Over the course of the process, I interacted with the entire team - Austin, Crystal, Jordan, and Mike. All of them were responsive, professional, and knowledgeable. The process from start to finish took a bit longer than I expected, but I don't think that was their fault. The stove we ordered took quite some time to come in (which Austin told us was likely to happen), and because of that delay, we had to re-schedule installation once. Also, once the stove was installed, it was clear that a larger surround needed to be fabricated to fill a gap between the stove and the brick. That also took a while to complete, but likely because of the massive snow issues in the area in February. I was not in a hurry, so it was fine to wait. Overall I had a good experience and I would use SOMD again.

We called them back in early september, SMOD Hearth came to service late January, 6 months later. I do not recommend this company, here is why. They called us 4 times to reschedule. Each time they called to reschedule, it was the day before we were expecting them, reasoning was always that they had a technician shortage and the technician scheduled to come out quit. 11 months ago from the date of this review, Austin Tulin the owner states in another low rating review, "We have hired 4 additional individuals in the last 2 months to keep up with demand" fast forward to January 31, 2024. A random midday doorbell rings and at our doorstep is a SMOD Technician, we forgot we had this scheduled since nobody from SMOD confirmed the appointment with us prior to coming. Regardless of the fact, we made accommodations since it was months of efforts to get them to come out. The technician did apologize for the delay in service due him being the only technician doing services and at times is working several hours from early mornings to late evenings, with a full workload due to staff shortages. I, then requested for the technician to notify his supervisor as we waited very patiently for our fireplace to be serviced. That is when I met Austin Tulin, Owner of SMOD Hearth. I explained to him the situation and I requested if there could be some customer service given due to the circumstances. Nothing specific, just wanted him to make it right. Austin then told me he didn't see anything wrong with the wait and multiple cancellations and even accused me of taking advantage of a small business. Austin gave me the option of completing the work and being paid in full or leaving and having the technician disassemble my fireplace, leaving me to find someone else, despite waiting 6 months to have the work done by the manufacturers reccomended technicians. That didn't matter to Austin. We paid him for his services in full, but this was not right in my opinion. Austin Tulin does not care about his customer base and takes advantage that his company is just one of few authorized services for Majestic fireplaces. Austin, plays victim when customers bring issues to him instead of mitigating them. Austin, I kept my promise and wrote you a review. Please learn from this and treat your paying customers better. If this is a representation of how you treat all of your customers, I am sure you treat your employees the same. Which explains your employee retention issue. I also recommend that you give your only technician some relief in some capacity. Final thoughts, you have our contact information. You can still make this right, but if this review is still standing, it is because you failed to do just that.

    I contacted Modern Accent Walls expecting a simple estimate for a project. What I received instead…read morefelt like a time-share style presentation -- complete with a scripted pitch and even a video about the history of their company. I didn't ask for a brand origin story; I asked for pricing and information about the work I wanted done. After sitting through an unnecessarily long sales process, they finally provided a quote that was significantly inflated -- especially considering the scope of the project. The work in question would not take professionals more than a few hours, yet the pricing was presented as if I was commissioning a full renovation. For a company whose sole focus is accent walls, I expected realistic and industry-consistent estimates, not a high-pressure sales tactic followed by a number that made no sense. The entire experience felt less like a customer service interaction and more like an upsell attempt. I walked away with no confidence in their pricing, their approach, or their understanding of a straightforward request. Needless to say, I will not be moving forward with Modern Accent Walls, and I cannot recommend them based on my experience.

The design installed was incorrect and did not match the original plan or expectations discussed prior to the project. After bringing the issue to the owner's attention, I was initially assured that the problem would be corrected. Based on that assurance, I moved forward in good faith. Unfortunately, the owner later declined to fix the issue and did not honor the commitment that was made. To make matters worse, I had to make clear to office rep how unprofessional it was for me to keep calling in order to speak with the owner. I also had to spend additional money out of pocket to clean up after the installation and purchase materials costing $4400 to correct the problem myself. What's most frustrating isn't just the mistake--it's the lack of accountability and follow-through. Mistakes can happen, but standing behind your work and honoring your word is what defines good customer service. I would strongly advise anyone considering this company to not proceed with them.
