One of the cutest parts is being able to go into the chicken coop and actually pet the chickens. The owners truly go above and beyond to make sure their guests feel welcome, comfortable, and well taken care of. You can tell they genuinely value the guest experience. And the location couldn't be better if you're visiting Temecula wine country. Oak Mountain Winery is literally right next door, and you're just minutes away from so many other amazing wineries. I especially appreciated what seemed like local art being used throughout the entire house to tastefully decorate -- without going overboard with clutter. That was well done. But, netting out at almost $800/night increases expectations and so it probably deserves more like 3 or 3-1/2 stars. It was a 3 bedroom home and was ok -- nothing fancy or high-end. So maybe the cost was based on the size? Importantly, what we really believed we were paying extra for that would have been worth the money was the "farm stay" aspect. It may have been a house on a farm property, but it was not a "farm stay experience." The only thing that came close were the animals, but their enclosures were small, cramped, on the side of the road (which was steep and hard to walk on), and the animals did not look healthy or well taken care of. The alpaca's fur was matted up and many of the chickens had bald spots on their backs, potentially due to overcrowding, rooster overbreeding, or aggressively going after each other in such a small space for so many hens (and hopefully not from parasites). It was a side show vs. a real farm experience. Back to the house, another attraction in the listing was the hot tub -- but it had a really horrible smell. The towels we used to dry off with kept the smell too. We used it on the first day, but not afterward. It's a shame. If the hot tub issue were fixed, the property is nice enough, but I do believe it is mis-marketed. It'd probably be very appealing for a bigger group who is visiting the Temecula wine country scene, but who doesn't want to be in the middle of the fray and, instead, wants a quieter location that feels off the beaten path. It should not be marketed as a "farm stay." And the poor animals should definitely go, especially as they feel like such an after thought on the property anyhow.

We were especially impressed with the nice bathroom with large shower and separate tub. Check-in was easy; like an Airbnb a simple code for room entry was provided and payment was made online. The property feels secluded and private and is very well maintained. There were only 4 or 5 rooms, I think, at this property. Each room has its own designated parking space. Like an Airbnb, bring your own amenities; other than soap and towels, nothing else was provided in the bathroom. There is a pool and hot tub but I never even saw either as they were on the back side of the complex and we pretty much just wanted to chill in the room. We planned a stay here just to relax and rediscover what a nap is. The huge downside for us was that the walls here are paper thin. The noise from the room next to us kept us from being able to relax or sleep and even woke us up the following morning. Conversations, the television, and the lovely sounds of snoring could be plainly heard by us. The most irritating noises from next door were the sounds of a babbling toddler who enjoyed running around the room; we were mistaken to think this is an adult-only type of villa. While we loved the room the noise didn't conform with our want of a relaxing vacation space.

This was a surprise anniversary getaway, planned by my boyfriend. This place is amazing. To think, I almost didn't make it due to a family issue. We were greeted by Donna and Scott right away. They were very understanding and even asked how my mom was doing. Talk about great service, Donna and Scott provided more than service. They were genuinely sincere and caring. You have a private house all to yourselves. You are the only guests and once Donna and Scott go inside their home you never see them and pretty much leave you alone, which means the deck and the pool are all yours. The guest house is quaint and cozy with a single bedroom, 1/2 kitchen/ 1/2 bathroom, and a cozy living room filled with shelves of books, movies, games, a TV, and air conditioner. The bathroom cabinet has amenities in case you forgot any at home. Underneath the sink there are more goodies for your use which include an iron, blow dryer, ironing board, hair spray, etc. The views are spectacular and at night the sky is so bright with stars. I fell in love with this place instantly...My only regret was that we only stayed one night. There are so many things to do in the area; Hiking and biking. The continental breakfast was great and satisfying. This bed & breakfast is very peaceful and very serene. The only thing that scared me was the road not so much during the day but at night. My boyfriend took me wine tasting, a carriage ride at South Coast Winery, and then to dinner so we got back after dark and it was a bit intimidating. Other than that we definitely relaxed that day. The cute thing, is they have this journal that guest can add they're comment to. It was interesting to see why other guest chose to come here and some of them are repeat guest. WE, will definitely be back to explore and add to our adventures. Hopefully soon. Oh yea, one minor thing that I didn't mind but made me feel uncomfortable is that the bathroom didn't have a door and since it's attached to the kitchen pretty much my boyfriend could of walked in on me. My fiancé and I just stayed here this weekend for a couple nights and had a wonderful stay. The…read moreplace is tranquil and secluded, away from Main St and all the noise, but only a 5 min drive away. Dawn and Ed are great communicators, they had cookies ready for us on arrival, and Dawn met us to check us in and give us info. We stayed in the Rose room, which is roomy, has a heater and an old fireplace which they give you wood for. Bathroom/shower has a separate heater, and the room has its own patio, but we found it's much nicer to explore the grounds and sit on one of their many benches and chairs spread throughout the hillside with nice views. There are cows across the street that are friendly, and we went to say hi to them in the mornings and feed them tall grass. And don't forget to step outside the cottage at night to gaze at the Milky way galaxy...you heard me correctly...not just stars, you can see the faint outline of the Milky way because Julian is a Dark Sky community and Ed and Dawn's place is very dark at night...epic! Breakfasts are a delicious two course meal of a fruit dish and main. Added bonus is chatting with Ed and Dawn about Julian history and getting tips on places to go/eat. Ed and Dawn were also accommodating to bring our breakfast to their outdoor patio since my fiancé had some smell sensitivity to the food cooking in the main room (but also, it's kind of nicer to sit outside, but then you miss communing with the other guests) The main breakfast/communal area has a bunch of books and movies you can check out and take to your room, along with microwavable popcorn...we watched Gone with the Wind on VHS with the fire burning at night...such a charming and memorable time! Thanks Dawn and Ed! Our only recommendations would be: 1) for those with allergies, getting some cotton bed sheets rather than microfiber/synthetic material (we asked but they didn't have any at the time) 2) while we loved the charm of the themed rooms, there is just a lot of stuff, i.e. old teddy bears/dolls on shelves, old style window curtains that are more for show rather than necessary since the windows already have blinds, these things just make the room feel crowded and also gather dust. But maybe that's just our minimalist preference? 3) The room is advertised with a Queen bed, but seemed more like a Full (perhaps it's a European Queen?), just seemed on the smaller side. In any event, we'll probably try to book the Apple room next time which has a King size bed (which was already taken during our stay) and has a view into the woods. 4) the couch/futon cushion is detached from the wood frame and has a tendency to slide around, and it's also bigger than the seating area, so you could end up sitting on the cushion but not the frame, thus falling down.
