The food was ridiculously delicious, especially the mac and cheese and yams. The catfish was good but i took too long to eat it so it cooled down but i bet fresh, it would be amazing. The store seems like a mom and pop restaurant so the service was very personable. The ambience isn't the best it is not a sit in establishment and very small and cramped but they have an A from the food inspector, so it's definitely clean and up to code. The sides were so small that my toddler would need two plates. On top of that there was not enough food for leftovers. Literally you can inhale it with one bite and the taste was missing. I don't know what happened. It was overly season and the pieces that they gave us for the fish were laughable. Two measly pieces of whiting that could fit in the palm of my toddler's hand. The customer service was good. I just really wish they had a menu for me too look at. Or even a white or chalk board with the written menu, so they can cross off or check what they run out of. Before going, I was previously told that the food was good but they often run out of various items. I understand when making fresh food you are going to run out, that's not a problem but I need to see what you offer. Food is really good but sides are so small I needed two plates. I was craving soul food so I called about 20 minutes before picking up my food. They said it will be ready in 10 mins so I called my Uber and headed over there. When I arrived They tell me that they didn't get my order so they made me wait a whole 40 minutes. My round trip Uber canceled on me so I had to call and wait for another Uber and 40 minutes later I received my food with no apology or anything. I've been on a no carb diet and i was craving soul food. I hopped on yelp and found this hole in the wall. Let me tell you, this food is worth every penny! It so good, i drove in the snow to come and get this food after reading the reviews. I think the reviews made my cravings worse Im going to assume that this is a family business. I walked in on a snowy Saturday night. A friendly gentleman greeted me and asked me what I'd like to eat. I was craving fried chicken. He told me they were out and he'd make me some chicken wings if i could wait 10 mins. I was a lil sad about not getting fried chicken but wings would suffice. While i waited, they gave my husband and i teasers of the mac and cheese and also the candied yams. I was sold on both sides that when my wings were ready, i opted for both the mac & cheese and the yams. This couple put their soul in to this meal. It was sooo yummy that i can't even begin to imagine what the fried chicken tastes like. I can't wait to go back and try their other items on the menu. I will say that the place isnt on merrick blvd, its just off of merrick. It's literally a hole in the wall. Aesthetically its not amazing but i was put to ease when i saw the A grade in the window.
