Business such as this are now rarities. I brought in a very old backpack blower and they were able to revive it from its continual bogging. They also recommended a much newer model and would have given me a military discount. They not only service all sorts of equipment and machinery, they have a good selection of such equipment available for purchase, readily displayed during each season. If it's Spring, you'll see plenty of mowers, trimmers, etc. Winter is coming!?!? Snowblowers and generators a plenty. I did finally cave after a year and brought in that old backpack blower for a newer model, and glad I did. They not only gave me a great price, but I was able to "trade-in" that old blower for a new one. Awesome! read more

The main guy seems friendly and knowledgeable/ helpful. He did explain things quite well. Only complaint is that the waiting time can be too long. We visited once on a weekend and there were a number of people in front of us. There was only one person serving all of those customers. If I'm not in a rush and/or if I need more thorough help, I'll definitely return. P.s. there are maybe 2-3 parking spots right in front of the store. 5/21/21 Called ET Petersen today regarding Kirbey Vacumm repair. Spoke to man with British/Scottish accent. When I started to explain the problem, he cut me off and said, "...we aren't going to have any parts for this thing'. I know that there is nothing wrong with the vacumm except that I put it back together incorrectly the last time I used it. Since I am now in my 70s I though I would have it done professionally and get a cleaning at the same time. All parts are there with the machine. I then got out the manual and fixed it myself!!! He was very condescending and cut me off without allowing me to finish my request. When will 'men' learn that woman run their households and do know what they are talking about. Hi yelpers! I was in need of a canister vacuum. I started googling and the brand Miele (I learned it is pronounced meeeela) kept popping up (along with dyson). I tried their corporate website and they have 20,000 different types of canister vacuums. There is no way to compare them at all. There is a selector tool, but it suggests vacuums that range in price from $400-$1500. Hmmmm...how am I to know which to choose? I don't want to waste $400 for a vacuum that won't cut the mustard, and I certainly am not paying $1500 for a Cadillac canister. What about the ones in between!?! So I continue googling and I come across Mr. Keith Petersen's videos. Ahhhhh, finally someone who knows what he's talking about! First thing I do is drop the dyson off my list. After Mr. Keith's videos, there is no way I'm buying anything other than a hepa filtered bagged vacuum. Dear Dyson, you can keep your bagless vacuums and the smut, dirt, pile, etc they will release out around the house when I empty the chamber. Yuck. Next, I try to find a Miele dealer near me. I was determined to support local, but alas, they all have terrible reviews (thanks yelpers!) from mostly customer service complaints. Dear business owners, take notice! Customer service is key! Finally, I decide to check out the man on the video's reviews. Yep, great reviews here on yelp including some from out of towners like myself. So, I call in to ET Petersen the next morning, talk to Keith, and ask my questions. Bada bing, bada boom. We were done in about 15 min, and my vacuum arrived the next day. Can't beat that customer service! On the call, he explained a lot of info to me, provided me with several choices at different price points, I asked all my questions, AND they took my info to ship the vacuum. It was a smooth process. Of note, I did wait on the phone for a few minutes before Keith came to the line. Based on the previous reviews I was expecting a wait. I wouldn't let that deter you. It's a local business. Have something to do to occupy you for the 5 or so minute wait. The total call took 22 minutes. In my book, that is not bad. It's definitely better than taking chances and buying the wrong vacuum on Amazon or from a diff local shop with terrible customer service. read more

In my research to find an excellent vacuum, I stumbled upon ET Petersen's YouTube channel. Keith's videos were extremely informative and steered me towards the Miele brand. After further research, I had a few questions, so I called the store and was surprised to have Keith answer them! When I finally decided to purchase my new Miele vacuum, I made the trip to New Jersey (even though Keith offered to ship the vacuum to me for free) to test out the options. Keith even let our dog into the store so my partner could try out the different models vacuums. There was zero pressure to buy a model that was out of our price range and Keith knew every last detail about the many different models they carried. I was impressed by the service offered at this store and it made me sad that more places like ET Petersen don't exist anymore. When was the last time an employee of a big box store/online retailer gave valuable advice? I would recommend ET Petersen 100% and look forward to giving them my business in the future. BEWARE!! ET Petersen of Westfield My first mistake was, I didn't get paperwork or copy the serial number when I brought my Honda lawnmower in for service. I also didn't fill out the registration form when I bought it. I brought my lawnmower to ET Petersen in Westfield on April 2nd. I went in and gave my information and the owner then came out to my truck and helped unload it. He wrote the serial number on a piece of scrap paper and wheeled it away. When I asked if he needed anything else, he said no we will check it out and call when it's ready. I never received a call letting me know what the noise issue was, that I brought it in for or what the repair cost would be. 4 weeks later, after I called a couple times and stopped in person, I was told a part just came in and they are working on it and it might be done later that day or Monday. I received a call on Tuesday saying the lawn mower was ready for pick-up. When I got it home, I discovered it wasn't the lawn mower I dropped off. There were too many discrepancies with this unit. 1) the Smart Drive Control was wrapped with black electrical tape, and the Multi-Position adjuster was a slide switch (Mine was a thumb wheel) 2) The blade control lever's cable was loose and didn't engage until it was an inch from the handlebar. (mine would engage right from the start of pulling it). 3) The Red engine cover was faded (mine was bright red and had a cracked vent rib on the recoil cover), this one did not have a cracked rib. 4) The Blade had a lot of chips and nicks, (I had just put a new blade on last year and I have a pristine lawn and don't have rocks that I run over). 5) The spring on the Discharge Guard is weak and doesn't hold the bag closed tightly so the grass blows out the sides. (I never had that problem) When I confronted the owner, Keith He told me there was no way this wasn't my lawnmower. The paperwork couldn't have been mixed up. He called me to tell me he did an investigation on it and there was only one mower that came in two weeks after mine, and there was no way the paperwork would have been switched or mixed up. When I asked him to explain the discrepancies I found, he said he couldn't. Then he told me "Don't agonize over this, it's only a lawnmower and I'm sure in time you will realize this is your lawnmower " REALLY!! I used my mower once a week, 8 months out of the year for the past 6-8 years. I guess you think people are that stupid.? What an insult to my intelligence. read more

Trying to find a part for my Honda generator so I called The Eardley T. Petersen Co. Guy says he is with a customer and asks me to call back in 20 minutes. I understand it is a small business and call back later. Guys tells me to hold a minute which turns into ten minutes before I decide to hang up. I can't believe a place which offers poor service can survive in Westfield. Go elsewhere. read more

I brought my Bissell vacuum in for a tune up. It had been a couple of years. Very simple check in and promised it would be ready in a couple of days. They sent me an email advising it was ready when promised. I picked it up and it looked brand new. I used it the other day and the suction was better than ever. Very reasonable price for the tune up and they didn't push me to buy other products or install new parts. I've brought other yard equipment to them over the years for service and never had a problem. They are very experienced and easy to deal with. read more

Great service. The owner will sit with you and explain everything you need to know. Stands behind what he sells. I bought my leaf blower and snow blower here. He talked me out if buying unnecessary accessories for the leaf blower, and talked me out of buying a snow blower model that far exceeded my needs. The staff is also helpful and courteous. The brought the equipment out to me, explained how to start and use it, how to winterize it and helped me get it in my car. All in al a great experience. And yes, it is a small business and you may need to wait to get service. That's because they are busy, and they're busy for a reason. read more

I purchased my Miele vacuum here and have it serviced every year. I walked in to pick it up and a female employee said "What do you need?" I was a bit shocked by this and told her I was there to pick up my vacuum. I paid, she handed me my vacuum and did not say anything else to me. Extremely rude--I will not be going back. read more

High-end, reputable products, high quality service. They care about customer service. They talked me out of buying a new vacuum in favor of repairing my existing model, which made them less money. In the long run, I will be a more satisfied customer and will keep returning. I have purchased a vacuum and a lawn mower and have been satisfied with sales and service. read more

I brought in my vacuum for repair and from the beginning I didn't have a great feeling. I was told my vacuum was a throw away, etc. that I need to buy one like they sell. Anyway, they charged me $20 to look at it and then that was suppose to be applied to my repair if I chose to do it. A week later I was called and told I needed a part they would order and then do the repair for approximately $40. Great. Two weeks after that I finally got my vacuum cleaner and was told the $40 was in addition to the $20 I already paid because they had to do a 1/2 hour labor which is $40. Really? $80 per hour labor? I called another local repair shop to inquire about labor fees and they told me that was outragious. Needless to say I will not be going back to Eardly T. Peterson, I will drive a bit farther to get a fair price. Disappointing as I like to frequent local shops. read more
