This review is for take-out as I was TAPPED out after freshman orientation and the heat. Let's start with why it is 5 stars when I'm going to make some critical comments....the reason? The burger was that good. Because I want to end on a positive, let me start with negatives: the fries were okay. Normally these are a side dish not worth mentioning but this restaurant makes them a star with a fry menu. ( I humbling suggest they try frying in beef tallow to make it a whole other fry experience). The other critical comment is my French onion soup (on take out) was really cold and we weren't late nor (but for the fries) anything else cold. To give you reference, I microwaved for 1 minute and was still cold and did another 1:30. But it was delicious. Now, why 5 stars? The burgers. My son and I both got the Lancaster burger with horseradish mayo on the side and substituting wagyu. It was heaven. It was perfection. We still think and talk about that burger and any food that makes you miss is worth 5 stars! read more

One of our favorite stops in State College to meet up with family. Service is quick, the staff and waitress were helpful on suggestions and keep it real with you regarding what they like/don't like. I was disappointed with our most recent visit to The Field. We were here in January and had an excellent experience. The service was spot on, the food was cooked perfectly, the burgers were very tasty, the criss-cut sweet potato fries with hot honey and vinegar salt were fantastic, and the shakes were delicious. That first visit was memorable enough that we were excited to come back. This time, we waited about 50 minutes at around 5:30PM on a Thursday before graduation weekend. Honestly, that part was understandable, and we were prepared for a wait. We had a nice booth for five and ordered table fries, a few shakes, and five burgers. The fries were still excellent, and the shakes were great. Unfortunately, the burgers and service did not live up to the previous visit. My burger tasted more like stewed meat than seared beef, almost as if it had been sitting for a while. It was overcooked and under-seasoned. Our server was pleasant enough, but several sides, condiments, and modifiers were forgotten. Waters were never refilled, the table was not cleared, and a salad that had been misordered was not removed from the bill. I understand it was a busy night, but at around $40 per person for food at a burger place, I expected more consistency. I'll give The Field another try the next time I'm in town because our first experience was so good, but this visit was a letdown. read more

We sat at the bar and despite how packed it was, our service & speed of our food and drinks was amazing! We asked for our burger to be split & they even plated it separately! The buffalo chicken dip kept the momentum going, and "The Hoot" spicy chicken sandwich sealed the deal as one of the best meals we've had in town. Went here with my girlfriend and her family when we were back in PA visiting and we wanted to try something new. I ended up getting the Lancaster burger and it was honestly one of the better burgers I have had in a while. It was juicy, cooked just right, and had a ton of flavor that made it worth the trip on its own. The place definitely has an energetic vibe which was fun but also meant it was pretty loud and a little tough to keep a conversation going at times. Service was good but not amazing. Everyone was friendly and checked in on us, but the food took a while to come out and the cocktails were kind of underwhelming. All that said it is still a solid spot and I would go back for that burger again without thinking twice. read more

The experience here was pretty disappointing overall. While there were a few positives like the blue cheese on my burger, which was really good, the fries, the spinach salad, and a good martini, a lot of things missed the mark. My burger was supposed to have mushrooms added, but they forgot them. My friend asked for no peppers and still got them anyway. Another dish that was supposed to be BBQ pulled pork came out dry and didn't even have BBQ sauce, which was confusing. Service was slow and not very attentive. Our server barely came by, and it took about 20 minutes just to place an order for milkshakes. We also asked for our burgers to be cooked pink, but they came out well done. Tried this spot last Friday for the first time. We arrived around 6:45pm and it was a 35-45 minute wait for the four of us. We were able to snag some seats at the bar and enjoyed a few beverages while we waited. FYI the drink menu online is not updated. The bartender was very friendly and personable. The restaurant was lively and packed. The restaurant is not overly big so expect a wait at prime dining times. The Burgers did not disappoint, they were huge! In hindsight my daughter and I should have shared one. We had a pretzel to start and it was great with the trio of dipping sauces (I preferred the mustard), the burgers come with chips (they were okay/nothing special). We did get a table of fries and it was a LARGE portion, we didn't finish! I gave it 4 stars bc I did tell the hostess we were celebrating a birthday in our party but the server never acknowledged it and one of our chips were spilled and he said he'd bring out a new order but never did. Overall a solid choice for dinner. The other day me and my sister came here for lunch. This is one of my favorite restaurants in town. I think it has some of the best food. Never had a bad experience here. That's why I keep coming back. Maybe it's the burgers the service or the milkshakes I don't know they're all great. The ambience is nice. We sat on the patio. It was very nice and warm out. Wasn't too overcrowded for us one or two other groups we got crab fries with the sauce and we split a salted caramel milkshake. We didn't need much either one of us were starving. Their burgers though let me tell you they are delicious. They're probably the best burger in State College near Toftrees golf resort so if you're into golf, we're just at State College. You can stay there and it's just a walk over to the Spielberg and I would highly recommend for the state College area coming and checking out this restaurant if you're looking for some good food And good service. read more

Parmesan ones were soggy and the sweet potato ones were burnt beyond recognition. The Juicy Lucy was over cooked and they did not disclose a $5 up charge for the side salad. The restaurant is known for its burgers and truffled fries. They are 5 star handsdown. Delicious. I had to stop eating the truffle fries because they were so good. There is a full bar. This is a great burger bar! My wife and I stopped here for lunch while road-tripping through Pennsylvania and this made for a great stop for us. The restaurant is spacious and has lots of wooden booths, which was very comfortable. They have a good selection of PA beers and I really enjoyed my IPA as it paired well with my burger. I got the hot chick burger and it was delicious and very filling. My wife got a grilled chicken spinach salad and she really enjoyed her meal as well. We went here for Easter brunch and so far it's one of my favorites in state college. It is on a golf course which gave nice views while eating. The food was delicious! Lots of options for burgers and sandwiches. We ordered the Parmesan fries for the table to share and what they do is they put a piece of paper down and dump the fries on the table,which I thought was pretty cool. I'll start with the food. The food was great. We have tried to go here before but the wait times are terrible. There was a short wait at 4:50pm. We were put in a small room that's meant for private parties. I would not advise sitting in that room. You do not get the ambiance of the restaurant-- They couldn't get the music to work. It felt like a cafeteria. Unfortunately, we felt like our server was shady. When we ordered burgers, she made it sound like any side dish was included, but there is a large up charge. The menu does not tell you what the up charge is and she made it sound like any of the sides were included. Then when it was time to pay, she only verbally gave us the total and waited for the credit card. Shady to not be able to review the bill. After we paid, she said bye and we had to ask for a receipt. In the past, the Field Burger and Tap garnered 4 or 5 stars consistently. That, however, was when we lived in the area and dined here with some frequency. Unfortunately, things are changed in the years between our last visit, and this most recent one. Granted, the facility is undergoing or about to undergo major renovations. But even considering that, service was slow - food was inconsistent, while the fried pickles were tasty, their large soft pretzel app was hard and dry - yikes. Venerated "Field Burger" was pretty good but not the "star of the show" we had anticipated. All in all, things just didn't measure up. He was tops. He was extremely knowledgeable of the menu; so, he was able to offer suggestions and advice. He was handling a large table of 12, plus 2 more tables of 4, and me, alone. He hustled! Yet, he never showed it. He got my drinks, entree Ave dessert for me on a timely basis and correctly. Anyway, I had a burger with fries and a sangria. The burger was delicious and the sangria was very refreshing. The fries were burnt and very salty. I wanted the blueberry cake with ice cream, but they ran out; so, I just had a bowl of vanilla ice cream, and cup of coffee. The meal would have been perfect if not for the fries. Wow, just wow!!! This is in a hidden gem. The decor is really well done. We were in town for work and had 3 hours to wait for a colleague to land. Yelp to the rescue found this and looked good. Great beer selection that is rotating regularly. Copied another group near us at the bar and grabbed the nachos. Wrapped up the meal with their salty snowman during happy hour. Nachos were homemade potato chips covered in cheese sauce, blue cheese crumbles, crispy pulled pork (near carnitas style), and banana peppers! This flavor combo is really good. Salty Snowman is an upscale White Russian drink. The Carmel is definitely a game changer for this cocktail. Might have to mix this into my home bar rotation!!! read more

I've been to The Field a handful of times now and while I enjoy their food, they have some issues that really affect my dining experience. Their burgers are great but so is their fried chicken sandwich- I love that one! All sandwiches come with a side of chips and while you can request to get fries instead I believe they charge extra for their fries as a side, rather than just swapping out the chips for free. The burgers are already expensive so I find that a little annoying that they can't just switch forms of potato for free. I would also still be likely to pay for an appetizer of fries if they did that because their flavors are so fun (Parmesan truffle? Yes please!). Overall the food is good but overpriced for this area and just in general. The restaurant itself is located in a hotel which I find a little annoying at times, and it means they have particular rules on game day weekends about carry out because they are so swamped. The service is usually friendly but I often get the impression they are just trying to get us in and out as quickly as possible. Again, that's all fine and dandy until you start paying $20 for your burger and fries, not including a drink. For that much I want to be able to sit unbothered as long as I please and have polite service while I eat and enjoy my drinks. That's not the case, though. The restaurant can be noisy due to its layout and not a lot of sound absorbing features so that's an additional annoyance. I think overall it baffles me that such a popular restaurant won't find a new larger location to better accommodate people, but that's a trend I see often in state college so perhaps it's because of the major fluctuations in tourism.
