They have a decent beer selection but sadly, I had to ask twice for my beer after I ordered it, and didnt get it until after my food had arrived. I ended up having to ask someone other than my server because it was very clear she wasn't going to remember. I watched her seat another table after me, and she was so good! Explained that it was happy hour (she didnt tell me, I didnt know, and definitely would have ordered differently if I did). She brought their drinks right away as well. I think it was maybe because I was dining solo, so she was working harder for the larger parties for tips. Disappointing. I ordered French onion soup. It was lacking flavor. Warm, and cheesy, which is important but the broth watery. I also had some garlic buffalo wings. Some of the wings were great, but some were quite rubbery. We were seated in their bar side area with a nice view of their whiskeys and beer taps, within moments our waitress had drink orders placed and came back for food requests shortly after. I'll lead in with the good, The kids tenders were crispy and served with a nice helping of fries. Kid approved, she said they were Thumbs up. Now we'll move on to things that were pretty average, The bacon cheddar burger was cooked to request and served with a handful of fries. (We had 2 of these ordered) for the size and cost there could have been more fries or the patty a little thicker The Philly cheese steak, same decent helping of meat on the sandwich and side of rice pilaf The chicken spedie, one skewer of chicken with a few Veggies, some rice , Greek salad and some naan. I think coming from the city, we had a specific expectation of diner food and as our first meal in Rochester, this did not meet standards as much as we wanted to. We each got drinks during HH, which was a plus and they were great! Our friend's boneless buffalo wings were also a hit, either spicy or mild flavors. We had a birthday party for my brother-in-law and eight of us ate at the original Distillery on Mount Hope Avenue. It's been a while since I had been to this location, but it seemed about the same. The service was good, our waitress was nice and she split the bill up after we Finished because we had three different families there. She also put the Yankee game on which I appreciate , even though the Yankees were getting their butts kicked! I ordered the Friday fish fry, which was a huge piece of haddock with pretty good french fries is not the crispiest ever but they were good. And coleslaw on the side. It was a tasty dish overall. My wife ordered the chicken wings and I guess they were really good because she didn't offer me any -lol! She said they were very good. They had quite a selection of beer and drinks there too. The food here is very good. Their Cajun alfredo pasta was very good quality for the price. The portions of this dish was smaller than expected but still decent for the overall cost. One night after leaving Highland Hospital after sitting with my husband all day and not eating, I tried to place an order with The Distillery. The app didn't work so I called and was told they were closing soon. I told the young man who answered I had been at Highland all day with my husband and had tried to place an order on their app. He said they were preparing to close but asked me what I wanted. I gave my order to him and picked it up. The wrap was delicious but more than that, I was touched and appreciative of the young man's compassion! Underwhelming, I had a good time, but only because of the company I was with. The inside is warm and welcoming. The pretzel was nice and warm, but there was no salt on it and it was quite small. I got the sweet potato fries (up-charge) with a fish sandwich. There were only 8 fries on my large tray with the small sandwich. The few fries were delicious, but the portions were disappointing. The fish was fried nicely but they didn't put any tomato on my sandwich, there was no sauce, and the lettuce was slimy. The waitress never refilled my drink or brought the ketchup I asked for. ***3.5 stars*** Popular after-work bar and grill for people who work at the U of R and the hospital. Lots of overhanging TVs, plenty of draft beers and a huge list of food items makes for a good time. They offer a lot of happy hour deals, including $6 dollar appetizers and drink specials. The ambiance is cozy without being stuff. There's a lot of wood and it feels cabin-y. There's also a covered outdoor patio that's good for those warm days in Rochester. Overall a decent bar, serving decent food and drink. While I don't think i've ever gotten anything bad from The Distillery, I also don't think i've ever had anything noteworthy. We used to come to this place 17 years ago and we were regulars. After moving away, we don't get to come back often so this was one of the very few times. The atmosphere is sports bar with many tvs and decent beers. The wings are the highlight and the reason we love it. We get extra crispy hot wings and they do not go to waste! Very mediocre food for too high prices. I understand that there are food shortages and inflation but just 10 wings cost a little over $17. I was told they were pretty good so I still got them. They were fine, nothing special. I also ordered a side of tater tots for $4 and they came out lukewarm. They tasted exactly like the frozen ones from Wegmans. I also got the $10 poutine as an appetizer to share and it again was just ok but a decent sized portion. I should reserve my poutine eating for Canada and Le Petit Poutine which was way better for a very similar price. As for drinks, one of my friends got an "adult milkshake" called The Mudslide and really enjoyed it. It felt a lot like an Applebee's indoors with lots of TVs playing sports and a bar. At least there was a free parking lot right next to the restaurant. Payment was quite confusing as their receipts had a QR code that lead to the Toast payment site. There was an 18% tip already added that you could see on the physical receipt and it was factored in on the Toast site in a way that I couldn't edit it. Toast also had another tip option at the top of the screen that was automatically activated that was in addition to the 18% tip listed on the screen. I asked our server about it and they said that they do get the 18% tip so I went and made a custom tip for $0. I think this may have been because we were a group of 9 so I don't know if it happens to smaller parties. You could pay with a physical card or cash instead of online if you wanted to. read more

This is my go to place for a fancy but affordable place for food and dinner dates! Service is always great. Food is amazing. Went to dinner on 12/28; seated promptly. My husband had a free entree for his birthday. We had burgers. I had the Guinness burger with rings. My husband had bacon cheeseburger with fries. His medium rare was hammered. Mine was to be medium well ; every ounce of moisture was sucked out of it. The onion rings were very close to being burned. Fries were not seasoned. We had a lovely (and quick!) post-hospital dinner with a party of 6 plus a high chair! This location is prime for UofR and hospital students/staff, and super accommodating for a wide demographic. They do a great special on certain apps ($5 at certain times) and rock a wonderful beer list. Their menu is standard pub faire with some odd deviations, like pizza and pasta. The best part of this experience for me was the cadence of the meal. It was like our server (and somehow the kitchen?) knew we had a small tired child and needed to do a little dine and pay and dash quickly action. Dinner came out crazy fast and our server was attentive but not obtrusive throughout. I ordered the burrito bowl (another odd deviation) and it was actually quite good. I would ask for sour cream on the side in the future since there was just the most hilariously massive GOB on my plate. This might be because I asked for no guac...but still. I also enjoyed a lovely cab sauv. Overall, I would say come and indulge the fried apps on a late night or while drinking with friends - that is my fave way to spend time at the Winton location. The kids burger is absolutely massive and not really meant for a kid. We went on a Tuesday evening at peak time and had no trouble getting a table. I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews of this place.  I had been here before, but it was like a year ago.  I recently found out they had deviled eggs on the menu, and they were part of their happy hour specials, so we went to check them out. Contrary to several reviews on here, I didn't notice any strange smell in here.  I'm also very sensitive to smell, so I would be one to notice, and immediately turn around and leave if that was the case, lol. Their parking lot isn't the greatest, but it was like 4:30, so there was plenty of parking.  I asked about drink specials, and they had 2 for 1 margaritas, so I got that.  My first one was frozen, which I didn't love.  The next one I got on the rocks, and I liked that much better.  Not the best drink I ever had in my life or anything, but good enough for me. I ordered the deviled eggs, and they come with sriracha.  My husband warned me it would be too hot for me, so we ordered it on the side.  When the eggs came, it wasn't on the side.  I was going to eat them anyway, but it was REALLY hot (I don't like hot stuff).  My husband told the bartender, and she offered to remake them without any issue at all.  I had new deviled eggs in minutes, and was able to enjoy them without hot sauce burning my mouth.  They were pretty good.  My husband liked them better than some others we've had.  I'd have liked the filling to be a little thicker, but they were good, and we ate all 6 of them happily.  I really like deviled eggs, and making them is a pain with peeling the shells off, so if a restaurant has them, I usually order them.  I'm kind of a deviled egg connoisseur, if you will. :) I didn't ask how much the margaritas were (which was my fault), but they were $7.50, which was kinda high for happy hour.  They did my 2 for 1 with a double shot, which was fine, but I wouldn't have known it was a double shot from drinking them.  I'd have probably only gotten one if I knew the price.  But, the deviled eggs were half price, so they were only $3.50, so they were pretty cheap. All in all, it was a good visit, and I'd go back without hesitation. Edited to add: We went here for dinner last week. They now have an Impossible burger, and the 2 for 1 margaritas are all day everyday. Even my husband tried the Impossible burger, and he's not vegetarian. He liked it! And of course we go the deviled eggs again. There were actually several things on the menu that I was able and wanting to eat. It was good food, good service, and good drinks. Came here for happy hour before a Red Wings game. Wide variety of $4 drinks, I went with a tall bud light... nothing fancy but hey it was ice cold! We started of at the bar since it wasn't to busy yet, we had lot's of space and our drinks were made super fast. Once our entire party arrived we moved to a large table. We got a few appetizers to hold us over till the game to share. Mozzarella sticks were average, Truffle fries were interesting but the table loved them. The bavarian pretzels sticks were good. (I would order them again) But it was the Buffalo chicken deviled eggs that were the biggest hit... I was unsure of this one... but surprisingly very tasty! The deviled eggs are topped with chunks of hand-breaded chicken tenders, buffalo sauce, crumbled bleu cheese and served with celery. I was happy with the service, price of drinks and appetizers. Went in on a Friday night and they sat the two of us in a U-shaped booth at the back in front of a big pillar. Really? We asked to move and they gave us a booth near the entrance, still not that great, oh well. The place seems like an odd shape. They had seating upstairs that seemed to be better but apparently they weren't seating anyone there as a party was going on. Not impressed. Our waitress was friendly and told us about the Friday fish fry and Fish Sandwich, both made with Haddock. We ordered those dishes. Our entrees came up within 20 minutes but the fish in the fish sandwich was paper thin. The waitress told us she would tell the manager. Couldn't she handle this simple issue? The manager came and asked if I wanted a replacement, I said sure. He then took my plate and I had to wait another 20 minutes for a new sandwich, and cold fries. The new sandwich had a bigger piece of fish but lots of breading. And I will add the breading on this fish is really really dry, and tasteless. This is probably favorite bar in the Rochester area. A good selection of beers, and drinks in general. Nice vibe. I like their outdoor seating on the patio. They have a very good food menu. It took the bartender about 15 mins to come over and ask me what I wanted to drink because she was too busy talking to her co workers at the other end of the bar. I ordered a whiskey ginger short and I'm pretty sure she put a splash of whiskey and the rest ginger ale. I ordered the chicken street tacos which come with black beans over white rice. The chicken street tacos came with Pico de Gallo, cabbage, spicy aioli, cheese, cilantro, and lime on a choice of flour or corn tortillas. The tacos were good. I asked for a side of salsa and she bring me more Pico de Gallo... that's not what I asked for but I let it go since she was moving very slow . Btw... my second drink took forever to get and the water I asked for with my first drink.. I never got and had to ask the new bartender for water. The black beans and white rice was not good. Ok burgers and sandwiches. Nothing extraordinary, but quality is there. Prices were a bit high for some items in relation to the portions - I felt the burgers and sandwiches were kind of small. My youngest got shrimp scampi and the serving was weak for almost $20, and he actually got up from the table and said "I'm going to flavor my noodles", followed by the explanation that it was fairly flavorless overall. I liked the house made chips that came with the sandwiches. Spinach and artichoke dip was ok.
