This food is the best Chinese food in Charlotte!!! I ordered it off DoorDash and was really pleased with it. I will definitely be a regular.

Decided to try this place as I was on a hunt for Chinese soup. Ordered the wanton egg drop and hot and sour soup and both were delicious! The chicken wings were flavourful; loved the crispiness on the outside and juiciness on the inside! Chicken teriyaki was good but a bit dry in some areas, probably because they use chicken breast instead of thighs and were not deep fried like other places. I would order it again as the sauce helps to soften it up! Be warned though, it's in a sketchy place!! We were about to pull out after picking up our order and some dude on a bike came to our window! Didn't even check to see what he wanted, just drove out of there!! Will definitely be back, just at an earlier time! read more

I love this spot! The shrimp or chicken with garlic sauce is the best I've ever had! Perfectly cooked shrimp in a garlicky slightly sweet brown sauce. Yum! Steamed rice on side with all main orders. Combo orders are half meat veg and half steamed rice but the full orders are easily 2 servings and worth the price. My partner always gets the moo goo Gai pan, basically chicken and veggies in a white sauce. Always delicious and always on time! Good prices and quick meals. read more

I wish Charlotte had better Chinese restaurants. Every where we've tried (and we've tried a lot) are just average. Hunan Express is just that... average. Nothing was awful but nothing was mind blowing, either. We had a couple apps -- teriyaki chicken skewers and fried dumplings. I liked the sauce that came with the dumplings. The chicken with garlic sauce dinner combo was good and came with fried rice and an egg roll. The sauce on the dish was good and they didn't drown everything in it (like other Chinese restaurants are apt to do) but the veggies were a little over cooked/mushy for my taste. I hadn't been to this place in YEARS, not for any particular reason I just hadn't. My husband and I were looking for some food to order and this was the last chinese spot that was still delivering at the time so we gave it a try. This restaurant did NOT disappoint, the food was ready and out for delivery in no time! The taste was amazing, and we ordered our food spicy which they actually made spicy. This place was so good we ordered delivery from them the next day and once again everything was amazing. 10/10 would recommend? read more

Chicken Wings are hairy and gull of feathers. Could not enjoy my BBQ wings. I could see the clumps of feathers under the sauce! Gross.

I've never written a yelp review because I think others do a better job than me. I've also worked in the service industry and my boyfriend is a local chef. I've never had worse Chinese food or service. I do live in San Francisco so I am a little jaded however I still have a favorite back road Chinese place in Virginia. They took my address wrong after submitting online and three phone calls. I had to go pick up, and they double charged me for the order and then asked if I would come back in to sign. Mistakes happen, fine. I ordered wonton soup with fried won tons, general tso chicken, crab Rangoon, and an egg roll. Everything was previously frozen, flash fried, and then just soggy. The Best was the general Tso and even that was mediocre. I love American Chinese food, will definitely never order it from here or charlotte again. read more

My friends and I ordered $70 worth of Chinese (5 meals plus 6 appetizers) expecting mediocre/cheap-end Chinese. Hunan delivered with tasty albeit unhealthy Chinese food at a low cost. I ordered the general tso's chicken and my biggest complaint is that it was a bit dry/over fried. I wish I was offered fried rice instead of white, but I guess that option varies from place to place. I tried the chicken lo mein and that was quite tasty. I also had some crab rangoons and I would say they were average - not amazing but I've had worse. I try not to order Chinese often, but if I have a friend looking for a cheap, college-style Chinese joint in the Echo Hills area, I might point them here. read more

Some of the best Chinese food I've had in Charlotte. Everything was cooked perfectly, and the sauces weren't too sticky or sweet. We tried the orange chicken, sesame chicken, and the chicken and broccoli. All delicious! My only complaints would be that the fried rice was a little salty and the crab Rangoon were a little small/under filled. Otherwise it was so, so, so good. read more

It's a dive. Over salted (and I like salt) items abound. Undercooked chicken (squishy!) And sesame chicken was basically in a syrup, not a sauce. Hot and sour soup wasn't good (looked good though) Got charged for water. Worst $9 (after tax and water) buffet ever. read more

My go to Chinese meal is the Hunan Chicken. So of course I ordered it again to compare to my last takeout from here when it wasn't spicy. Most places rarely meet my expectations for spicy so this isn't a slam on this place. Oh wow, this time it was spicy! I dipped my spring roll in the brown Hunan sauce and it was tasty. First time, I didn't use soy and duck sauce on my egg roll. Like most places they will also let you substitute the brown rice for the white rice. I'm so happy with the spicy Hunan Chicken and the $8.06 price at dinner. read more

I ordered the Shrimp Mei Fun. There was ZERO flavor of any kind to this dish. NO curry, garlic, of ginger added! For $10, the dish turned out to be a mass of rice noodles, with oil, onions, and a few shrimp thrown on top. What the %$#^?! read more

This place is exactly what I've been looking for since I left my old place in FL 5 years ago! Great prices, quick service, large portions, and great flavors. There's something to be said about take out joints, I don't want all white meat in my general tso's chicken, this place gave me what I wanted. Tried their shrimp phad thai and it was delicious too, better than many Thai places. Spent $45 and it was easily enough for 6 people. Very happy. Will be back! read more

Don't let the location scare you. This is one of the best Chinese restaurants in all of Charlotte. He owner is very attentive and friendly. Always has a smile and makes everything himself. We've been going to Hunan Express since we moved to the area. The portions are always generous and the food is delicious. I have never tried the buffet but always ordered from the menu for take out. Tasteless! I ordered Pad Thai with Tofu. No bean sprouts, really chewy and hard tofu, some peanut pieces and NO rice, peanut sauce! Never again. The crab rangoon was terrible and it was not fried. They were stale and chewy. Steamed dumplings were OK. 3 other people ordered and no one liked their food. Either something was missing or old and stale. read more

When I first started ordering, the food was edible...NOW it's unreal. My last take-out was so salty it left me with a headache. I paid for shrimp and they tried to give me chicken (which was mushy). Luckily I checked my box before leaving the restaurant! When I told her I ordered shrimp, her reply was "not good enough?". UM NO I PAID for shrimp. I ordered from this place because the yelp reviews were higher than the other one I've ordered from. Big mistake. The egg rolls are disgustingly soggy, my wonton soup came with 3 wontons and I had to throw my chicken and broccoli away. It's just not fresh ingredients, everything tastes like it went bad and the chicken was chewy. Very nice people but never again. read more
