We stopped at this establishment as we traveled thru Abilene for a quick, nutritious breakfast at 10 AM on a Friday. We waited in a long line, while waiting with about 10-12 other parties of 2-3 a family of four walked in & were immediately seated. When asked Hostess proclaimed she doesn't make the rules, parties of four get immediate seating at their other table. As we were seated we found there was an entire room where no one was seated & no reservation sign in sight. When we finally got a seat the real fun began. Our waitress was not an advocate of prices or selection. The service-AWFUL-never got a refill (water no less so wasn't going to cost more), we had the incorrect food delivered & our food was taken to another table, the check wasn't brought in a timely manner, when we didn't want our hash browns & asked for toast the waitress directed us to the menu for a one slice $1.49 option (nope, no substitutes for those hash browns which were on one of our plates upon arrival which wasted food-what if we were allergic???) When we got the check although we didn't order hash browns, additional cost was added for omelette ingredients. We do not recommend this place for service reasons. What a terrible experience! The food took forever to be served. The gluten-free pancakes were tiny and more like the texture of a crepe. The eggs were slimy and cold. Then, to top everything off, we asked them to split the check and were overcharged $16. We were in such a hurry to leave that we didn't notice the mistake until we were already home. When I called to try to get a refund, they said that we would have to come back to the restaurant to be reimbursed if there was a mistake. Forget that! We will never be be back. read more

I have eaten here in the past and the food is average or better however today the service was none existent. We were seated for 10 minutes before a waitress asked for our drinks. We placed our food order at the same time. 20 minutes later we noticed people that were seated after us were eating. We asked the maitre d and she said they were working on it. 10 minutes later the Manager came to our table and said our order had just been placed. He offered to comp our order but we didn't want to continue to wait and left. So if you want average food and have lots of time to waste you can go to The Flipping Egg. Needless to say you won't see us there ever again. read more

Lousy service came here a total of two times having to deal with the same waiter not willing to serve us. The first time we came we could hear the waiters complaining on how they didn't want to deal with a large group. read more

My husband and I went to breakfast this morning and the wait staff were amazing. Our order ticket accidentally fell and they didn't notice it, they put us up front and gave us free cinnamon bites. The manager and waiter apologized so many times but it was so busy and they get hectic in the kitchen. They were so awesome about it and I will be going back. I recommend you visit too read more

Unfortunately, a month after the first review of this restaurant, things have not improved. The wait for your food is far too long. I'm talking almost an hour. There was one large group there at lunch and a few couples, but how long does it take to make pancakes and burgers. The primary problem is the pricing. It's astronomical given your portion size. Everything is extra. No fries with burger- they are extra. With IHOP right across the street, and the folksy Dixie Pig down the road- there's no way this place can stay in business. The help is friendly, which is nice, but if you go away hungry after spending $15 for lunch, there's a problem. read more

I've eaten at the Fliping Egg about 6 times, and it keeps getting better. The breakfast there is always fantastic, it tastes great, and the portions are large. I'm usually stuffed before I finish my plate. The other thing I really like about this place is that it is always so clean inside. They do a good job in keeping the dining room looking good, and the restrooms- which is a huge plus. I don't like places that look dirty. The servers are very good at checking on you, and are friendly. I give it an A+. I own a business in Abilene so I know how hard it is to start a business and get it going, and I think this place is definately worth taking your family to. read more

"Eggs suck meats a Joke you Wait 30 minutes for a five minute meal very Unprofessional and the cost is just Unreasonable for what you get I'd try another place or cook at home" my experience. Thought I would try the place again. Ordered during lunch on a weekday. Place was not full or busy. We had 3 in our party. Had a table in a couple of minutes. Server was not knowledge about the menu. We put our order in. waiter came back to our table a couple times to verify what we ordered. 10 min in we had our drinks. SKIP the coffee, was watered down and not very good. Water tasted good. We sat. waiting. 30 min for simple menu stuff. nothing fancy. The general manager was walking around to other tables doing her thing, talking about how she was a manager at so and so and she is cracking the whip etc. guy came in and seems to have known the general manager, he ordered his typical burger it sounded like. this was about 20 min into it. He almost got his meal before us. I was not please with how long it took. She had come around and told us that what we ordered takes a little longer to cook, would be right out. about 5 min later, she told the table across from us what they ordered takes a little longer to cook. Don't know if they know this but everything they say in the kitchen can be heard in the dinning hall. Heard the "general manager" tell a cook, what about this order where is it, she tells him the order. He says, "I was told to hold on that". she says, get it out the door. 7 min later, our food arrives at our table. Funny. we get our food. looks nice on plate but looks funny at same time. the eggs in the omelet were dry and rubbery, the veggies in the omelet were not very good, the hash was decent, but tasted like it was sitting for a little then warmed up. over easy eggs were over done, bacon half raw. best thing on the plate was a little muffin. Not worth the money. I should have gone to IHOP or Denny's. would have been faster and tasted better. Hell I would have driven to the other side of town to cracker barrel. fastest service we had here was when the they left the bill and picked up my credit card. SKIP THIS PLACE. read more

The flipping egg was a flipping disappointment. Walked in with my 4 year old and infant sons for breakfast. We were seated right away. However it took nearly ten minutes before the waitress noticed she had a new table. We ordered the food and it was okay. Just okay. Nothing great about it. It was filling and tasted like breakfast. The buttermilk pancakes didn't taste anything like buttermilk pancakes, they were pretty boring so was the sausage. Also the table of ten city workers in blue polo shirts and tan pants cussing and talking about women and their wild weekend was a complete turn off as I ate breakfast with my children. Also there was zero background music. So all you heard was these jerks conversation and had nothing to focus on except the slow service. Then to finish off the blah blah experience I was digging in my wallet and a waitress came by and took my plate! I was still feeding the baby off of it. my family has been going to the flipping egg since it opened. Sometimes I even go by myself, I have never had a bad experience UNTIL yesterday. First the waitress Donna was really rude and dismissive and even argued with me about how I wanted MY eggs that I was paying for. I like them to be over medium but then keep them on a few seconds longer to ensure that the white is done I order them that way every time and have never been argued with about it and told well your getting them done. Then she brings me my coffee and my boyfriend his tea and then our food I had ordered extra toast and he got his but I didn't get mine. as she is walking to other tables she said your toast is coming out twice after I had finished my eggs she is at another table and says to me I just saw her put your toast down (it had already been 15 minutes) so I told her not to worry about it since I had finished my food. Mind you I got coffee and had finished my coffee before I got my food. She came to the table and asked my boyfriend after we got food if he wanted more tea and kept touching his arm being all nice to him (guess she thought he was paying) then after when she picked up the check she asked him if he wanted one to go and he told her no and she argued that he should take one to go because they were just going to throw it out and she would hate to see it go to waste. HELLO Remember me the one that is actually paying for this meal and your tip (she did not get 15% because of her ignoring me the entire time, in fact she only got a tip at all because it is common courtesy and I thought I would show her something she didn't show me my entire visit) Because even though I paid more for my coffee than I did my boyfriend tea I was NEVER offered more coffee the entire time we were there and he was not only offered she acted as if it was an insult to her that he didn't want a tea to go. worst experience here ever. I went on Sunday before church, the atmosphere is nice enough and the place appears clean. The food however lacked flavor and some was just awful. First the food took over 20 minutes to come out and there were only 15 other people there and most already had their food. The hash browns were mush and tasted liked burnt paste, the bacon had been sitting in bits of burnt bacon fat waiting to be reheated, the chicken fried steak batter had no flavor except flour and black pepper, same as the white gravy..tasteless. The biscuits were great and the pancakes were pretty good, the eggs were cooked perfectly. After tasting my steak I asked for Tabsco and they don't have that so they brought a knock-off hot sauce...kind of weird for Texas food. Overall not good and I wouldn't not reccommend but I am hopeful they will fix thier issues and serve better food because I don't go to the chain breakfast places. read more

Our first time eating here and the waitresses were very sweet. We have a four year old daughter who cannot tolerate spicy food. We ordered regular hash browns for her and they came with pepper all over them. We asked the two waitresses standing there if we could have some made just plain and their response was, "The owner is in the kitchen and she will probably say no because she will take it as you are trying to change her recipe." A few minutes later she came back and confirmed that the owner refused to make the hash browns without pepper in them. We asked the waitress why and she stated, "everything in this place is NO." She said the owner will not allow them to change anything or put in custom orders, even if it's for a 4 year old little girl who doesn't like pepper. After this the owner began circling our table and watching us like a hawk. This made us very uncomfortable. The food was ok, I've had better pancakes at Cracker Barrel, but I would not recommend this place if you have any expectation of customer service. read more

Have been to the Flipping Egg three times now...I think I have given it sufficient chance. First their coffee is always weak unless you ask for stronger...I have tasted stronger dishwater. Second, we normally have enjoyed the food and service has been...OK. Third, they offer military discount, BUT ONLY if you are active duty in Uniform. So those of us who serve or served (retirees) get no respect..thanks. Fourth - final straw - today. Our waitress (Melissa) never, I mean never checked on us, never refilled an empty coffee cup (I had ONE CUP) and after asking for hot sauce for my eggs...she never brought it. To top it all off after waiting over five minutes for her to pick up the bill & my credit card, she brought me someone else's bill (Sue - at the table behind us), then didn't bother to re-run the the bill, just asked us to scratch out the name (the other person already signed my bill). The $1 tip I left (4%) was really about fifty cents too high but I didn't have change, I wrote on my bill that this waitress needs training (badly). I will never bother to try and find a parking spot there again...haven't figured out why it is popular..the food is good but waitresses are surly and not customer focused. I gave it two stars only because I was feeling charitable. If you don't mind the very limited parking or being treated badly by your server, the food is adequate. read more
