A GenX / boomerish dive bar for the not too quiet, not too raunchy, and not so chic inclined patron. Live music on a regular basis and it would appear this would be where "everyone knows your name" but it seemed most folks here on the night this Saturday night when Nevada Highway Band played were supporters of the band. (Not to say it isn't a locals/regulars sort of spot.) The drink pricing was on par for local pocketbooks and the vibe was super casual and friendly. Always fun and welcoming- plenty to do whether it's playing pinball, pool, slots, or watching sports or puppies or Bob Ross on the big tvs behind the bar. There's no food unless you count popcorn or a semi-decent bloody mary. The lead bartender, Deidra, is an absolute nightmare who constantly fires folks without cause and screams at bands on stage that *she* hired while trying to stop them from retrieving their equipment from the storage closet *she* told them to store it in. I'm amazed this place is still open. Maybe it's because the tweakers from Rail City need somewhere to go when they're kicked out across the street. Deidra, you make me embarrassed to admit that I'm from Sparks. When this business fails, it will be on your shoulders. And I hope it happens soon. When we walk in the bartender asks us what we want, we are sitting at the bar in front of machines and I have already put some money into the poker slot machine. We wanted a Coke and a bottle of beer and he says that would be $7.50. I said even if you're gambling? And he says, Well, you have to put at least 20 in the machines, and then he takes our $10 and brings back $2.50 in change. It's a bar with a good atmosphere. Beer is reasonably priced and cold. I typically stop in when I come into Reno from Dayton. Deidra has a great personality, is sassy, and nice to chat with. I'll continue to stop in for a beer because everyone I've met there is easy to get along with. Hang in there Deidra....don't let the former employees get you down! So I just came in from Vegas, never been to Reno/Sparks. Just so happened to find the Elbow Room. This place is the best Dive Bar I have seen in a while. The bartender Kris is so amazing. She makes you feel so welcome and just at home. Always smiling and had a great conversation. She told me all about the area and some cool places to check out. It's always so hard to review neighborhood bars. Elbow Room is a pretty typical one, to all appearances. The clientele seem to be comprised of pretty much all the recreational drinkers between ages 30 and 70 who live within a four block radius. There's nothing hip or trendy about this bar. It's got all the bar decor we've all seen a thousand times - quirky signs, beverage advertisements, a pool table. It has slot machines and slot promotions, although no one was gambling when I was there (and why would anyone, with about five cheap casinos within walking distance?) The selection of draft beer was pitiful - just PBR and Miller High Life, and they were all out of Miller. But I wouldn't call it a "dive bar," either. It's clean. Some attention has been paid to the decor. No one was obnoxiously drunk. The bartender appeared to be cold sober, and was actually doing her job rather than socializing. Smoking is allowed, but the ventilation was good and I didn't come out of it with smelly clothes. Most of the people there seemed to be friends; you can tell it's an important gathering spot in some peoples' lives. Sometimes you can say everything that needs to be said about a bar by describing what the patrons put on the jukebox. In this bar, it's Johnny Cash and Metallica. So, there you have it. A note: Elbow Room is in the "seafood" category on Yelp. I have no idea why. The only food they serve is potato chips and pork rinds, neither of which are composed from ingredients that used to know how to swim. read more

I reccomend everyone coming to this bar. It speaks for itself. It's a classic dive bar but that's what makes it so great. Stopped in randomly with my gf on a Thu night on the way home from Rail City and was a bit blown away. Looks cool (potentially sketchy from the outside), but the inside is immaculately clean and comfortable. While driving by I remarked to Stephanie that this is an iconic local bar that we had yet to visit. Well, Im glad that we did, and we will be back. We're more beer drinkers than cocktail connoisseurs, but again between the cleanliness and comfort (for a classic "dive" exterior) I can highly recommend The Elbow Room.
