Turkey Wings w/ Collard Greens & Yams

Mixed feelings... what i had was too good to not return but whether or not i eat there again will be determined on the availability of a menu. Went in and asked for a menu. They had no menus. There wasn't even one posted on the wall or window for me to look at. So I asked for my go to Southern/Soul food item chopped bbq. They don't sell that there, and by the look on her face, I'm not sure if the woman knew what that was. I was gonna leave, but after more than a few awkward seconds I asked "well what do you sell?" The woman verbally recited the entire menu... I'm like WOW impressive, but overwhelming. Then she also told me what they were out of at the time. I went for the turkey wings. It was the only item that stood out, and I couldn't remember what else she said they had. For sides I had yams, collards, and mac & Cheese. I'm guessing a dinner is entree and 2 sides, according to the container size And I didn't know prices since again there were No menus. Back to food... I didn't enjoy the Mac & Cheese. I couldn't pinpoint exactly what I didn't like but I wouldn't get it again. I wanna say it wasn't cheesy enough but there was clearly Cheese there so Maybe it was just bland or maybe the type of cheeses used just weren't bold enough for my liking. Now everything else was amazing!!! The turkey wings were juicy and slide off the bone tender! That gravy was lick your fingers delicious. I loved the yams and the collards. The portions size was enough but I still wish I had more. There looked like some strawberry crunch cake on the side of the counter, which I kinda wanted to get but didn't know if it was for sale or reserved for other ppl. Plus I didn't know The price (I paid $23 for my entree & 3 sides) Again, no menu to tell me if they offer desserts. The Place is small. Take-out only. There is 1 little table and some chairs to wait outside. I wasn't sure whether to go inside, or use what looks like a Take-out window on the outside, but when I didn't see a menu, I had to go in.... The customer service was good. I just really wish they had a menu for me too look at. Or even a white or chalk board with the written menu, so they can cross off or check what they run out of. Before going, I was previously told that the food was good but they often run out of various items. I understand when making fresh food you are going to run out, that's not a problem but I need to see what you offer. I don't care if it us handwritten on poster board from the dollar store, People want to know what you have and how much it is!!! Went back... and they had a menu but they were out of what I wanted so I got nothing. Is it worth the chance? Yes, because if you can get what u want it's probably gonna be good

Good things happen to those who wait but that's not the case when ordering at soul city . The wait was horrendous and was still missing part of my meal . Service is all over the place there is no order in the restaurant when placing one .Food is overpriced and undercooked. Just deep fried in god knows what type of oil they tryna kill somebody don't eat here !

My favorite soul food spot from the moment i was told about this place and tried it. The service is amazing every time i call to place my order and it is ready by the time i get there . I hope the open more locations cause no soul spots are coming close to the flavor and taste in their food. Catfish and turkey wings are my favorite sometimes i get both cause it hard to pick just one and the candied yams are a must literally!! The Mac and cheese so cheesy and perfectly seasoned. Try to order early if you can because their food sells out quick that's how good it is. And the macaroni salad as well omg to die for .its a small location so it not like a restaurant but they make up for that in the food it's self the perfect take out spot in queens .I love it here Kept it up cause you guys are doing great see you tomorrow lol

    Catfish and mac and cheese

Extremely disappointed. I was craving catfish and decided to give soul city a try. Safe to say I wont be back. The catfish was very fresh and fried perfectly! A bit salty for my liking, but it was good. The Mac and cheese was extremely over cooked and wet. The noodles were so soggy, I threw it away.

Turkey Wings, Mac & Chz, mac salad, yams, greens, cabbage, and rice. Pic did food no justice!

So good...GO THERE! After leaving rehearsal at my church nearby , I suddenly had a craving for soul food. There was a repass in the church hall and I got a whiff of the food. So what do you think I did? Yup...came straight to YELP. Soul City was the 1st restaurant in the listing and it was a few blocks away. When I pulled up in front, this older black lady with nice FULL hips walked in there...I was like "yep, the food is gonna be good" As soon as I walked in a smelled SEASONING! Lol I was hype. I got to ordering. I ordered : Turkey Wings- Insanely tender and the smothered gravy was seasoned perfectly. Fried Whiting- My daugher said it was well seasoned and crispy Fried Shrimp- Same thing as the whiting...perfect Baked Chicken- the person I bought this for said it was "so good" (they grew up on great southern food) Sides: Mac- seasoned & cheesy! Greens- omg, I wanted to slap somebody, yum! Yams- sweet, cinnamony goodness Seasoned Rice- went well with the smothered turkey wings Macaroni Salad - it was good, a little liquidy tho. Cabbage- Good Dessert Pineapple Coconut cake- delicious, pineapples tasted fresh. Strawberry Crunch cake - didn't taste it yet but im sure its just as good as everything else. Customer service was A1! The guy behind the counter who took care of my order, gave me a few samples on forks mac, yams, & collards...everything was scrumptious but babyyyy when those greens went in my mouth, I almost ran out the restaurant (it was sooooooo good)...in fact, that's what caused me to order a second dinner for myself(the shrimp dinner) for tomorrow. I was born and raised in a neighborhood close to Soul City, but I've lived in the BX for 20 years. I get my soul food from Harlem. But this Queens spot was like getting a plate from your southern granny's kitchen...deep in Georgia or Alabama somewhere. They said they're going to start breakfast on Sat & Sun so keep an eye out for that. Ok I'll stop now lol. I will definitely be back!

We were visiting family and we ended up finding this place. Don't let the exterior fool you. The food was fenomenal. So good, there was no time for pictures. Mac and cheese was our favorite. Yams were so delicious and sweet, I'm craving as I'm writing. Fish and chicken flavor were also great. I read some reviews about their service and I have to completely disagree. They were super friendly and helpful. They let us try samples of the food and super welcoming. Also, easy to find parking! I highly recommend.

I enjoy my food when I actually taste the food and not the salt so I loved it. Others complained not salty/seasoned enough but it was perfect to me. Chicken had the right amount of crunch and tenderness. The salmon was meaty (not fatty) and seasoned just right. I had the bbq salmon and it was delicioso! The Mac n cheese was a good blend of cheeses and 'cheesy' pull was excellent. Potato salad just right. The service was top notch despite the place being sold out and very busy!! The food was flavorful and well-prepared, although some dishes leaned a bit salty for my taste. I ordered the sautéed shrimp and grits. The shrimp were delicious, but I wish the dish came with a larger portion of grits. The gravy was very generous and ended up making the dish a bit soupy, so a little more grits would have helped balance the dish. Other highlights from our table included the fried shrimp and waffles, yams, and mac and cheese, all of which were excellent. Another guest in my party ordered the BBQ salmon and thoroughly enjoyed it as well. The ambiance is casual, comfortable, and inviting, making it a great spot for either a local brunch or a relaxed dinner. The service was attentive and pleasant throughout our visit. We were even greeted by the owner upon arrival, and his friendliness and hospitality immediately made us feel welcome and set a positive tone for the entire experience. Overall, this is a solid neighborhood restaurant with good food, a welcoming atmosphere, and excellent customer service. I'd definitely return to try more items from the menu.

This is a buffet style set up and there is limited high top seating for dine-in. There are concerns about open buffet settings but one issue that this restaurant defeated would be cross contamination. I give ovation when I see the hand sanitizers that are set out for use before dipping from the buffet and you must use plastic gloves that are set out for use when touching utensils. Staff monitoring is another issue that I observed them performing every time that I entered. Temperature control can be questioned if you are dining in. Food safety is another to be observed. The buffet offers so many delicious dishes and a huge salad bar. They do serve breakfast items such as dumplings boiled or fried, green banana, yams, and salt fish just to name a few. They have salmon, Quiona, Chicken, oxtails, fritters, delicious vegetable dishes. I even saw curried chicken feet. Not that I would be eating them because mom and dad never served us this dish growing up and I am not about to add this dish to my palate at my age. I am not knocking it but whatever floats your boat. I am pretty sure you may find something you like and they make smoothies. I have tried the salmon on two occasions, and I question the food safety on this dish. I find that the salmon was not to my liking as it may have not been fresh on occasion and or it taste overcooked it was hard to cut let alone chew. The vegetables taste great. I would like to have Quiona, but chef community seem to think that everyone appreciates corn in their food. I will go back to try something other than breakfast or salmon. So happy eating and ....
