The Fire Restaurant was not my first choice to have a meal in but since my wife and I were on foot while our car was being repaired,but it was the only thing open at 3:00 pm in that area so we decided to try it.--bad mistake --My wife ordered the fried shrimp basket while I ordered the shrimp and chicken basket ,the fried shrimp had way too much batter (even though the server told us it had very little batter) and the shrimp was not cooked done, the shrimp sauce had a hair in it, the hushpuppies were raw inside, the server did not come back to ask how our meal was. We ate the three chicken fingers which were not bad. The wine was good. Needless to say that we will go hungry before going back there. Had a fabulous dinner with my sisters and daughter. My steak tips were very good. Service was quick and prices are very affordable. My only complaint is I am not "honey". The food was just OK. Ordered a burger medium rare came back well done. Grouper had good taste but with fish sometimes you get bones. Not a fan of bones. The cole slaw came in a thimble. Two bites and done. The salsa was ok but bland. Service was horrible. Maybe because we were on the patio. But still no excuse. I came in for dinner expecting great service from the good reviews. What I ACTUALLY got was a rude host, Leah, and a terrible server. She rolled her eyes at me when I told her i preferred a booth. When she finally complied, the table was still dirty. She acted like there was nothing wrong with crumbs and sauce on the seat and table. Our server Demetrius was unattentive, my wife had no refills for our entire sitting. I had to basically track him down to tell him when we were ready to order, and ready for our bill. My steak was undercooked, but at this point I just wanted to eat my food and leave. Do not recommend. I think they need to reevaluate who they hire, as well as the prices for how poorly tasting the food is and how horrible the service is. read more

Since we moved to this town, we have asked for recommendations for where to go out for good food and atmosphere, Fire had been mentioned several times. So we finally went to Fire this past weekend and we both went home disgusted and disappointed. First of all, the line of tables next to the bar is TOO CLOSE to the bar stools. Neither one of us appreciated other patrons asses hanging directly in our faces, nor did we appreciate when one guy would get up and down from his bar chair - that look comfy, but are far too big for that seating arrangement near tables - he would knock into our table. Unless you purchase a decent bottle of wine, don't bother with the house wine. It's overpriced for the quality and quite frankly you can get better by purchasing the cheapest wine at Aldi. The appetizer - fried pickles - was okay. We've have worse and we have definitely had better. My husband chose to have the scallops and I chose to have the fish over potatoes. My husband said the scallops were "okay", but slightly overdone. My fish was dry and the whole meal was tasteless except for the overbearing salt they used on it. There are many good restaurants in this town, this is not one of them especially not for the price. We aren't the type of people that eat at chain restaurants, but quite frankly, Chili's and Olive Garden would have been better than this meal. So if you like butts in your face, bar chairs hitting your table and sort of okay food for the money, you will love this place. If not, there are a lot of nicer and higher quality restaurants in the area to visit. Just walk up and down the Central Ave, you'll find them. read more

Unfortunately I have to give them a star but if I could give negative stars I would. Service was terrible from the beginning. I asked for limes and they brought them on a paper napkin instead of a dish. My boyfriend and I ordered a salad with Ahi Tuna, which is supposed to be blackened, and it wasn't. When we told the waitress she went back, spoke to the owner or administrator and came with a plate asking us to take the pieces of tuna out of our plate and put them in hers so that she could take it back to the kitchen to have it recooked! It is the first time that I see this type of treatment in a restaurant. When we explained that we did not want the tuna recooked cause it was going to loose the characteristics of Ahi Tuna, the waitress went back to ask if they could prepare another one. By this time, my boyfriend and I were very disappointed and decided to leave. Obviously we did not eat the salad, we just had divided into two plates. The biggest and most disappointing part was that as we were getting in our car the administrator came out to charge us for the salad and the badly prepared Ahi Tuna that we did not eat! We told her we were not paying for it and her reaction was taking a picture of my license plate and laughing in our face. She insisted that we went back and she would make everything better but after all the terrible treatment we did not want to have anything to do with them. My boyfriend went back in the restaurant to talk to the owner about the administrator's actions and bad management and the owner didn't even show his face to apologize or even talk to us about the whole incident. It was an extremely disappointing experience. We will not be going back to this restaurant and will definitely talk to all friends and family about it. By the way, if you want to share a plate they will charge you $4 for dividing it into two plates, so if you still decide to go and enjoy their terrible customer service, be aware of that. read more

Do not waste your money. Wait staff is immature, uninformed, and just plain incompetent. I had a beautiful filet that was wonderfully presented, but miserably prepared. I felt like this restaurant was having an identity crisis. Are you a sports bar or a high end steakhouse? It's trying to be both and not in a way that works. The setting is very casual but the menu offerings try to be high end. We were there on a holiday and there was a special prix fixe offering. It came with a palette cleanser course. We've had that before on cruises but we're very surprised at the shot of rum at the bottom of the sorbet. Our steaks and shrimp were decent and the server was very nice. You need to pass up this restaurant. We drove from Bradenton to Winter Haven to take our daughter out for her 29th Birthday dinner. What a HUGE disappointment and waste of money. All three of us ordered the steak...and ordered all 3 rare. None of them were grilled rare, but grilled medium. My husband and daughter were starved and kept theirs and I sent mine back. They brought out another one that honestly looked like it had been boiled. It was so tough that I could not cut it in half. So.....I sent that back. I then ordered the grouper and by the time it came out, everyone was finished with their meal. The grouper was to say the least mediocre. The 2 steaks that my family ordered came with what looked and tasted like canned corn tossed under the steak. I think that they thought by putting bacon bits in the corn, it would improve the taste. My steak came with a sweet potato that looked like it was left over from lunch. It had been warmed for so long that the outside peel was falling off and black. I asked to see the manger and to my surprise....he or she never came to our table! They did however, comp our beer and my daughters martini. We will never set foot back in that restaurant. I walked in here to have a bite on a Saturday night while in Winter Haven waiting for my daughter's school dance to be over. Cheesy entertainment this night, but I see that some of the better bands in Polk County play here. A bar atmosphere, I figured I would order a burger, wasn't expecting much, but you can't go wrong with a burger. Perusing the menu, however, I was intrigued. Mahi, seared tuna, lobster sauce. Someone in the kitchen is very creative. I ordered the Charred NY Strip, sweet potato, and vegetables. The steak was absolutely amazing! I love my steak charred, typically order "Pittsburgh". I could have cut this steak with the edge of my fork. The rub was delectable. Can't say enough, better than any steak I have had at Capital Grille, Fleming's, Ruth Chris, etc. Giving 4 star, as there are some small things that could make this place fabulous. Substantial silverware, better entertainment. Can't help but think this place would be full of people, if they had a better online presence, but I'm looking forward to my next visit very soon! read more

We went here on New Year's Eve 2013. The food was excellent with extremely tender steaks and fresh vegetables. The service left something to be desired having to ask several times for drinks and then waiting 40 minutes for my bill. As my husband went in to pay for our drinks and politely explain that we would just go elsewhere, our food appeared from the kitchen. We went ahead and stayed since we were hungry. Overall, we were not very happy with our experience at Fire. We were in a group of 6 people, and they put us in a large round booth, which was great. Our server was not very personable and it took a long time for her to bring our drinks. We even observed that several times she visited the bar and left our [ready] drinks sitting there. Each time she walked by our table, she wouldn't even look in our direction to see if we needed drink refills. We were drinking alcohol - if she had been on top of things, our tabs would have been double what they were, and her tips would have reflected it. She did not clear our plates in a timely manner, and when she did she would only take one or two at a time. My friend's dirty plate stayed in front of him the entire length of our stay. The food was delicious, but there is a $2 upcharge to each meal if you want a side other than french fries. Sorry, but my burger was already over $15; and in 2017 when people are trying to be more health-conscious, more options should be available for free. Not to mention that the waitress did not advise said upcharge, so it was a "lovely" surprise once I received my check. My husband ordered chicken and waffles and was extremely disappointed. The waffle was a store-bought Eggo, and on top of it were 3-4 kid-sized chicken tenders. He was finished with his dinner before most of us, and his was priced at over $15 as well. At that price, how hard could it be to use a waffle iron and make waffles upon order? After sitting for a while longer waiting for more drinks, our server returned to ask how we wanted our checks. She never asked if we wanted any more drinks or dessert, she was ready to get us out (there was a live band, so we would have stayed and drank). SO we paid our bills, left shitty tips (sorry), and went to a bar down the street for the rest of the evening. None of us were impressed, and we most likely will not return. Sad to say but this used to be our favorite place. Upon arrival we wait for someone to finally notice us. Service has also become just enough to get by. Never same staff. The last 3 times they have been out of something on the menu, had to ask for bread and they no longer have the nice,cozy booths by the bar. They have been replaced by hightops. Before it was a nice mix of both bar or a nice evening out. Now just geared towards the bar scene it seems. What a huge disappointment. We came upon the restaurant , by accident,...and the best accident we ever had. The food was so delicious....generous portions, I couldn't finish mine...had to take some home. The atmosphere was cozy, even though it is a fairly large place. The wait staff was very friendly and courteous.....and the price was very reasonable, considering the portions of food offered. We were visiting Winter Haven as a part of a softball tournament for college aged players. We had a great time at The Fire last year...just parents...so asked if they could do a team dinner this year for us. They did and it was great. My wife and I ate at Fire after the Derry Down Event on June 28. As soon as we walked in, the restaurant seemed as if they didn't know that a major event was going on two blocks away and that they should expect to be slammed - which being slammed should be a good thing and they advertised the event on their front door. The waitress automatically apologized to us before we were even seated and said she would do the best she could due to them being slammed, there were even several empty tables. The place seemed as if something was off. I would hope that the restaurant would be better prepared for a Saturday night, especially one where the Main Street Organization did a great job bringing people to downtown. That is what we want after all right, people attending events, shopping and eating at our few downtown restaurants. To wrap this up, the food was decent, the music was great, the bathroom floors were sticky and the staff seemed to be aloof of the great thing of being "slammed". I was really looking forward to eating here after all the rave reviews from friends........what a true disappointment. We went on a Sunday afternoon, around 130pm, very few people were there. We sat on the small patio in the front of the restaurant/bar. It took about 20minutes for someone to take our drink order. While we waited for our drinks, we looked over the menu(it seemed a bit pricey for lunch), but quite a few things sounded really good. We got our drinks and then played the waiting game again! This might be a little more acceptable had it been busy......which it was not. We finally got our order in and waited. I ordered the Santa Fe chicken with a baked potato, my husband had the fish and chips, his mother had the Diablo burger and his father ordered the bacon ranch burger. Nothing too advanced for a kitchen staff serving all of 10 people in the restaurant. About 20-25 minutes later we got our meals and everything looked great......and this is where it went downhill. For $14.79, I got the smallest chicken breast on the planet and the oldest baked potato they had in their warmer! To be fair, the chicken was tasty, just not much of it. The inside of the potato was a dark brown and tasted like it had been burned. The fish was overdone, the ends were actually inedible, fried to the consistency of a rock. The fries were really soggy and very few of them. Just a suggestion.....a change of oil would be in order for the fried dishes. Again...to be fair, the burgers we good. When the waiter finally came back to check on us, I told him about the potato and questioned him about the size of the chicken breast.....remember.....for$ 14.79.....the response I got was......would you like me to bring another potato? Since I was almost done with my chicken, I told him no....that's fine. He then asked.....well.....are you still hungry? He never addressed the complaint at all. The table next to us then addressed the unsatisfactory meal (a steak and fries) they had just eaten. Same complaint on the fries. They requested just their check but when the waiter came back out he told them it had been taken care of.....they didn't get a check. Ummm......were do I sign up for that discount?!?!! I wasn't looking for a free meal, maybe just a small discount for a potato I couldn't eat and a very small chicken breast. But, alas, we were charged the full amount.
