which were hand made with house made fries. The ranch was delicious as well as the Portland Ketchup Co. ketchup. My friends were very happy with their food choices as well. Excellent quality food...DELICIOUS...and affordable. This place is not necessarily on my normal travel routes, but I will absolutely be trying to come back as much as possible. I would love to try the dinner menu.
