There was a recent HUGE listeria outbreak from grocery store donuts. Many don't realize but chain grocery stores buy donuts mass produced (who knows from what country these donuts are produced), and then makes them pretty to sell in their stores. Several corp stores were forced to pull their donuts. The good thing about buying donuts from this establishment is they make their donuts fresh daily. Sure you pay a little more, but why save .50 to eat a donut imported from China as example? I am sick of corporate bakeries where their donuts come from who knows where (what country), mass produced then the store unfreezes them to decorate. I've met plenty of donuts in my life and enjoyed a spectrum of donut-types. There's almost always a trade-off, where yummier equals less healthy and more guilt because of excess sugar or oil. The two donuts I enjoyed at the Donut Tree this week required no trade-offs: they were fluffy and yummy and soul-warming with just the exact right amount of chocolate and maple frosting. They immediately knocked my previously favorite donuts off of the pedestal. The trouble is that this place is 542 miles from where I live. Save yourself the trouble and just go and get some doughnuts at Albertsons. My regional manager brought a dozen in first thing in the morning and the doughnuts just tasted like soggy bread and grease, no true flavor to them. I'm glad I didn't spend my money on it! read more

I am all for #localshopsupport and that is why I have been wanting to try The Donut Tree and Bakery. I'm not a big fan of cake donuts; therefore, it was okay. Unfortunately, other than grocery store this is one of the only options in Mountain Home for donuts (smart thinking). I would have liked to see an original glazed donut or something less sugary. Note: we did go in around 9-10 so there may be more options in the early AM. Actually, I can guarantee there are more options in the AM like any do it shop. The owner was super nice and took her time to explain all of the options. The shop was cute with ample amount of seating for anyone who wants to eat donuts, sip on hot cocoa/coffee, or just hangout inside the store. Also, parking isn't bad because there's a large parking lot right across the street. If you want a donut in mountain home or love cake donuts grab one at the bakery and then take a stroll down the community canvas alleyways. read more

For a small town donut shop, this is the place to be! With friendly folks, cute decor, a good selection of donuts, and a place to sit, you'll enjoy your time at the Donut Tree! While I haven't spent much time seated, every time I have gone in to pick up a dozen or even just a few donuts, I've been greeted warmly with a cordial welcome and a smile. And with my chocolate cravings on high, the donuts here satisfy those cravings quickly and are so very delicious! This is a great little donut shop. Stopped in with my family for a quick treat and the owner was EXTREMELY friendly...even with my 3y/o climbing everywhere. Nice atmosphere and the donuts were delicious. My apple fritter was monstrous (and crispy)! My only strike against this place is it may have a limited selection depending on when you arrive. But seriously, it's a small shop in a small town and there is no reason to have to throw out half your profit at days end. We are staying in Mountain Home for a couple of months while in the middle of relocating to Nampa. My husband found this shop and suprised me with a donut one morning. It was delicious as was his. The owner is very friendly and said she makes soup in a bread bowl on Thursdays..... He went back on Thurs and got lunch for us.... Homemade Broccoli/Cheddar soup in bread bowls.... DELICIOUS! perfect for a rainy/cold day! Much care is taken with everything she does. Hmmmmm I do believe it is chicken/noodle this week. I better send him for donuts this morning! Good thing he did not read the previous reviews because this is an awesome addition to this town and these people should give it another chance. read more

Fresh Donuts are always amazing. Anything new in this town is a blessing. It's fairly new so give them time to work out the kinks. Delicious! You won't be disappointed. I think they are trying to be something big they just aren't yet. I wouldn't do delivery. Call in orders are good but you should have enough to cover walk ins. As far as the donuts, some were stale which made me wonder if they were from the day before. We also found a hair on one of them. Cute little donut shop. The donuts are decorated well and it looks like they're made with a lot of care and consideration to their appearance. They also taste delicious. The only thing that bothered me was that there was a bee/wasp in the glass cases where the donuts are held.
