This place is small and cute! The inside was very clean and cozy. We ordered on the kiosk machine, so we didn't really interact with the staff, but our food came out super quick! There were 3 of us, and we ordered a variety of dumplings to try and they were ALLLL amazing! I also got the spicy beef noodles. They had so much flavor and were delicious, but unfortunately a little too spicy for me to fully enjoy the whole meal. Highly recommend! Was in town picking up some friends from the airport and stopped by The Dumpling lady for lunch. It is located on the street so you will have to pay for parking. The inside is fairly small so we noticed a lot of people getting take out. Thankfully we were the only ones eating in so we got the family style table in the corner. It is a self order restaurant with 2 machines waiting for you. We ordered so much stuff! I got the scallion pancakes which were so good! I also got the veggie dumplings, chicken dumplings, and the shiitake chicken noodles. Everything was amazing! My friends also enjoyed their orders but be warned the chili peppers next to the orders are no joke. My friend got the spicy beef and those 3 chili's were accurate lol. Ohhhh how I love her Sweet Pork Belly dumplings. They have the most delectable and delicate thin wrappers with copious amount of meat that is moist and packed with flavor. Each bite is an explosion of chilling oil, onion, and five spice which plays well with the sweet pork belly. Its cute and cooked so its not greasy or crispy but succulently moist. This location offers a lot of the same items the main location offers. What I like is that they don't put the chili oil on top of the dumplings but offer it on the side. Everything was tasty. My favorite items were the Cumin Beef Noodles and the Fried Rice. The Cumin Beef Noodle had some spicy flavor but it wasn't too spicy. The noodles are thick and absorb all the flavor from the cumin sauce. The fried rice is light and airy. It was mild and was a delight to cool the palette. This location is small. There aren't many tables and it's not good for large groups. We only had 4 in our party and it was hard to eat family style with the available seats. If you're on a long haul drive, let's say from New York down to Alabama and happen to stop in Charlotte and perhaps you stayed at the hotel near the airport, you should definitely order from here. I would say this is homestyle as dumplings get. I got the pan fried style with the Sichuan oil, the fried rice and then the obligatory tea. I did also pick up a mason jar of chili oil because I just needed some spice for the month and a half I was going to be spending in school. This will remind me of some of the dumplings I've had in Chinatown in New York City, even with the delivery, the edges were crispy as you can see in the pictures and the fried rice had chopped green beans in it. I wouldn't recommend visiting here an hour prior to close. You will be offered a limited menu. I can only assume that they are going all in with COVID service. Even though everyone around them is offering full menus until closing, Dumpling Lady is paying homage to the past by saying no to more money. The dumplings are of good size, and the filling is flavorful and isn't just meat mush. Even after a 20 minute ride, they stayed crisp and warm. There's enough in one order that someone with a good appetite will be satisfied but not stuffed. If you're like me and don't deal well with spice, get the spicy sauce on the side and just use a smidge. It's good, but it's pretty hot. read more

I'm unbelievably obsessed with the dumpling lady. I have been to both locations, south end and optimist. They are both great but I prefer the south end location. The dumplings are amazing - I feel like they are bigger at the south end location. They also add something to the bottom of the pan for the dumplings and it creates this lacy crunchy bottom that soaks up the amazing chili oil. I really enjoyed trying the dumpling lady! It's a great location with a few parking guest spots in the deck near by. They also have free street parking. It's also in walking distance to many bars. I loved the pork dumplings. The sauce was spicy which I love - might be too much for some people so you may want it on the side! I asked for shrimp & chicken potstickers however, I noticed I was given just chicken. I enjoyed them so I didn't complain.
