Awesome food and amazing service. Restaurant is very clean. The ambiance is awesome.

This was our 3rd or 4th time having a meal in this beautiful dining room. We'd previously stayed at the lodge 2 years ago and enjoyed dinner and breakfast. This time, we arrived on "all you can eat shrimp night," which was a Friday. This special (about $30) wasn't on our radar. Instead, we had fried mozzarella sticks with marinara sauce, and entrées of fried chicken (with red potatoes) and fish tacos (with fries). Both turned out to be excellent choices. I really enjoyed the fish tacos, which included a choice of fries or slaw. We also had breakfast in the dining room the next day. Once again I chose tacos and was not disappointed. They were a wonderful combination of flavors. There was a choice of sausage, ham, bacon, or any combination in each of the 3 tacos. If you are sensitive to having lots of sodium in your food, do be careful what you order. Food, atmosphere, and service were great. Make your reservations ahead of time or risk being stuck with a late one... as we did. Weekends get very busy! read more

Went last night for the All You Can Eat - Shrimp - 29.99 as I'd been told by neighbors how scrumptious. We arrived at 5pm and were promptly greeted then seated. Our server greeted us and took our beverage orders. Beverages arrived quickly, after which our orders taken. 2 crab cake dinners, 1 liver n onions, 2 shrimp specials. My sides were coleslaw and greens. It didn't take long for our entrees to arrive. When my fried shrimp were placed in front of me, they looked almost burnt. I knew they'd taste likewise. Shame on me for not sending them back. The cook that prepared them had to have known they were fried too long. The server should have noticed as well and asked the fry cook to refire the order. Lastly, I should have refused them. They were fried dark brown. The shrimp were leathery and dried up. I busily scraped off as much breading as I ate them. The greens were so bitter, I only ate 1 bite. The coleslaw was good and was the highlight of my meal. The other 4 diners enjoyed their meals. Time for dessert - we were deciding between hummingbird cake, the ginger cheesecake and key lime pie. Out server came table side and informed us the kitchen was out of all three of our choices. We all passed on the remaining choices. On a Friday evening, starting the weekend, how could the kitchen be out of half their desserts? We received our checks, paid our bills. Ac was out and it was miserable I decided to order to go instead as couldn't sit inside. Just got an appetizer so can't fully judge on food. Smoked dip, the bread was good but the smoked dip was just tuna fish or chicken salad texture and taste. Staff is nice. read more

I have a gripe. When you enter the Wakulla Springs State Park to go to the Edward Ball Dining Room, you still pay an entry fee .... generally $6 per vehicle. I had family visit and we had decided to eat dinner at the Edward Ball Dining Room restaurant. Two cars .... $12 dollars. The restaurant discounts the cost of the ticket into the park when you eat dinner there. Well and good; except ..... We had a $50 dollar gift certificate given to us by some friends. They paid hard earned cash, $50.00, for this gift certificate. When we went to pay for our meal at $210.00, we discovered they do not honor the discount when you use a gift certificate. GIVE ME A BREAK! Basically what they did was devalue the gift certificate by $12 by not honoring the discount for the cost of the entry fee for the park. Bottom line: our gift certificate of $50.00 was only worth $38.00 as we had to "eat" the loss of the ticket discounts with our meal. What a stupid thing for them to do. The dining room at the Lodge at Wakulla Springs has potential to be a great place - it feels fancy without pretension, the food is a step above your typical sit-down fare. It is popular with visitors and locals. The service could improve though. After being seated by the hostess, it took over 15 minutes for the waitress to come over. She did apologize for the wait, but a quick acknowledgement much sooner would've be nice - maybe lack of communication between the hostess and waitress, or maybe it's training. After placing order for the AYCE Shrimp dinner (Friday night special), it too a while for the waitress to return with my glass of water, so when a second staff member came by to refill my drink, I had her put in my second shrimp order. And after requesting my bill, I did get another apology for the wait when that arrived. I was starving but not in any rush. The food was really good, but the waits were too long. read more

Everything we had here today was tasty and flavorful. I had the Bee Charmer Salad. I enjoyed the various textures and flavors. My SIL had Gumbo and Fried Green Tomatoes. The Gumbo rue had the right balance of flavor and seasoning. The portions of shrimp and sausage were appropriate to the serving size. It was a bit mild, but she still enjoyed it. The Green Tomatoes were well-breaded (according to my SIL; I thought it was too much). The flavor/tang of the tomatoes was great. The historic ambience of this lodge is worth the visit. The food, on both of my visits, has been less than desirable. The most recent visit was for an 80's themed mystery dinner theatre. It was a lot of fun and engaging but for the $100 per person, the food disappointed completely on this visit. I was looking forward to the chicken with lemon butter since that's one of my favorites. They were changing out the trays to bring out new filets when we were serving ourselves at the buffet, and the meat was very dry. Everyone at my table left a plate with half the chicken left. The banana pudding was extremely soupy and would have been better served on a bowl than on a plate. The vegetables were average with the asparagus being chewy. I did contact them and obtain a refund of the meal portion which I felt was very fair. I was considering returning for the Christmas dinner but decided not to. I may give it one more chance. The events are enjoyable and the visit to park itself is always wonderful. I really enjoyed the Swift Night Out event a couple of years ago. It didn't involve food but a ranger discussing the chimney swifts' return to the Lodge chimney. That was phenomenal. So I recommend the events, but be prepared for marginal food as it is hit or miss. read more

We visited the Edward Ball Dining room for my sister's wedding breakfast this past weekend! Beautiful antique building beautifully preserved and decorated! The food and service were splendid! We had The Lodge Breakfast which consisted of eggs, bacon, ham, breakfast potatoes and white toast. Also had the chocolate chip pancakes which were big and fluffy! We had drink service cart available for our group which consisted of lemon water and ice, all set up very nice for our group. Highly recommend to stop in for a bite of passing through this gorgeous area of "old" Florida! read more

Old world charm and the food is very good too. They have beautiful Grounds and if you want boat trips.

My shrimp were prepared expertly and my waiter quickly my shrimp when I ran out. Servers were very kind and pleasant.

Amazing best secret! Restaurant and hotel, play checkers, walking trails, swim, boat tours, shop, and have a whiskey milk shake at the old ice cream counter! This is our family tradition coming here and love every moment! read more

The Edward Ball Dining Room at Wakulla Springs State Park is one of the most consistently excellent dining experiences we've had. It is also very reasonable, given the quality of food and outstanding service. Their all-you-can-eat Shrimp Special on Friday is an amazing deal. They also have Specials for Burgers on Tuesdays, Oysters on Wednesdays, and Prime Rib on Thursdays. But their unlimited shrimp special on Fridays ($24.95 with two sides) can't be beat. Arrive hungry! (They also have special buffets for holidays.) Their fried green tomatoes with house-made remoulade sauce, pickled onions, scallions, and feta is wonderful. All of their salads are excellent, but we especially love the Bee Charmer salad with huge grilled shrimp and cavatappi pasta. Their shrimp Po Boys and Fish Tacos are terrific as well. Although we usually go on Fridays for their AYCE shrimp: We have also had their Shrimp & Grits, Panhandle Chicken Breast, Grilled Beef Liver, and Napolean Stack (great for our vegan and vegetarian friends). All were excellent. They have a nice selections of sides, with their potato choices and vegetable medley being standouts. We have always been too full for their desserts: but all of the choices look amazing. The adjacent soda fountain is very charming, and serves old-fashioned treats like Root Beer Floats, Cherry Phosphates, and Ginger Yips. (They also have an amazing Banana Split!) The soda fountain also serves a nice selection of sandwiches and snacks; and has a great variety of reasonably priced items in their gift shop. We have always had amazing service here. And the ambiance, view, and amazing lodge (with its historical "old Florida" photos and memorabilia) are a lot of fun. Definitely a place to bring your out-of-town friends! Two other things to note: The Dining Room does require reservations; and if you bring your $6.00 parking receipt to the Dining Room: They will deduct that amount from your total. All in all: Dining experiences at The Lodge at Wakulla Springs are highly recommended! read more

I had heard that their holiday buffet was really good so we decided to try it Christmas Day. Our reservation was a 4:00 pm and I guess by then they were running out of food. The ham was down to a few dried up pieces the beef roast was very raw and impossible to chew. The potato au gratin was dry and hard and some of the potatoes had turned black . We each paid $70 which included a 20 % tip for probably $5 worth of really bad food. When I said something to the waitress she replied that they had served a lot of food and that was to be expected. REALLY?? Don't offer reservations if you don't plan on having edible food especially when you charge such a high price for a small selection. NEVER AGAIN!! read more

We had the buffet lunch on Christmas Day. While the meats (ham and grilled sirloin) were good, none of the side dishes were hot! The green beans looked delicious, but they were barely warm. Same with the candied carrots. Neither my husband nor I had seconds. The desserts, particularly the apple pie squares and the chocolate pie, were tasty. We don't drink alcohol so can't attest to their selection. But at $70 per person, this buffet was terribly overpriced. (Cost did include a tip. We aren't sure if it included alcohol or not since we didn't imbibe.) I was disappointed overall. We'd really looked forward to the meal and had the side dishes been served hot, I'd likely have a much better opinion of the place and the meal. read more
