My first visit about a year ago was meh but decided to give them another shot - in large part because they are one of a handful of places open Sunday morning. Service is excellent and the aesthetic is airy, open, and relaxing. Tried the ham and cheese quiche and the sun-dried tomato scone. Both were tasty. This is actually my second visit to Copain Bakery and Provisions... The first time I couldn't even taste the espresso in my iced oat milk mocha latte with three shakes of cinnamon. I even asked the barista if he remembered to put the espresso in it and he said that he did. I'm not so sure... this time I ordered something different. I asked which flavors of syrups they had and also if they were Housemade. The mark of a true gourmet coffeehouse is housemaid syrups... The girl told me that they don't make the syrups in this location, but at their Charlotte location and they're brought up here. They had the typical ones: vanilla hazelnut and mocha. I chose to get a regular iced oat milk latte sweetened with a little honey with cinnamon powder. The flavor of the espresso is very good and bold and it blended well with the cinnamon and honey. I also ordered two pastries, including A chocolate chunk cookie and a blueberry muffin. I ordered the blueberry muffin because a customer behind me said that the blueberry muffin is his wife's absolute favorite of all the blueberry muffins she's ever had! That sold me on it! The same kind customer mentioned something about a chocolate chunk cookie as he was asking his friend who was already sitting down what he wanted. Again, when I heard chocolate chunk cookie, I had to have one! They had samples of chocolate chip bread that was tasty, but it seemed to have sugar on it which though it is very common in most bakeries I do not prefer. I have no idea why they are putting sugar on top of pastries that are already sweet. It is likely due to the fact that most Americans are addicted to sugar! The complaint that I have is that it took forever for the barista to make my iced latte... I have no idea why... At one point after she had been working on it for several minutes she had to go get more oat milk but before that, I don't know what was taking her so long. Anyway, Copain has a cool vibe and they were playing very beautiful music that suited the vibe very well. The blueberry muffin was tasty and full of fresh blueberries but again it had sugar on top of it! The chocolate chunk cookie was also very large, fresh and soft. It was full of chocolate chunks, and I could even taste a hint of sea salt. Again, it was a little too sweet for me, though. There were several customers in Copain Bakery and Provisions enjoying their coffees and food. They have lots of edible items, including sweet and savory ones sandwiches, salads, croissants, muffins, cookies, brownies... They have ample amount of items to choose from to suit mini a distinct pallet. The service was also very friendly and warm. The prices were also what I considered to be excellent as I paid a total of less than $20 and that included the tip for my two pastries and my 16 ounce iced oat milk latte! read more

My friend and I went to Copain for the first time today. What a joy! I had my eye on the Sun-dried Tomato Scone but asked if they would be able to heat it up. She said of course! I was so impressed by Copain!! From the outside, you wouldn't expect it to be as cute and cozy as it is inside! I went with a few friends and our babies, and we were able to comfortably sit in the back for a good 2 hours. I got the chicken salad sandwich, and it was very good! The chicken salad is made in-house. It had the perfect amount of mayo. The bread was fresh and delicious. The side salad was simple and a nice addition to the meal. This has become our after-church tradition on Sunday mornings. The inside is very chic, with soft French music playing, beautiful tile, and glass cabinets showing absolutely delicious and tempting pastries. Even the bathrooms are chic. We have sampled a lot of their food offerings, including multiple croissants, biscuits with bacon, egg and cheese, ham & brie croissant, and a donut. NOTHING has disappointed. This is such a high end coffee shop, the shop looks so fancy! I ordered a cold brew iced coffee with Vanilla and Lavender. Oh my delicious cup of java! They have so many options for pastries and bread! Decided to get the tomatoes basil scone and a almond croissant. Almond crossiant, have such a great flaky texture, almonds on top with powder sugar. Delicious. Tomato basil scone, has pieces of tomato in it and is not salty at all. Both are so well made! The ladies were lovely there and was patient with me( this is my first time here). There's plenty of parking since there is a parking deck also. Great stop after leaving the social security office on this rainy day. Highly recommend this place, if you need to sit back to work online or to meet up with love ones. This is one of the largest coffee shop I've been to so far, lots of sitting as well. It has been a while since my last visit, I am happy to see their butter croissant is better than last time, its shape shows the height and volume of a good airy, buttery and flaky croissant. I also like their fregola salad, a nice balance of tanginess and freshness. I still stand my previous opinion on coffee, not whoa it is ok. This place represents a great addition to the WS bakery scene, in fact there is probably only one that can top the quality and variety offered here. Copain Bakery was begun in Charlotte in the early 80's by J. Basul Noble. Chef Noble heads Noble food and Pursuits which operates 5 food spots in WS and Charlotte - Copain, Rooster's Wood Fired Kitchen, Noble Smoke, Bossy Beulah's, and The Jimmy. I came with a single minded focus - the Raspberry Croissant, and that was what I had. This croissant was quite nice - flaky with a great raspberry filling with a touch of tartness. This pastry is huge, and vey well filled. As almost always happens when you are in a spot that has so many choices that are so attractively displayed, you rarely end up with just 1 item. In addition to the raspberry pastry I chose a Blueberry Danish - another excellent item. I walked in at 10:15 AM and was waited on immediately, and was back in my car in 5 minutes or so. I've seen Copain pop up on Yelp a few times, I had the pleasure of chrcking them out! They had a lot of pastry options, and breakfast items and amazing coffee! They had a few vegetarian options as well and some gluten free options! I couldn't take a picture of it but I got a dirty chai and it was wonderful. I also got their spinach quiche which was my first ever quiche, and I absolutely loved it! I tried the lemon poppy seed muffin which was under $3 by the way, lately these bakeries are charging way too much, so it was refreshing to see a place not gouge just because it's beautiful and French. It was actually a very dense muffin which I enjoyed, great for dipping in coffee. Yes... I dip stuff in coffee all the time. They had fresh focaccia, fresh baguettes, bread galore. I've been so excited for this place to finally open up! I arrived first thing for their grand opening - I actually got here at 6:45am and sat in my car! They were still finalizing getting ready but everything looked great from the outside? It's a bright, clean, spacious place with lots of seating and plenty of breakfast and lunch goodies, plus wine! Arriving right at 7am, I'll have to save the wine for next time! This morning I got a drip coffee with caramel and two macarons (coffee and lemon poppyseed). I specifically requested the coffee in a mug since I wanted to sit for a bit and read. The macarons were served in a to go bag so I just placed them on my coffee saucer :) The coffee was tasty, definitely a smaller portion - maybe 6oz. The macarons were good too (I'm not the harshest sugar critic, if it's sweet, I can't hate it) but a little cold and harder, I wish the inside was either warmer or just a bit creamier. Service was great- for opening day, everyone was a little frantic, and expectedly so, but they greeted us warmly and took care of us with all smiles! This bakery doubles as a brassiere. I was greeted by warm lovely smiles. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The space is very inviting with lots of natural lighting. Jazz music plays in the background and the smell of baked goods fill the air. They offer an array of honey, salts, and jams to take home. I came around 11 am on a Wednesday, and maybe because it was opening week (or maybe not?), the place was packed! I tried the raspberry croissant, chocolate chip cookie, and strawberry cream puff, all of which I'd recommend. They have just opened so the line was very long and they were out of a lot of things, including the french baguettes. Service was very friendly and they progressed the line quickly. The food offerings I tried were good, not great - certainly this is no Parisian bakery but as we lack almost any decent bakery in the piedmont area, they will do fine I'm sure. Unfortunately although they are emulating a French bakery, they are fully American in most of their recipes and styles. They have no items they call gluten free but do have some they term "gluten friendly" - the issue being they are made in an offsite location without certainty about cross-contamination. As a sandwich shop it looks quite nice, as an American bakery it's honestly above par, but as a French bakery it's a knock off unfortunately. read more

I was excited that a new coffee shop was opening in such a central location, and we finally got to check it out! Pros: The service was honestly really great- they were patient with us as we were admiring all of their pastries and deciding what we wanted. We decided on one sweeter and one more savory pastry (the jalapeño pastry was still slightly sweet). They offered to heat up our pastries I love warm pastries). There was ample seating inside. There were people on coffee dates, groups of friends catching up, families spending time together, and some students studying as well- a place truly for anyone. Cons: Honestly I probably wouldn't get either of the pastries again. They tasted like they had been sitting out a while. The caramel latte wasn't my favorite and I probably won't get it again either. The caramel syrup tasted more like Splenda. This latte is smaller than I normally get at other cafes and was about the same price as well. Would I go back? If it wasn't for the great location and great indoor seating area, I'd recommend other small business coffee shops that are in the area. I'd go back if a friend wanted to meet over coffee, but wouldn't choose to come here alone. read more

Finally made it to Copain Bakery in Winston-Salem recently after seeing it all over social media. The space is so cute, though it can get a little crowded, so finding a seat might take a minute. The staff was super friendly and helped us pick what to try, which was great because there were so many options. I ended up getting the Raspberry Croissant, Speck & Gruyere Croissant, Blueberry Danish, and a Crème Brûlée Doughnut. Everything was delicious, but the Raspberry Croissant was definitely the favorite! I also tried a lavender latte and it was amazing. Copain has become a regular stop for my wife and me every Sunday. I always ask the server what his or her favorite item is and try that so I don't get into a rut of always getting the same thing. Today the fellow recommended a Crème brûlée doughnut. It was phenomenal. My wife had the sticky bun. She wouldn't give me a bite. I called her a name and she said for that I could have a bite of her tomato galette (it's a savory tart)that she bought for lunch later. I called her another name since I figured that she didn't have anything else she could withhold. I was wrong. Copain is owned by the same group that owns Roosters, a Noble Grill, which is one our favorite restaurants in Winston-Salem. Copain occupies the space right next to Roosters. It has the vibe of a French brasserie. The staff has always been very helpful, polite and friendly. I recommend try it. You won't be disappointed. I asked for my cappuccino to be put in a real cup which they forgot but corrected. I loved my raspberry croissant ! Subtle raspberry flavor and a little cream cheese I think was inside. Pastry was nice and flaky just how I like it. When warmed they taste even better. Would definitely get this again. They have so much variety though I want to try something different every time. There's about 5 different types of croissants. Original, almond, chocolate, raspberry and ham and cheese. My friend liked her quiche and the other savories looked good too around us. She said the coffee was ok. Which drip coffee is self serve and free refills. She said for a French bakery the coffee could be better. Great place for friends, moms, family's and business meetings. There were several of those students working taking up a table for two for a long time and all they had was a drink on the table. Both were very tasty, and I would try the other quiche flavors they have. For something sweet, we shared the Boston cream pie croissant. It was a creative take on the pastry. The vanilla cream and chocolate were excellent. I also had their drip coffee which was good. The inside is modern and inviting. Their coffee water area is off to the side so you are not in people's way making your drink. The staff was very nice. We plan to come back and try more yummy treats. read more
