This restaurant doesn't really need me to write a good review for them as they are doing just fine as it is, but because I liked them so much, I figured I would just give them another boost. We drove down from the cities and ate here for the very first time. The place was packed, but they managed to get us seated less than 15 minutes. We ordered the Czek breakfast and it was awesome. The service was great, the place was super clean and it was reasonably priced. The owners do the cooking in the back and everything is made from scratch. The male hostess who seated us, cheerily told us that it would be close to 40 minutes before our breakfast would come out. I thought it was nice that they told people that, that makes the time go faster, but it was less than 40 minutes and the breakfast was great. Wanted to like this place....was here once before and left with a sour taste after having some pretty decent food for breakfast...the owner is not friendly at all...a had a little issue with something and all she wanted to do was argue...I went in today and she was the same way so we walked out without eating...I will bring my business to places that have friendly service...they may very well have good food but I will never find that out....to me friendly service is half the dining experience....sometimes place can get buy with unfriendly borderline rude owners if they have a product that people will overlook that for...I didn't remember it as a place I was willing to do that for...buh-bye I won't be back again... Update...pretty much same as before. Super high priced breakfast $15 with coffee! Wanted to charge me $2.50 more for a cup of coffee to go after already spending $2 for very average watered down coffee...fakey friendly owner... the only thing that was better than average was the sausage links! $20 for breakfast in New Prague good luck with that! 3 strikes and they are out!! read more

Great home cooking! I cannot say enough about this place! I just started working in the area and found this hidden gem. If you're a coffee snob, you will be pleasantly surprised by their lattes. The food is fresh and actually made from scratch. I had the pancakes and steel cut Oates oh and a butter beer latte that was perfect. This Cafe was recently purchased by the Ettlins and re-opened about a month ago. It's a great place, very clean, bright with Excellent food and service! It is only open right now for Breakfast and Lunch on Tuesday through Sundays from 6am to 2:pm. We had a number of the breakfast selections in our party this morning and everything was great! You don't have to choose between service and quality food when coming to Ettlins. The recently remodeled dining areas are bright and clean. I have been a weekly visitor (usually more than once a week) since I moved to NP a couple years ago. I'm typically a weekend visitor because their breakfast is unbeatable. Homemade kolackys, pancakes made with pure honey, thick cut bacon, and a breakfast sandwich that, honestly, should be shared, all make Ettlins a favorite. Wednesday's lunch special is a beef commercial... I recommend taking the day off to experience it. The dinner service offers made to order green beans with slivered almonds, homemade bread, house made tartar sauce, and cheesecake that is big enough to be a meal. After an arduous morning of apple picking at Sweetland Orchard, I was just famished. Luckily, the good folks at Sweetland pointed us toward nearby Ettlins. I loved this place. Nothing fancy, just good Czech and American food and nice people. My veggie omelet was delicious, made with quality ingredients and large enough for leftovers. Others at the table ordered some Czech fare which was equally scrumptious. The draft Pilsner Urquell was a bonus, and reminded my of our recent vacation to central Europe. Delicious breakfast of 1) cheese omelet and 2) peanut butter and banana French toast. We're also coffee snobs and this coffee is good, even in this cafeteria-type setting! The Angry Rooster omelette is a spicy-food-lover's dream...not the kind of heat you'd expect in southern Minnesota, hotter than anything in the city, I believe. Found this little gem on Yelp...so happy we did and can't wait to go back! Went for breakfast because I saw they had scotch eggs on their menu....which I am obsessed with...Delicious! My hubby got the Czech Breakfast which he so generously shared. Our first time trying jitrnice (Czech sausage) and Kolacky...also delicious! Not to mention the scrumptious dumplings with gravy, French fruit and buttermilk pancakes. We left there with a full "to-go" box since their portions are so great and our eyes were bigger than our stomaches. Friendly staff and easy to reach location. A cute and quaint mid sized cafe. I got a plain ol chicken sandwich with fries but the quality was great. A tasty brioche bun with a perfect grilled chicken breast made it pretty worthwhile. The potato pancakes that my friend got was baller. Pleasant service that made you feel like you live in town. Authentic Czech food on the menu sounded good and would definitely come back and try them. read more

Ettlin's Cafe is a good place if you are not in a rush. The wait time was a little to long but the food was worth waiting for. I would suggest the from the hen portion of the menu but I would also suggest the pancakes as well. I was very surprised when I went to Ettlin's Cafe. The outside is very old and wasn't very intriguing but It was very cheap and very good. I got 2 big pieces of french toast and a sausage patty for only $6. I got my food in about 5-10 minutes too. The service was a little shaky but part of the reason was cause I was with my friends so it was 6 16 year olds so it's understandable. I would definitely recommend it though! read more

We went on a Thursday for the luncheon special-pork, dumplings and sauerkraut. Must be at least 18 months since we'd been there for the special. The trip to New Prague from Anoka takes about 90 minutes, but we didn't care as the day was nice and we were looking forward to our meal. Unfortunately the meal left much to be desired. Had to cut the dumplings with a knife and they had no flavor. The sauerkraut wasn't sauerkraut. The pork was satisfactory. But what a disappointment. We won't be making that trip again! read more

I stopped here for breakfast. Wonderful buttermilk pancakes!! Had the traditional vermocka (don't recall the spelling) soup but it lacked flavor. I was asked by the waitress if she should go and get vinegar for it and I said no before giving it a try. I think it would have been a good idea. There was no taste of dill which surprised me. I have been to this place on two occasions both times were a disappointment. I went on a fish Friday during lent for my first time now I expected it to be busy but it took over an hour to get my food. I ordered shrimp and it was not cooked. My batter was still goo on the inside. I went another time for breakfast cause I thought it sounded like it would be so good. We got there and waited 10 minutes to be seated. (No big deal) then we ordered coffee. The coffee was out so we had to wait for a new brew.(again no big deal) I watched as two other tables seated after us had gotten there coffee so I had to ask for mine. I then waited again for about and hour for my food to come out. I watched as two tables seated after me received their food. The food was ok nothing to great. My hash browns were barely cooked my daughters bacon was not cooked all the way. Needless to say I will never be going back to eat here ever again. I also would not recommend it to anyone. Seems like if you know the people you get great service.. if you don't know them you are an outsider who they could care less about your service. read more

The reuben sandwich was ok. The meat was not as tender as it should have been. The potato soup special was very different and very good. I had the benini. Once again the meat was tough.
