NICTO used to be great, but now they're horrible. I've hired them many times over the years and they used to always came through, were honest and were great overall. But that's completely opposite now. After hiring NICTO again, this time for my yearly chimney clean, there was an andditional issue found that needed to get done (chimney cap). The owner, Marcos, initially texted me with the part information and said he would check with his supplier and that he would get back to me by a certain date and time. He never did. I texted him again. He never replied. When I just texted him sharing my frustration and that I would be taking my business elsewhere, he replied (and this time in 3 minutes) saying, "Thanks for letting me know." No apology. Nicto was one of three estimates I received for my chimney repair. Baires was the most expensive but still a good price for the amount of work they recommended. Dunn's was the cheapest but it was for less work than I wanted. So, NICTO, like in the fairy tale was just right! And like in the fairy tale their work was a very happy ending. The crew under Marcos was on time and very professional. They covered our deck, put up a scaffolding, ground out the old grout, power-washed the chimney and the dust from the roof. They replaced the crumbling crown and rusted cap. Finally, they waterproofed the entire chimney from the roof up. But that's not all, after disassembling the scaffolding, they throughly cleaned up including power washing the side of the house, windows, and deck to clean off the dust from the earlier grout grinding. Nicto lined a chimney that had not had any work since 1950. It had a variety of issues that made the job a challenge. The team did an excellent job. I had a water leak in the chimney and had Nitco come out to assess the leak and provide a quote to re-mortar the shoulder area of the chimney and also redo the crown. Unfortunately, the repair did not fully fix the water leak. I called and was informed that the owner, Marcos, would come out to assess the problem. He was out here the next day and assured me that he would personally fix the problem and not charge me any extra amount. He came out the following week and repaired the chimney again. This time the leak was fixed. He also noticed that the inside of the fireplace (firebrick) was stained so he cleaned the entire area. The sign of a good company is commitment to fix a problem and this company stood by their commitment. Service is excellent, always courteous and they follow through. We engaged Nicto about 2 years ago, maybe less. The workman took photos before he started the work and after. It was evident that our coverless 45 year old chimney was a wreck. The flue and crown were damaged, chipped and cracked, mortar was missing in between the bricks, the flashing was worn, etc. And we were able to see pieces when they were taken down so there was no doubt. Nicto did a beautiful job with a new crown and flue. They installed a cover to the chimney with a convenient adjustable system for securing and releasing the cap. They did mortar work. They did a neat job cleaning the chimney down to the fireplace (3 stories from the top), and applyed sealant to the exterior brick. But as with anything, sometimes little things can go wrong and that is the impressive difference between a good company and a great company. Doing a good job the first time is very nice but what impresses me the most is how a company addresses a problem and fixes it. Nicto takes pride in their work and company. They take any question seriously and act upon it immediately. We can't say enough kind and admirable things about the how Nicto came through without a hitch. They are honorable and do fine work. You can judge a contractor who works on your house by whether they show up on time, whether they do the work they promised and whether their price was right. You can also judge a contractor by how they react when something goes dramatically wrong. We hired Nicto to make the fireplace in our 100+-year-old townhouse usable, a feat requiring the removal of the old clay tiles and putting in a new stainless steel liner. They warned this was going to be noisy, messy and take a few days because this was 40 feet of chimney, and they were right. What nobody expected was their work fixing the first-floor fireplace would result in damage to the second floor fire place, when broken tiles somehow got stuck, knocking a hole in the front of historic brickwork. They promised to fix the damage, even though it required them being very inventive to replace irreplaceable bricks that had been stained at the turn of the century. Since you cannot find the bricks, the mason same up with a plan to remove a few bricks from high inside the fireplace, where they cannot be seen, to replace the broken bricks, and then you use modern firebricks to fill the gap. They still finished in three days, as they promised, The final price was exactly what we had negotiated,. Best of all, our "test" fire worked perfectly. The company website has a 10 percent off coupon that I discovered only after receiving a written estimate (a free estimate, BTW, which some fireplace companies won't do). The owner of the company agreed to honor the coupon when I asked about it. read more

We just sold our house, and used Nicto Chimney Sweeps to repair our chimney prior to the closing. We were extremely happy with the work they did. Everyone in this company is very customer oriented. I had to leave a message when I made my initial phone call, and really wasn't expecting to hear back. Well, Jennifer returned my call promptly and was able to have someone come out within a day to give us an estimate on the repair work because we were on a very tight time schedule. The estimate from Nicto was very reasonable compared to an estimate from another company. Plus, they went out of their way to make sure the work was done before we went to closing. I am working with Bromwell's on the overall project; and this is the team they sent to do a chimney report. The report indicated that I needed minor masonry work and chimney sweeping. This company was fantastic. Licensed with liability insurance and workman's compensation insurance. Their staff was well experienced. I had them repoint my chimney and build a steel-reinforced cast in place concrete chimney crown. Wire mesh, rebar, and high strength concrete is how to build a crown that will last. Most other companies would not do this because it is much more difficult and time consuming. Many companies use a 'mortar wash' which does not last very long, but it is quick and easy. The form was built in place using several layers of wood, left to cure for several days, removed on the last day, and then everything was chemically waterproofed. They power washed the chimney before and the site afterwards. The office staff communicated quickly with me and were very pleasant on the phone (Carla). Their price was fair and I have no complaints. I had over a dozen estimates for this job. There are many companies in this area, and free estimates for all of them. I eliminated companies who: were not licensed, did not want to use scaffolding, did not want to build a cast crown, did not used concrete, and frankly a few companies were absurdly expensive. They gave me a long warranty, but with this type of crown I am not worried about it. read more

This summer (June 2017) NICTO replaced our chimney. The project involved removing the chimney down to the roof line and replacing several cinder blocks with cracks on the chimney at the base in the garage. We had known for the past several years that our chimney needed major repair. We obtained several bids and found NICTO bid to be very competitive. The workers were very professional and friendly throughout the project. We had many questions as the project proceeded and the project manager was very patient and thorough in answering all our questions. He was also flexible. The workers were very organized, worked efficiently and cleaned the debris from their work. Most importantly, when we had a delay due to threatening weather they were very honest and straight forward with us about how the schedule would be impacted. Any paperwork that needed to be addressed was through the secretary, Vivianna. She was prompt with information and in returning correspondence, took time to explain what needed to be known, and was courteous and pleasant.
