We stayed at the AC while on a quick trip from Louisville. The Foundry Rooftop seemed like an easy and great choice based on reviews. The actual experience was less than. 2 adults and 1 10 yr old had a pizza, a rubin and a wagu burger, 1 glass of wine and 3 desserts totaling 150 with tip. The service was ok, we got juggled between servers no less than 3 times, and while they did communicate changes it did drag dinner out to almost 2 hours. The food was OK, nothing special and the flavor was kind of meh. The deserts, which was a family road trip splurge was completely lacking! All 3 had just a few bites taken and the rest tossed out, terrible. Over all I would not recommend, maybe a drink on the roof top, but look elsewhere for good food and service. I have been to the Foundry twice now due to staying at the AC Hotel (connected to it) when visiting Dayton for work. I would say that this is a very nice hotel restaurant and it is cool that it has an outdoor patio that overlooks the baseball park. It looks like they may be setting up some igloo seating area for the winter, but not sure yet! Both times that I have gone the food has been good. Not excellent but pretty good! This place is on the pricier side (expect to spend at least 30 per person for an app and entree) but for its convenience, it is worth it. My favorite thing that I have had so far is the shrimp app. My colleague had the crab cakes app and loved that too. The pizza is relatively big so it is good if you plan on splitting it or taking some home. The service at the tables was better than that at the bar (both friendlier and faster)! read more

We came back to visit the foundry for a second time. We ordered the burratta toast appetizer and it was very tasty. My husband had the short rib plate. I had the cherry pork belly. Both had very good flavors. However, my husband's rice was very hard in spots. He had asked to have mashed potatoes that they serve with other dishes instead of the rice, but that was one thing they said they would not substitute. We did bring this to the attention of the manager as well as our compliments on the tasty food. For dessert we had the chocolate Bundt cake. Nothing too amazing. But hit the sweet spot. This was a much better experience than our first one. I would still like to see them serve a side salad and bread. read more

This is a solid 3.5 star restaurant. Ambiance: - I believe this is Dayton's only rooftop bar! It is spacious with a good view. - The ambiance is very modern. I would say that the ambience is super cool, but the food and customer service were sub par. Seems like ownership paid plenty of details to the decor and the vibe, but the food was really an after thought. We ordered the smoked burrata toast, the salmon, and the mussels. All were very bland and most definitely overpriced. The cocktails were good, but again, overpriced. The customer service was also lacking. Our server was not very attentive. One person in our party ordered a pizza. The server told us that pizza was taking long to make and that we should hold off ordering the rest of the entrees. He told us he'd return in 15 minutes to take everyone else's order, but never came back. The pizza came out and no one else had even ordered an entree. We went to this restaurant for Easter. I ordered a Denver omelet (priced at $26) but without the onions. The waiter said the the chef could not "customize" the omelet so I had to have it with onions! Horrible experience. The only reason I'm giving two stars is because our server was great. We went on a Sunday so it was a limited brunch menu. We didn't get our food until the one hour mark. The burger I ordered medium and it was well done and dry and flavorless. The food was luke warm, and the cheese on my burger tasted like burnt plastic. The eggs were supposed to be over easy and were cooked thoroughly through. The only thing I can think is the food was cooking continuously the whole hour we were waiting. Since it was brunch it's not like we could order an appetizer to tide us over. No one even acknowledged the long wait and it's not like it was busy; there were only five tables seated when we got there. Plus it was breakfast food, which cooks quickly. We got a burger, waffles, and eggs. Unfortunately they were out of the wood-fired pizza I wanted to order which is surprising given how small and limited the menu is. Very disappointing. I'm glad we're from out of town so there's no chance we might accidentally end up back here. read more

Went to the foundry for drinks, my friend met me at the rooftop after I already had a glass of Prosecco and a few laughs with the bartender Jackson he was great. By the time my friend joined me Ali was helping us, we wanted to order the "tropi-killer" drink but it took 20 minutes to get her attention she was very dismissive and sarcastic, seemed like she had a rough day and was overall unpleasant and rude. If you go here I would suggest asking for Jackson as a bartender because Ali had no clue what she was doing and was no help whatsoever read more

Visit The Foundry once for its fine food and rooftop views, but go back for those plus the staff. They're professionals naturally, but also as friendly and gracious as anyone you'd care to meet. Keyan, for example. Though we didn't mean to, we created problems for him. We initially insisted on sitting outside. He outfitted our table with napkins, flatware, and water glasses, then headed off to get our drinks. But then we realized the wind was up and there was a chill in the air. So when he returned, we asked to be re-seated inside. Keyan wasn't fazed in the least. He smilingly brushed off our apologies, gathered the whole kit and caboodle, and showed us inside. In so doing, he defused an awkward situation so we could continue to enjoy our visit. If you go to The Foundry, feel free to keep it simple: share a Carnivorous pizza, a couple mugs of Foundry Reserve (a red lager), and the views. With luck, you'll get to visit with Keyan. This place is definitely one to try if you're in the Dayton area and wanting good food and cocktails! Overall, the pros definitely made this a great experience. I'd probably give it more of a 4.5/5 stars but I think this deserves a round up not down. While the place can be a bit noisy, the outdoor and indoor options have incredible views and great open floor plan. We went on a Saturday night as a party of three. There may have been more noise because of graduation events that weekend and the set up for Mother's Day the next day, so it may not be that way all the time on weeknights. The espresso martini was smooth with a good kick of caffeine to go with it. We had an order of avocado deviled eggs to split as an appetizer and I would love to have the recipe for this dish! We had the lemon herb salmon Caesar salad, steak poutine, and carnivorous pizza for entrees and the carrot cake for dessert. While the salmon on the Caesar was cooked to perfection and a good portion size, I will say they need to let the diners know that they put a significant amount of actual sardines in the dressing for the salad. If you are not a big sardine fan, DO NOT order this salad! The steak poutine was utter perfection of a perfectly cooked steak, great sauce, and well matched/prepared sides. The pizza was just "okay" really. It was fairly undercooked and needed another few minutes in the oven. They don't coordinate the pizzas and the entrees so be aware of this that they'll just bring the pizza out whenever they feel like it and it will probably beat your entrees out by 20 minutes or more(at least the servers tell you this as well). Carrot cake is more like carrot bread(imagine zucchini bread with cream cheese icing) but is decent. read more

I am by no means one to spend my time leaving an unflattering review. However, as a Daytonian, I feel obliged to my fellow residents to briefly sketch my first and, God almighty willing, last experience with this piece of garbage restaurant. My wife and I were meeting a couple who are close friends of ours for dinner on a week night. As it is a restaurant attached to a hotel, my inclination was to enter through the hotel lobby, which was itself, poorly informative on its own. The front desk was unmanned for approximately 30 seconds, and once a semi- professional front desk receptionist (or they could have been a manager for all I know) appeared, they informed my wife and I that to enter the rooftop restaurant, we had to exit the hotel, and use an entrance to the side of the building. Peculiar for sure, especially since there seemed to be an elevator there in the lobby. This will come into play at the end of the evening. Once my wife and I made it upstairs, we were blasted in the face by a hodgepodge yet sterile environment. But that was to be expected - this is, after all, a restaurant that evidently caters to the new Dayton Yuppie class who presumably want the atmosphere of living in a more trendy hip place. The patrons were thus primarily youthful types showing off their bodies because they're young, so why not. There were also your Oakwood/Beavercreek types, which, if you don't get it then forget it. I would say we were underdressed, but we weren't. There were dudes in white dress shirts and navy pants and brown oxfords or white trainers (a look that never seems to die). Mixed with them were ladies who looked like they wore their yoga pants to bed before falling out of it in the early evening in a vapid stupor to grab a 15 dollar poisonously tasting cocktail. There were, of course, the geriatrics, head to toe Ralph Lauren. This is all to say that downtown Dayton does not have a dress code. Yet when we were escorted to our seats, a square table in the back of the bar in a section that looked hilarious bare-bones when contrasted with the rest of the ostentatious yet Simulacrum-Sanitized atmosphere, I couldn't help but to feel as though we were not favored by the restaurant staff. This was only emphasized further by the fact that nobody in the restaurant had ever been so high up and were thus propelled to go on an evening constitutional on the balcony, allowing a Hellish blast of air each time the door opened. Dreadful in 90 degree heat. Given the heat, the water in a carafe was very much appreciated when brought by the server. Excited for a refreshing cool glass of water quickly turned to soured disappointment when our carafe - and all subsequent refills - were room temperature at best. Dayton's tap water had a more refreshing taste than whatever the Foundry was pouring. Our server was fine. I have nothing unfavorable to say of them, other than that they seemed a little absent, but it was a busy night - so busy that they had to seat patrons near the blast furnace balcony doors. So I hold no ill will there. Now on to the food, the primary reason to ever go anywhere and do anything as a species. In a word: bland. In a couple more words: they have no business charging such outrageous prices for food that was so flavorless that it far exceeded White Castle on the bland-o-meter. My wife's dish came out cold, which is laughable for a restaurant that's trying very very hard to seem laudable. My wife's cocktail tasted like poison, or maybe concocted by a college freshmen assembling a drink from whatever they could get their nimble little fingers on. I myself could not finish such an atrocious creation, and alcoholism runs deep in my family. More blasts of hot air prompted me to dive right into the balcony with my friend, to at least check out the atmosphere. It was as spartan and bland as the food itself. The balcony was infested with little pests taking instagram-worthy posts of the sun setting over a city whose character is being gradually stripped away by Columbus-based developers and restaurants like The Foundry. Back inside and receiving the bill. Again, too pricey for what you get. But we paid, sat for a while, and talked over more glasses of lukewarm water. The conversation the four of us brought to the table was certainly the most savory thing of the evening. Finally deciding to leave, we boarded the elevator which took us downward. To the lobby of the hotel. The very same lobby that the front desk agent advised us to exit and go around the building to get on the same elevator to get to the rooftop nightmare. I cannot, for the life of me, understand why we were given the most convoluted route to the restaurant, except for either we were not the "right clientele" or else just general hotel employee incompetence. But given the experience, it was probably both. This is about as far as Yelp will let me go. In short, go to the Arby's a few blocks away. You know what you're getting. read more

This place now is impressive. They've solved the issues I spoke of in my first review and now I would rate it as a nice place to meet with friends on their outside deck for drinks and dinner if it's nice outside? It's like he thought he was at the club and that really took a lot of the atmosphere away from what could be a place for a romantic dinner. This is definitely one of my favorite new bars and restaurants in downtown Dayton. Perfect location close to Cannery Lofts, the Oregon and DBC. Also the patio is not to be missed - looks right down into Dragons baseball field. The cocktails here are very well made and high priced. The espresso martinis are top notch. The staff, waiters and bartenders have always been very nice and accommodating to large groups. They have wonderful live music nights with local talented singers like Joe Lankford from Limelight Entertainment. You can make reservations online for both bar seats and table seats. I haven't had a bad pizza yet - all of them are amazing and great size. The ugly toast appetizer is my favorite thing on the menu (basically cheesy bread with 3 sauces: hummus, pesto and the best marinara around). The garlic prawns were very tasty, buttery and great bread. I don't recommend the deviled eggs - small and bland. read more

Third, the menu seems to lack a theme, so if the chef was going for visionless chaos, he nailed it. The reason for the one star is the food quality. Most our group settled on pizzas which were sparse with toppings and flavor. If you want just a basic cheese pizza, that can be done (not well, but seems to be their specialty) at a premium price. One member of the group attempted dessert, pumpkin cheesecake. It was a chunk of coal due to being extremely burnt! To start off, the rooftop atmosphere was great and the views were awesome. I don't think there is a similar view in dayton! Unfortunately, the service was incredibly slow. Our waiter was so nice and apologetic. We could tell there were just not enough servers for the amount of people sitting. We waited around 20 minutes to be given waters and for our drink order to be taken. Then when our food arrived, we had to get up to find silverware. I had the burger which I enjoyed but the mussels were not great. Then again we waited to cash out. We would have ordered more drinks and dessert, but we just didn't get a chance and didn't feel like waiting longer. In the future, we would probably just return for drinks and the view. read more

So disappointed! I've been wanting to come here for months and finally decided to tonight. Tuesday night about 8pm. We didn't have a reservation but they sat us right away. To be short, food was majorly disappointing for the price point and the service was atrocious considering the caliber of the restaurant and i'm pretty sure our server was the manager. We ordered: avocado deviled eggs (they were okay, kind of out there), spinach and artichoke dip (amazing), scallops (ABSOLUTELY AWFUL), rueben (it was okay), short rib pasta (good but nothing special), short ribs (they were okay but i've had them at Salar and Salar's are much better), and the 24 hour chicken (absolutely garbage). We were brought two different versions of the mushroom risotto, I have no idea how that happened. one had clearly frozen carrots and peas in it. The manager told us they were really busy and apologize for the disappointment but they seated us right away and the service started to go down hill as the restaurant died out. Some of the sides paired with the main dishes did not go well together. The dishes were not cohesive. Whoever does their menu surely needs to reevaluate. Server also talked up all their amazing desserts and when we ordered she finally decided to mention they were out of all but 2 desserts. $277 not including tip, we won't be back. read more

This was a pretty big miss for me. The entire visit started off sour when the bartender asked for a credit card to hold a tab for our dinner!! A couple sat to our left after we started eating and they weren't asked to start a tab for their meals. Clearly they must have looked like they had money and we didn't. My husband and I decided to check out the Foundry for a Tuesday dinner date night. We ordered the smoked burrata and prawns to start. The smoke burrata, itself, was fine. The bruschetta that came with it was overpowered with raw garlic. I love garlic so that's really saying something. The prawns (also just shrimp) were cooked perfectly. The oily sauce it came in left a lot to be desired. The entire dish needed a big hit of acidity, citrus to brighten it. I ordered the pork belly for my main, my husband ordered the steak poutine. The pork belly dish was HUGE. THE pork belly was cooked beautifully. The red beans and rice that came with it were flavorful but I prefer my red beans a little less al dente. My husband's entire dish was cold to start. He cut into his mid-rare steak and it was raw. Ever had steak tartare? His steak was literally that raw. No one came to check on us after our dishes were placed for a solid 15 or more minutes. He was hungry and didn't want to wait longer or cause a fuss so he reluctantly ate it. He likes tartar but when you are expecting a steak...I suppose it should be cooked the proper way. I ordered a large pour of wine, received a small pour. I figured the bartender must not have heard the large part. No worries. Well, it ended up on our bill as a large pour that I never received. The entire bar service staff was inattentive the whole time we were there so we decided to take it on the chin...like the rest of our mediocre meal...and just wont come back. read more
