Humorous duck names and for menu items and duck deco. We were greeted promptly, ordered drinks ( beers on tap) and got helpful input from our server about menu items. Staff was cheerful and singing along with songs that were playing on their sound system. We ordered the brisket burger, which was well seasoned and the blackened fish tacos in corn tortillas. I liked that the corn tortillas were thin and pliable and grilled. The fish was chopped up and covered with a non- gooey Cole slaw. Delicious. I don't understand how this place only has three stars on Yelp - I'm giving it five stars! Located a short distance from downtown Munising, it doesn't look like much from the outside, but inside it's cozy, clean, and serves excellent food. We even visited twice during our time in the U.P. The onion rings were the best I've ever had - fried to perfection, not soggy, didn't fall apart. Loved both of the sandwiches that I tried - the fried whitefish sandwich, and a breaded chicken wrap (called the Ringed Neck Duck). Again, perfectly breaded, not too greasy or heavy on the breading. And I loved the coleslaw, too. The service was great, and they have a very good beer list for a little U.P. joint. Outside seating is also available. read more

Nice place near Munising. We were here on a scuba diving trip and had some free time for dinner so headed to Christmas to check out some establishments. We saw this place and it had a beer garden so took a chance. So glad we did as the food was quite good and plenty of it. The sandwiches were all named after duck species which was cute. This is a great concept with teething (staffing?) problems. We arrived around 7:30 on Monday night and were told that there was at least a one-hour wait for seating/food. Person who told us that seemed to imply that we could not sit at the bar and have drinks while we waited - we blew that off and sat down anyway... and proceeded to enjoy several beers. Keweenaw Red Jacket to be specific. A handful of staffers - very dedicated, polite, hard-working ones - seem to be carrying this place entirely on their backs. When/If they go, fuhgedaboudit. Food of varying dishes was tasty - we had fish, burgers - and outside patio area is very pleasant. And it was at least 9:30 when we got done... which was fine, we wanted to enjoy some beers and they kept us supplied pretty well.. I hope they catch up with their feet! read more

This place has a horrible wait we waited about 1 hour 30 mins for our food which if the food was meh this would get a straight up 1 star. We did carry-out, so can't speak to the same slow service others have written about here. Our food was ready when we got there. With COVID still on the rise - and the Delta variant spreading rampantly across the U.P. - I was disappointed but not surprised to see nobody, including staff, wearing a mask. Hence why we did a carry-out. Staff was friendly for the short time I waited for my food to be bagged. ANYWAY, we both got the fish and chips, which were said to be fresh lake-caught. I got mine fried; my wife had hers grilled. For $15 a meal, we were expecting, you know, a meal. Back in Detroit, $15 fish and chips means getting leftovers. We got one thin piece of whitefish. Not that more than one piece would have made the meal any better. The only flavor on the fried fish came from the batter. There was absolutely no taste, not even salt, on the grilled. It could've been a frozen Gordon's fish filet; it certainly was no better than one. I got the fries with mine; my wife got the tater tots. Though there was no seasoning or salt on the grilled fish, the fries were insanely salty, to the point of having to wipe off each fry before eating it. The sweet potato tots were plentiful but weird and gross, having a really odd texture. I'm sure if we had dined in or stayed and had a few drinks, the kitschy U.P. woodsy interior might've earned it another star. But if I had caught COVID over such a beyond mediocre meal, I never would've forgiven myself. read more

This place has a large selection of beer and white fish options. All the beers were good and local, love to try local beers when traveling. The whitefish dip lost some of the white fish, too creamy and lacked flavor. Wings are delicious, good flavor and crispy ness. This is a review of the Grand Island Lunch Cruise and Duck Pond. Five stars for the boat cruise, captain and experience. We had a wonderful experience and the historical and natural information talk the captain gave was great. I have been on multiple other boat tours here and this one was my favorite. The boat is comfortable and has a restroom. Now, the Duck Pond Restaurant. Unfortunately, the service is terrible and the setup and planning for a package deal like this non-existent. I wish the cruise could be booked without the lunch or dinner and you could just do the boat cruise. It is very difficult for companies to find staff here in this small, rural area, which we understand because we live here. But...When you book you are told to arrive at 11:00am for the 12:00 lunch cruise which is not enough time for the amount of people that all descend at the exact same time as soon as the restaurant opens. Upon arrival you are greeted (?) by a grouchy, unsmiling individual (at least on the day we went) who asks if you are doing the cruise, takes your name and you're told to "sit anywhere". Unfortunately, on our visit, there were only two servers for the entire inside and outside of the restaurant. I feel badly for them because there is no way they are being set up for success however, that is no excuse for being rude. The servers are also tasked with trying to explain the process (or lack there of) on what happens next and how to get to the dock which not everyone could hear. It's like you are inconveniencing them. The restaurant is open to non-cruise guests as well who all start arriving at the same time. Your food order is taken first before you even put a drink order in because they know they are going to run out of time. You are told there is a beer menu but it's on a chalk board that you have to get up and walk over to in order to see what it says or what they have. You wait and wait for everything and then have to scarf your lunch down because there is not enough time for them to serve that many guests before noon which is when you are supposed to arrive at the dock. People were getting up from tables to get their own beers from the cooler, their own plasticware and napkins, etc. Water glasses, pitchers, tableware, etc. could have at least been set out at tables to alleviate some of the needs ahead of time. That, or section off one area only for boat cruise people and open to the general public later. There seems to be little to no management or planning. A lot of items were out of stock. A nice group asked for bloody marys for their table and were simply told "we don't have enough mix for that." No I'm sorry, no nothing. Folks are looking around concerned because they are fearful they are going to miss the boat which ended up being delayed because no one could finish in time. There is no bartender even though there is a bar, the servers have to do that too, so you can't get any drinks on time or at all in some cases. No management or supervisor was visible on site. You are wondering if you pay on the way out or pay a check at the table for any apps or alcohol (not included in ticket). You do have the option of taking a to-go lunch but that is not a good plan either because it's coming from the same kitchen as eat-in service. We read there was an option to get the meal after the cruise, which might be a better plan so at least you are not late for the boat, but the service probably won't be any better. The food (once we finally got it) was hot and okay but nothing great. It's kind of akin to just bar food you can get in a frozen section. If the process could be improved such that they did picnic or bag lunches, or staggered arrival times of guests it would be much better. Or even just pasties or bag lunches to go. There is no ability for more staffing in this area so there has to be some other solution. That, or just get rid of the food piece of it and only run the boat cruise. Maybe a meal ticket for an area restaurant or just include a couple beers or soft drinks with the boat cruise. The whole restaurant process just leaves people annoyed, frustrated, anxious and probably hungry. Thank goodness the cruise is so amazing. I really want to support a local business but I won't get food here again. This could be such a great place and set-up if managed correctly. The patio area is super nice and the restaurant is in a prime location. Sadly, it is just bad. I will 100% take visitors on the boat again, I just wish the price could be adjusted to get rid of the restaurant part all together. read more

We've been to The Duck Pond twice. The first time was with friends, food was really good, service ok. We liked it enough to go back again, which we did yesterday. This time, the food was really good again, but there wasn't enough of it. I feel like if I'm spending $16 for some grilled whitefish with one side, I should get more than a skinny little filet. I ordered potato salad as my side, which was ok and there was a very generous amount of that. I would have liked a side salad, but that is an additional $4, so I opted for the potato salad which had no extra charge. As I said, my fish was delicious, just skimpy. My husband's fish was not good. He said it didn't taste fresh at all, in fact it was fishy. I don't think there's any excuse for serving old-tasting whitefish when you're right on Lake Superior. Also, I'd like to add that it would be nice if the food was served on real plates instead of in a plastic basket with waxed paper. And some real flatware instead of plastic. You're charging nice restaurant prices and serving the food like it's fast food. read more

We had the pleasure of going to the Duck Pond on a Sunday night, a little bit out of season for this small tourist location. We arrived around 7:15 and the restaurant was supposed to close at 8:00. Right after we got there, the people never stopped coming until they closed. There was 1 waitress/bartender and 1 cook. You'd think with that many people coming in right before you close would be frustrating but those two did AMAZING. Abagail was so positive despite having to serve a full bar and 7 tables. She never neglected anyone and was buzzing around to make sure everyone got whatever they needed. The cook, Devin, never looked stressed, and he was knocking the food out in an expert manner. They were out of a lot of stuff but the food we got was great. Highly recommend the wings there. read more
