The truffle fries were really good though and were paired nicely with the garlic aioli. The cocktails were good but a little pricy for Sioux City. Uber'd here from our hotel after the hotel bartender said they made the best drinks in town. They definitely didn't disappoint. Bartender was personable, in fact all the staff were very polite despite us being there during a blizzard and them trying to close early. Food was delicious, don't get hung up on something you want ahead of time after seeing photos of the menu though as they change dishes often however I'm confident you'll find something you enjoy! Our Uber back to the hotel wasn't filling so the owner offered to drive us on his way home but thankfully we managed to eventually get a taxi. Great place, worth a visit for sure. read more

Not great. The menu we loved is gone. Not a lot of selection. No wings, everything deep fat fried. The burger was bland. No catsup, mustard, one pickle slice. Truffle fries had no truffle. This place is super cute! Staff is so kind and friendly and though they take reservations they do an excellent job making sure every guest gets a table and great service. We just stopped in for a quick bite to eat before jumping back on the road. We ordered the Brussels, margarita flat bread, garden salad with chicken and the quinoa bowl (that is not pictured). The food over all was decent. Nice and light. There are other varieties and option on the menu though. This is absolutely one of my favorite restaurants in Sioux City. Behind the bar and they are making the best cocktails in all of the region and offer a great assortment of craft beer. However, if you are looking for a bush light or something like that, you may be disappointed. However, the staff can make sure to give you good recommendations. The food is equally delicious. What I appreciate most about it is that the menu isn't extensive because everything they do is done well and they are intentional with the ingredients. Some absolute favorites of mine would be the brussels sprouts and the truffle fries. The steamed buns are to die for. Their Smashburger is messy, but worth it. Finally, don't sleep on their salads. They are tasty as well, and if you add a steak to it, you are getting a great meal for a good price. oh and how can I forget the desserts. They are great, but I rarely have room for them. Their staff is very knowledgeable about the great cocktails and are happy to help if you have questions. The atmosphere overall is inviting. I would say it's a nicer place, but it's not pretentious. Maybe a little rustic, but not country. Probably the best description for it would be comfortable and casual. Check it out! Cheers. - you might need assistance getting through the double doors, but there is plenty of space in the restaurant to roll around. I was having an amazing day. I just got my nipples pierced. They had Mickey Mouse buttons. So my friends brought me to the diving elk for a nice celebration. Sadly to my surprise I didn't know that I was going to be verbally abused. Metaphorically physically assaulted. And fat shamed. All over a plate of macaroni. I loved their macaroni, it was heavenly. I felt my toes curl as I took a bite of the succulent nectar covered noodles. I slurped the spoons that glided into my mouth with such vigor. I loved it. But then when I wanted to order more the waiter had the balls to say, "another one". She ridiculed me in front of my friends. In any other situation I would have loved it. But NOTHING and NO ONE was gonna stand between me and my meaty chicken and wet noodles draped in cheesy goodness. All around a 2/800. Would eat again. read more

In town looking for a decent and reasonably priced meal with a good beer. I heard good things about this place and decided to give it a try. I sat at the bar but they had good seating for various sized groups. The bartender (John?) was very helpful and attentive all night long. I went with a unfiltered wheat to drink and it was good, very sweet to start but smoothed out. For dinner I got Elk Sausage with Brussel sprouts as a side. The Sausage came on a pretzel bun and was very good. I had feared the bun was going to be too much bread but it was perfect. The Brussel sprouts were freaking awesome ! If you like them you have to get these. I had planned on a beer and dinner but stayed longer as the staff and customers were chatty and we were having a great time. First off the drink menu is insane. There are so many wonderful things to choose from including their own signature drinks. The recommendations that I have are, you must try the truffle fries and you must try the brussels sprouts they are fantastic! I ended up eating the pig and fig flatbread, which was so delicious. The blue cheese mixed in with the fig and pork was just so amazing. Between the other person with me, we could not finish our appetizer plates. There was so much food. And so reasonably priced as well! Our weight staff was friendly and welcoming. The bartender was fantastic and I loved the entire atmosphere. It has this eclectic historic look to it. Went here for dinner with a group of 9, and the service was good considering the number of people at our table to cater to. It wasn't packed at the dinner hour, which was great considering some of the other places we tried had a long wait. We got some appetizers for the table and devoured them, definitely get the goat cheese fondue. We didn't think we'd like it as much as we did and were pleasantly surprised. If you're looking for cheap, fast grub, this would probably isn't the place for you. If you're looking for a laidback dining and drinks experience with folks who actually know a few things about food and beer, then you'll love it here! Something that is hard to find in smaller towns and cities is an establishment that offers more than just your run of the mill IPA, lager, or cider. This place had a decent offering of beers, from sours to porters. Even more impressive, they had three sours to choose from! I also appreciate how willing the staff and kitchen were to change up a couple of things for the dishes we ordered. First modification: Add rosemary to the truffle fries. Sadly, they ran out of rosemary; however, I can say with confidence that this is one of the few places you can go and get truffle fries without rosemary and actually enjoy it! The garlic aioli was also a great complement to the fries. Second modification: While my name might be Spicy Kaixi, alas, I can no longer eat spicy food. Luckily, the folks at Diving Elk were quite understanding and let me switch out the jalapeño cheddar brat in the mac and cheese for pulled pork instead, and boyyyy, it did not disappoint! The cheese sauce was done just right and I didn't feel like I was about to drown in a lake of melted gouda! The breadcrumbs added the perfect amount of texture to the entree. We also enjoyed the environment, which was laidback but still welcoming enough for a social outing! And now that I think of it, I think I might just go and get a beer from there tonight. read more

We've been coming here since they opened. Their menu is seasonal and changes a couple times per year. My favorites are the steak and fish chips. They do flights, but they have some great cocktails they're known for. The bartender is a professional mixologist who makes some of the best drinks in town. The atmosphere is chill..kinda dark. I can honestly say it's my favorite restaurant in Sioux City. If we're having friends or family from out of town, this is where we like to take them. My son and I came here from the Twin Cities. I had been researching the menu online before our trip. We were told a 20 minute wait but luckily some people finished eating so we were in right away. I ordered the Brussel sprouts appetizer which are fried Brussel sprouts with Sriracha, honey and lime. Super yummy. I saved the sauce for my brocollini and asparagus. I ordered Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich. The chicken wasn't hot at all and tasted greasy. I removed the Texas toast and wrapped it in the leaf lettuce to eat. My son had New York Strip steak dinner. Water was served in a glass milk bottle decanter left on our table. The Diving Elk pays homage to actual Elk that dived off a platform in the river back in 1920 or so. Today PETA would have this banned. I'd definitely return and order something else. The menu was small and not overwhelming. The Brussels were great. read more

Every time I visit Sioux City, a visit to the Diving Elk is a must! They are always rotating their taps and typically have a great selection. It's not easy to find a bar with tasty sour beers on tap in Sioux City! The food menu is constantly changing as well. The Diving Elk is definitely serving up some of the best poutine I've ever had! They use a unique horseradish creme sauce on the poutine and it's a game changer. The truffle fries are a perfect snack, along with the shishito peppers. I haven't tried any of the entrees yet, but I'll keep you posted when that day comes. read more
