Excellent Food, probably the best Mexican food I have had in the Tampa Bay Area. Guacamole was great, food was delicious. The server/host was very polite and professional. Very reasonably priced. Will definitely be going back.

Well, I have to say the food is very good and homemade. I do not forget to eat the guacamole.!! I had a chicken chimichanga and a tamale, which was excellente'!! there was two for one drinks all day and they have some great desserts too. That atmosphere and the music is so fitting too..

No it's not Casa Tinas or VIP. What it is .... Located at the end corner of strip mall ohh Seminole Blvd. You might could drive by 100x and never notice it. But it is here, and has been for years. It unpretentious... Basic...small and old.. However, old does mean dirty. Actually quite clean. Here you have a working owner, he greets most customers coming in. His welcome is warm and genuine. It's a small space, with mostly comfy booths for a max of about 40 patrons. No damn televisions! Instead nice soft Mexican/ Latin music plays.... Relax now and enjoy your meal..Or 2-4-1 margaritas. My lunch of steak tacos, refried beans & rice is not going to win any awards. But was adequate and as expected. Nice portion size. Having read other reviews here for this place. Some of the reviewers have never ever been here. Yelp is full of malicious 1 star fake reviews. Unethical competitors and perhaps a few SEO experts lowering their rating and thus their ranking. Id of gone 4 plus... But I'm going with 5 to balance out the fake reviews and because they do try their best...if something is ever not right. The owner is usually here. He cares. Bring the matter to his attention. I bet he will reach resolution. Don't just be a Karen and bash his biz with your exaggerated diatribe. .

    Beautiful sombreros on the wall

The food was absolutely amazing!!! The guacamole was made fresh and the food was authentic and portions were HUGE!!

Service was great! The soft tacos and fajitas were really good, as well as the queso! Would go again.

This is an amazing restaurant, food is amazing, margaritas are delicious. Portions are large, and who I assume are the owners are the friendliest people I have ever met!

**** Review 165 ****…read more Found this place while searching for a lunch place. So glad I decided to give it a try. It has been hard to find a good Mexican restaurant in the St. Pete area, most are too Tex/Mex or try to be "fancy" and everything in the menu is overpriced. This place had a local Mexican vibe, small and probably family owned. The staff were really nice and attentive. The place was clean, and plenty of items in the menu. Ordered the Lunch Fajitas with a Chile Relleno à la carte. The food was delicious, both the refried beans and the rice had flavor and no burning taste. The chile relleno was on the smaller size, but very tasty. They had a few beers on tap, and mostly bottles. I was actually surprised to see the place being a little slow during lunch hour, but they might be new. Either way, if your looks for great Mexican food in St. Pete, then you need to give them a try.

The chips were hot and super crunchy, and the salsa was very flavorful. I ordered the enchiladas rancheras and it was the perfect portion. The green sauce wasn't spicy but had lots of flavor, and I loved the texture of the chicken inside. The ambiance here is very well-decorated and cute, with some screens playing sports as well. The service was good too, our server was attentive and helpful with refills. The food came out very quickly as well.

That would've earned Carmelita's two stars, but the fresh guacamole ($7.00) was the most inexpensive that I've paid for. Come for the atmosphere and the guacamole and chips. Then leave. The flour tortillas were served up wrapped in tinfoil. Almost every Mexican and Tex-Mex place that I've been to has these cute little warming containers for the tortillas. The tin foil did not keep the flour tortillas hot. I ordered the steak fajitas ($19.99) with rice and refried beans for my side dishes. Mom ordered the Chile Rellenos ($16.49). Both dishes were plentiful and well presented. But they lacked any distinctive taste. Our server brought us two flimsy styrofoam containers for our leftovers. We had to ask for additional containers for the guacamole, chips, and salsa. It was hard to get our servers attention and we waited several minutes for any request to be attended to. Overall I was disappointed.

Here are some specific concerns we encountered during our visit last night: Our ordered consisted of the Birria pizza and three al pastor tacos. The food was bland and didn't meet our expectations. The birria consomé was lukewarm and lacking in flavor. I felt that the birria meat had no seasoning, which is typically achieved through the spices and chiles used during cooking, as well as in frying the tortillas served with it. My husband ordered the al pastor tacos and noted that the meat was not warmed at all, which seems unusual for tacos that are prepared to order. While the staff was somewhat attentive, we weren't offered any drink refills. we found ourselves with no drink towards the end of the meal. My husband usually enjoys having two or three cokes with his meal, and we felt overlooked as we weren't asked if we would like anything else during or after. We did appreciate the hot salsas that were provided, though we had to request them 10 - 15 minutes into our order. The restaurant was not particularly busy on a Tuesday night around 6 PM, so the lack of attention to detail was surprising. As someone who has cooked Mexican food for over 40 years, and having learned from my grandmother, I believe that a few adjustments could greatly enhance the overall dining experience. After a long day of work, I often find myself not wanting to go home and cook; this experience has made me reflect on our decisions going forward. Thank you for taking the time to consider my feedback. I hope it can contribute to improvements in your kitchen and service.
