Time for an updated review because credit is definitely due. For nearly the past year, The Door has been in our family's Friday night dinner rotation. Every Friday, my four of us pick a different takeout spot, and without fail, someone always says, "Can we just get The Door?" We've had the curry goat, Rasta pasta, jerk chicken, fried chicken, oxtail, Esco chicken, soups, and the chicken patttttttties... mi God. Mi never taste a food wicked suh yet! Everything is consistently flavorful, fresh, and cooked with love. It's honestly become one of our go to spots because we know exactly what we're getting every single time. In my previous review, I mentioned a less than stellar experience. Looking back, maybe they were just having an off day or maybe I got the pot bottom. Whatever the reason, they've been nothing short of amazing ever since. Whether they changed chefs or tightened things up, whatever you're doing... DON'T CHANGE NADA! And I have to give an honorary shout out to Desrene, one of the wonderful team members who takes the takeout orders. She is ALWAYS pleasant, professional, and genuinely kind. It honestly brightens my day whenever I hear her voice on the other end of the phone. A Reliable Haven Near JFK (Especially for Late Arrivals!) I had been on a work assignment in the area for a while and have visited The Door several times. Each experience has been even better than the last, and it has quickly become a reliable local go-to. My most recent visit really saved the day. I had family fly into JFK, and by the time they got through the airport, it was after 8:00 PM. They were starving, and The Door was one of the few quality places nearby where we could actually sit down for a proper meal at that hour. As usual, it did not disappoint: The Food: Even late in the evening, the food was excellent and--most importantly--fresh. The Service: The staff was friendly and incredibly fast, which my hungry family definitely appreciated. The Vibe: There were some gentlemen at the bar having a very good time (read: they were a bit noisy!), but it didn't take away from the meal. The overall experience was still top-notch. Saturday Brunch with the W.I.V.E.S Group. Upon arrival I was greeted well by the hostess and seated with my group. I love Caribbean cuisine and this Jamaican restaurant did not disappoint. I had the Jamaican National dish which is Ackee combined with saltfish accompanied by boiled provisions as they call it which was plantain, dumplings and yams. They have fresh juices so I ordered the Lemon Ginger Juice. I also had the bread fruit which was delicious. All of the ladies enjoyed their meals as well. Nothing was left on our plates lol. I am writing to express my disappointment with a takeout order I purchased from your restaurant today. I ordered the ackee and saltfish for pickup, but by the time I arrived home, oil had spilled all over the bag. The dish itself contained an excessive amount of oil, and the packaging was not sufficient for a takeout order of this nature. I highly recommend utilizing better, leak-proof packaging for these specific types of dishes in the future to prevent this from happening to other customers. I was quite disappointed, which is unusual because I have never had a bad dine-in experience during my previous visits. The food here is amazing! Our service was very good as well! I've heard of this restaurant for quite some years and finally happy I got to experience it. All the flavors were there in everything I ate. I ordered a large bowl of mannish water soup and it was so delicious! I only wished I got more spinners less yam but I'll be sure to let them know next time! The oxtail and the fish were so tasty as well. My friends and I enjoyed our meals. The rum punch is not for the weak... lots of rum! Be prepared lol! The restaurant itself needs a fresh coat of white paint to update and revitalize the interior of the restaurant. It's a bit outdated in its look and so just doing the white paint in the sit down part of the restaurant would brighten up the restaurant. I did takeout here in the early afternoon of Sunday, 11/9/25. I ordered the Roasted Beef (Sunday special) with rice and peas, cabbage and plantains; a chicken patty, and a slice of black cake with icing. The roast beef was tender, but it was a tad too salty. The cabbage had green peas mixed in, which enhanced its flavor. The rice and peas and plantains were okay. The curry chicken patty was perfectly seasoned with a velvety filling, and the crust was soft, buttery and flaky. I will be back one day soon to get more chicken patties to bring to work for lunch. The black cake was rich, dense, moist--with intense rum flavor. It reminded me of the ones served at weddings and Christmas when I was growing up in a West Indian household. My order was ready in about 18 minutes despite three people ahead of me, waiting for theirs. Nicashay was the cashier, and she did a good job handling multiple orders for the Sunday dinner crowd. Ordered lunch from here recently and decided to try the curry chicken dish since I've never had it from here. It was actually quite good, but my only issue was that they don't include curry potatoes with their curry chicken dishes. I've noticed that most Jamaican restaurants do NOT add potatoes to their curry entrees. So if you're like me and you like potatoes included in your curry meals, then stick with Trini and Guyanese restaurants if you're in a curry mood..!! I do LOVE that they have plain brown rice & brown rice with peas as an option! (At an additional fee, of course.) So if you're watching your diet like I am, you don't have to dread ordering white rice with your meal! I wish more restaurants would start adding brown rice to their menu!! read more

I been coming to The Door for years. Delicious well season Jamaican dishes and drinks. I use to come faithfully on Sunday for their brunch. I fell in love with their pineapple Ginger juice. I enjoy their salmon and oxtail and rice and peas. Service is excellent dining in and whenever your placing an order over the phone. Very professional. Really good Jamaican Food! I ordered Uber eats and was not disappointed. My salt fish with rice was on point. I ate it all up. The strawberry cheesecake my daughter loved it! Mac and cheese was delicious as well. The chicken soup was good and is on the spicy side. OMG the Rum cake is like sex in your mouth! I am telling you it was soaked in rum and tasted so delicious. Feels like you seriously took a shot of rum - my tongue burned a bit. Please get the Rum Cake!!!!! This Jamaican food man oh man. Went to celebrate some friends/colleagues that retired. It was lovely to have a reunion with good people and good vibes. They choose the all you can eat Sunday brunch. I didn't have much option as a non meat eater. The fish was too hard for me to chew and no other seafood or non meat option. I plan to return and order from the regular menu. The door has been on my list of restaurants and I finally went and I will say it was definitely worth the wait. The customer service was definitely on point. From the entrance to the entire time dining. The food was fresh and everything taste amazing. I even placed a to go order for my husband and son and they said that this was the best Rasta pasta and salmon that they have ever had. This place is getting worse went you put in an order via telephone. I called 45 minutes ahead for red snapper and I arrived there it still was not ready. The Door unfortunately has changed for the absolute worse. We called and placed an order 21 minutes before we arrived. Got there and still ended up waiting just under an HOUR. When the food came it definitely wasn't worth the wait. We spent $77 plus for a large curry goat-tasted good but had very little meat in it; large fried chicken/decent; small chicken meal - decent; the large brown stewed chicken had 4 of those small drummet pieces that are usually attached to the the wing and a tiny piece of a back...that's it. The pepper shrimp were rubbery and extremely salty. They only gave me 6 shrimp when they normally give me 9. I'm done with them. Almost an hour and 20 mins for sub-par food. If I didn't live so far away I would have brought it all back for a refund. Instead, I will just have to take my business elsewhere. read more

Waiting to catch a plane out of Kennedy, so we stopped by the Door for brunch on a Sunday afternoon. Only seats available were at the bar. The bartender was very friendly and accommodating. The jerk wings were excellent, very spicy and meaty, unlike any wings I have had in the world. Next trip to New York, the Door is on the schedule to try the comply buffet!. Great place! read more

I'm disappointed to even have to write this after over twenty years of being a customer. Tonight I ordered a large curry goat. I should have also included a picture of the bones from the barely meat that was on them. It was a disgrace that most of the watery stew was undissolved ginger and fat; most of the plate was filled with stale white rice, I bet the meat was stale also, just based on its texture and flavor. Either that or whomever cooked it is new to cooking for a commercial kitchen. The flavor of the curry was lacking, the oil in the stew was rank, the plantain was basically mush and the cabbage tasted old as well. There have been times I wasn't happy with the food but as a loyal customer I always gave them another shot to make it right. I think this time did it though, it's over for The Door and I. read more

While the food is exceptional their service is atrocious to say the least. My organization catered from this place twice and both times they were hours late in delivering the food. When you call they place you on hold for over an hour and keep switching you to different people. If you continue to wait they hang up the phone on you. I want to support a black business like mines but their continued horrible service and lack of accountability has turn me and any other partners from using this organization further. The Door has been one of the best Jamaican restaurants in Queens for decades. I haven't been here in years since I rarely come to this side anymore. I was in the area so I grabbed the chance. Curry goat is one of my fave foods and the Door's is on point. The food quality is still A1 unlike many Caribbean restaurants post pandemic. They use a good cut of goat so you don't have to pick through shards of bone or fat. They also use a nice grain of rice. A small was $16. I was so disappointed that carrot cake was not good. It was so dry and not sweet. Back in the day the cake was so moist it would almost fall apart and it had plenty of raisins and shredded carrot throughout. This cake was not that. I don't know if they have a new baker or what but they are not it. Prices are high. A gallon of sorrell is $60. But the food is really good so I will continue to patronize them read more

We waited so long just to get napkins and when my niece saw napkins m, she got them for us and was chastised by the waitress for taking them. The first time (May 7, 2025) it was delicious, I ordered through uber. The second time myself and my friends ate at the restaurant it was delicious at that time, so I came back again to the restaurant with friends The third time I ate at the restaurant the Rasta Pasta was TERRIBLE, I had to send it back (sauce was red and dry), the pasta was over cooked sticking together. The fourth time was June 10, 2025, I ordered through Uber, once again, pasta was over cooked, sauce was red not creamy, looked and tasted like spaghetti sauce, and was dry. Needed catering on a tight timeline, and they were able to come through. It would have been nice if the online catering menu had photos, especially if you're not already familiar with their food. But, while ordering on the phone, the staff helped us to settle on a few of the venue's highlights. The Mac N' Cheese was a major hit among guests and the Jerk Chicken was all around just right in flavor, spiciness, and moisture. It was exactly what we needed to bring the comforts of soul food to the event.
