The train is okay, I usually do not get to ride the F Train, but took it from Bensonhurst to Church Avenue to get the G Train one evening after working in the field. It is a quick ride, but with like many trains a wait. The train was well maintained and clean. read more

Darn it, Miguel! I was just thinking of being the first to post about the F Train, but you beat me by just a few days! The F Train... You are the only one around as I have no other choice unless if I walk all the way to the Q train across Ocean Parkway. You have been quite efficient for me in the morning as I always tend to get a spot from my stop. You piss me off when it's PM rush hour when I can smell my neighbor's breath hovering over me when you are super packed. Oh how it's so wonderful when you run express to my stop when you're running late! In terms of shadiness, you are OK in my book with less thugs than most other trains. read more

Where can you find a guy playing movie/television themes on his portable keyboard, someone "homeless" asking for money who then becomes upset with passengers because they didn't help out or a woman blowing up a condom, tying its end and inserting the inflated condom deep throat style into her mouth? The fabulous F train. True stories by the way. On any given day, you''ll come across a dancing group performing the most acrobatic moves seen since dance competitions on MTV, singers who would give Beyonce a run for her money and a man detailing his life's story as to why he is homeless. What I love the most about the train are the seats really. i don't like the trains where they have the elongated seats throughout each cart. I prefer the trains with the shorter seats or seats where you can sit and have a descent conversation with your girlfriend, friend, etc without feeling you're being "eavesdropped" on. LOL. The train when it decides to and I mean this in the physics sense. When you need the F train to run, the E train, G and R trains rush by every three seconds, whereas the F train will take about 15 minutes. When you don't need the F train, i swear you can count one passing by every five minutes. Thanks! It's usually "clean" but the smell can sometimes become unbearable. I'm not expecting the place to smell like Bath & Body but wow. One of my fondest memories involves the overhead announcements. On this particular day, the train was running local and without any formal heads up or slight indication to alterations, the train ended up switching to another line, meaning it went from running the usual F local line to then becoming a B train or something. We realized this after zooming by one stop after the next. After maybe ten minutes, the announcer mentions the train has been switched to the B line. Nice! Anyway, if you must take this train in the wee hours of the morning, please be safe and bring a friend. If you can't have company of any kind, please opt for other means of transportation besides MTA. It's just too dangerous and believe me, I had to take the train at those hours at times and the crazies surely do come out. Overall, this is my favorite MTA line for various reasons read more

I have no idea why, but I think of the F train as being a really "cool" and "hip" train. Like all the cool people who live in Carroll Gardens, Boerum Hill, the South Slope, etc. take it. It also stops multiple times in the Lower East Side, SoHo, and the West Village, which probably colors my perception as every time I ride it, it's packed with very stylish folks. I have nothing to say about the quality of the F train's service. Very average, workable train. So far has never really caused me any grief. read more

We were out late drinking and I have to say that riding the F home made the whole night worth it. Easy. Quick and painless. (Well, except for that strange guy at the end of the train who couldn't hold his liquor) Still, riding the F train rocked. And, when you need to get to JFK, riding the F towards Jamaica/179 then hopping the E, and then taking the AirTrain couldn't be easier. $7.50 to get to JFK?!?! In an hour and 20 min? I recently had a dreadful and shocking experience at this East Broadway train station. I was changing a metrocard that was expiring for a fresh card and wanted the money transferred over (obviously). I had over $20 on that card and I handed to the rotund woman in the booth. She did something on the computer and then handed me 2 metrocards, the new one and the old one I handed her. When I checked them, they were Both EMPTY. The woman in the booth ROBBED me. I complained to her saying "Ms, I just checked this card in front of you before I handed it to you." She was very rude and dismissive and just told me to complain to 511 - I did call 511 but nothing was done. DO NOT BUY METROCARDS FROM THE PLUMP AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMAN STATION AGENT AT EAST BROADWAY - SHE WILL STEAL YOUR METROCARD MONEY RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU. read more

Let me tell you something about my old boy, the F Train. I have used this train regularly through the years and it gets me everywhere I need to be. My uni in Kew Gardens? Check. My apartment in Jackson Heights? Check. Brunch with the ladies in UES/Midtown East? Check. Shopping downtown or Chinatown internship? Check. Art studio in Carroll Gardens? Check. I love the F because I can usually sigh a sigh of relief as most destinations I need are in a few blocks of where this train goes. It trades off with the E train with some regularity and the E Is just about as useful as the F. I cut the delays some slack because 1) they're not that bad and 2) just be a good NYer and stop acting surprised when MTA cuts service, despite having signs up all week preceding. read more

The "Fart" train. Really, because sometimes it really smells like a bag of farts. Also the "Fail" train when its super delayed and practically not running. It's still my first preference when I'm heading up to Queens because when someone (god maybe?) sprinkles that little bit of magic onto the tracks during the non-peak hours (rush hour, you can forget it) it runs SUPER quick. 20-30 minutes to and from the city. The F train on of the longest Subway rides in the MTA. It can easily take you 1 hr and 45 min to get from Coney Island to 179 St. The equipment is usually the R-160 train. It is the MTA newest subway train. Automated announcements, well lit and decently comfortable. They do occasionally have a R-46 during the rush hours. The line runs though the heart of Queens via Queens Blvd then Manhattan Sixth Ave and In Brooklyn on the Culver line. Lots of great neighborhoods to visit on the line. The issues with the F line is the on going construction throughout the entire line. They really need to make part of the F express in Brooklyn as well. Since the G runs with the F in Brooklyn to Church Ave, they should make the F express there. The homeless that ride the F are also a problem. They take up a whole section of the train car and they stink. The city and NYPD need to do a better job of doing something about the homeless. read more

F stands for "Forever" because often this train does take... That said, it is usually cleaner than most but it is also a haven for homeless people at night which makes the early morning commute nauseating at times. Likewise why do they wait until they are behind schedule to run express? Like they do on the 7 train during rush hours, why not run expresses to Manhattan in the AM and out of Manhattan in he PM and extend the G train to Kings Highway during these same times? everyone seems really negative about the F train. but they're still giving it 3 stars --- for me 3 stars is passable. so i was checking out the reviews to see if the extra star - or 2 - was due to the cute people i always see on this train. no - no one mentioned that yet - so i will. cute people, always, on this train. and i know the L is supposed to be the hot, well-dressed train, but pas t the age of 22, it's not so exciting. if the L train is personified by a 20 yr old girl all decked out like Madonna in 1983, the F train is some cool chick in a vintage sundress with a tattoo on her shoulder. it's much less "scene-ish" than the L... the F train is the L train, young, but grown up. proof that you can be employed in a 9-5, maybe even have KIDS, and still be hip. regarding its poor reviews, i guess i too have been driven to near insanity on the occasional weeknight or weekend (note to self not to venture into manhattan on the weekend) when this train decides inexplicably to change routes with the G, the world's most god-awful train... however, as a general rule, the F always comes - even if it takes a while, laden with its cargo of interesting-looking adults. read more

OK. I live in Roosevelt Island and take F train to get to Manhattan. Every Morning, the full-of-people F trains come to Roosevelt Island and half the people cannot get in the train. Also, it is delayed by 20+ minutes very often, and good luck getting on the next 3 trains if not more, which will be also full. I do not know why they cannot follow the schedule, when it says it runs every 4 minutes during rush hour. The government better spend money on such issues rather than useless craps. read more

Completely unpredictable. Half the time it seems as if there are service interruptions on the weekends. The rest of the time you could wait 15-20 mins for a train. East Broadway Station is very HOT, although it is nice that there is a cop usually down there as it can get kinda shady at times. The F train is undoubtedly the best train in all of New York City. Hear me out. Yes, it's not the newest or cleanest. It doesn't have fancy electronic signs telling you when the next train will arrive. It doesn't need that. It takes you to some of the hottest and most desirable stops in town. Lets start on the Brooklyn end where it begins at Coney Island, a NYC landmark that is sadly closing it's doors this year. It travels through the incredibly trendy and family-oriented tree lined streets of Park Slope, and momentarily stalls at the Southwestern side of Prospect Park, before stopping off at one of my favorite parts of town, DUMBO. It halts here beneath the dramatic end of the Manhattan Bridge to give cinematic pause to the quiet cobblestone streets and and breathtaking lighting. From here, the F continues chugging along towards the Lower East Side, allowing young drunken kids to stumble around on the noisy bar-filled streets. Next it halts at East Village (2nd Ave) before heading towards Soho (Broadway/LaFayette), heading to NYU's West 4th Street and then onto the Meatpacking District on 14th Street. Next it heads North to Chelsea at 23rd Street and makes the usual tourist stops at 34th Street for the Empire State Building, 42nd Street for Times Square, Bryant Park and the like, and 47-50th Streets for Rockerfeller Center and then onward to 57th Street to let passengers disembark to Central Park. From there it stops off in the Upper East Side and at Hunter College before stopping on oft-forgotten Roosevelt Island (it is the only line that has the honor of stopping there). After that it moved out into Queens hitting the "new Williamsburg" Long Island City and then on out to Jamaica. Whew! What a trip! See it all! Viva F! read more

I don't care. I love the F. I live far enough out into Brooklyn that I always have my pick of seats on a Manhattan-bound train, even during morning rush hour. It's usually convenient, save for weekend construction times. It doesn't serve any exceptionally dangerous neighborhoods. It tends to smell funky and feel moist during the late winter/early spring period for some reason but when there aren't any other convenient transit options you just gotta deal with it. It gets me where I need to go. One star off for the icky moist smell, though - it's only 2/3 months out of the year but it just smacks you in the face when you get in the car. read more

I've seen worse. This train will take you from Jamaica (YIKES!) by Hillside Avenue, through Queens, into Manhattan along the 6th Avenue Line, then through Downtown Brooklyn, Carroll Gardens, Prospect Park, and along McDonald Avenue until Coney Island. It really depends on the day and time and place that you ride. Otherwise, this train is a hit or miss. It can be reliable during the AM Rush Hour, as seen when I ride it for a week straight during the summer twice for an event in the city) from Roosevelt Avenue (after transferring from the 7) to 6th Avenue. If you go from Brooklyn to Manhattan or Queens, the first part of the trip can be pretty empty during the day until you get near Downtown Brooklyn. That's expected, since there is commuter traffic in Downtown Manhattan and along 6th Avenue. I usually am pleased with the F, however, my experience yesterday dropped my feelings quite a bit. I was going to Carroll Gardens to meet up with someone. I did my usual exiting the 7 at Roosevelt and transferring to the F downstairs. I was thinking about taking the G from Court Square because it avoids Manhattan traffic, but I had never rode the G before, and I didn't know if I would be putting myself in danger by going into an area that I didn't know that turned out to be very shady and unsafe. BOY WAS I WRONG. We sat at Roosevelt for a good 5-10 minutes before actually leaving. The conductor announced that we would be traveling via the E Line and then transferring back to normal after West 4th. Ok, fine, it's the same amount of stops. After this announcement? Another announcement stating that we would only go via 53rd Street until 6th Avenue. Again, same stops. That's not an issue. I just find it a little frustrating that the conductor changed the routing THREE times (F, F via E, and F via 53rd). We found out that we had to change due to a "smoke condition" at Lex-63rd. That's ok, stuff happens. We then proceeded to stop in between stops after going on the local track in Queens. When we got to Manhattan, that was a different story. The stopping continued, but we stopped for much LONGER periods of time. Luckily, we had allowed for additional travel time. We got to West 4th Street, and just STOPPED. For 15-20 minutes without any announcement. Well, I shouldn't say that. Without any CLEAR announcements. Everything was so muffled. We learned that a sick passenger was in the train ahead of us, and couldn't move until the "medical situation" was taken care of. Even after we started moving again, we continued to get halted in between stations, especially in the long tunnel between East Broadway and York Street. We ended up getting to Bergen Street almost 2 1/2 HOURS AFTER WE LEFT Roosevelt Avenue!!! So a 1 hr and 10 minute trip basically DOUBLED!!! Otherwise, the F is a hit or miss. Watch out on the Jamaica-Kew Gardens section. Also, several Brooklyn segments can be a little shady as well. Watch out for the homeless panhandling late at night! read more

my daily staple. transfers in the city to other lines are a bit inefficient, but the F takes me anywhere where I need to go (midtown to catch the Metro-North to/from work, LES/Bleecker St. area for drinking, Coney Island for...Coney Island). added side bonus: on some weekends when I visit friends in Hoboken, I have 4 (YES FOUR) options to get off at to hop on the PATH (W. 4th, 14th, 23rd, and 33rd), and get there within an hour from home. when I was in college, I did the same but in reverse (ah, New Jersey - far enough for the parental units to NOT visit, but close enough for me to trek home when needed...) also, all Coney-Island bound stops after Church Avenue are outside, so you get some great views. point deductions for: RANDOMLY deciding to stop at Kings Highway at times the weekend construction schedule...oy vey! at least it's not all the time... read more

I take this train every single day to work from Jackson Heights and on the weekends when exploring Manhattan/Brooklyn. They use mainly the newer train cars which are ok, however I liked the older R46 cars as they had more seats, were roomier and bigger. The train is very fast when getting to midtown. On a good morning, 15 mins to Rockefeller Center from Roosevelt Ave and 20 minutes on the way back. There are always plenty of F trains running so you don't have to wait more than a few minutes for one. However... The train is RIDICULOUSLY crowded, even in the off peak hours. Even in the off hours, the train is already standing room only by the time it leaves Forest Hills. I get this train is express in Queens but seeing how the vast majority from midtown get off at Jackson Heights, the M local is generally less crowded and only takes 3-4 minutes longer at most (according to the MTA trip planner). Finding room to get on during the morning rush hour is a feat in itself. I sometimes have to wait for 2 or 3 F trains to pass by at Roosevelt Ave before I can even get on to STAND because there is no room to get on. And on the way back, the train is already packed like sardines by the time it hits Rockefeller Center, while the M train whisks in half empty at the same time. There are also always delays on this line. Usually signal issue, track work, whatever issue, the F will have something up every week so leave early if you depend on this line. read more

As far as train service goes, the F gets an "A"...it is always either on time or a few minutes off. I am obviously not counting when the MTA has a major service issue or track failure. I hate the corrupt MTA, and thought all trains were awful when my main train was the A train. That service sucks and is dirty, awful and scary sometimes. F train gets me into the city in under an hour and is always a great ride. No complaints here. read more

Love and Hate relationship with the F Train: Weekday mornings you can be the most annoying thing to grace the planet earth.. why? Because some mornings after waiting for you for a good 10mins you decide not to stop at my station instead deciding to blow your horn as you pass by as if to say "see ya later" After-which when I finally get on board, you make endless stops while crawling to Manhattan. Upon arriving in Manhattan you show your lack of speed by allowing the B and D express trains to leave you in the dust hence your occupants desert you at Broadway-Lafayette and West 4th for your faster B and D cousins. After work I have to endure the grueling task of waiting for you to arrive while I'm baking in the human ovens otherwise known as subway stations. When u finally arrive either you have no room to accommodate me or if I'm lucky to make it in, you make the term "mass transit" look like an understatement. Then depending on your mood, you at times decide to skip my stop when want to make express stops thereby ejecting me from your cars and leaving your sister behind you to do the dirty work. However, I'll cut you some slack on weekends when you take me home after a night out and in no driving condition, you allow me the luxury to have an outing without worrying about your schedule since u run around the clock. And did I mention, you possess some of the finest ladies that ride subways in the city. In that department you get a 10 out of 10. read more

I'm from the Hudson Valley, so I don't know much about the subway sytem in NYC. Well last month, I experienced the moment. I took the F train from Bryant Park to East Broadway to get to a bus station. Not bad, but I felt like some old man was stalking me seriously. Well, I didn't get hurt or robed, thank goodness. The train arrived on time and all. However, on my trip back to Bryant Park a couple of days later, some mariachi band came along and did their number and boy oh boy was that annoying. They got off before I did and I felt like throwing a rock or two at them. Well anyways, that was my little experience on the F train. read more

The F train is my most favorite train in the MTA. It gets me to where I want to go, it's fast, and it's reliable. However, DO NOT take this on the weekends, it's completely the opposite. Since I live in Queens, F train is our express train and it saves me so much time. Compared to the other trains, it's the second most reliable next to the 6th Train. Also, there's one more problem, it goes to ghettos, so you may want to watch out for your IPODs and personal possessions. read more

For those who live on the Nassau/Queens border, this train is an excellent cheaper alternative to the LIRR. It does take a little longer, but if you plan your travel time a little earlier, you will get into Manhattan quickly. Pretty much connects to every other train at one point or the other and anywhere I need to get to on limited mobility. read more

I am a fan of the F train since this is the second fastest way for me to get into Manhattan other than the express E train that I normally take. I like that the F leaves me at Bryant Park and that is very very close to important things in the city such as Times Square and many of the popular places that people like to frequent while being in the city. read more
