I highly recommend NOVA Fireplace and Stove. Dan the owner and Stewart the salesman provided us…read morebrochures and showed us the gas fireplace inserts that will work in our fireplace opening. Dan made a trip to our house to assess the exact insert and provided us with lots of tips. We immediately placed the order for the Regency Gi33LE the first week in November, with Stewart for the new gas insert inside our current wood burning fireplace. Much to our surprise, they were able to squeeze us into their schedule to have it installed before Thanksgiving! Dan and his crew professionally installed a new gas line/pipe and dedicated electric circuit inside our house for the new insert and arranged with the Town inspector to obtain permits and inspection. All went exceptionally well. Dan is incredibly knowledgeable about home construction and the gas fireplace products and business. On a scale of 1-10, I rate him a 10 on customer service. With the snowstorm on Jan. 25, 2026, we tested the manual turn on using batteries in case the power goes out. After the test, the fireplace would not turn back on, so I emailed him on a Sunday morning to see if there was a trouble shoot for this problem. Immediately, he phoned me, and within 5-10 minutes, we started the fireplace with his over the phone directions!! Wow, we were so pleasantly surprised and very much appreciative of his support!! We thoroughly enjoy our new highly functional and esthetic gas fireplace insert and the heat that warms our rooms. We shopped at a couple of local places, and we found NOVA Fireplace and Stove the most helpful for understanding the process, options, and prices. Dan, Stewart, and the installation crew are fantastic!! Plainly said, Dan is an up and up guy.

TLDR: Problems with responsiveness and communication. Unable or unwilling to acknowledge or take in…read morehow they've been treating their customers. Makes me wonder if it's all just an attempt to upsell. Wouldn't recommend. R&M came to my house for standard HVAC maintenance visits in March and September of 2025. They seemed to be reasonably priced. I can't speak to their competence in conducting these visits because they didn't find anything wrong with the system, and it's hard to evaluate their expertise under those circumstances. During the September visit, the technician said that I should have my ducts cleaned at some point during the following year, and that the technique they used would require them to remove all of the registers in the house and probably damage the surrounding paint, requiring repainting. I have been considering moving, and I thought it would make sense to wait on the duct cleaning, since I would repaint the rooms before putting the house up for sale, and any prospective buyers would be happier with vents that had been freshly cleaned. Six months after I was told I should have a duct cleaning within a year, it was time for my spring maintenance again. I called R&M at 1:23 pm on March 26, 2026 using the number I had saved in my phone from calling them to schedule in the past and got a weird automated message before it even rang asking me to tell it who I am so it could see whether the recipient would take my call. I thought there might have been a mistake with the connection, so I hung up, checked the number, and called back about a minute later, getting the same message. I told the automated voice who I was, and waited. Then I was told the recipient wouldn't take my call but I could leave a voicemail message, which I did. I left my name and reason for my call, and told them my phone number twice. When I didn't receive a call back, I thought there might be a problem with their phones, so I looked up their email on their website, and sent an email to their listed address (info@rmaircontrol.com) at 11:42 am on March 31 saying I had left a message that wasn't returned and I wanted to schedule my spring maintenance. I got no response. I wondered if they had closed, so I checked them out on Yelp and saw that they were supposedly still in business. I sent them a message through Yelp at 4:44 pm on April 2, saying I had tried to get in touch previously by phone and email, hadn't heard back, and that I would appreciate a response. Their response at 8:40 pm on April 2, which was forwarded to an old email account associated with Yelp that I rarely use anymore, said that their estimate was $95 and "We have the week available." When I sent them a message a few days later -- HI - Thanks for getting back to me. I'm not sure what timeframe "the week" is. What is the best way to get in touch with you to talk about specific times for scheduling a maintenance visit? Thanks -- they sent a message back at 9:03 am on April 6 that said "I do have availability from next week Tuesday." My reply sent later the same day said, "Do you mean tomorrow the 7th or the following Tuesday the 14th? This is getting to be a frustrating experience. Before we move forward, will you please tell me why you didn't answer my phone call or return my phone message, didn't answer my email sent to the address on your website, and are refusing to give me contact info to have a phone conversation with you about scheduling? This is very a very different experience than in previous years." They said, "We're sorry, but every time we email you back on a response it takes you several days so we do get booked up very fast." They subsequently sent me a message on Yelp alleging that I had never before emailed or called them or used their company for services, which is untrue. I have verified payment to them and an invoice from R&M Air Control. So I sent an email to the same email address I emailed them at before (used the "reply" function) with a copy of my original email to them on March 31 and a screenshot of my cellphone log showing I had called them on March 26. Their email reply (which proves my original email was to a working account controlled by R&M) to me said only "4/14 after 2 address," which is kind of disturbingly incoherent. I'm not sure what this was supposed to mean. They have left me wondering if they are reasonably priced and initially responsive to try to get you to buy a service that costs many hundreds of dollars, only to blow you off if you don't immediately take them up on it, or if they are just extremely incompetent, disorganized, and unable to communicate in any kind of reasonable way with their clients. In either case, I don't recommend them. Can you imagine what it would be like working with them if an actual repair issue arose? I wouldn't want to. I'm frustrated because now I have to look for a new HVAC company, and prices go up the later in the season you schedule this kind of maintenance. Very disappointing.

This serves as a follow up to my review dated on May 22, 2025 entitled "Nice is not "nice"…read moreanymore". I received a letter I received a follow up letter from Commonwealth of Virginia department of professional and occupational regulation. The letter states that no longer has a viable license at present and as a result, they can no longer proceed with my complaint. That is unfortunate. It is important to note that Nice Heating And Air was recently acquired by Michael Bonsby HVAC, Plumbing and Electrical located in Gaithersburg Maryland. During the acquisition process, I have been immediately deluged with repeated calls following up on providing future maintenance services, not acknowledging or responding to my complaint regarding service delivery. I was informed by three neighbors and friends who had cozy maintenance plans with Nice that they no longer provided various paid services for them, and thus their maintenance plans were ended. The referrals mentioned they took it in stride, by the lack of communication, no longer enroll in the new corporate maintenance programs of any HVAC company. Lesson learned.

We knew something could be wrong when their initial quote was over 11k and it magically came down 3k when we said we could do 8. But they charged an additional $1,200 for extras of wall repair and a UV filter. We got other bids around $8k that didn't include the extras so we signed with our preferred vendor, nice. They and all other companies started we needed to use a certain intake company's model, but the day before installation, nice told us it wasn't available and asked for our approval of the "only" other model that fit. Of course we said yes. A week later and we were dealing with a very loud system that didn't keep up with our next door neighbor's system. For a whole $2k less, she had received the replacement model for the one we had both been quoted only days apart from every local vendor. nice went a whole two weeks ignoring us after sending a technician who ruined the wall with terrible quality and left an actual 2" wide, 20" long hole in our living room. He explained he didn't think it was possible to match the paint so he just used white over our yellow. The other technician identified that the required electrical work hadn't been done. He was skeptical that the company wasn't able to source the necessary intake and stated point blank we should not have what was installed by nice. When I finally got in touch with an executive (of marketing, not operation), she told me it was a mystery to her why her company couldn't source what our neighbor received and which he technicians could not make perform. But she pushed back on the performance issues, explaining that by regulation, an AC does not have to maintain 71 or 72 if it's hotter outside. She continued maintaining this as the months have gone by. Today it was 98 outdoors and 78 indoors. In the meantime, more technicians have come from nice. One inspected our neighbor's as if they didn't believe she had a model that performed better than ours. He told us he would advise his own mother to "upgrade again" to that model since ours is both too loud and not performing as expected. But, he told us, the model we have is a good enough replacement so we would have to pay for this additional work. Who accompanied him? Someone from marketing. On another occasion, a technician agreed that our new system should at least perform better than our old one; our old one was actually physically broken at around 20 years old. But this new "upgrade" performs just as well in the heat. We received a letter from Dominion in May informing us that we use more energy than 66% of our neighbors. Nice maintains this is "energy savings" - you run the system more often so a higher price is to be expected. None of this was told to us prior to installation and of course our neighbor with an identical home as ours has none of these issues. We are at a standstill with nice so we're legally advised to take the next step of leaving reviews online, with the BBB, and the AG. I'm embarrassed it has come to this and frustrated by all the extra time and discomfort this has caused. Oh and yesterday nice told me to send them quotes from our own handyman for the drywall work. Did I mention the humidity?
