There's lakes all over, golf, fishing, actives at the clubhouse and more. We hung out in the pools most of the day until the golf cart parade, which was awesome. In the evening there was line dancing lessons and a laser light show that went on even after I went to bed. Saturday afternoon was a chili cook off which was SO MUCH FUN. Not only was there so many great chilis to try but a lot of people had drinks too. I didn't make it to the pancake breakfast Sunday morning but in sure it was great. This is a super cool place to visit and I bet living here would be a dream.

This campground is nestled on the backside of Palomar Mountain…read more The name "oak grove" holds its value - the entire campground has tons of oak trees which create a lot of shade. we stayed in site #38 and it was perfect for our car with 17ft trailer. there was enough room for another car! The site space was huge, definitely able to accommodate 3+ tents. The sites are spread out enough so you don't feel like you're right on top of each other, which was great. They don't sell firewood at the camp, so make sure you bring some, or visit the market about 5 miles down the road. You'll pass a cute Bar (Garage 79) and a nice vineyard (Hawk Watch), which are worth a stop. Directly across the street is the Oak Grove Trailhead which was about 5 miles roundtrip up to the service road and back. The hike has great views! I really enjoyed this campground for a quick weekend getaway.

Each campsite comes with a fire pit, picnic table, and BBQ and wood fires are allowed. The campsites are close together and there isn't a lot of tree cover to give the illusion of privacy. Some campsites are better than others but all in all this was a great weekend getaway and the stargazing is unreal. Sites 49 and 51 on the Ribbonwood loop looked to be my favorites and I'll definitely book one of them next time. There aren't showers at this campground but there are flushing pit toilets and running water to wash hands and dishes. I wasn't able to find anyplace to throw out trash, so we wound up driving out with it to dispose of later. The host doesn't sell fire wood, but some can be purchased about 5 minutes down the road at the Rainbow Farms Market. ($7.99/bundle of pine.)

She got us all sorted and matched to our horses just as I would've myself and kept the riding tips short, sweet, and funny for my intermediate-experienced friends. (Horse girls are sometimes framed as overbearing and have a tendency to pack an attitude) - but not these instructors. Our guide was Jeff, a real cowboy this guy. Jeff was top tier entertainment and we thank him for taking all the girly photo requests! The horses were all beautiful, loved, and responded so well to our experience levels. This place was HORRIBLE!! First, we spoke to one of their reps a number of times in the two months…read morebefore going, and, to make a long, terrible story short, we found out upon arrival that we had been COMPLETELY MISLED. We had booked an entire month to stay here for $125, that we'd have to pay $125 per month for a year (a contract) and then would be allowed to stay there 4 months out of the year. (So $2000 for the year or $500 per monthly stay, which didn't sound too bad to us, given how they described the site and what it offered.) However, upon arrival we were quickly disabused of our previous FALSE information. The caretaker of the property, named John--a very pushy and curt guy--first explained, just minutes after arrival, that we would HAVE to take a tour of the place (with him) and then decide if we wanted to join a very expensive 1-, 3-, or 5-year CONTRACT, that could NEVER be cancelled for ANY reason. And the kicker? If we didn't decide to join, we had essentially 24 hours to vacate the property!! (Out by 12pm the very next day.) Please just imagine how livid and disappointed we were, who had been told we had a 30-day reservation for $125! Even though I was getting over pneumonia and was really looking forward to 4 weeks of R & R, and my wife was extremely tired and needed to rest, we pulled ourselves together and did the only thing we could: prepare to leave the next day and NEVER AGAIN return to this over-priced, dilapidated "dude ranch"--where there's apparently only one "dude"--the caretaker, John. You see, we arrived on a Saturday at the end of May and we were the ONLY guests staying there at the time, at least in the campground area. And we did NOT like what we saw: dilapidation most everywhere. There were a few nicer outbuildings, which didn't really concern us RV campers, But most everywhere we looked we saw things unkempt, run down, and just looking broken. For example--and this is a big one for RVers--all of the pedestals looked 20-30 or more years old. Some of them clearly not working at all. Our own pedestal had two BROKEN 30-amp outlets. One absolutely couldn't be used and was an obvious hazard, the other was broken partly, and our plug was quite loose--and never should have been used. I told John, the caretaker, that both of "my" outlets needed to be replaced. He told me that the one that was partially broken and loose "would be just fine and wouldn't present any problems." Even though I heard arcing/buzzing when I plugged it in! He eventually admitted to us that ALL of the pedestals were long over-due for upgrades. This place has been open for many years but apparently they're not all that interested in upgrades, even to critical--and dangerous--equipment. Btw, if you go on their Facebook page and look at the many pics, notice that are NO pics of the camping area (where it's so run down) except for a POSED image where you see a couple of horses right next to the caretakers own RV! I believe this is deliberate on their part b/c they don't want you to see the very old and broken down pedestals, the ubiquitous holes and mounds created by ground squirrels, the dry, weedy ground (and NOT green grass as we were told and a few of the pics suggest), nor do they want you to see the caretaker's medium-sized dog running amok and unleashed through the property. (We thus didn't take our little Yorkie out for a walk.) Finally, I must say a word about the 2-mile dirt entrance road into the ranch area. (Btw, this is absolutely not a working ranch! It does have several horses which can only be ridden on the weekends, and non-campers can bring their own horses to ride, but just don't expect a working ranch.) Now back to the 2-mile long entrance road: it is nothing but a hard washboard that will shake your vehicle or RV so badly you'll swear it's coming apart at the seams. It is a road from hell for RVs and trailers. I drove the slowest speed humanly possible and still my rig rattled like we were experiencing a 5.0 earthquake. We were never so happy to get out of there, and we'll most certainly not be going back. The only nice things that I feel compelled to describe are that it apparently does have a small, nice and clean pool, and it offers spaces to enjoy archery, basketball, tennis, very limited catch-and-release fishing, and of course horseback riding for young and old. Moreover, the lodge was a very clean and well-kept; it seemed rather new. It also had new (but apparently empty) bunkhouses. (On this particular Saturday in late May, we did not see another soul except for the caretaker.) But, as I've described, the camping area leaves a GREAT DEAL to be desired. Even if they were offering a great deal on memberships, we would never join b/c of the dilapidated condition of the campground. The site definitely has great potential. But in its current condition, it's just not worth paying for a membership.

We have been going here for years with other RV-ing friends and now cannot get in because we are just under the 30' min requirement. Too bad since they always have lots of vacant spaces. The best ways. The teachers are so good with the kids. You can tell the kids are really happy here. It's family involved which is really nice allowing parents to be apart of so much. Our families stayed in the health center, lodge, and electrified cabins, while our friends embraced the adventure of summer cabins and tents. The venue offers so many stunning spaces, from the spacious dining hall for meals to the stage/amphitheater with fire pits--perfect for s'mores and late-night stories. We exchanged vows at the top of a hill near the outdoor pavilion, with a gorgeous backdrop of pine trees and a view of Big Bear Lake in the distance. We were able to offer our guests camp activities like archery and a pool day, as well as had room to setup other activities like craft tables and lawn games. The biggest perk was the complete freedom to choose our own vendors, allowing us to create a truly personalized experience (huge shoutout to Scratch Kitchen for catering--our guests still rave about the food). We spent a year making signs, collecting décor, buying solar lights, and crafting to transform this Girl Scout camp into a full-blown wedding festival. If you're up for planning the details, this venue is the ultimate blank canvas. Last but not least, the Camp Osito Rancho team is absolutely amazing.
