Upon entering the store, I saw two women standing behind the counter, and they did not acknowledge me. I almost walked out at that point because I found it odd they did not greet me. I was in the store for about 15 minutes looking and waiting for someone to acknowledge me. I walked up to the counter to check out and the young girl, Marissa said "number?" I paused and nearly gasped out loud because she did not try to offer me an item to buy at the register. She wrung up my items then I stated I did not want two of them and wanted to go look for something else. As I was walking to look for a different toner, she had reached into the paper bag then threw the items on the floor behind her. I turned around to see if that really just happened and it did. The old lady, Judy, said to her "what does she need?" Then she asked me what I needed, to my reply I said "Now you want to acknowledge me after being in here for twenty minutes now to see what I need?" Her reply was "Well we said 'Hello!' Then proceeded to say "well you brought a dog in here".... Mind you, my SERVICE dog was on a leash and at my side, did not make a noise or mess with anything. There were no signs stating I could not bring her in with me and I have never had an employee at that location or any other location say a word about her. Floored, I asked who the manager was and if it was the lady who had walked in while I was looking and went to the back because she had ACTUALLY HELPED me yesterday. The old lady said "I am" and to my reply "well you both could use some customer service lessons from her because she was so nice and helpful when I was in here yesterday". The young girl Marissa laughed at my response and I said "is something funny?" She nodded yes to my surprise. At that point I was DONE with their deplorable behavior. On Saturday evening, my 16-year-old son and 20-year-old daughter brought eight of my Buff City Soap containers to this location to be refilled. A store employee accepted the containers and instructed them to leave a sticky note with my name and phone number, which they did. When I returned Sunday at approximately 2:30 p.m. to pick up and pay for my refills, I was told that I was required to have been physically present when the containers were dropped off. I was confused because an employee had accepted all eight containers from my children the previous evening and specifically told them to leave my contact information. I also did not see a posted policy explaining this requirement. Instead of simply answering my questions and explaining the policy professionally, the interaction escalated unnecessarily. I was not greeted when I entered the store, and the interaction at the refill counter was dismissive and unwelcoming. When I asked to speak with the owner for clarification, I was told that I could not. I was also told that if I continued asking questions, my containers would not be refilled. Most concerning, the individual who identified himself as the district manager stated that he would contact someone to have me escorted from the store. I left feeling humiliated, disrespected, and unwelcome. As a Black woman, the way I was treated and how quickly the situation escalated left me seriously concerned that I was being treated differently. I have been a repeat paying customer of this location and was simply asking for clarification about a policy that appeared inconsistent with what my children had been told the previous evening. My husband later went to the store to ask management why I had been treated this way. The account provided to him included information and characterizations that did not accurately reflect my experience. I have submitted a formal complaint to Buff City Soap corporate and requested that the incident be investigated, including review of any available surveillance footage and clarification of the company's actual refill policy. I did not expect special treatment. I expected professionalism, courtesy, and the ability to respectfully ask questions without being threatened with refusal of service or removal from the store. I sincerely hope Buff City Soap corporate and the franchise owner take this experience seriously.

They offered thoughtful recommendations for both skincare and hair care based on specific concerns I mentioned, which I really appreciated. I also left with samples of the products I was interested in trying -- something I love that they offer, as it makes it easy to test items before committing. I was honestly surprised by how much they've expanded their product line. In addition to their classic bath and body items, they now carry makeup and even toothpaste.
