Whether front row or waaaay back on top last row you can always see the stage! Sadly the bartenders are not the most polite types but that's what I'm not hete for! The theatre has lots of Character and a good history of music, comedy and everything entertaining! read more

Definitely my most favorite venue in Detroit to see shows/concerts. I've seen plenty of shows here at The State (I still refuse to call it The Fillmore) has yet to disappoint. I just went to a show last Friday, and like always, I was reminded how much I really love this venue. With most shows I definitely prefer getting main floor tickets but I have had mezzanine seating in the past which was good (but it definitely depended on the show). The security is pretty good, but again it depends on the show. Be prepared to light up your squares outside as the venue has gone smoke free. Parking can be an interesting venture, I often like to park in bricktown and either walk or people move it over to the area. Great pre-drinking can be done at The State Bar next door or Cliff Bell's one block over. Minus one star for outrageous beer prices (which is to be expected but, hey, I still want to complain about it!) read more

This is really a review of two separate issues: the staff at the Fillmore and the Fillmore's ticketing policy. Let's start with the good, 4 stars for the staff. Having spent a total of 9 consecutive hours at the Fillmore between waiting in line for a show and the show itself, I didn't encounter a single employee who was rude, inconsiderate, or ignorant. Several of the staff came outside while we were waiting and chatted with us, also allowing us to bounce questions off of them regarding everything from history, to venue policies, to "how do we get to the front?" They even worked with a few of us who had ticket issues that didn't arise until we had got there. Which leads me to my next point... The Fillmore's ticketing policy (whether dictated by Live Nation or not) is garbage. See Andrew T.'s review for the full story, but it's basically a policy dedicated to screwing patrons out of as much money as possible. You'd think a venue trying to attract people to come to a run-down, vagrant-ridden, landfill of a city would try it's hardest to please the people. Instead, they offered tiered general admission ticketing and only allowed certain people to buy certain tickets via certain outlets. Total fucking horseshit. Sad part is, our group of 4 would have probably paid double the face value for mainfloor tickets, if we were even offered the option to buy them. read more

I love it here. The building is beautiful! There is standing room by the stage and then further back on a raised platform which helps a lot with visibility. There are also some tables in general admission. I don't know what it's like in the balconies but they have two of them and somebody stood by the door with a sign that said you could upgrade to main floor if you wanted. I stood up front and the security guards were cool as hell. They looked out for us and kicked out any assholes that came up trying to take advantage of the place we were standing and in my opinion this was key to our good time. They also seemed to actually enjoy the show which I thought was neat because you can tell it's not their type of music. The only reason they lost a star is because their staff outside were less desirable. The guys were snarky and sometimes kinda mean to the guests in line. I know its their job to maintain order but it was a little unnecessary. read more

I think this is one of the best venues to see a show in Detroit- The small size guarantees no bad seats, and an intimate experience (not to mention a freaking good time) The theatre is beautiful, though the wear and tear is obvious in a few places. I like having the bar in the theatre- still getting to see the show and get a drink at same time = awesome idea. :) So bad idea was Live Nation buying it and renaming it- Lame. Also lame, the lack of a box office when there isn't a show about to start. I really really really really really really hate paying convenience fees when paying online. Stop making me do it. As a woman who often attends concerts alone- I love the Fillmore. Most of the concerts I have attended over the years here have been heavy metal concerts. I've never had a disrespectful moment from any staff here and always feel very safe. The security is done very well and they keep everyone moving and everyone safe. The parking right across the street is anywhere from $10-15 depending on the lot, but it's 100% worth it for a woman on her own to park there for ease of getting to and from the venue and for security. Artists really seem to love playing the Fillmore and the old-theatre atmosphere lends to the cool factor. The space reminds you a little bit of a similar place- Royal Oak Theatre, but I personally like The Fillmore better than ROT. You can't go wrong with this venue. Love it. read more

Intimate in size, not a bad seat in the house, plus the fantastic ability to gain early access from the bar next door. I've been to dozens of shows at the Fillmore (it's always going to be State Theatre to me), and I like it, mostly. If you get there early enough, you can score free street parking. There are lots of good places surrounding the Fillmore if you want to get your eat/drink on (I like Town Pump or Bucharest Grill). The stage set up and acoustics are good. The beer is overpriced ($9 for a draft beer? Really?) I was there last night for Gaslight Anthem. Dumb dudes started a mosh pit on the main floor. It reminded me that: a. mosh pits are awful b. This place has quickly become a realization of H.G. Wells' dystopian future a la The Time Machine. There's more roped off VIP areas at most shows anymore than "General Admission" seating. OK, not quite, but it FEELS that way - labrynthian with all the velvet ropes. It should be no surprise I suppose - get taken over by corporate a-holes and then NOT squeeze the public for every possible dime by making you think you're not as good as the people paying an extra $40 to not stand next to the unwashed masses, even though it's the same view? Peshaw. Of course the beer is still shit. I expect ridiculously overpriced, but how about some local beer? It's not like Michigan is known for that. Unfortunately I'll still be here several times a year what with the concert promoting monopolies, but I'm going to continue to complain about what a miserable experience it is, because that's all I have left. read more

Really great concert venue located inside what was probably an old time movie palace/stage theatre, There are ornate wall decorations and balconies and I think there is one of those ceilings that look like the night sky (don't quote me on that as I'm going on memory of two months ago). Now, I didn't originally plan on coming here as my tickets for the 26 May Arctic Monkeys show was supposed to be at Clutch Cargo's but that got moved here due to popular demand. I was worried about parking and not too sure about the neighborhood as it was downtown Detroit, a city I had never ever been to before. But it turned out that the neighborhood is in their Theatre District (Foxtown?) across the street from Comerica Park (where the Tigers play, and it was a game day haha). Parking is plentiful, with loads of lots surrouding the block, but on game day it was kind of touch and go but we luckily found a lot that cost only $10 cash which is a bargain compared to the lots in downtown Chicago. OK OK ENOUGH ABOUT THE DAMN PARKING ALREADY GET TO THE REVIEW! We got there around 4:30 pmish and we were told the queue was actually across the street, which was extremely annoying because it was a cold windy rainy day and everyone was exposed to the elements. Other than the homeless guys telling you their life stories to try and get donations and the annoying sax player who kept performing TV theme songs, it was fairly painless (except for the rain and cold). Security was excellent keeping them at bay. They do have some VIP thing where if you pay extra you get in earlier but that didn't seem to matter for this show as I was 8th in line and even tho the mister got practically strip-searched at the door, we managed to get second row centre for the entire gig. Even that close up, the sound was very good, it was the first concert EVER that I left without feeling like I had cotton in my ears. All in all I enjoyed the show at The Fillmore and if I need to ever go see a show in Detroit, I would definately recommend as a venue. Oh and super-mega-fun-happy bonus: The State Bar is right next door, perfect for pre-and post-lubing. read more

For those who aren't sure whether to get main floor or reserved seating... Saw Foster the People here on 6/17/12 and they put on an amazing show. We had seats in section Box F which is to the left of the mezzanine. The seats were higher in the air than I would've expected but you have a great view of the stage and the seating is very spacious. Any seat in this area would have a great view. I also purchased main floor tickets because I couldn't decide which I wanted more. We sat in our seats through the first two bands, then made our way to the main floor for the first five songs of Foster the People. The main floor is a completely different experience. If you feel like you need to be close to the band general admission is definitely the way to go. I enjoyed the time we spent down there dancing among the crowd and being more intimate with the show, but after five songs of bumping into people and encountering some pretty obnoxious drunks I was definitely ready to go back to our seats where fans were dancing and having a great time as well. I felt like with Foster's sound floor would be better because I would want to be moving and grooving to the music, but found that I had no problem doing that in the mezzanine area. All in all, either seating method is fine. I prefer reserved seats but it was nice to get close up as well. I would have a hard time standing in general admission through three different bands. It was pretty crowded on the floor and if you want to get close to the stage you will definitely be rubbing bodies with a ton of strangers. We hung out towards the back of the crowd where there was a little more breathing room. I also had a chance to check out the balcony area and that seating looked very good as well. Really not a bad spot in the house. Great venue!! By the way, good luck trying to sneak anything in the place. They split guys and girls up when you walk in and pat guys down. And a large beer was $9, yikes!!! They also offer a bottomless soda for $6 which isn't bad. read more

I recently was here for the NOFX & Anti-Flag show (which was effing UH-MAY-ZING, in case you wanted to know, and I'm sure you did!), and it was my first time seeing a show at THIS Fillmore (I'm from the SF Bay Area, my idea of "The Fillmore" is the one in San Francisco, not the one in the D). Okay, first off, this place is freakin' gorgeous. Absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. I loved it. I'm also a nerd for architecture and anything even remotely historic. So there ya go. I liked the fact that there's a ton of parking in the area, too, and if you're willing to walk a mere block, you can save yourself $10 and pay $5 instead of $15 to park in a (mostly) attended lot. If you're really that worried about leaving your car, though, just pay the money and park in the closer lots/garages. The security folks were courteous, which was a surprise for me - I'm used to security at concert venues being douches. So +1 for that! The acoustics were pretty damned good (and definitely better than at the Palace) - I didn't have any issues hearing the bands over their instruments, and their wasn't too much reverb or distortion (other than what was supposed to be there, of course). And since we old man'ned it up and had seats up in the Mezzanine area, we got the lovely treatment of having tables between our seats and a freakin' waitress that took orders for the bar and brought us our drinks - HELL TO THE YES, MY FRIENDS! The seating in the Mezzanine was pretty empty, too (they allowed folks from Mezzanine to go downstairs to the floor freely, but not the other way around), for most of the show, which was awesome. Overall, I enjoyed my time at the Fillmore. Would I go back again? Probably. It'd have to be a really great performer for me to go back (NOFX & Anti-Flag put on a bad ass show, so I'd see them effing ANYWHERE), because I'm not a huge fan of the crazy Ticketmaster/LiveNation fees. And I prefer smaller venues, generally. But hey, I'm a weirdo like that. read more

I am a fan of this place. I have been coming here since I was a teen, and have had some great times here. I highly recommend the private balcony seats if you can get them, it is much easier to get a drink and a lot less commotion. I have a kind of love-hate relationship with the Fillmore, but 85% of the time it's sunshine and rainbows so it keeps me coming back. I've been here for countless events and shows and it really is a spectacular venue that I always have a good time in. The inside is gorgeous and set up to cater to any show whether it be an intimate acoustic set or Marilyn Manson's crazy crowds. It's always a fast venue to get into, their security is fast and you won't be out in the cold long (they do confiscate keychains and grill you about prescription bottles though, be warned). Random, but I love the bathroom set up here. There is never a crazy line and they aren't that bad. Also: Coat check. This is a huge plus. The bar also serves drinks fast and you won't have to kill yourself to get their attention. Cons: $18 for two beers and they confiscated my favorite non-lethal key chain at the door. Besides that I'd pretty much recommend this venue to anyone. Just remember to leave your awesome keychains at home. read more

Five stars if I were younger, I suppose. But I was curious to see Jack White in Dead Weather (performing in his home town), since I like the White Stripes but had never seen them. It was a late effort for a 60 minute set. Plus, the Fillmore holds approximately 2,000 people and it wasn't filled. Sure was LOUD. But cool old theater built in 1925 located in the Palms Buidling. I saw Count Basie here in the 1980's. So, it was sort of fun to be back. read more

If nothing else I love this place because this is where I saw Chimaera, Killswitch Engage and DRAGONFORCE(!!!!!!) perform. Of course, if you don't live in Detroit it was a little hard to find, we got lost twice, but that isn't really the theater's fault, now is it? It was pretty clean, well organized, and setup well for the number of people that were milling about for that sort of concert. The bar was located in a perfect place, there was seating for those that didn't want to join us in our little mosh pit, and though it was warm, it wasn't overly hot. This was my first time seeing a show at the Fillmore. My friend and I had a great time seeing Babymetal here. The inside of the venue is beautiful and the acoustics were much better than I expected. We were initially put off by the seemingly questionable parking situation. The venue is surrounded by gravel parking lots where you can haggle with attendants for prices between $10-$15 (cash only). I was worried my car wouldn't be there when I got back, but *spoiler alert* it thankfully was. Regardless, I was uneasy in the back of my mind throughout the show. The doors were to open at 7pm and we got in the line at 6:30pm that was at that time extending to 6 blocks away, wrapping around some of the aforementioned parking lots. We got in and settled into our spot to watch the show by around 7:20ish. That was after we got thoroughly patted down. I have been to a lot of concerts and venues and I can only recall being patted down that thoroughly on a couple other occasions. The concert did not start until 8:30pm, which was very surprising. Typically, I would expect that the door to start duration be only an hour. This does it for the negative though. After settling into our spot, we had the opportunity to marvel it the beautiful venue. The setup is pretty genius. There are tiers for those sitting, but also for general admission. The floor in front of the stage is a reasonable size. The next tier up is almost level with the stage and gives an excellent view. There are also 2 tiers ascending beyond that, which lead to the bar. The stage is flanked with sculptures of suits of armor and the vaulted ceiling is beautiful. As I mentioned before, the acoustics were solid. I have been to similar venues where the sound has not been anywhere near as good. The staff was generally very nice, even with the mob of peculiarly dressed concert goers. I will be coming back to this location as soon as I find another band I like on the schedule. read more

Okay, there is already the Fillmore East and Fillmore West (not to mention a handful of other Fillmore's across the country. Couldn't Live-nation give us a cool name for the once state theater that made it special to Detroit. Nope, I guess not. I came here to see Stone Temple Pilot not too long ago. I'm not sure if it was the fact they went on nearly an hour and fifteen minutes late when I could have been seeing Death Cab next door at the Fox, or the fact that the sound from where I was standing really was that poor. I honestly felt like I was at a bar standing with a bunch of people and some band was playing in the background- not like I was at an STP show! And we were standing right in front of the bar on the first level-- balcony overhead yet still behind us. come on.. I know Scott Weiland is a little tattered these days, but relive your youth and get into it. I couldn't. and I wasn't going to. After about 6 songs, I was so disappointed with the sound quality I decided to leave. Luckily my ticket was free. read more

An okay to decent venue that draws big names. From Bassnectar to Deadmau5 to LCD Soundsystem to Ben Folds. You'll find all types of music here, but the beer will always be expensive, the (liquor) drinks will leave something to be desired. The crowd will generally be very large, the venue usually crowded. Pros first, I guess. The sound here is always amazing. I don't think I've seen a show here and been like "Hmmm, ah yes, this is terrible". Compared to lots of other venues I've been to, its a freaking dream. The service at the bar is always very attentive, I've never actually had a problem with that. They have a smoking area, so they aren't St. Andrews or the Majestic. Cons, and there are a few. This place gets crammed and general admission isn't always strictly enforced, so the main floor can get pretty nasty. The beer is really ridiculous, with a 24 oz running you like $8. Their liquor'd drinks are sometimes strong, but kind of bank-breaking at $10. I may be off on the numbers, but only by a buck or two. Still stupid-expensive. Sometimes they don't allow you in to the State Bar, which actually has decent beer (aka non Budweiser products). Parking can be a total ass-pain if there is something else going on, such as a Tigers game. Overall, its an alright venue. I usually only go about 2-3 times a year, for big names I haven't been able to see before. I bring way too much money and leave with way too little, but it comes with the territory. read more

I have been to a lot of shows here and It's definitely one of my favorite venues. The sound quality is incredible. My preferred spot here for seating is mezzanine and I always try to choose that area when buying my tickets. The row/section I like best in mezzanine is either the corner box section or the first row. The balcony seating that is one level above mezzanine is decent too, but it tends to get hot up there. The main floor is hit or miss depending on where you stand and the type of crowd the band draws in. I feel that mezzanine is hands down the best spot that gives you a full view. You can also really appreciate the beauty of the theatre when your sitting up there as well. I had main floor to see Flogging Molly this past weekend and their live performance was great as always, but I could hardly see anything. It was frustrating to try and move around a sea of people who are taller than me, and blocking my view! Not to mention I was bumped into just hard enough to splash my $9.00 beer each time I wanted to take a sip! It was actually pretty funny because I think the floor had more beer than I did! The Fillmore is decent with everything else it offers. If you smoke they still have that tiny roped off smoking section outside...so glad I quit and don't have to deal with that anymore. The bathrooms are pretty clean. You don't have to flag down the bartenders attention when you want a drink. The place is usually well staffed. There is also a small concession and your options are: soft pretzels, hot dogs, chicken tenders, waffle fries (these are actually crispy and satisfying)...you get the idea. The concession pricing is $4.00 to $6.00. Drinks are high priced so minus one star for that; my boyfriend was forking over a $20 for two beers. Also, If you arrive early and want to wait in the State Bar instead of the line outside there is no advantage to getting in the theatre any earlier. But it still beats waiting in the cold! read more

I can't say whether the Fillmore in Detroit has any affiliation to the legendary '60's Fillmore(s); one thing is certain: the Detroit Fillmore looks fabulous! Although it doesn't have the groovy interior and psychedelic posters the West and East coast Fillmores had, what it does have is that old robber-baron-tycoonish style popular in Detroit from around 1890 to 1930. Certainly, the Fillmore isn't purpose built. Can't say much about it's history, appears to have been an old concert hall or theater - so that's pretty close, and it's current business owners haven't done much to change the ambiance, which makes seeing modern bands like the Stone temple Pilots and Motorhead just a wee bit eerie. There's a section of the lobby's walls festooned with photos of all kinds of musical acts; some of the photos look very old; can't say if they've all played at the Fillmore, not knowing much about its history, but it's still interesting to look at. If you're an architecture buff, or interested in music biz history, checking the Fillmore out for its own sake could be worthwhile. From my understanding of the Fillmore website, they will also host special, private events during the interstices between shows. Being a '60's junky, anything named Fillmore is a natural magnet for me, so I've got enough shows there under my belt to think of myself as a sort of denizen. On the other hand, in spite of my interest in seeing musical acts, I'm not very musical myself, so I can't say much about the acoustics of the joint. Heck, some bands, like Motorhead, are so darn loud I would guess that acoustics isn't all that important. Don't get me wrong: the noise level isn't always loud, crushingly, overbearing; it depends upon the band to a certain extent. If you're particular about seating, general admission, etc, I'd check ahead if I were you; it's been my experience that seating arrangements can be capricious. If you're thirsty, and need to wet your whistle, you can always check out the Fillmore bar. Not sure about its status for all ages shows; might be Shirley Temple city when the underage set is about. As for parking, well, that depends....on how many people show up! Sure, there's lots of street parking, just when you've got 10,15 thousand people or so, or whatever, then it can get dicey. My friends and I found ourselves five or six streets away a couple times, which ain't too fun in six inch heels. We managed. Overall, I'd say it's the name: the Fillmore - which gets me going to this place. Along with the name , it's that robber-baronish style that gives the place some classiness, so I guess, in spite of seating sometimes being an unpleasant surprise, the Fillmore is a cool place to catch a show. read more

I recently attended my 2nd show at the Fillmore this past weekend. The place is really nice inside and I had a great time during the show.....HOWEVER They decided to do pat downs on everyone...okay fine...how about having more than 2 guys to do 2000 people? The line to get in wrapped well around the block and the weather was pretty crappy. Everyone in line was complaining. Either get more people to do the pat downs, get metal detectors or drop the pat downs. It left a really sour taste in my mouth. I went to the Fox Theater the night before for another concert, they had metal detectors we waited at most 5 mins from getting into line to being inside the venue. read more

I'm probably too old to be going to concerts at the Fillmore, but hey, I love live music so I find myself here pretty often. The good - they bring good acts here - Just saw the Avett Brothers here and it was my favorite concert this year. The space is nice, it's a great venue for people watching and listening to the bands. There are plenty of stalls for the ladies in the restroom, so no big lineup waiting to 'you know'. Had general admission tickets so had to stand all night, positioned ourselves near a railing one step up hoping to be able to see and avoid the crowd on the main floor. Worked pretty well, albeit we had a few drunks invading our space, but we just gently pushed them away. Security keeps the stairwells cleared and the ushers are helpful in getting you to your seat (if you have one). The bad - you never know what time anything is starting and you may show up for 'doors at 7:30' to find a line wrapped around the building. I went last time at 8 for 'doors at 7:30' and the line was huge. That is no fun when it's freezing out, and since it's Detroit, that happens a lot. You also frequently don't know if there is an opening act - so you're taking your chances if you come a bit later. Drinks are pricey and they could use more help behind the various bars. One person mixing a drink, then charging the credit card seems to take 3-4 minutes a person. The line can get pretty long when that is going on. Tried to get VIP for last concert, they wanted $280 for a 4 top or $140 for 2 of us. WHAT!! We declined and stood all night. I know I've definitely paid way less then that in the past, more like $25 or $30. So, it's a concert hall, you're going to put up with some crap to see some good bands and I like the overall atmosphere inside. read more

I used to have a lot of love for this place (you know, back when it was the State Theater....) but as years go by, my love wains. Tis the fate of all loves, no? So, I'll say what I USED to love, and what has killed it for me. I used to love the caliber of acts that'd come through the venue. There was at least one really kick ass show every month year round without fail. I was also equally in love with the way the theater looks. It looked (and still does) like some Phantom of the Opera house. This really added to the experience of seeing Marilyn Manson there, or Rammstein, or Garbage... etc etc. Now, for what I don't like. I don't like that Fillmore is like, one of the only places in Detroit that's banned smoking indoors. I know, lots of people hating on smokers these days, but seriously. Are you going to complain to the band that their music is loud and damaging your hearing? Or complain about the germs you got from people rubbing up against you on the main floor? I should be able to smoke. Bah. I can deal with security at the front door having those metal detector wands, but once I'm through the door, I don't want to see them again. Still, I always seem to be bumping into some idiot security worker who wants to see my drinking bracelet. Yeah yeah they're there for the a good reason, but do I really need to show it to every worker I see? Has the Fillmore fulfilled some Orwellian 1984 dream? I'm there to see a show, not to talk to security. And after reading their EXTENSIVE list of rules (which rivals that of DTE Energy Music blah blah) they state that: Guests appearing impaired by alcohol or drugs will be approached by Detroit Police or Security Staff. Hah! Speaking of shows... it seems like they've tapered off as the years tick by. Now, I did rattle off some bands earlier, but I really have a wide taste in music. That being said, either I'm getting too old to like what the young folk like (not bloody likely) or Fillmore's booking agent is slipping in HIS old age. Oh well. If a band you like comes here, then what can you do? But I wouldn't suggest going here just on the merit of the venue itself, because it has fewer merits than it did years ago. Sigh. read more

Watched Kaskade here on Aug 4th. It's a pretty pretty venue and awesome to watch shows. The only thing that sucks is that it closes at 12am. Shows don't last longer than that. I suggest you get there early so you dont miss any part of your concert! I came at 1030 thinking Kaskade would come on super late and play til 5am. NOPE, we only got to see him for an hour and he had already been on for an hour. So sad...:( read more

I have been here a couple of times for comedy shows and really like the venue. The first show was the Dave Chapelle show, I'm personally not a fan, but it was a nice venue. The second show I attended was Nick Offerman, and he is HILARIOUS! For the first show we were pretty close to the stage and they had used the chiavari chairs. I personally don't find these comfortable and would prefer bigger seats so there is a little more personal space. For the Nick Offerman show we were, no joke, the last seats in the very back. Literally the top row of the entire building. Beautiful venue!! If your ticket says general admission... it's not just talking about the front of the stage. Balcony seats are hard to come by if you're looking for 2 or more together. Great sound in the whole theater. It's beautiful with its 1920s art and architecture. read more

This used to be one of my favorite venues back in the day when it was the State Theater. We always knew we could get there a little early, grab a spot behind one of the railings, and be able to see the show without being trampled or have a blocked view from a tall guy who would inevitably stand directly in front of me on the main floor. For some unknown reason, they had reserved tables set up where we usually stand, so all of the railings were off limits. To make it worse, they wouldn't let anyone stand on the stairs, so I could not see anything. I complained to the manager, and she agreed that it wasn't a good way to set up for a concert, but supposedly the band requested it that way. She gave me two free drink tickets, which did nothing in the way of helping me enjoy the concert or make up for the loss of the ticket price because I couldn't see any of the show. Too bad I wasn't there just to listen. The band sounded great. For all I know, they could have been lip syncing, because I couldn't see them. Whenever you go to see a concert at the Fillmore theater, like any theater it's a smaller space that has a good spot almost anywhere depending on your viewing pleasure. My husband and I ended up seeing Above and Beyond here the other night and what was great about it is that it is walking distance to other bars if you want to pregame or postgame. They had an adequate amount of bars which weren't overcrowded and the ushers were very nice. The only thing is that the floors are so gross only after a few hours into the night, but that can be written off as really sloppy concert goers. It's right on par with the Warfield in SF except they'll make you a long island here. Plus 1 for the Fillmore. read more

I had not been to this venue since it was the State Theater in the 90's. My fiance and I attended the Die Antwoord show, and it was a blast. Took the people mover from the hotel to right near the venue. First, the line was long, but it moved fast. The security was tight but friendly. The drinks we're pricey but that is what I expect. The venue is FANTASIC. Awesome old room with grace and style. We played it safe, being an all ages show, and opted for the back of the first balcony. Our seats were close to the restrooms (which were clean), and the bar. However, the sound was so good, that our ears were still ringing when we got back to the hotel. Die Antwoord was rad. Also, watching the crowd pour out onto to Woodward after the show was awesome. read more

My experience at the Fillmore was decent. I drove several hours for an event that turned out to be more popular than I thought - there was a line winding down the street and over several blocks. We were not allowed into the venue at the time the 'doors opened' according to the tickets - we were stuck outside (in the cold) for nearly 45 extra minutes. By the time I got inside, it was standing room only. We managed to find a decent spot with a decent view. The show was billed as a Jason Mraz show but the obnoxious opening act (Matt Nathanson) actually played longer than Jason. I would probably go to another show at the Fillmore but only if I was in Detroit for another reason. read more

My friend and I were able to snag tickets to go see the Saved by the 90's concert and wow, it was a great time! Yes, parking was expensive and if you wanted to park in an actual garage it cost us about $30 to do that, but that's to be expected when you are in a city like Detroit, especially when it's so busy on the weekends. Anyway, we got to the Fillmore and got inside and went straight for the bar. They have a pretty decent list of drinks to choose from! I will say that their prices are definitely ridiculous. It cost us $28 for two drinks! We got double shots and I'm pretty confident it only had one. Anyways though, the venue itself is absolutely stunning in every kind of way and being able to look at all of the structure work is just fun to do! The staff was excellent and were willing to help out with any questions we had. Even though prices are a bit high, it is a wonderful place to have a concert and I will definitely return! read more

Good small concert venue, The State Theatre. I hate when the names are changed for no reason

My daughters and I attended a Yelp event at The Fillmore called Saved By the 90's. When we arrived, we attempted to park near Comerica Park. The two lots had different prices. The one on the right was $20, the one on the left $25. Of course we went to the $20 lot. We were asked if we were there for the show at The Fillmore. When we said yes, we were told we had to go park in the $25 lot. It was $5 bucks but it didn't start things off great. After parking we walked across the street, we noticed a couple of fire trucks outside of The Fillmore and a line of people waiting across the street to be allowed in. We arrived at 7:55pm, doors were supposed to open at 8pm. We went to Will Call to get our tickets. I bought one extra on Ticketmaster. The Will Call Staff was quick and professional. We were told it would be about 5 minutes for the firemen to give the all clear. We were already cold. One of the security members said we could walk to the Fox Theater and wait in the lobby to stay warm. We tried that but were turned away because they had a show starting. We walked back the The Fillmore. It had been more than 5 minutes. The firemen were packing up to leave. Security directed us to go across the street and wait in line. We did. It was very cold outside. About 8:10pm, some staff members told the crowd they will try to get us in at 8:15pm. The fire alarms went off again and the firemen had already left. At 8:20pm, more staff members came by handing out drink bracelets for those over 21 (this was an 18+ event). It was getting too cold so we walked back to our car to wait. We were finally let in around 8:35-8:45pm. Once inside, it smelled like burned plastic. We went through Security. Good quick process. I thought our event tickets came with free drink passes so I went to the bar to ask how we get the drink passes. They sent me back to the door person. The door person didn't know and a manager approached us to offer assistance. He told me only VIP tickets came with drink tickets but said we could go upstairs to the VIP area. I bought a beer, 24 oz for $11 + tip. A bottle of water for my daughters was $3. We found a great spot in the VIP area that we could dance without a crowd. The staff was quick and help. The show was fun with a talented band and dj. We danced the entire night and had a great time. I haven't been to The Fillmore since the 90's. Let me say that it has gone through some beautiful renovations. It is definitely not the dump it used to be. It was so pretty and appeared clean. Bathrooms included.
