I had a good first visit to The Dugout on Monday evening. I had noticed the food prices were extremely low on the internet so thought they just had not been updated...nope...good pricing. I had great service by Elise and Jess. Elise was quite friendly when I entered the restaurant. Jess was especially engaging and made it a place that felt good. We discussed tomatoes, other bars in the area, etc. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 only because these two reasons: 1) No check back after I received the food. It was extremely quiet and there was time for a simple inquiry on my food. 2) The Reuben was excellent, except it needed more sauce. It needs to be messy and saucy. Great view of the televisions and different games that are on. I will definitely be back as I have already told our daughter and my wife of the positive experience. read more

I don't have high expectations of the strip-mall bars of Hillsboro and, generally, I'm not rewarded for exploring them. But the Dugout at least tries to make it a bearable experience. I first stopped in here after having my taxes done at the H&R Block next door. All I wanted was a sandwich and a beer, and the Dugout was happy to oblige. The sandwiches are simple: Deli meat and cheese on Franz bread. Fine. There's a ton of decent IPA on tap because it's Oregon, Coors for the surly grandads and Widmer Hefe for the regulars. Other than that, you're either watching what's on the sports channels at full volume or the music's on. I think I caught some early baseball, which was terrible, but what can you do? Over the years, I've stopped in while picking up tools and parts at Ace or groceries at the unpopular Albertson's. Hillsboro is a horrendous town for sandwiches and I honestly can't recommend getting one here. Jersey Mike's might be the closest thing to a passable everyday sandwich in this burg, which is a tragedy given how hard some places are trying. If you're making your own bagels, but it takes you 25 minutes to put sliced meat and cheese to bread, that ain't it. If you can assemble things faster, but your roll is an artisan baguette that fights each chew and rips up the roof of your mouth like Cap'n Crunch, that ain't it, either. The Dugout isn't a great sandwich, but it's both fast and there. It isn't long on atmosphere or ambience, but it'll work if you need a quick lunch and reason not to linger. In a town where most of the strip mall offerings are either BWW wannabes with way too many TVs and kids or lottery dives that deplete your faith in humanity, the Dugout is a welcome slice of mediocrity. read more

This is a great joint for grabbing a beer or two and watching any sort of sportsball you can think of. They have a great and varied tap list, ranging from numerous IPAs to...Coors Light. If that's your thing...! They also have a few higher end spirits and mini wine bottles. Foodwise, it's standard pub fare such as sandwiches, burgers and even hot dogs. They don't have a deep fryer so don't expect any fries or the likes as an option (which is fine with me! Removes the temptation). My favorite thing on the menu is their stuffed avocado - cream cheese, sriracha, wasabi mayo and almonds - DELICIOUS. They also have pool tables - BUT - the owner is super serious that you don't mess them up. No drinks near them, no hitting the ball off the table, etc. I can respect that but he has a mean eyeball if he's there and doesn't approve of your play. So, thank you dugout. Thank you for offering patrons good beer if you want to be a bar. Star point- Pool tables are essential to a bar. Pool tables that don't have hair, beer, throw up on it or smell like cabbage. Star point- Clean and barely used. Place must be pretty new. Could use some personality. There are a million sandwich and sports bars with TVs. Star point- Attentive and happy service. The bartender can really set the vibe for a small bar like this. Tonight, we attended the Dugout for the first time. We had the misfortune of meeting the owner and his also wife earlier tonight. To add to our misfortune, the lines were dirty so our beer actually tasted bad. Not only were we one of two groups under the age of 65, but we were treated with a healthy dose of disrespect simply for standing too near the pool tables with our drinks. I do understand that they are nice tables, but that's no reason to come give me a hard time. After the "owners" wife asked me to not stand so close to the tables (my drink was not touching the table) she sent her husband to cuss out my boyfriend and tell us to essentially just get out. Our trip was overall unfortunate, and we do not plan to return to this establishment. I hope the owner understands that drinking at his bar AND telling patrons how to behave is ironic and poor customer service. read more

The Dugout is kind of that - a bit of a hole-in-the-wall in a strip mall near albertsons, next to IHOP. This is a 3.5 star review - an extra half star because the service was good. Service: Great, friendly and fast service, nice folks. Beverages: Lots of beer on tap, nothing wrong with that. Food: My girlfriend got the stuffed avocado appetizer and ate all of it, so that is a winner. I had a pastrami Reuben, which was pretty average, but had nothing wrong with it. I certainly wasn't expecting Jewish deli quality, so I got what I expected. The nachos were as advertised on the menu - simply chips with 7-Eleven style cheese sauce. They have hot-dogs and other sandwiches on the menu. Prices: Good - Reuben was $7.95, no up-charge for getting pastrami instead of corned beef on it, score. Decor: Clean, funky football shaped tables, lots of TVs around with sports. A bit antiseptic in a way - it could use some more character, this is a Portland suburb after all. Other: I believe I saw an Xbox station for the kids to play at in the corner, that is a nice. I think this place has a lot potential, especially as a sports bar, since the area is a bit lacking in that department. Sat at the bar and was greeted with a beer menu. Their selection of local beers on tap is basically where the good part ends. Everyone there, other than me, was clearly a regular. I was just about finished my first beer when I was asked if I wanted another. Instead I asked if they had any food. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger. It came with a pickle and a bag of Lay's potato chips. The burger was overcooked and kinda dry. Later I ordered their "Signature Item", a Stuffed Avocado. This place is pretty much all you need if you're wanting to hang out with friends, watch some sports or just grab a pint! First off the beer - plenty of options and it's always rotating with a great mix of IPAs (my preferred choice), reds, ciders, lagers and everything in between. And of course things like Coors Light. They also always have a list of kegs on tap so you can see what's upcoming. They keep the kegs cool and lines clean so you're always enjoying a frothy beer. For liquors, there's the Smirnoffs, Pendelton and other basic liquors but it is by no means extensive., Also a very small selection of wine. Pints are reasonable and there's always a pint of the day for under $4. The menu is pretty simple grub fare, sans fried food as far as I can tell. I've had the pastrami sandwich and for the price - $7.50 - quality and quantity of meat it's one of the best I've ever had. It is truly thinly sliced and delicious. It just comes with some potato chips and a pickle so it's about as simple as you can get - and what else would you need? They have happy hour Monday-Friday, 4-7pm, and Saturday/Sunday 9pm-close, 4pm-close on Sunday. It's 75 cents off their draft beer but don't recall the food side of it. Service is always quick, nice and polite making for an entirely enjoyable outing. One note - they have nice pool tables but the owner is very serious about you not messing them up. No problem with that, just respect the rules and you'll be fine. Morgy's used to be my go to bar, but the Dugout has fast replaced it! read more

Just awful, and that makes me so sad. We have been here twice, once immediately after opening and later hoping they worked any kinks out. They did not. The first time we went, I ordered the Italian, it was drowning in coarse mustard and the meat was thrown/ stacked on the bread in a chunk rather than layering so you could enjoy the different flavors. I have never had mustard on an Italian. The second time I again ordered the Italian and asked for no mustard which is what I got. Unfortunately this time, instead of provolone as stated on the menu and one ordering an Italian might expect, Swiss was added to the sandwich. Same continent wrong country... It was also drowning in oil. Pouring off the sandwich. The food was bland and dull and not what we ordered or expected. I should have known better than to stray from the Beaverton Sub Shop which serves the best sandwich in the PDX metro area. I will continue to make the drive to get one of Chuck's perfect sandwiches. Well....I wouldn't call it "gourmet" but it was certainly quite good. Great beer selection. The owner sat with us for a bit to discuss the beers. I asked him if he makes a better Margarita or a better Bloody Mary. He said definitely the Mary. He was very honest about the mediocrity of the Margarita. Loved how clean the whole place was. Gonna come back soon to taste test that Mary. Only down side was bags of Lays chips with burgers & sandwiches rather than fries or tots but no fried foods on the menu. That's not necessarily a bad thing just not our preference. We'll be back to play pool & fill our growler. read more

The hubs and I have come here many times with both the kids and sans kidderinos and have just loved it. I think people forget that sandwich's, like burgers, are very subjective so there is a chance that it won't be made exactly like you want...and that is OK. The owners are so thoughtful and caring - if you don't like it, then give them the chance to make it right and they will. The beer selection is out of site, Period. Both trivia night and open mic seem to be a huge hit and not to be missed if you are looking to unwind on a school night. I've never totally enjoyed my many experiences at the Dugout, but today was completely embarrassing. My husband and I brought some friends to watch the end of the Blazers game. From the beginning, the service was merely adequate. I ended up having to physically locate my server in order to pay my bill. After paying my bill and going to collect my friends who were then playing pool, we were approached by the owner's wife who asked one in our group to step away from the pool table when consuming her vodka soda. She left and we agreed this was a reasonable request, even though my friend wasn't actually able to spill their drink because they weren't close enough to do so. As if this wasn't enough of a social gaffe, I turn around to see the owners and and their friends actually STARING at our group from across the bar. Shortly thereafter, the owner of the bar and approaches my friends partner and states "If you have a problem with what my wife said, you can leave". Another series of awkward back and forth ensued where the couple in question assured the owner there was actually no issue. The owner tells us "This is my bar, and I'll do whatever the fuck I want". I was absolutely appalled. Never have I been treated like just some hooligan. My friends and I are VERY respectful patrons, and I am embarrassed to have been subjected to this vile language, as well as the general feeling that we were looking to damage property. Needless to say, we left immediately, and I intend to never return. read more

I honestly don't even want to give this business 1 star! IT WAS AWFUL! A team from my work goes into the Dugout regularly on their lunch break.. couldn't tell you why.. I was invited in with one of my co-workers, I was rushed to order. Then 40 minutes goes by and I am shocked that not only did we not receive our order, but the waitress didn't even check on us, or let us know what the hold up was. This woman knows our company goes in on an hour lunch period, and paid no attention to us one bit. Didn't have time to eat and I took it to go, so it will get soggy and it was a waste of my time and money. I will NEVER return, and highly doubt my co-workers will return either. This used to be a regular place for us to visit. Finally made it back after a few months to watch the Seahawks game. After a few minutes we finally got to order drinks and before we could order food, the bartender/waitress left. We then asked her to change one tv to the game and she said she wouldn't because others were watching the TVs. Finally the other male bartender changed one tv for us and others. We proceeded to wait 1 hour and watched half an NFL game and gambled before we left. Not once did the bartender/waitress come check on us.
