As we (my husband and kids) were driving to our hotel - we passed this cute yellow storefront and couldn't believe it was a bookstore! So we quickly checked-in our hotel, unpacked and went straight to the store. Upon entering we were immediately greeted by a young lady who quickly directed us to where we needed to be. However, the frosting on the cake was the most welcoming, super knowledgeable and ecstatic owner! Elizabeth! What a treat! My daughter who is 14 and a total bookworm met her soul sister! They engaged in a conversation ... and 1.5hrs later, 5 books and a list of places we should visit while in town... we were ready for our VERMONT TRIP! BEST VISIT EVER! Ollie's is a liquidation center where you can find all kinds of brand name items for less. When you first walk, you'll notice a large selection of books and toys. There's also lots of food and household items, some clothes, beauty products, decorations, bedding, electronics, hardware, etc. I found some lovely Yankee Candle large signature candles for $7.99 when they are normally sold full price at $30 at the Yankee store. Things to take note - not everything is a great deal, if you shop at Costco or Sam's Club you may notice similar or cheaper prices there - for example, Kcup coffee pods - not so cheap at Ollie's. In terms of clothing, there's a limited selection, many outdated styles by today's standards. I saw a bunch of genuine leather jackets which looked like they were from the 90's or early 2000s, sold at very low prices (under $20). There are tons of large carpets and rugs on display, ideal if you need to redecorate, also great selection of bathroom towels and matts. It's the kind of place you need to check back often as the stock varies greatly.

They sell gently used books and it's always nice to see what new and old books! They have amazing books for $6-12 dollars that are typically brand new hard and paperback books! They also have an amazing program where you can bring your old gently used books and then use that for future purposes for more new books or cool events! I've brought in my old books and have been able to buy new Harry potter hardback books! I'm so happy we have this amazing local bookstore. I love bookstores, and worry that e-books may make them vanish. If you're looking for new books, along with some Inspector Gamache goodies, like mugs, totes, and shirts, this is a fine spot for you. I'm fonder of used bookstores, and was kind of expecting that (solely based on my imagination and the articles talking about the inspiration for the literary bookstore), so perhaps I didn't do the place justice. The owner works hard to curate books from every genre, staying on top of current best sellers, while also offering a great section of local Vermont authors (of both fiction and nonfiction) , games, cookbooks, stationary. There is something for everyone's tastes and preferences. The owner and employees are all very friendly and knowledgeable. They'll gladly order what you'd like if you can't find it in stock. She often hosts events, so follow their Facebook page to learn more. Prices are reasonable and it's always hard to walk out with "just one more book." The store is located next to a lovely coffee shop: perfect combination for a new book to take with you as you sip and dine. It's an old brick farmhouse where the woman who owns the place, a long-time local, has collected books for decades and converted all the rooms on the first floor into a shop. Feel free to chat with her in the kitchen as she's very friendly and interesting. The selection of books is extensive and well-organized. It is jam packed with good stuff so plan on spending a while. She is only open for a 3 hour slot from 2-5pm Tues-Sat so you have to plan ahead. I used to go in there as a little kid and never get sick of going back when I am visiting Vermont. It feels like a remnant of an era since lost--pure Vermont. She also has a decent Vermont history section if interested.
