I just ordered from here again, and it was good as always. I've never been into the restaurant, I always order delivery through Uber Eats. They only offer Uber eats and "postmates", they are not on DoorDash, GrubHub, or any of the others. They have a very large menu, but for me, it's empanadas, and that''s it. That's the name of the place, right? All of their empanadas are fantastic, they offer both savory and sweet (Dessert) empanadas. On all of their empanadas, their shells are firm, but not hard, and the shells and fillings are absolutely tasty. Some of my favorite empanadas are the corn beef empanada (beef in a corn shell,) the chicken fajita empanada, the Greek empanada (spinach, feta and mozzarella,) Mami's empanada, (ground beef, eggs, and rice,) and the Biagra (crab and shrimp) empanada. The crab and shrimp are rich and savory. There are so many I like, but these are my favorite. They are all good sized, and they are all delicious. When you order to go, each empanada is in a separate mini bag, and it says on the outside which empanada is in that bag. They do offer three different kind of sauces to go with the empanada. The green sauce is a jalapeño sauce, and the red sauce is what they call a "Louisiana sauce." I don't really care for either one. I do love their "pink sauce." the pink sauce is ketchup and mayonnaise, and it has a creamy flavor. I'm from back west, and back there, we call it "fry sauce." They have a good number of dessert empanadas too, but my two favorite are the guava and cheese empanada, the creamy cheese plays off of the sweetness of the guava so well, and the USA empanada. I was passing by and decided to get some Empanadas. It was quiet on a Sunday afternoon. Couldn't decide what I wanted so I ended up getting cheese, beef, chicken, and chorizo. This spot is located right off the highway so it's fairly easy to get to. The store is really clean and has a variety of empanada flavors to choose from, including both savory and sweet. Our server was very nice and our order was prepared quickly. It's takeout only so there's no seating. We ordered a mix of corn flour empanadas (chicken and chorizo) and wheat flour empanadas (spicy chicken, Cuban, chicharron, pork, chicken parmigian, and chicken bacon ranch). The chicken and chorizo corn flour empanadas were decent, although the chicken could have used a bit more flavor. Of all the wheat flour empanadas, the spicy chicken was the best and most seasoned. The pork was the next decent one although it could have used more seasoning. I was not a fan of the Cuban, which was too cheesy and overwhelming. The chicharron was a bit too much as it had peas and rice as well. I was not a fan of the chicken bacon ranch or chicken parmigian and found the flavors overwhelming. Overall, the empanadas were underwhelming and, while the flavors were interesting, they failed to deliver tastewise. I probably won't be back and recommend checking out another spot if you're craving empanadas. read more

There are a variety of fillings but my favorites are the fajita chicken and the crab and shrimp. The green sauce is a little spicy but tasty with the empanadas. As the name implies, if you are in the mood for empanadas, this is THE SPOT!! I got the beef, chicken and chili and beef empanadas. They smelled so good that I ate the chicken before I could take a pic. All of them were very good with a lot of filling. The chili and beef does have a kick so don't say I did not warn you. We also got two dessert empanadas, the caramel and cheese, and the USA. Of the two, I would highly recommend the caramel and cheese; the sweet and salty combo hits the spot! I am obsessed. They are delicious empanadas. I love the Greek, cheesesteak and chicken fajita. They do not skimp with the fillings. My husband loves the corn beef empanadas with the green sauce which has a nice kick. I love the pink sauce. We usually get them delivered and they travel well. I had just donated blood and was craving protein and iron, I decided to order a beef empanada and I was not disappointed. I consider myself to be a reasonable person, so if someone can explain this to me please do so. We've gone to this place since their grand opening and no complaints until tonight. The food and service are typically 5 stars. Tonight was the first night there has ever been an error. You can see I'm not an active Yelper, so normally would not complain over a first mistake. We went to bite into our "guava and cheese" empanadas to immediately realize something was wrong. Even though there was powdered sugar on the outside, the inside was pizza. I called right away, spoke with the same worker who originally took my order, and she was so nice about it. She said she'd tell the cook to make the correct two guava and cheese empanadas so they'd be ready when I arrived. I get there in less than 10 minutes and she asks, "Did you bring the others?" I was so confused. I kept repeating her. Long story short, she literally wanted me to return the incorrect empanadas before she gave me the correct ones. I was like you want to drive back home to get the empanadas we bit into to return them to you in order to correct the mistake your worker made? Yup! I said I was happy to get my son to take a photo to send to my phone as proof, but she was like fine I'll just give them to you. I asked her why she didn't tell me to bring the wrong ones when we were on the phone and what she would do with the old empanadas and she said throw them out. So even though they made the mistake, they wouldn't even let me enjoy the wrong ones if I wanted to. (And I would not anyway--it was pizza filling with powdered sugar lol.) Either that or she didn't believe me which irks me or wanted to use my wrong empanadas to get the cook in trouble. Who knows but super weird. So I've attached to the photo the worker so desperately wanted to see so they will feel vindicated that I didn't try to steal $6 from them by claiming I got two wrong empanadas. Hope that helps. Places that are dedicated solely to empanadas are few and far in between when you're looking in Eastern Queens. The Empanada Spot aims to fill that void in a busy area of Oakland Gardens on Springfield Blvd. and I'm really glad they're around. Springfield has a lot of Asian fare but this is the sole Latin eatery and its a welcome addition to the area. The place is almost exclusively take out and serves an insane amount of both corn and wheat empanadas ranging from beef, pork, chicken, guava cheese, ham and cheese, its almost overwhelming. They also have traditional plates for those that are seeking a full meal rather than a snack. We ordered a good amount to try - beef (very juicy and flavorful), pernil (porky goodness), chicken (flavorful but a tad dry - all chicken empanadas are this way I feel), the mami (rice and beef - pretty good) and the guava cheese (yummy but a bit messy). All were piping hot and made fresh so there was a bit of a wait. The empanadas were fried but not at all greasy. Flavors were on point and they had a lot of filling. Wrapper was light and really just a vessel to hold the fillings. Prices here are pretty good and you definitely get your money's worth here. Staff is really friendly and welcoming. The green sauce(jalapeño) definitely packs a punch but it adds a nice kick to a plainer empanada like the pizza one but as someone that doesn't love a ton of spice a little goes a very long way. So you're telling me it takes 40 minutes to make 4 empanadas AND a chorizo?? Not even empanada places in corona take 40 minutes and I'm sure they're at least 3x busier than this place. This place is equally the same as Mama's Empanadas. It is their sister store I believe. The parking here is wack but it's good to call for takeout in advanced. I've always moved mamas empanadas which is why I have been super excited to come here and try it without the hassle of driving to Jackson Heights or Corona. I ordered a variety of wheat empanadas. The beef were tasty as always. The Pernil was alright. The Polish has kielbasa and sauerkraut. Which is great for polish/German food lovers. The Greek was tasty! As was the spinach and cheese. Been watching and waiting for this to open up and it finally did today! I went in around 9pm and place had a short line. Looking at the menu, looks like they offer more than empanadas! You can get other items like chicken wings, french fries, tostones, maduros, tamales and I think arepas. They also have breakfast and salads. Each empanada is less than $2.00 and they even have combos. I tried the ground beef corn flour empanada and it was surprisingly moist. The only thing I did not dig was it had peas in the filling. The spicy green sauce was also very tasty. I also brought the Sweet plantain & cheese empanada and guava and cheese empanada. The Sweet plantain and cheese empanda was disappointing. Not enough cheese and the plantain was very starchy. The empanada was very dry..I would skip this next time. The guava and cheese was very good. the cheese was not over powering and it had a good amount of guava in it. They even dust the outside with powder sugar. Overall I would come back and try other items. This place is not as good as Empanada Cafe in Corona but it is a lot closer to my house.
