This place is adorable. You'll feel like you've stepped back in time when you walk into this place. Such cozy vibes. Couches to sit on, comfy chairs, warm lighting...feels so homey. Plus, the coffee is very affordable and also super delicious. I came a bit later in the day, so they were low on baked goods but I managed to snag an oatmeal raisin cookie. It was delicious. Chewy, thick, flavorful. Muah! Chef's kiss. As for coffee, I got an iced latte. Also very good, a bit on the bitter side but adding honey to it helped. I worked remotely here for several hours, and had no issue with the wifi or with finding a plug. It also stayed pretty quiet in the space, which made me feel more comfortable making calls and answering them. Some cafes can be soooo loud, which is good for some things (but not so much for working). I'll definitely be coming back to work here again soon! read more

I had some time to kill in Northfield. This cute entrance caught my eye and I went inside. It's a little claustrophobic inside with outdated decor but I'm glad I came in - the coffee is outstanding! I love local coffee shops with eclectic vibes and attitude - and GBBM delivers in spades but they also need to serve tasty coffee with desirable snack options. Again, they deliver. I had my typical quad shot mocha with alternative milk (oat, this time) and was pleased as always. No food this time, but there were tasty looking cookie and bagel options ready for the taking. A personal favorite whenever I'm in the area and worth the stop if your looking for something less mainstream or franchised. read more

I ordered a large strawberry matcha and an Asiago bagel. Both items came out very quick despite the coffee shop being busy, and it was delicious. My total came out to be $10 which is pretty average for the price of coffee. The shop is very urban and rustic, there are many tables so it would make a nice study spot. Very chill coffee shop right off the Main Street of Northfield. I keep forgetting Northfield is a college town, but one step into this place and you are reminded. Kitschy decor, amateur art, mismatched chairs, hipster baristas, they have it all. Their coffee looks to be roasted and packed on site so it is very fresh and very good. I just tried their black coffee but it was very good. I will definitely be back to chill and get some caffeine when I'm back in the area. read more

Now, I love - and I mean LOVE - a good local coffee shop, but unfortunately Blue Monday just never delivers. Their coffee is good, but that's the only thing preventing this from being a one star review. The staff seems like they hate it there. I've never experienced more cold, downright disdainful service. The seating is crowded and just not well thought out. And it feels like they got all their chairs and tables at a bad garage sale. Overall, not much I can recommend here. I'd love to see this place get an interior makeover (and a leadership one), because it's falling short of its potential. read more

I have a policy of trying to never use cliches or hackneyed phrases in my reviews. In this case I'll have to use a Yelper's stand by. I really wanted to like to this place. The clever name, the pre 2K ambience. I could only think of the grunge rock days, Rev 105. There is a cool sort of vibe inside and the large board menus. I needed a few seconds to scan across and could not see any food items except pastry. The anxious barista was rocking on his heels because I took about 7 seconds to scan and I asked if they have sandwiches. He looked like it was dumb question and clearly gave me a no. Settling for brewed dark roast and raspberry scone I made a short small talk comment about their efficient looking lay out, no smile, no comment back, just face grunt. Settling back on an extra soft couch I found the scone moist albeit smaller than what I found elsewhere but a good tasty lift. The roast was just ok, certainly hot enough and fresh enough but just a bit bitter and acidic for my taste. Now we visit the restroom. See Dean Rs review which sums up the condition. The only place I saw worse was a gas station convenience store outside Tulsa. Bring along gloves or tissues to open the door or to touch anything. There is a Koala changing station but I can't imagine bringing a baby to that room. read more

A solid option for coffee in Northfield. Service is quick, the coffee menu is straightforward. I have yet to explore their variety of tea, but if you are the tea connoisseur always disappointed in average coffee shops, this is the place for you, I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for. This is also the place if you want to buy coffee beans to take with you. They can grind them to your desired brew method, and have a wide selection. Atmosphere: personally I can't get work done here, I find it to be more of a social coffee shop. That being said there are plenty of college students who do study there. There is a variety of seating, but it is generally small and practically always busy, so odds are you'll be sitting next to someone. There is plenty to look at with the variety of interior decorations. This is a good option downtown, stop in for a coffee or tea to walk with, and maybe a scone or pastry. read more

This may become a semi-frequent stop for me if my daughter ends up as a member of the St. Olaf College elite choir some day, one of the finest in the U.S. But we have another few months before that decision gets made and we're here just for the pick-up at the music camp. Meanwhile, thank God you can get a decent cup of joe in this town. I wasn't sure. Northfield, in spite of having two well known private, expensive (cha-ching) colleges in town is still a small berg. What passes for great caffeine isn't a given. First, I adore this place. Funky, homey, mismatched tables and furniture in a fairly large space that is absolutely hopping on a Saturday morning. Wacky wall art, comfy chairs, it's a college kid's dream place to study. But this morning it's populated mostly by small groups of bikers, walkers and coffee klatches. The house dark roast is one of better I've had in the past 30 days. If everyone could do a dark roast this good, they would. We got one to go, we came back later for another. As good as it was though, my second drink, a latte that normally comes with one shot (should have two based on size) was sub-par in flavor and not even an attempt to creatively design the milk. OK, I can live without the latter, but taste, can't do that. When you simply dump the milk in, there's a difference. When the espresso is bitter it's probably been overpacked. There's more to an espresso drink with milk than slamming it through the steam and heat. It's an art. Message is, don't come here looking for an artfully crafted espresso drink you might expect in the best shops up the road in Minneapolis/St. Paul. The baked goods are superb. The creme cheese croissant and the rhubarb muffin both drool worthy. Sure love to see them take their espresso drinks to the next level. With the kind of business they're running in and out the door and customers coming from all over the country due to the two elite schools in town it's a surprise this side of their business is being ignored. Oh, and it's 2014. Not taking credit cards might be convenient for the business, but it's a pain for your customers. read more

I wanted to like this shop. I love supporting local business and the shop has a cute interior vibe, with lots of variety on the menu. However, after my interaction with a young man working there, I will not be back. After ordering a light roast, I politely asked where they source their beans from. As a coffee connosieur and barista, I believe this is a fairly basic question - to know whether they are roasted in house or what roastery they are from. The young man proceeded to say that he has no idea, and he is not going to ask because knowing that information is "above his pay grade." I don't know what you're paying your employees but I hope its not as low as not knowing a basic fact, and not being willing to ask about it. read more

This is one of the best college coffee houses ever. Here is why: 1. They have excellent coffee and excellent baked goods. It is difficult to find that combo. 2. They serve lactose free milk. That is extremely difficult to come by. The only two things that would make me like it even more: 1. if they took credit cards 2. if there were less people so I could get a table. Blue Monday carries some of the strongest brewed coffees in town for whatever reason you might need it for. The service is always quick and efficient at any time of day. The baked goods are best before 9am and don't forget to relish in the local artwork canvassed on the different walls of the shop. Since NoFo is such a college town, Blue Monday has a very collegey atmosphere - professors and students alike can be found here from morning to night. The music is great!! I have been introduced to so many neat bands here! Tables are large for doing homework, and there are comfy chairs and couches for socializing. The internet is also free and very good. You can also buy coffee beans and tea leaves here! The only downsides: -you have to pay in cash -it tends to get crowded (especially Saturday and Sunday mornings) Blue Monday will also be a very special place to me - I couldn't have gotten through final exams and paper writing without a good cup of Blue Monday's coffee! read more

It's a great venue - perfect place to settle down for a coffee and snack to relax, read or study. But what's up with the self-service tea and flimsy netting of a bag that was provided with a point to the loose tea and an explanation that "it's easy"? Who's ready for something that DIY when in desperate need of caffeine... my girlfriend's tea was loose and floating all around my cup in a matter of seconds. We had to jury-rig a makeshift straining system out of an extra paper cup to make it relatively drinkable. read more

Blue Monday's was one of my favorite places to go to help me relax and not be homesick. I'm torn on Monday's. On the one hand, it was an incredibly important part of my college experience and a lot of my disposable income at the time was spent on their lattes. They were great lattes. I love that, even a decade after leaving Northfield, I can spend half an hour here and see at least one person who remembers me. On the other hand? Well, as one of my college friends commented - the place is decorated with the leftovers from the saddest garage sale ever. Yes, it's one of those nostalgia-tinged places for thousands of Carls and Oles, but would it kill them to replace some chairs, maybe even a table? They've cleverly made the crummy, unbalanced, unmatched decor to their 'vibe,' but it's still a bit annoying when you're paying 5$ for a cup of fair trade coffee. Mondays, I will darken your door again, but you might want to rethink the whole 90s grunge thing. read more

Good, but not great. I was glad with the coconut milk latte that I ordered- it was full of flavor and enough to satisfy! The staff here at Blue Mondays was kind, I think what I wasn't in love with was the atmosphere. It's definitely more of a small town coffee shop, which is great! It just didn't really fit the bill for myself. I would've probably given this place a four (or three and a half if possible) if I hadn't gone into the bathroom... It was pretty gross, with stains next to the sink and some inappropriate things written on the door. So you can definitely get a cup of coffee here, but much more is pushing it. read more

I love this coffee shop as it's a part of the Northfield culture, and has been for so many years. I've previously given it 5 stars, but as much as they are great, they can do better. They only accept cash and should update their point of sale system to accept cards. I also used to love the jovial attitude of the owners, but I now see the owner only coming around to clean tables and not to get to know customers, smile, or have conversations. But the coffee can't be beat. The monster truck brownies are amazing, and it's a great place for conversations. I don't like that they now close at 9pm (I remember when they closed well after Midnight). They are great, don't get me wrong, but they need some updates, and they need to get back to the high-touch business I remember them being. Make your customers LOVE you..not just like you. read more

I came here to pick up some coffee beans since they have a great selection of fair trade and organic options. Since I was there I obviously needed to get a latte. I got a small soy latte and an iced mocha to go for a friend. I didn't realize how small the smalls actually are and that they charge 75 cents for soy milk, but when you can't have dairy you're a slave to the upcharge. The vibe is really cool and it seems like a great place to study, but always seems to be busy so I can imagine it's hard to get a seat. I conveniently forgot that it's cash or check only, but luckily had some cash on me. This is a great local spot to grab coffee and I will definitely be back! read more

A duo of not-unfriendly baristi patched together my request for butter, and on a second try, a butter knife.
