Quesabirria did not look or tasted anything like it, it was colorless, flavorless & not to mention the cilantro and lime were non existent. The "house-made" tortillas tasted and look more like they came from a package. And the Mexican stew yea I couldn't eat it, had a weird unpleasant taste it was more like water and oil. I also orders some shrimp tacos shrimp were really salty and the chipotle aioli didn't have much flavor. The spicy pastor tacos, did not have much flavor and were definitely not spicy not even a hint again cilantro was non existent. The housemade tortilla chips were actually really good but the salsas were really sour. Personally it was a waste of money but that's my opinion. Soo this is my second time here. First time was a few years ago and I truly expected more from the food from what I had remembered but alas, it was a let down. Glad this area has some nice restaurants but maybe coming for drinks is a thing here vs for good food? We were seated quickly and order taken right away. Got a cucumber mule which was ok, and then I got mahi tacos and rice and my husband got the chicken tacos and rice. Tacos had flavor but pricey for just two and no sides. The rice, it was so bland, why bother?! I didn't even eat half of it and I usually do not waste food. Restaurant has a nice atmosphere right by the river with a rooftop deck for sitting outside and after 5, can park for free in the lot next door. Will I go back, unfortunately probably not. read more

We had visited this restaurant before and had a nice meal. We happened to be in the area, so we figured we would go there again. We were quite disappointed this time. Although the atmosphere was pleasant (good music, nice lighting), the food was not. First off, the portions were way smaller this time. I ordered a side of Spanish rice ($3.50) and it was literally about three (small) table spoons, child portion. My fish tacos were awful. There was barely any fish, just a lot of uncooked onions, red sauce (which was supposed to be on the side due to the heat) and crema. Although the waitress was nice (and offered to bring me something else) she should have made sure the meals she was bringing out were done correctly in the first place. What if I had been allergic to heat? or preferred dairy free ? My tacos were drenched in crema (sour cream) to off set the sauce they had forgotten to put on the side--frankly, the dish did not look very appetizing I barely ate any of it. Sadly, we will not be returning. **Update: The restaurant was kind enough to reach out and reimbursed me for my meal. Changing the stars to reflect that. read more

This is the only "Mexican" food place nearby. I tried their Quessabirria tacos and "street" corn and guacamole. The beef in the tacos had NO seasoning at all. Tasted like it was boiled in plain water. They included a "sauce" which looked and tasted like plain broth. This is not birria. Birria includes seasonings like chiles, onions, peppers and spices! The broth should be a deep burnt red, and not look like a clear liquid. The "street" corn was nothing but a burned on the outside corn with a plain mayo and grated cheese sprinkled with lime juice. The guacamole was drowned in lime juice with some chopped tomatoes and red onions. No jalepenos or cilantro. I literally packed the majority of it up to feed to my kids and even they wouldn't eat it. This was my first visit, and my kids opted for McDonald's and I needed real food- so tacos it was! The inside is super cute. And they have an outside deck for dining. I called in my order- staff was friendly and greeted me when I walked in. Food came out quick, it was about a 15 minute wait. I ordered the queso and the flying pigs tacos- both delicious. The queso had a little kick, which was great but the real star were the chips, warm and salty! Honestly such a good chip! I could eat them everyday. The tacos I asked for corn tortillas- came with shredded pork, roasted pineapple, white onion and cilantro with a green type salsa on the side. It had great flavor and texture- added no heat, but was delicious. My only criticism about the tacos were they came super oily, I don't know if it was the meat oil or if they had dipped the tortilla, either way, only flaw. Otherwise absolutely delicious. Overall if I lived local, this would definitely be my Spot. They have a huge drink selection and lots of delicious margarita choices! Unfortunately they don't do it to go. This was not Mexican food! It was bland and flavorless. The refried beans were actually black beans in a bowl with no seasoning. They only had burritos and tacos on the menu. The tortillas they use tast like very thin cardboard Real tortillas are fluffy not flat like paper. None of the food had Mexican spices added for flavor not even garlic! This is Cisco food truck food. The drinks were so watered down they were tasteless as well. Don't waste your money on this Mexican food that isn't even good fake Mexican food. We just adored this place when we found it going through the city. Very cute decor and the signs out front draw you in. We got the just in queso app and shared the fat guy in a little coat/taco like that taco place. Everything was well seasoned and delicious. Bottom line up front, the Flying Taco rocks! Walking through the door we received a warm welcome from the staff and were quickly seated on a early Sunday with no reservation needed. Ambience - the Taco was a complete re-do of the previous business, and it's welcoming, warm and has a cool vibe. New garage doors, a great bar, a beautiful gas fireplace and plenty of glass to view the river and the mountain on the opposite shore, the Taco's design is equipped to welcome guests winter or summer and everything in between. Upstairs sports a classic shuffleboard table, darts and a porch (weather permitting). Food - the menu is concise and gets to the point. You're in a restaurant that has no delusions of grandeur, well prepared, good food, served hot we thoroughly enjoyed everything. Entrées we ordered: - Fish Tacos - mahi mahi with a nice sauce, well prepared. Shrimp Tacos - our favorite, crisp tempura coating and nice sauce made these a home run! Chicken Tacos - marinated chicken breast. The tendency is to overcook chicken, not so here! Perfectly prepared and tasty. - Sides we ordered - cilantro rice with lime, small bowl but delicious and a nice accompaniment. French Fries - reminiscent of pommes frites - the very thin French preparation, these were also very nice, hot and freshly prepared. - Desserts - we enjoyed the Flan - perfect and nicely paired with roasted hazelnuts; Chocolate Cake with espresso ice cream - this was excellent though it is very rich (it was our favorite!); and finally Tres Leches Cake which was moist and the middle ground between the previous two - not too rich, light and wonderful flavor and a more elegant option than the Flan (though I personally had the flan and enjoyed it very much). Location - overlooking the Susquehanna River and enjoying a corner location, it's perfect. Also, a parking garage is next door in case there's no street parking. If you think a small menu is a problem, consider this...a smaller menu allows excellence to occur. Larger menus offer more but sacrifice top notch food, I prefer the focused approach and The Flying Taco is well on their way to a trajectory which will entertain Towanda guests for a long time to come. It's hard to know where to start, the Flying Taco gets full stars at every turn. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon without a reservation but were seated immediately. The decor is exciting and fun without being over the top, and the upstairs had plenty of space to hang out and play shuffleboard (on a beautiful old shuffleboard table!) All the food my family ordered was superbly prepared and arrived both hot and quickly. The food is not the usual tex-mex, but authentic Mexican fare prepared by chefs who managed to respect both their food's tradition and American sensibilities. Their salsas may be unlike anything you've tasted before, but with a palette acceptive to Mexican spices, are supreme. There's so much I want to say, but above all: go! We weren't certain what to expect from a place that bills itself as a taco bar in upstate Pennsylvania. After all, Towanda, PA doesn't exactly sound like a place that would be home to good Mexican food, but that's EXACTLY what we found in this tiny spot overlooking the Susquehanna River. The Flying Taco Mexican Grill's fun vibe was apparent before we even entered the door. A sign posted outside showed two arrows. The arrow pointing toward the door read "tacos" and the arrow pointing away from the door towards the river read "no tacos." There was a lively crowd around the bar and many people at the tables. The owner greeted us and seated us immediately and our server helped us navigate the witty names on the menu and made some outstanding recommendations. We decided on the house margarita and the evening's special birria tacos - a crispy fried taco shell stuffed with brisket, sautéed onions, melted cheese and happiness. It was served with a small cup of brisket broth/au jus for dipping. If a French dip brisket sandwich went to Mexico on vacation, had a torrent affair with a local beauty queen, their kid would be the barria taco. And yes, she would be voted prom queen of her high school. I've had some outstanding authentic Mexican food in some VERY good restaurants over the years. The Flying Taco Mexican Grill can hold its own with any of them and is now a member of that short list for me. I'm DEFINITELY coming back to sample more of this menu! read more

We spent $7 just for the salsa alone. When we said something they brought out a tiny bit more in these metal cups about the size of a small shot glass. We sat in the restaurant area but the bar looks lively & fun. The interior is designed with great taste. The service was fantastic. We were recommended the tacos & they did not disappoint. Definitely order the shrimp corn tacos and the brisket corn tacos. The guac is super fresh and so are the chips. Their Margarita is delish and they serve Ithaca Flower Power on draft which is a good brew! Price wise, a very good value considering the quality of ambiance, food, drinks and service. The looks in Flying Taco are very colorful and Devine. However that's what you practically pay for. The looks. The portions are very small for the prices and half of the items we received were cold. The waitress hardly checked in on us and would leave when we were in mid sentence. My family said she had muttered under her breath when I asked for dessert. I'm a little bit on the wide side but not much.even so it was very rude. If I were to go back, I'd only go for the games they have upstairs and/or the alcoholic beverages.
