This is my first visit since they've moved to Kernersville. I used to love going when they were at old Salem. You make a reservation online and confirm it with an employee. You do make a deposit if you are doing a tea service. I decided to go here for a Mother's Day tea lunch. We had the full tea service and my son had a child's tea. The interior is cute and I love how all of the China is mismatched. They have a large selection of teas and I chose a rose flavor. It was excellent with just the right amount of floral notes. My son had the birthday cake which had a nice vanilla aroma. Everyone gets their own pot, which is neat. They change their menu every month, but I think my favorites for the May tea, were the tomato sandwich and vanilla scone. The table was set with individual jars of clotted cream. We ordered cucumber sandwiches which were beautiful and tasty. Our server was very sweet. We plan to come back, especially for mom related celebrations. read more

When I heard this place was opening I know I had to check it out. They expanded the patio out and it is a great place to sit and enjoy your pastry and coffee. I got an iced Americano and it is great! They have plenty of flavor shots that you could add in, if flavor shots are your thing. They have a variety of dry baked goods like bread and scones, they also have a baked case with things like cupcakes and cake slices. I tried the almond toast and a cinnamon honey scone. The almond toast was good but had a sweeter taste than I expected, almost like it also had apricot or something with it. The scone was good, it would be perfect with a cup of hot tea. The cupcake was good, I'd like to try out some other flavors. Overall I will be back for sure to sample some additional things! They had quite a few I wanted to try like chocolate croissants and danishes. I have gone back and the peach iced tea and the fruit tart with a chocolate crust were awesome! read more

The Flour Box consistently serves the best bread in town. Ask what is on special, and be sure to try the coffee (Fortuna out of Greensboro). I'm not usually one for frozen drinks, but they make a killer frozen coffee drink that blows the socks off of a Starbucks frappuccino. Ask for it with caramel and whip cream. I can't say enough about this place ! They have truly amazing desserts breads and pastries! You have to try their baguette unbelievably crusty and moist yum. I recently had their pumpkin pie and it was the best I ever put in my mouth. I am a chef in winston salem and I truly appreciate their passion for great food. My feelings were "eh, I could take it or leave it." I purchased an iced tea and a muffin. The tea is advertised as sweet tea, I asked if they had unsweetened, and she told me it was all unsweetened which was confusing. Just put "iced tea" on the sign I guess? Also, the iced tea was overpriced. I was in NYC this summer and the price was comparable to there, and manhattan this is not. The muffin was pleasant enough, but didn't stand out as anything for which I had to come running back. The seating is much improved from Ollie's, as is the good display. I would say maybe I will try the coffee sometime, but with great coffee at a shop more or less across the street, why? Overall I feel indifferent about it, which in a city with multiple coffee and bakery choices isn't the best place on the list. read more

Our favorite place to go on Saturday mornings! Great locally owned and operated artisan bakery. Mila and her daughter are some of the nicest people, and they are perfect to run this bakery/coffee shop. The baked goods are always amazing. The French macaroons are delicious and the scones are always phenomenal. The serve good coffee and are always smiling. They know the products they make and are more than happy to tell you about them. If you're staying at the Brookstown Inn or The Hawthorne, it's amazingly close. You can't miss this place! And if you're local, then you have it made! read more

I love this little bakery!!! It was right next to the hotel we were staying at and we decided to get some breakfast here. The staff is super helpful and friendly. It's not a huge space, but it's small and quaint. I had the focaccia (forgot what type of toppings) and a croissant. I also ordered a hazelnut coffee because I NEEDED coffee that day. The pastries were delicious! Nicely made and FRESH. The hazelnut coffee also hit the spot and gave me the shot of caffeine I needed. If I lived in Winston-Salem I would come here all the time! So I needed coffee and a quick pastry for my daughter before her UNCSA audition... What a pleasant surprise to find The Flour Box. We each had a strong, hearty cup of coffee, and scones. The traditional scone was perfection, but the biggest surprise was the gluten-free Orange cranberry scone...DELISH!!!!! Some of us have no choice but to eat a gluten free life, so on a rare occasion we find treats that are so amazing we go back and buy the rest of the lot to take home and freeze...The Flour Box nailed true taste and texture with these G-free scones! The little bakery is so adorable, as well...a few tables, outdoor patio...perfect to enjoy your pastry, conversion and a good book. I'd give it a 3.5 stars but that's not an option. The place is nice but not a lot of sitting room inside. I think there were about 6 tables but small two sweaters unless you push them together. They have a nice patio outback that will be great when it's not so hot and humid out. A few pastry options, cupcakes, muffins, croissants - all look yummy but I didn't get anything. They did have dog treats as well that I'm sure my pup would love. I had an iced coffee with caramel sauce in it and I wasn't terribly impressed with it. It didn't mix to well, which could've been my fault, but the coffee seemed weak and lacking flavor. Overall good experience but I'll have to try something different next time. read more

Hidden gem of Winston Salem! If you make it over to this side of downtown check out the Flour Box. It is within walking distance of the strollway and the Hilltop House apartments. There is an adorable selection of fresh-baked pastries, teas, smoothies, coffee and more. I had their iced mint green tea which was delicious and refreshing as well as a cherry turnover. They have their own simple syrup and honey to sweeten the tea if you'd like and a microwave to heat up the turnover. This place has limited seating, but it is an adorable place to check out. It was pretty quiet in there and the lady working there was very nice and friendly. If you are into doing homework or reading at cafés this would be a neat place to check out. There isn't much seating, but you could find a nice table by the window. read more

How do I love the Flour Box? Let me count the ways. Croissants, cinnamon rolls, rye bread, some sort of heavenly almond thing, pain au chocolat, more rye bread, something light and flaky with hazelnut....it's all so delicious. And, on Saturday, we discovered they have the best hot cross buns in town. The only con is the lighting...so very bright and florescent....but since I live two blocks away, it's convenient to get the yumminess to go! The outdoor seating is also lovely. read more

One of the best little bakeries I've ever visited ! The black Russian bread is the best ever... Also the sweet potato bread is my favorite. They don't have it regularly but it's worth the wait(request it so they'll make it more often!!) The interior has gotten a much needed upgrade from when it was ollies. I got a load of sourdough bread which they offered to slice it for me which was nice. I wasn't impressed with the bread. I'm not sure if they make their breads there or if they are frozen then baked off but it tasted and felt like it had been frozen at one point. Was not impressed. Might go back if camino is closed one day. read more

Words not often used in the same sentence: whole grain and light. The whole grain croissant was a wonder. Mila has used some sort of sorcery or yeasty magic to make this happen. Though the prices are a bit higher than you might expect to find in this part of the world, it's worth the trip for a special treat. I only hope there are enough folks who can better afford it than I can so that they can keep the doors open. Good ingredients are expensive. I get it. The Flour Box is completely charming inside. Simple decor and quiet and comfortable. But let's talk pastries and service. A small yet lovely selection of breads on top of the counter made for fun choosing. I decided to go simple and selected a freshly made ciabatta for our antipasti nosh fest in a couple nights. The nice lady at the counter mentioned it freezes well and that's important this time around. Since it was my first time I decided to get a croissant for breakfast and a Choco Chunk muffin for my kiddos to enjoy later. That croissant though! It was an Asiago Pepper (as in black pepper). Oh my. So soft and light and delicious. Gah! That beautiful sharpness of the cheese and little specks of black pepper throughout. Light and fluffy. I mean, my mouth waters reminiscing about it. I'll definitely get it again. There's also a whole selection of desserts like Chocolate Truffle Cake, Cannolis, Lemon Bars, Cookies, you name it. Scones, Cinnamon Buns. I love this bakery. All their food is made with unbleached and unbromated flour (this would be a make or break with me). They also have organic tea and a wide variety of other food products. Affordable iced coffee and delicious (and affordable) sourdough. Their chocolate truffle cake will be the end of you! :) Love this place. The pastries are to die for and they kick any other bakeries butts. The barista is great. Space is small but cute. Things are well priced as well! Everything baked daily. Breads are baked daily by original bread baker for Gordan who started Ollies. Always adding new things which is nice to see. They have been making soups and quiche and usually two types of focaccia. They have new deck and more open floor space too. The neighborhood around them should be coming by to support this lovely little bakery. read more
