On this Friday evening on March 17, the place certainly felt like, smelled like, and looked like an Irish bar! Lots of patrons decked out in green St. Patrick's Day garb, with plenty of free giveaways to compliment your wardrobe. Even green beer Huggies/cooler cups! For a growing crowd, the service never wavered. Excellent and attentive. We were told the food would be an hour before we even ordered. That's okay they have plenty of cold beers to choose from (no draft--cans and bottles only). Our food was only 20 minutes max and very good corned beef. There are two main rooms, one with the bar and the other with pool tables. We will need to check them out on a date other than March 17. read more

This Irish pub opened up almost 2 years ago, and is by far one of the best additions to the city. It's run by reservist and retired military, with a very friendly, albeit busy, wait staff. It's got a beautifully constructed bar, with a bunch of your standard Irish posters, memorabilia, etc. on the walls and around the place. They've also got a couple dartboards, pool tables, and a jukebox. The tables and chairs are all made out of wood, it's got the most authentic style of any place in Goldsboro, and the food is pretty damn good for a pub. You're going to pay a little extra here for drinks, but the selections of beer are all served at the perfect temperature and in a glass. Shots are chilled, and all top-shelf liquors appear to be here as well. There are a series of weekly specials/events, where you can either find a deal on food/drink (Tues./Wed. night), or enjoy some tunes (live music on Fridays--usually a cover of $5). The place can get a little too crowded on weekends, which usually leads to long waits between drinks if you're not aggressive about ordering. Nevertheless, this is the only Irish place in Goldsboro; that alone makes it unique, but it also happens to be one of the few places you can sit down with a group of friends and get served by a staff that really knows how to serve a beer--that makes it my bar of choice in this town. read more

This bar is owned by some people I know from work. They have a great selection of beer, wine, and full bar. The bartenders are awesome and are really nice and are good at remembering what you like to drink. They have a live band on Friday or Saturday night and also serve appetizers and soup and salads that are great. Every Wednesday is corned beef and cabbage that is to die for! They make it fresh and is cooked in Guiness. It sells out really quick so it's best to get there before 6:30pm on Wedsnesdays if you want some. They also serve really good sandwiches as well. I recommend the "Flying Shamrock" which is a ruban that comes on rye or flat bread. This bar/restaurant does it right...drink specials throughout the week, select micro brews on hand, trivia night on Mondays, and tasty food. I mean the alcohol is good because you can't really screw that up. Food is ok. Two stars because its a major turn off to see bartenders/servers lounging around out front smoking with skirts so short you can see their underpants. It just looks trashy. It did not used to be like that. read more

Love this place...as I've been several times before (for which I'd give 5 stars) but tonight was beyond terrible. I know it's St. Patrick's day but we arrived at 4:45 and the place was very slow. Our server seated us and seemed annoyed to have a table. She knew little about the specials and nothing about the wine. When she finally returned with our drinks, she asked "what do you want to eat?" We ordered an app...and when it hadn't arrived after 30 minutes, we inquired about it and she said "our kitchen can be pretty slow." Really? You blame the kitchen yet you've not stopped by to check on us and we had to stop you? We got our app then never saw the server again...for over an hour. She didn't even return after my wife hunted her down and asked her to stop by at "her convenience" so that we could place an order! In total, in over two hours, we got two beers, 1 glass of wine and a spinach dip...and were charged for an extra glass of wine we never got. Very disappointed. Likely will not return for a while as this was a terrible experience...or at least refuse to have that server again. read more

I came here for dinner. It's primarily a bar but they have some restaurant seating they have a pool table in one area. The menu is not large but the food was good. I had a BBQ pulled corn beef on a pretzel bun which was made pretty quickly, but something like a buffalo chicken dip a table near me had, took longer than it took for me to eat. The server I had was really friendly but not in a fake way. I would definitely come back here. read more

So, I was in Goldsboro for work reasons. This was my first visit to Goldsboro. Goldsboro is in need of more downtown businesses I think, so the flying shamrock is probably a good thing for the town. I read their dinner menu and saw lots of interesting Irish dishes, so I was excited to visit. However, when I got there it was lunch, and all they had was the lunch menu, which was mostly typical pub food with tacked on Irish names. Bummer. However, they did have a corned beef sandwich, so I ate that to feel like I was getting something at least vaguely Irish. The sandwich was decent with lots of meat and all, but it didn't knock my socks off. If I'm ever back in Goldsboro I would go to the Flying Shamrock for dinner, but not for lunch. read more

The Flying Shamrock is a pretty cute bar. When I went there about a year ago, I had a good experience. My bartender, Carrie Anne, made me an awesome drink, and was also really friendly. I'd prefer to go after 10 pm, because that's when the 40 year old + crowd trickles out. read more

I was very disappointed at the flying shamrock. We went on a Thursday and there was barely anyone there (which was fine). All we ordered was wings and it took 45 minutes to get our wings. The few people that were there were only having drinks and not eating food. Once we finally got our food the wings were horrible. Most of the wings that we got were bloody and undercooked. We ended up getting a refund because they were not edible. We ordered a long island ice tea which was their drink special for the night. It was very water down and the drink was a light color. We will most likely never go there again. read more

Typical pub and pub food. Came here with military friends on a work trip on a dead weeknight. Three of the five of us had our credit card numbers stolen with attempted uses in North Carolina and Georgia. Only places we used our cards was at this place and our hotel (reputable hotel). Decent bar with great drinks and good atmosphere. I have been here multiple times but never tried the food until a few days ago. My food of choice for this particular night was the shepherds pie which I must say was very lacking. It was barely warm and seemed like a bowl of mush that someone had just melted a hand full of cheese on top of. I can say that after this experience I will never eat here again. read more

Our first visit was on a Friday night, so we were lucky enough to hear live music and experience a laid back atmosphere. The food and drink were both lack luster, however. We ordered the Flying Shamrock sandwich, which was written up on the menu to be "piled high with corn beef and pastrami." No exaggeration, our sandwich came out on chincy flat bread, with ONE thick cut piece of corned beef. The sandwich itself bordered on cold and we ordered pasta salad as a side but got potato chips. Our friend ordered a beer from the rotating tap which they didn't actually have in house, so the manager came out and gave him a voucher... which the server neglected to take off the bill. Another from our party ordered a well drink on special... small, small, small, with more ice than anything. After waiting about 20 minutes for our tab to be closed, we left unimpressed.
