Met up with some friends that I haven't seen in a very long time (pre-college). They were in Richmond for the week while their youngest had a speech competition and actually live in Guam. We picked Electric Palm since it was the middle point for all of us. It is a cool location being by the boatyard, near the the Occoquan Lake and close enough to 95S. Have to take the family there next time. We got seated right away, no wait, ordered drinks and fried catfish appetizer - very tasty. For mains, one had lobster roll, one had crab cake platter and I had the salmon. All were made fresh, hot, and had the right amount of seasoning. I devoured mine - no leftovers. The food is good but the service needs work. We had a party of 12 and ordered drinks, apps and entrees. We specifically asked the waiter to bring out the appetizers BEFORE the entrees (you really shouldn't have to tell any restaurant this, but it happens a lot). Of course, everything came out at the same time. Also, what restaurant doesn't offer free refills on sodas? When I got the bill, I noticed that I was charged for a lot of sodas. I asked the waiter if they charge for every refill and he confirmed that they do. Customers should really be informed of this before offering to refill your glass. read more

So happy with my seafood meal here. I had the shrimp pasta in garlic sauce and my friend had the seafood risotto. Both had fresh seafood and lots of it. The stars are for the marina and river view, not the food!!! Gregory P was our server, he's soft spoken and can barely hear him over the music. The apps were decent fried oysters and calamari but the entrees needed work! Fish tacos are overcooked and bland. It was chewy. I didn't send it back but should have! My friend Andre brought me here and the staff and owner are super jovial and professional. The drinks and beer were really good. And the location has a nice harbor scene. I tried their Dirty Chicken, the Cajun sauce was soooooooo good. A bit pricey but the portion was good that I was able share half. This was a nice find. The restaurant had a live band that we enjoyed and had a late night menu. We had wings, egg rolls, fish, fries, flat bread and funnel fries. It was good to be hanging out by the water at the Electric Palm. The place was hopping for the Battle of the Bands finals. Even with the big crowd the service was fast and efficient. Cool beers and Electric Palm Rum Punch made the afternoon fun. They have a nice menu and everything we ordered was delicious; nachos, southwest egg rolls, BLT, shrimp ceviche and tater tots. I'll start with the good: the bacon cheeseburger was actually really tasty. That's about it. The service was ... meh. She acted like she just didn't care and didn't want to be here. There's no organization to the place, so you just kind of wander around until you find someone to ask if you are supposed to seat yourself. The drinks were pretty terrible. The server actually tried to down-sell me from a signature drink to a rail drink. Never had that happen before. It definitely tasted like rail crap and a cheap mixer. The location of this one is prime, but it seems as if this place deals in more of a weekend or night trade. I'm more of a day or happy hour guy, so things seemed a little slow for me. Visited the restaurant on a Sunday around 4pm. I ordered a Cosmopolitan that wasn't drinkable to me. My first tip off that it wasn't made correctly was that it was bright, bright red in color where a properly made Cosmopolitan is a light pink. I tasted it and it tasted like the most off cranberry juice with vodka. I passed it off to another member of my party who was able to drink it despite it not tasting great. I decided to order a cocktail listed on their menu figuring they must be able to made it well. I watched the bartender fumble behind the bar making this lemon drop martini. When he served it to me it was spilling over the sides off the glass dripping down the sides. He also plunked I. Two giant lemon wedges on would use in a glass of iced tea so I had lemon pits floating in my martini. He also stuck in a straw (ummm weird). The martini was also served at room temperature. It tasted like watery lemonade. Anyway, I decided to cut my losses and drink it after fishing out the giant lemons, the straw and the lemon puts out of my drink. My party ordered dinner. The bar tender (we had to walk over and order from the bartender because a server never tended was not familiar with the item I ordered-- the BBq chicken sandwich and said they don't make one. I had to pull up the menu u and show it to him. The others in my party ordered a fish sandwich and kids macaroni and cheese. When the food came, they brought the chicken sandwich and the kids Mac n cheese by the fish sandwich didn't not come out for another 15 minutes. The chicken sandwich was ok. The fries served on the side of all our meals all tasted like fishy seafood. I assume because the oil in the fryer must be old. The Mac n cheese went uneaten after one bite as it tasted "off". Not a great meal at all but we were hungry. Maybe it was an off day.. maybe not. My first time here but I don't think I'll be back. read more

I went there for an event I was invited to and there is no way I am going back after ordering a single drink. I had ordered a red bull vodka and my server brought out what tasted like red bull vodka mixed with water. Cheap vodka is not a problem for me, so I know the taste of cheap vodka, and that my friend, was mixed with water. I actually GAGGED when I turned the cup around and saw fresh lipstick on the rim of the cup. When the server came back, I told him what was on the cup and explained I wasn't wearing lipstick. The server took my cup and said he'd get it straightened up. Instead of going to the bar, he went towards the kitchen... meaning he poured the drink that was in the dirty cup into another cup instead of making an entirely new drink in a fresh cup. After this experience, I do a full 360 of my cup every time I order at any restaurant. read more

I was there on a Saturday night when it was very crowded. I ordered a drink, dinner and dessert and all three items came out very quick. Burger was cooked the way I wanted it. Dessert was out within 5 minutes. The prices are a little high but I think all restaurants have jacked up prices in recent years. The waitress came by at least 10 times to check on my friends and I. I think the only issue is some tables were booked in advanced but one wasn't told that any table not reversed was fair game (or my friends who got there before me didn't ask the host stand). I will say that making a reservation is a good idea for a Friday/Saturday night. read more

As a Restaurant Manager for over 5 years, I cannot recommend this restaurant, solely for customer service. Last night we came for dinner. Our server had a lack of attention to detail, initially bringing us more soft drinks than ordered, and then missing an entire meal for our guest (the reason we were out). As a previous manager, I know how stressful the business can be, so went along with it until enough was enough. As soon as I had ordered a beer, it was spilled in my lap, and asked if we could get another one. We were told No. OK, not a big deal. Then we ordered our entrees, 4 of the 5 came back. My wife's broccoli was also cold, but we chose not to complain (mistake). We had to reorder the 5th meal (Oysters). The bar tender (with the orange shirt) then brought us a glass with (1/3 of it filled) with beer and was told "Sorry, I cannot replace your beer. The owner is very cheap, he counts his pennies". At this point, the server could see our frustration and overheard that we would be tipping less than we normally would have. Upon leaving, we had to walk into the restaurant and ask for our bill (the final straw). The server came back saying "You don't need to tip me, the tip is the service charge" which was 22% aka $38.00 for TERRIBLE customer service. The cited reasons that we were 6 diners. We were 5 "diners" and 1 infant that sat and did not eat. The finalized bill was 5 entrees (not 6) and 2 appetizers with 1 soft drink and 1 beer. Interestingly, our server (in the blue shirt) also specifically said that service fees ARE his tips (1st hand information). Our next call is to the IRS to make sure they are also aware that this restaurant utilizes that gratuity option, something disadvantageous to restaurants because of VA tax laws. Based on the cheapness of the owner expressed by the bar tender, I can't help but come to the conclusion this restaurant is likely cheap all around. This is my first, and hopefully last, negative review of a company. Unfortunately, this place is a big no. read more

This is a favorite spot when we want to dine outside. The upstairs seating area is great. Between all of the dishes we've had I think the only one we weren't happy with was the fish sandwich. We haven't had the crab cake sandwich at a waiter's recommendation, which we appreciate staff that steer you toward a good meal. The food is OK, my first time so the people I was with recommended the Cuban, it was actually a sandwich, not a hoagie but OK. I also ordered the crab balls, they were very good. Tender, tasty and flavorful. I would go back, just for more of those. This place sits right on the water over looking the marina on the Occoquan river. There are two decks, an upper and lower and they also have inside dining. It's very casual and they have a nice big bar. Several large HD Plasmas. It has an island Tiki bar kind of feel to. There's a band stand on the lower deck. It was busy on a Thursday evening, happy hour from 4p to 7. I suspect parking could be a challenge on a Fri or Sat evening in prime time. The theme is the Electric Palm because they have wired & lighted several steel sculptures scattered around, check out my pics. The service is OK, they were busy and our server was hustling but she managed to make regular visits and as we were leaving there was a guy that cleaned the table off pretty quick. It would be a nice place to hang out with a group of people when the weather is nice and you can sit outside and listen to a band. I suspect you will hear a lot of Skynyrd and ZZ Top. read more

Went here for Father's day and the whole family was disappointed. Staff were friendly but food quality and cleanliness (or lack thereof) was 0/10. Many of the plates for the buffet were extremely dirty, food was spilled all over the buffet table, and the balcony was tarped for the rain and they literally used blue ducked tape to attach them. It felt like we were in a construction zone. Also, they had Mustard that was expired for over a year. The waitress tried to tell us that it was ok to eat? Like what?! They added a 22 percent gratuity to our bill. In total they wanted us to pay 245 dollars. The food was AWFUL the waitress was clueless. I don't even think Gordon Ramsay himself could save that place. This is a great place to see bands downstairs in the tiki bar. Unfortunately, the reassurance manager upstairs is an absolute sheister with no morals or ethics. Their menu clearly had a price stated for a meal and they charged me more and refused to honor the price on their menu. we were an older group and we're offered the written for their incompetence or lack of attention to detail in maintaining their menus. But, even better we decided to have a private party there to celebrate our anniversary and it was exceptional. Cody did a great job working with us to ensure that we had enough food for our guests and the bartenders were exceptional, especially Greg.
