A shout out to Shannon who hung out with me for my lunch visit. Very friendly, good service and conversation. Not sure why I hadn't been here with all my visits to Gulfport. The place is HUGE but was pretty slow during my visit. There is a bar in the back that is open air, and pool tables, which seemed like a pretty cool spot to hang out. There is a TON of tequilas to chose from if that's your thing and daily specials that seemed very reasonable. Your/Our clue should have been it was almost empty on a busy Sunday afternoon in town. The interior is very nice but more bar/game room with pool tables and dart boards. The server was friendly but after the meal was served kind of MIA for most of it and since we had a food issue took a while before she returned to deal with it. The meals were decent the shrimp tacos done well and the beans and rice good and hot. Their signature drunken tacos were so good but served more warm than hot. The first order of fries was cold and soggy, hence needing the waitress to return. The second order she brought was done much better. The Drunken Taco is uh-mazing! I love their Mexican Street Corn, QUESO, and Mahi Tacos. They are all unbelievable. Their margaritas are tasty and STRONG! I had one and I was set for the night- in the best way. Service was 10/10 on my first visit, but when I returned, it was less than great. I didn't actually end up staying because my girlfriend and I waited for about 10mins for water and a greeting- after a server had already quickly walked by briefly told us she would be right back. The vibe is sports bar-ish with pool and darts in the bar area. Super cool energy in there, but I prefer to take my food to-go typically. I came here with 3 friends on a Sunday late afternoon and the place had plenty of open seating. It's pretty big on the inside and has a good amount of seating outside on their covered patio, as well. If you're looking for authentic Mexican food, this is definitely not the place for that - The Drunken Taco is an American take on Mexican food. They have Korean tacos, ground beef tacos, empanadas, taco salad, and more all topped with cheddar cheese, sour cream, etc., - all the American-style Mexican night ingredients. We got the party sampler which was a huge tray of chips with queso, salsa, and guacamole. The queso was definitely the best dip, the salsa was okay, and the guac had huge chunks of uncut avocados which was tricky to eat no matter how much we tried to smash them. They were out of rice and beans which was included in a lot of of menu items. Since they were out of it, I chose a side salad to accompany my shrimp tacos. My shrimp tacos were good; their cilantro cream sauce with it was yummy. My friend got a burrito and it was pretty small due to them being out of rice and beans. They have a 2 for 1 margarita deal which is a super deal that we obviously partook in. We got various frozen and on-the-rocks margs. All were superrrr sweet and big, so if you're looking for a more subtle marg with not a lot of sugar, I would opt out of the margs. Our waitress was awesome; super friendly and attentive. Always trust the yelp. At least in the US. We had just finished a summer sunset at the beach and were looking for nearby Mexican on a Sunday. Not easy to find good Mexican with a vegetarian option open at 9 on a Sunday but this place came up and it was close by. I'm giving 2 stars because their tequila selection is impressive and their two for one margaritas is a good deal. We both enjoyed our margs too. Service wasn't great but wasn't terrible either. There seemed to be one server for the entire place and like 5 food runners. I'm sure that wasn't true but our server did take a while to get back to the table to take our order, drop the check, etc. My biggest issue is the food. I got their Baja chicken tacos, I think they were called. Supposedly they're famous or one of their most requested items-I forgot how the menu described it. Anyway, they were blander than bland. You shouldn't need to add salt to one of your most popular items but this needed salt and pepper to have any flavor. I'll give them this-the black beans and rice that came with the tacos was very good. So perhaps between the tequila selection and margaritas and black beans and rice I could go to 3 stars but it wasn't even mediocre. It's over 100 degrees outside and we need a relaxing place to crash after working all day. Plus we have our 7# YORKSHIRE TERRIER, Luisa Mae Alcott, with us; nicknamed Lulu- our "Little Woman". All 3 of us were welcomed as we delight in the cool booth in the bar. The shrimp tacos and quesadillas were delicious- even Lulu had a few bites. The blueberry beer was surprisingly good. I had dinner with friends on a Friday night at the Drunken Taco. We were seated quickly and advised there were 301 tequila choices and bonus, the margaritas were bogo. We started off with queso, guac and chips. I wasn't impressed with the chips and queso, but the guac was tasty. I ordered the taco salad with shredded chicken. It was humongous! I was barely able to eat half. The shredded chicken was juicy with a nice flavor. And the toppings were fresh. I would recommend this entree. My mango margarita(s) were yummy. I can tell you they were not light on the tequila pour like most places when there's a special. I ordered the medium size, which was plenty big enough. I would hope anyone ordering the large size should have a designated driver if you have two;) Our server was friendly and attentive. I should have read more reviews before we stopped here because we had a lousy experience. First, it's an odd set up to seat yourself and having large tables when there are only two people. Someone brought menus and said our server would be over. She did come quickly and told us margaritas were BOGO, so that's what we ordered. She brought us each a margarita and said she would be back with straws. She never came back and after a while, my husband got up in search of straws for us. We were just looking for apps, and settled on the empanadas and the queso dip. The queso dip came within 5 minutes. Huge portion of colored tortilla chips and a bowl of queso dip. The chips were EXTREMELY salty. The queso had a nice bite to it. After maybe 10 minutes, someone brought our empanadas. We had to ask for plates as we had none. They brought us saucers. Since the empanadas were large and the plates small, we cut them in half and each took a half. They were still frozen inside. Ugh. Called our server over and she took them away. Waited maybe 10 more minutes, and they brought back another plate, but I could tell the one we hadn't cut into was the same. We cut it open, and again it was still frozen. Server no where in sight so my husband went looking for her. Asked her to take it off our bill and bring the check. She explained they forgot to take them out of the freezer the night before and then didn't cook them long enough. This experience makes me want to lobby Yelp for a zero or negative star rating. Where do I start? The service was absolutely horrible (OK, I know, I was warned by prior reviews). In fact, it was easily the worst service experience that I have had for at least 30 years! The staff is lazy, rude and incompetent. Editorial note- please check out my prior restaurant reviews and you will see that I am not some troll or ex employee out to trash the restaurant. After waiting a while we were approached by a server ( and I use this term loosely) who acted as though we were bothering her. My wife and I ordered the chips and cheese dip and the empanadas. The former arrived quickly and it was fine, but nothing special. The empanadas arrived after a reasonable wait and looked great. We were sharing the order and my wife sliced open one of the empanadas and took a bite. Before I could even cut the other empanada she urgently told me to stop. The middle of the empanada was actually ice cold! The three servers had disappeared (and there was only 2 other tables with customers at the time) and after waiting more than 5 minutes, I grabbed the plate and walked to the bar to tell the bartender the problem. After waiting 15 minutes, our server brought out a plate of empanadas. We could easily tell that the empanada that we did not cut has been returned to us accompanied by a new empanada. When cutting the new empanada we found the middle to be as cold or more so than the original order. Again, I can not find a single server and now I am furious. Finally our server returns and informs us that they knew this might be a problem because the night shift failed to remove the (premade) empanadas from the freezer to thaw before the end of shift! Not at any time did anyone apologize or offer to make up for this disaster of an experience! In fact, one of the servers basically told me to go away when I expressed my displeasure. The management needs to fire all three of the servers working in the mid afternoon on Saturday, December 30, 2023. They could not find another serving team that would be as bad as this group. read more

It's been a while since I posted my first review of The Drunken Taco in Gulfport and I wanted to share a few updates: 1. Jesse and the team at TDT are still awesome. On my most recent visit, Jesse came over from the bar and, knowing we're big Mezcal fans, brought over two new items for us to try. I've included pictures of the bottles for your reference -- both very delicious, but my favorite of the two was the "Siete Misterios." If you like Mezcal and Mezcal Old Fashioneds, give this one a try -- what can you lose when they're 2 for 1? 2. There are some new food items on the menu worth your attention, most notably the Chimichurri Steak Tacos. Flavor, presentation, all excellent with this one -- I order them three at a time because I can't help myself. If you like churrasco steak, give this a try -- it's not THAT good, but it's definitely in the spirit of what you get with really good, tender, and flavorful churrasco. 3. There's a new and vibrant energy in the place now that more people know about it, especially as a late-night dining spot. It's open later than almost everything in Gulfport, and you're likely to find employees from your favorite Gulfport spots like Gulfport Brewing and O'Maddy's hanging out and enjoying drinks after their shifts are done. Ok food, but absolutely terrible service! I am local, so this is not my first time here, and the service has never been fantastic, but never as bad as today. Sat on the patio, snd it wasn't even busy at all. Took forever for a very cranky and clearly unhappy waitress to come out. Super NOT friendly. Made us feel very unwelcome. Ordered water, drinks, and nachos... The nachos came quickly and were OK. Good portion size. However, the drinks never came and the waitress never came back! After 20 minutes of waiting for drinks, we had to ask a bus boy to track her down. She eventually came out and very snotty said oh well, they delivered your drinks to the wrong table! Rolled her eyes snd sighed and walked away after we told her I guess you can forget the drinks at this point, since we're almost done eating and don't need them now. This woman truly should NOT be working in customer facing service, wow. Finally had to ask her for the bill, and we left zero tip. Wish I could leave a negative tip. Tips are for good service, and this was so bad and made our experience of trying to eat a meal here awful. They should pay us for ruining part of our day and meal experience. read more

After a long Saturday of lots to do, came over the Gulfport to try The Drunken Taco (previously Sea Dog Cantina). From an outside perspective, not much has changed. The decor is the same and we were told the staff are the same as well. The biggest change is the menu, a bit more limited and better deals on alcohol. Pros: - We got the nachos and portion size is huge (for 2 people). In fact, it was so big we didn't order anything else. - The drinks are strong. The tacorita was delicious and I'd absolutely get it again!! The mocktail was a hit as well. - Atmosphere is comfortable, lots of outdoor seating. - Staff in incredibly friendly. Cons: - They eliminated the majority of vegetarian options and their mocktail list. - While the colored tortilla chips are fashionable, they're made with artificial coloring which we'd prefer not. Unfortunately, the margaritas are $16 so it basically came out to $8 each for a margarita, which while sizeable and tasty, had barely any alcohol in it so probably not worth the $16. That's about where the good stops. I ordered the chicken teriyaki tacos and was very disappointed in the quality and portion of the chicken. I also subbed the waffle fries with queso which was an additional $3. There were only about 8 fries in a soup sized bowl. Definitely not the worth the price I ended up paying for everything. Another friend ordered the steak tacos and was also disappointed with her choice. The one thing that did get good reviews is the guac burger which surprisingly came with a reasonable portion of fries. However I would not recommend this spot. Overpriced and poor quality. read more
