The Basement Nightspot is somewhere to go if it's a theme night and you know it will be crowded. Otherwise, the $3-$5 cover is not worth it and you end up in an empty room with an overpriced drink. The bouncers are always the friendliest people there. Don't expect kindness from anyone after you walk down to the bar (unless you go to the bartender with the long curly hair- she is the best!) Other than her and maybe a few exceptions, every bartender will give you the cold shoulder, ignore you, or act overall incredibly rude as if you are inconveniencing them for ordering a drink. Also, ALWAYS ask to close your tab right away. Drink wise, they're honestly pretty good but can get pricey fast. The music is usually pretty good and on a busy night, it's good vibes. This is all coming from someone who has been here 5+ times. If it's not crowded or the music isn't good, you're essentially paying upwards of $5 just to get in and be treated poorly. read more

This man tried to run my credit card somewhere between 10-20 times to the point where the peeling came halfway off of my card and it is now unusable. Favorite place to go. Amazing, cheap drinks that a strong and taste great. The place is huge with so many couches and tables that you don't need to buy to sit at. Plus it's the only bar in State College that will stamp your hand after you paid the cover so you can leave and come (and skip the line when you return). Owners, staff and bartenders are super nice. I'm THAT friend that gets wrangled into going to Indigo. The one that can't dance unless he's comedy option drunk, doesn't exactly want to find a one night stand, and mostly just wants to drink and chill with buds while listening to D&B. I can live with just that at least. I hadn't been there in ages and my old friend visited town again so I decided "Sure, why not? At least I can get blitzed enough to forget I'm here." Therein lies the problem. I get in, throw down $5 for cover and $1 for coat check. No biggie. I get to the triangular bar island near the nuclear toilets and manage to get two Miller Lite aluminums in roughly about 5 minutes of waiting which isn't bad on a packed night which I quickly dispose of. This begins to worry me. I am not getting drunk fast enough for how trashy everyone around me is. I switch to liquor. I hit up the same island again, 5 minute wait, I get a vodka red bull that is the size of a small Dixie cup. There is barely any booze in this drink. I am upset, yet adamant in my quest for drunken forgetfulness. I move with my group to the lower area on the left with the long vertical bar island. I switch back to beer and decide to order two pints of Sam Adams, just anything to keep the train of forget moving. The tiny female bartender took roughly 15 minutes to notice me as I tried to flag her down. At least I eventually left with my beers, which I downed. I returned for another two. I waited in the same spot as before for over a good 20-30 minutes waiting for the bartender who in this time period waited on cuter men, chatted with them, and proceeded to serve everyone else but myself and the two gruff looking frat-types next to me. I left the bar area, flagged down one of the Miller Lite girls, and just bought an aluminum bottle from them while I waited. Ahh, convienence. The two frat guys took issue with this massive wait unlike myself, who was still patient due the fact I wasn't nearly buzzed enough. One of them tried to flag the girl down one last time and when she walked by, they were ignored. He'd had enough. Fratman yelled after her, "FUCKING WUSS!". Apparently this was upsetting enough to this novice bartender to have two bouncers come down, take Fratman under each arm, and throw him out as if he was in a cartoon western. Shortly after this, the little girl audibly cried and left the bar island area to go into the back, either to sob about how terrible at the job she was or for the sake of drama. My friend, noticing this altercation, the overall look of pain and confusion on my face from the lack of booze, took me by the arm and proceeded to drag me out of Indigo. She promised me we'd go to Zeno's later. We did. It was so much better. read more

I always seem to end up at this place. Arrive at 9:40, beat the cover. Down a few drinks while playing "the waiting game" until people are actually dancing. Start to feel good. Time to dance. If you don't like dancing or clubs, don't expect this place to magically knock you off your feet. It's basically one big dance floor with some flashy lights. It's as fun as you make it. The DJ's are usually mediocre, but I tend to be more a music critic than my friends. What I mean by mediocre is they will play your favorite song, finally! But then they switch it in 10 seconds to another just ok song. Every once in a while they have a really awesome DJ though. I think the main reason I like coming here is because the bouncers and the staff are all really nice. That's rare in the college town that is State College. So if you wanna get down and dance all night, grab a bunch of your friends and head over to Indigo. read more

It is 11:50pm on Thursday at Indigo, and I'm on my phone writing a Yelp review. There is definitely something wrong with that. The dance floor is at most half full, and the music is bad right now. The only reason they're getting two stars is cuz of the drink specials. Okay, so I'm finishing up this review at home, and I'll admit that as I was leaving around 12:20am it got slightly better. There were more people dancing, but the music was still lame. My friend this was a dead night for Indigo, so I really wonder what a good night for them is like because i've heard such "crazy" things about this place. As far as I know, this is the only club atmosphere/scene near Penn State. After walking down a flight of stairs, you quickly see the open dance floor and two bars. Drinks were decent and reasonably priced. The music was good and upbeat. I've honestly had nights at other clubs where drinks have been spilled on me, drunken idiots have shoved me and waited an absurd number of minutes for a drink. Indigo did a great job at keeping the craziness under control while allowing their patrons to have a good time. No one bothered me or seemed too out of control. It's a venue large enough to cram tons of people yet remain passable. The line on this particular Saturday night was loonnggg. It's obvious that knowing certain people will shorten your wait. Tonight was the second time that I showed up after having one drink at another bar and was refused entrance because I was "too drunk." Good drink specials and convenient centrally-located dance floor for when you're finally drunk enough to scream, "OMG! I love this song! Come dance with me!" as you grab your nearest unsuspecting friend and rush to dance your heart out to Miley Cyrus or whatever song tugs at your feet. Bartenders are hit or miss. Most of the girls and some of the guys are jerks and flat-out ignore you. Find a good bartender and keep going back to him/her. They're a keeper. While getting bored with mere bars I wanted to get my dance on and decided to try a club...even though I'm not really a club person (if that makes any sense). So I ventured into the Indigo club. Upon entering I immediately got a positive vibe from the music, which initially was pop r&b dance, and from the people who were dancing and enjoying themselves. There weren't too many people on the dance floor, although that changed very soon, and the vibe was fun-loving and not stuck up. Some places I've gone to I don't feel comfortable dancing but this place seemed to have a care-free vibe which allowed me to do my thing. Getting to the point, I joined some other dudes who like me danced at an artistic or almost battle level and even made a big circle where each of us did our thing. While it was difficult dancing with some of the girls, which is understandable being that I'm fairly older than them :/ , the overall vibe was good enough that I was confident enough to try and had fun doing it. The club is fairly large with a good sized dance floor that is perfect for dancing and not drenched with alcohol like in a lot of other places (particularly bars). So overall, I found Indigo to be an excellent place to go and enjoy dancing without any of the typical pet peeves of many traditional nightclubs (such as shallow superficial and arrogant people). read more

When I used to go to Penn State I loved this place. Besides Duo (which closed) this was like the only other club at State. Now that I'm older, I've realized a couple things. The music is ON POINT, love it but to get a drink is almost near impossible. I almost waited like 20 minutes to get a drink and I left because I"m not paying cover and standing near a bar where the bartender is only paying attention to one section. I understand it's a bunch of drunk college kids but service is service. Other than the service of the bartenders I would definitely recommend people to come out on the floor once in awhile to make sure no one is dying on the dance floor. I saw someone puking on the dance floor and I left immediately. To clean that up is difficult especially when it's packed unless you notice it right away. read more

Love Indigo.... probably cause it's basically the only decent club in SC right now. $2 drinks/shots till midnight, $2 aluminum bud light cans and $2 bacardi drinks all night. $3 cover. Line gets really long after 10pm so you gotta get there early unless you are drunk enough to wait. Not a bad place to pregame since drinks are so cheap before midnight. Closes at 2am which can be lame. After about 11pm it gets pretty packed and getting a drink can be tough. Good music. read more

Went here on a Sunday night to watch my friend perform. As far as I know, its one of the only "clubs" in State College. I used to go there when it was The Players Club, which was so 4 years ago! Gasp. $3 cover charge but it was going to a charity, I think the AIDS Project. We got a free Barcardi drink voucher because they are trying to come up with a new name to market their Sunday nights. I like the space of booths/ tables, dance floor and pool tables. And they have a 2nd bar that I assume they open up when it gets crowded. read more

Indigo is a super fun bar/club. On Thursday's they have $1 Long Island iced teas, as well as a bunch of other deals on different days. You can't beat the price, especially in a college town. It gets pretty packed, so you're probably going to wait in line for a bit. The bounces are kind of rude, and very strict with IDs - so if you're not 21 then you're not getting in. There's a bartender that likes to put your money in the tip jar and tell you that you haven't paid for your drink. He did it to someone else and then tried doing it to me; I tried calling him out on it and he told security to kick me out. When I was in SC, I enjoyed coming here every time. The alcohol is cheap before midnight on Thursdays (forgot about weekends) We always drank and danced while still tipsy. Since the dance floor was not that big, we always ended up stepping on someone's feet/ toes or being forced to dance with people you don't know. In the past three years they've definitely made an improvement. The drink specials have gotten cheaper, and you can even taste the alcohol in them now! The bartenders are good, and quick, but they could definitely use an extra few on the busy weekends. The DJ's are all great at their art, and usually provide spot on entertainment. For all the reviewers that complain of the DJ's 'only playing one minute' of your favorite song, this is the club standard as far as mixing top40 goes. If you're looking for songs to be played out, a club is not the place. Complaint wise, they really seem to move the line along excessively slow on the busier nights. I get that it can be a marketing tool to make the place seem busier than it is, but it can be disappointing to wait in line for ten minutes only to get in and realize the place isn't anywhere near capacity. Their clock for the drink specials seems to run fast as well. Been quite a few times where I'll order a drink with five minutes till the special ends and get told its past the time when they come back with the check. I've personally never liked the building itself, but that's something that can't be changed. The decor could use a bit of updating, but its built to house crazy college kids. read more

This means that if you hear a song you like, it will most likely be rapidly interrupted by a song you don't like. The crowd seems to eat up every song and dances with reckless abandon. If that's you, please sign up to have your brain studied when you die. The rest of us don't understand you. The fact is, small American towns like State College are way behind the rest of the world when it comes to music, particularly dance music. Disco, house, and techno--all American inventions--were created specifically for the purpose of making dancing interesting, making it an intellectually rich, expressive avant-garde. They've been dancing to this still-evolving music in New York, Chicago, Detroit, London, Berlin, and all over the rest of the world for over 30 years. No, it's not "Eurotrash" music. Lady Gaga is Eurotrash. Techno is part of what cultural historians call Afrofuturism. If you're leaving home, paying a cover, and accepting overpriced drinks with maximum hangover potential, wouldn't you rather hear something you've never heard before? Wouldn't you like to let music blow your mind? Wouldn't you like to have a singular experience that you'll remember forever? No? Okay. Bring condoms. read more

Indigo is the place to go! The drinks are the best among nightclubs, especially the yard sticks and the dumpsters. They always have one or two drink specials in the range of $1 to $3. The bar will take cards but will make you open a tab if the drink you're purchasing is very cheap. The layout is great, it has two bars if your thing is chilling, and lounge/VIP areas that revolve around a big dance floor. They bring a DJ, and it makes it into very diverse environments depending on the special of the day i.e. Latin Night, Football Weekends, State Patty's, 90's throwback... (check their Facebook page for that info). Most nights they will have a $3 cash-only cover starting at 10 pm, the trick is to get there 5 minutes before 10 ;) They could improve the A/C or add more fans, as it gets hot as an oven on the dance floor. read more

This is a not an Alumni friendly establishment. It is rather a rude and obnoxious quasi night club with bartenders and Bouncers looking to start trouble with guys. They go out of their way to be rude, and kick guys out very quickly. I would steer clear of this place if you are looking for the best that State College has to offer. So many other places that welcome everybody and treat their clientele with respect and appreciation. Probably THE hot spot in State College. On any Friday or Saturday night you will see the huge line stretching a quarter mile down college ave! If you love the dance/club scene then this is great for you. I hate it personally. EXTREMELY crowded, little place to sit and you don't really want to. If you are just there to chill you will hate it. It's all about the dance floor. Couple of hundred people crammed on their dance floor with the DJ playing typical club music. Takes forever to get a drink, the bathrooms are a wreck (piss everywhere, beer bottles left all over the place), the whole place is just grimy. A filthy club, filled with your club scene people. The actual bars have a large selection but it not only takes forever (and sometimes they will flat out ignore you I think if you're not "hot" or obviously a stand out) but the drinks are not that great. They are your typical club drink, light, watered down. If you wanna do the dance club thing, this is great. If you want to chill and just have a good time then stay away. read more

AND so fun to go back as an alumna with friends that all have disposable incomes...drinks were flowing like water all night...and considering that a round of drinks is equal to one vodka soda in LA, there were many rounds to be had!! read more

Get there when they open, before cover, on a night with $1 drinks. No line then, no expensive drinks, and a good night. The place is well laid out for a state college bar. There are 3 bars, one being the length of the place, one being a large triangle that serves out all three sides, and one being a small shack. The small bar usually doesn't have a line. If you want to meet people, put on your dancing shoes. It seems that everyone walks in there alone, and no one walks out alone. Bar staff and people are friendly. I spent enough time in the bars to know that this place is actually one of the best if you play your cards right. read more

You have to understand that for a town like State College, Indigo is pretty good. I mean i come from a big city (Paris), i know what you're thinking: how the hell did he end up in State College? Well it's Penn State's fault. anyways, when i first walked in i kinda laughed, the place is not too big, decoration is so 1990s (reminded me when i used to go clubbing when i was 15) and the music was ok. But then again i reminded myself that this was State College and i started having fun (after a couple of drinks) Once the drunk effect started kicking in, i started to enjoy my time and dance like crazy. People there are nice, if you're nice enough, you'll walk out with plenty of friends.(but too many guys on the "hunt", i don't know if that's an american thing) so finally Indigo is a pretty cool place when u wanna have fun here. drinks are cheap. As the only club in State College, undergrads will always still go despite any kind of reviews. When I visited for Homecoming weekend, the place was packed by 10pm when they start charging cover.
