Chula Vista Yoga Center had classes that fit well for my schedule while I was in town, so I called it my home studio for the weekend. Signing up for the classes and checking in were a breeze. The studio was gorgeous, and I loved the inspiring wall murals and paintings inside the space. If I was local, I would certainly attend the monthly offerings including workshops, sound healing events, etc. I enjoyed the two classes I was able to take. Both classes were heated, and the teachers were awesome. For my first class I took Andre's Ashtanga class on Thursday at 10:30am. I used to practice Ashtanga regularly, so taking the class was like riding a bike. Andre modified the primary sequence, so I thought it was very accessible to yogis of all levels. The other class I was able to take over the weekend was Jackie's vinyasa flow at 8am on Saturday. She had such a creative, challenging flow and introduced an asana I've never done before. Lastly, customer service was excellent. The two front desk receptionist who assisted me on both days were very friendly and helpful.

They are very nice people- wonderfully patient instructors. Eddie is laid back in demeanor, played reggae music at my first session, but lead us through a demanding and fun workout. Nati and Paulina strike me as maybe more traditional instructors- both leading a workout that was spiritual as well as physically demanding- Nati ends the sessions with a sound bath that is wonderful after the effort. I appreciate all 3 instructors. The studio is the perfect size, has mats and everything necessary for a beginning student (a yogi?). I already committed to going there for the next 3 months- something I hadn't been inspired to do at the other two studios I sampled. Kula means community and I think they've made a nice community here in Chula Vista- even inflexible lawyers like me are welcome!

I'd like to point out that the instructor isn't a medical professional/practitioner nor are they medically qualified to diagnose a child and worse suggest medication to resolve something that hasn't been medically diagnosed. Overstepping boundaries with children are a no-no in my book. If this business has to address medical concerns. Have medical staff. That way HIPAA is not violated. Which is where I will also be reporting this incident. Lastly this didn't happen to my child but the child it did happen to was extremely embarrassed and discouraged from returning. My friend was traveling from far away to attend the class and was running only a few minutes late. I informed Saira ahead of time, but when my friend arrived, the door was already closed and locked, and she was not allowed to join the class despite having paid for it. The reason given was that she did not want the child to run off. I offered a simple solution: I would open the door for my friend and immediately close it so there would be no disruption to the class, but that option was also denied. I understand the importance of maintaining a peaceful class environment, but I felt the situation could have been handled with more compassion and understanding. Unfortunately, the experience left me feeling disappointed and unwelcome. Additionally, the yoga session itself felt quite basic and did not meet my expectations, making the overall experience feel like a waste of my time and money.

Both professors have more than 20 years of experience in BJJ and the owner is a both Muay Thai and BJJ. The kids classes are well managed and very effective and all the kids love participating. The environment here is very family oriented and welcoming, unlike some martial arts facilities that might give a sense of intimidation. A lot of the kids who train here have friends or parents who train as well and despite it being a family oriented environment there are competitors who train here as well. Since opening they've had multiple seminars, guest speakers, in-house tournaments and participation in regional/national competitions. They're expanding and always accommodating to bring people on to the mat. This is an amazing school and definitely worth checking out.

Upon Check-In: - Edge Cycle is inside of RevBody and you'll find a check in desk towards the back. - There can be up to 2 front desk helpers to assist you with check in and sizing if you need shoes! I'd say most of these girls are also Edge riders so they are extremely resourceful. One of the front desk helpers: Stephanie, who is a rider, can help you check in get your sizes and she typically will also help assist you/walk you in 5 mins before class starts to help you set up on your bike! Gear: - You'll need shoes, a face towel and water because the workouts can be intense. They have shoes for rent and they have drinks available for purchase! At Edge Cycle or RevBody! - I'd wear something extremely comfortable so that you're not worried about clothes rising up or if your clothes get too wet; a towel for sure feels like an essential! The Class: - I'd say Edge Cycle has changed in a sense that a lot of classes now implement choreography. Depending on the class, sometimes it can be 8 count or as many as 32 count. It's honestly even a lot for me, but a lot of the instructors are more so encouraging rather than feeling pressure to participate. You made a choice to sign up for class, why not make the most of it? - Music is always so good! Sometimes the room can get REALLY loud, but they have ear plugs at the front desk. Changes: - Edge got rid of their second location in La Jolla so this is the main facility! - The inside of their facility now has up to 29 bikes with mirrors so you can see yourself/fix your form. Overall: I've brought a ton of people to Edge through the years and everyone has enjoyed the class!
