the smell of roach spray upon entry to the restaurant was prevalent. I've been here before and I've never seen a bug and most restaurants get them. We know this, we stayed as it was my daughter's birthday. the cocktails were extremely watery and flavourless. The diet soda pop was flat. We ordered mussels, which also tasted like hot water with herbs. I did not taste broth, white wine or garlic. In fact, the mussels tasted somewhat metallic. French onion soup was also flavourless, watery and cold. The cheese had not even melted. The croutons were still crisp. I ordered the vegan cauliflower with chimichurri. The chimichurri was made with tons of fresh rosemary, and it overpowered any other herb in the chimichurri sauce on the cauliflower. My daughter's salmon dinner was excellent. My husbands wedge salad had bitter lettuce and he didnt eat it. Server didn't notice anything was off or wrong. we paid and left, then we went for dessert, nightcaps and coffee elsewhere. My daughter still had a great birthday dinner. The restaurant should do better check seasoning, freshness and temperature of food they are serving. read more

Visited The Farmhouse over the August long weekend as it was still open for Civic Monday, and I was happy in my experience! Our server was extremely kind, and seemed like she loved her job a lot! Unfortunately, I didnt catch her name though. In addition to this, my friends and I were on our way home from a trip so we had lots of bags and a suitcase, though we had an accomodating space as they had a nicely sized dining room. I got a Mac 'n Cheese with a side of their farm fries and a the seasonable vegetable which was corn on the cob. The Mac 'n Cheese was very cheesy and had a rich cream sauce, though I do wish it had a bit more flavour but I think it was very good! Came here when everything started to open back up and Oh have I missed dining at patios w/ the sun shining on me! We came here with some friends and they ordered the salmon dish, burgers and I got the beef dip. We tasted my boyfriends burger and thought it was good but to be priced over $20 I thought I could of tasted more than average. As for the beef dip I was very disappointed and really wanted to love it. I've been eyeing this restaurant especially because we are all moving here and I am such a foodie that I need to find the food spots to go. Especially to dine in by the lake is my favourite thing to do. Back to the food..The beef dip looked beautiful and I got sides of romaine salad and Mac n cheese. Price was was very reasonable for this dish especially when the food came out the portion was more than perfect. Unfortunately the beef dip sandwich was very dry which made the entire sandwich hard to eat and tasteless. (Kinda like when you leave scraps of meat behind on a KBBQ grill) The beef jus is what kind of helped the dryness of the beef but also just not as rich in flavour as other restaurants. The romaine salad was mainly just lettuce with stale croutons. The Mac and cheese wasn't as flavourful as other places as well. I think if you go with a side of fries it will be better. Because I keep eating my boyfriends fries over my own meal. The ambiance and atmosphere was beautiful and especially nice with this whole Covid thing. As for food I just expected more because the restaurant looked like it was the place to go. I also want to mention that this restaurant allows dogs which is another reason I wanted to love it and keep coming back. We just got back from dinner at The Farmhouse restaurant. Our party was booked as a birthday dinner for 6. We arrived and were seated in a small room with a group of 12 to 14 of the most inconsiderate people we've come across in a long time. This review is a direct reflection on the manager of this establishment on this particular night (Feb 22 2025 ). You failed completely. The atmosphere you allowed to be created for us was abysmal. Our server was obviously struggling to take our orders because of the over the top noise from this group. For you to think it would be ok for us to try and enjoy our evening in the same room as these entitled, obnoxious couples was ridiculous. To the owner of The Farmhouse you need to re evaluate the training of your staff. This isn't Jack Astors or Kelseys where this type of behaviour is normal. Or so we thought. This was a complete failure. They were in the room before we arrived and our table should have been re assigned before we sat down. Our server was apologetic but there really wasn't anything he could do. Unfortunately we would never recommend The Farmhouse to anyone even though the food was good. You obviously only care about asses in the seats and not the dining experiences of your patrons. With all the choices in Barrie we won't be back. read more

The prices are super high. The service is slow. Other than the patio, the inside is very chopped up rooms so it's a bit of an odd layout. Delicious meal, good service and excellent atmosphere! That sums up my first dinner experience here. It was a Friday night and clearly a busy spot since parking was limited (reason for 4 stars). I came here as a party of two and decided to try one of their cocktails, which was very refreshing - you can even get your drink "farmed up" - you'll have to go check them out to find out what that means. :) As for the food - we ordered the crispy trout, the mussels and house salad - the mussels were sooo good! A smoky bacon flavour. Would order again for sure! We shared oysters which were good too. We also opted for dessert since they offered a gluten free chocolate torte. It was rich and so tasty. The Farmhouse is located in a beautiful and impressive heritage building (built in 1907), and has a nice patio outside as well as one on the second floor. I only saw the first floor, but the interior is tastefully decorated and a nice open space with exposed brick and old wood. The place has some interesting touches, including a fridge full of live potted herbs when you first enter, some more eclectic menu items (see below), and a note on the menu about the premises supposedly being haunted and to inquire regarding (our server was more than happy to oblige with his own tale). For brunch I thought I'd give the Dill Pickle Brined Fried Chicken Eggs Benny a try. I also ordered a Caesar, which was excellent - the glass was rimmed with Montreal steak spice, a nice touch that kicked it up a peppery notch. The meal was great too - a breakfast dish halfway between traditional Eggs Benedict and chicken and waffles (pickles included!) The potatoes came in a little metal basket which was cute. They were a touch overseasoned with salt and pepper but still good. Great spot to stop for brunch and try something different, or just to take in the setting. I recommend checking it out! read more

Came in here during Appy Hour. It was mediocre. Appetizers were alright. Smaller than the full price ones. Maybe I shouldn't have been surprised. I just assumed the appetizers on this special "appy hour" menu of 3-5 pm were discounted because it was a lull in the day and it is meant to entice drop-ins. Tipped 18%. She then came back and told us she forget to add one of our drinks. You'd think she would comp it. At the very least discount it. But she came back with the new bill. You can't serve fried chicken nuggets on a dry, toasted crostini guys.... it doesn't work. It was hard to eat and made an absolute mess. And garnishing your plates with browning oxidized lettuce doesn't fit with your price range, please grow and serve micro greens it's much more presentable and classy. - my beef dip sandwich I was really looking forward to but it was a complete disappointment. Everyone in the culinary industry knows you must serve a beef dip on a hard French bread - it was very disappointing sloppy mess. Overly sauced with horseradish mayo (which was really good) but couldn't dip in the jus that it was served with because the bread would just turn into mush - please change this bread so your customers can really enjoy your lovely beef dip, or take it off the menu if you cannot bake different bread for this sandwich. - salad was great! The Cesar dressing was very light which was fantastic but very flavourful because of the vinaigrette - you aced this one. My partner ordered chicken sandwich and he said it was the best sandwich he has ever had and your fries are hand cut and freshly blanched in house so that's another great! But when dessert came, I was no less dissatisfied. The shortcake was more of a hard cornbread textured sponge cake, shortcake is supposed to be light and fluffy but this was dry and overbearing in comparison to the amount of compote served with it. This would be better sold is a small ramekin/jar and needs to be better stored after making a mass amount. I likely won't be back but you have an a+++ servers so that's another good point for you. read more

We enjoyed our meal here a lot! The food is definitely above average pub food and other than a few minor service issues, our evening was pretty much perfect. We called to see if we needed a reservation on a Saturday night and they told us they were totally booked up but then found us a spot at 7:30. When we arrived the place was pretty empty so I'm not sure what that was about. We were seated promptly and given menus. We waited a little while for our waitress to come to the table and once she finally did, we asked for a drink menu which she brought right away but didn't return for a while. After several minutes a different waitress came by and said she'd be taking care of us. We ordered our food and drinks and, while everything was pretty prompt, the waitress had an air of attitude and rudeness about her. We actually overheard her asking a customer to cut into their steak in front of her to see if it was cooked properly. It was a bit off-putting to me. We went with the beef sandwich and the trout. Each of the entrees comes with two sides which is nice because you get a variety of items with your meal instead of just one larger side. I went with the macaroni and cheese and daily soup which was a type of vegetable soup. We also tried the baked potato and a romaine salad, all of which were delicious. The salad was in a small mason jar though which was awkward to eat from so it had to be poured out into the plate. The food was really good, I think the trout was the winner, it had a nice crispy skin and was flavourful and cooked nicely. The only thing was that the sauce was placed underneath the crispy skin so it got soggy very quickly. I might ask for the sauce on the side next time. The beef sandwich was also good, I found it to be missing the mushrooms though which was ok because I'm not a big fan, but it might have upset someone else looking forward to them. I loved the macaroni and cheese and my soup was flavourful and lovely. Price point was pretty fair, it's not super costly and the food feels fresh and of good quality. Portion size was also good, the sides are quite small though but at least you get two of them! Dinner for 4 is probably about $100 or so. Service was our only issue, the first waitress we had seemed really nice but then we got another girl who was a bit less friendly and a bit pushy. At the end of our meal she just offered the bill and didn't ask if we wanted dessert or coffee. Again, it was ok because we were full but it kind of felt like a rush. The restaurant is beautiful, it's in an old farmhouse or hotel, if I remember correctly. It feels really historical but has a cool modernness to it. I loved the chandeliers and farm artwork on the walls. The space is cozy and warm and would be great for a date, a family gathering or anything in between. Despite the service I would definitely come back. The food is excellent and the restaurant is really cool. On a warmer night the upstairs patio seems amazing and I would definitely want to try that out on my next visit! read more

Great farm to table dining! I had the goat cheese sandwich with a pomegranate mint salad and farm fresh garlic potato mash. They have a full bar and offer maple syrup from their farm. You can see fresh herbs and greens growing in a mini greenhouse as you come in the door. There is a view of the lake and I'm sure it's stunning when the weather is good. Went there for breakfast and was given the choice of being seated inside or on the patio. It was a nice day so we chose the patio. The lunch menu was on the table but they promptly rectified the issue by getting the menu. The server had great recommendations. One member of our group ordered the farmhouse breakfast and requested to change it to French toast. There was an extra cost and it was worth every penny. The food came rather quickly and we weren't disappointed. Everything smelled incredible and tasted just as good. The potatoes were my favourite part.
