I absolutely love Paraiso Plant Studio!…read more They are located in the cute part of Berkeley, where there are tons of shops and restaurants. I wandered into the store, mostly on a whim, and I'm so thrilled that I did! The staff is absolutely sweet, helpful, and makes shopping so easy. Did I plan on buying a plant? Not at all. Did I? Absolutely! All of their plants are indoor specific, and they will help you find the perfect plant. Do you need a plant that goes in that spot in your Home or Office? That's full Senh? They've got you covered. Do you need a plant that prefers subtle or little to no lighting in your home or office? They've got you covered. Their plants are beautiful, healthy, and they range in different sizes from the most petite, too much larger sizes. The plant I picked out with help from one of the staff, not only is perfect for the space that I want it for, but because I also purchased a lovely ceramic pot, as a complementary service, they repotted my plant in its new ceramic pot. They do offer repotting for your plants, and it's obvious that they have a ton of repeat customers. The store was becoming busy as I was looking at all the different plants, gifts, etc., and if people weren't purchasing arrangements, or having repotting done, they were purchasing new plants like I was. This is a special place to get lost in, shop in, and fall in love with plants.

Every person I've encountered has been such a gem; they're kind and down to earth. Some of the plants are a bit on the pricey side, but they are all beautiful and well cared for, and you're supporting a small business, so it's worth it. On my last trip, I scored a beautiful Hoya Kerrii for $13.50. It was such a fantastic deal considering how many leaves it has! I also love that they have tiny plants in tiny pots, which makes you feel like you're growing something from scratch, plus they're super cute! I'm not in the East Bay often but will make sure I stop here, next time I'm in the area. Highly recommend!

It's a great spot if you're looking to grow your own food or just enjoy a calm walk through nature. There's a section for indoor houseplants, but it's a bit limited. Most of the options are Succulent plants and hardier varieties, so if you're looking for a large variety of tropicals or more delicate indoor plants, you might not find much--though there is a separate indoor plant area that was closed off during our visit. You'll definitely notice the fertilizer smell when you walk in--not overwhelming, but something to be aware of if you're sensitive. Still, the overall atmosphere is relaxing and grounding. It's a really lovely spot to explore, especially if you enjoy gardening or just want a nature-filled reset. Heads-up for allergy sufferers: with all the plants, pollen, and earthy air, you may want to plan accordingly. We didn't directly interact with the staff, but they seemed friendly and helpful, assisting other guests as I walked by. Parking: There's plenty of side street parking available in the surrounding neighborhood, and a few spots right in front of the entrance. Hours: * Monday-Thursday: Closed * Friday: 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM * Saturday-Sunday: 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM

I love the gift shop as well. There are artisan crafts that will make the perfect gift or addition to your home. Staff is fun and helpful as well. Please see the photos below. As a customer of Flowerland for several years, writing the following brings me no joy. I was there…read morethe other day and saw a pair of gauntlet gloves. There was no price. I asked; the woman behind the counter looked it up and answered: $42. That seemed a bit expensive, so I checked online. While checking, the same woman comes over, sits down next to me, and asks, "Can I tell you something? Small business can't compete with Harbor Freight," then gets up and leaves. First, her statement to me was incredibly condescending. I'm almost 60 years old and know how businesses large and small work. She didn't need to scold me like I'm 5 years old. (FYI, Harbor Freight doesn't even sell any gauntlet gloves.) Did she honestly think she'd either guilt or shame me into buying their gloves? Did she think that was a good tactic to engender customer loyalty? Second, I'm all for -- and do -- support local businesses, even if it means paying a little bit more. As I said initially, I've been a customer of Flowerland's for several years. In general, if an item seems expensive, I check online not only to compare price, but to read reviews, in this case, for the particular brand of gloves. If an item has 4- and 5-star reviews, perhaps it's worth the extra price and I have made such purchases in the past. I've certainly knowingly paid more for their 1-gallon plants averaging around $22 whereas I know that many places sell 1-gallon plants for around $15. Third, in this case, this particular brand of gloves was about four times the typical cost of other gauntlet gloves I saw online. As I said, sometimes I'm willing to pay more to support a local business, but that does not mean I'm willing to do so unconditionally at any price -- especially for things like gloves that, no matter how good quality they are, will eventually wear out. Gloves are disposable, commodity items. (The seams at the fingertips are always the first part to wear out.) If that woman is independently wealthy, works at Flowerland just for fun, and pays any price any small business asks, well good for her. Some of us, myself included, are retired and are living off savings. From now on, I'll stick to Berkeley Hort, Orchard Nursery, and others where I have never been condescended to by any member of staff. Oh, and Berkeley Hort's plant prices tend to be better anyway.
