My partner and I constantly reference our visit to this café, as a joke, because it was the worst customer service experience of our lives. After reading some of the reviews here, clearly we're not the only ones. Here's our horrific, and hilarious, experience: We wandered in during Beaver County Boom, and when the owner, Jonathan, saw us enter, he turned to what appeared to be an employee and said, "You have to make the customers feel like they interrupted you doing something really important," and proceeded to sarcastically roll his eyes at us, saying we were interrupting their philosophical discussion about the Catholic church--we hadn't even been greeted yet. I thought this was quite the bold gamble to play on his part, since he had no idea if we would play along or be offended with the "joke". At first, I did play along because I love a good bit. But instead of taking our orders, he proceeded to ask us very personal questions for the next half-hour, such as where we lived, what we did for work, and (my) ethnicity... This guy is a nut. At one point, he said to my partner, "Don't worry, you'll grow out of the hipster look in a few years," with a laugh. He pointed to the only Black person in the mostly empty café and called them "Black Mamba", and as we saw two Black women approach the café from the window, he said, "Here come my chocolate queens!" (He is 100% visibly white. I am a person of color writing this.) He and his wife had a cooler of Angry Orchards (alcohol) sitting on the counter, and they offered some to us for completely free. We were already weirded out, so we declined. After my partner had finally ordered his drink, Jonathan pressured me into getting a drink as well, even though I already had one from another business. I had a Joe's Tea, and Jonathan guilt-tripped me by saying I wasn't supporting small businesses until I ordered a smoothie. When someone else started leaving the café, Jonathan yelled, "Wait, where are you going?!" and the girl nervously answered, "I might be back later," before she left. During our unwanted, hostage-style conversation, Jonathan acted like the musical expert in the room despite my partner and I sharing that we both hold degrees in music, and would only speak directly to my partner about it even after my partner tried to loop me into the conversation several times. When Jonathan started in on Eminem and cancel culture, we finally bowed out. The drinks were pretty good, not gonna lie, but do not go unless you're welcoming this kind of experience! I went here when I was 15 with my father. We ordered a Chai Latte, a London Fog, and a Oreo crepe. The food was very nice. The place was nice and quiet for the most part, but the male owner was eccentric to say the least. He called us both "darling" a few times which creeped me out a bit, he started ranting about how much he hated the trans representation in the new Star Trek series (As in he hated that there were trans people in the show), and at one point he thought that my dad and I were dating. He also at one point said that he may call me by my legal name because "your name is the second gift given to you when you're born." He knew my legal name because I told him my preferred name and he asked what it was short for. I panicked and gave him my legal name because of social anxiety. Not to mention, he kept talking to us while we were both trying to do our homework. Overall, the food and seating was nice but the atmosphere was ruined by the male employee. read more

I appreciate/understand a little checkout small talk, but the male owner?... Wouldn't stop asking me and my friend very personal questions, where do we live? Where did I Used to live? Were do we work? What do we do at work? Are we dating?... Then he started ranting about how the Google and yammer reviews were all lies. The owner is weird as. It's a shame, because the tea and coffee we got were good,but the awkward never ending small talk made me never want to go back. His wife, or the female coworker seemed normal and nice. read more

So impressed with this coffee shop. We wish we lived closer, but driving by stopped in. John and Angel are a breath of fresh air and super welcoming. We enjoyed our drinks: a tea for me and a coffee for my husband. We will definitely come back for a visit and to try the crepes with these stellar drinks! read more

walked in for first time, guy was dressed like jeff bridges in the big lebowski haha. very welcoming, an the caramel latte an sugar cookie an chocolate chip cookie was amazing. talked with the way cool owner johnny boy for an hour. the dude, an establishment is a major + in monaca. next is to go in an try the crepes. two thumbs up. if not been here yinz have to give it a go. read more

John D. is correct, the times are now posted both outside and on this site, but in 2014 when I wrote this they were not. The owner has contacted me 2 times over this post now. Once when it was written with a private message that was snarky and on the verge of rude. Now he has left a lengthy response for everyone to see. I think it is great that the owners of these establishments have the opportunity to respond to the reviews because it gives them the option of telling there side. So there it is, his side. Unfortunately I don't think his response makes the establishment anymore inviting. read more

It's a great place. I would recommend the chai tea. I always like to stop by and have one when I am in town. If you are wanting something interesting, try the Klingon coffee. It's a greats a great blend of flavors and lots of caffeine to keep you awake. Oh, you ask why I gave the place a 1 star and wrote such a stellar review? I saw the review from Andrew, but I risked it anyway. Who knows, maybe it had just been an off day? No. Andrew was right. This is not a coffee shop to go to if you want that traditional coffeehouse vibe. The owner is indeed very talkative, so, as the other reviewer mentioned, you are not given a lot of time to sit and enjoy a book or pull out a laptop to work. Clean and there are even specialty crepes on the menu which sounded lovely, but when I go for coffee, I want to be able to enjoy my beverage in an environment that allows for book discussions or knitting groups or just nosing through a newspaper. The spontaneous amateur DJing of techno would be fantastic for some, but just not what I personally was anticipating. The prices are a little higher than Starbucks for many things due to them roasting the beans themselves I presume. Good enough, but not sure it's worth the price considering the other local shops in the area. Overall, not a bad cup of coffee, but not sure the experience in general is one I could be convinced to repeat. read more

I think food and drink are undoubtedly better when one has the right company to enjoy it with. I have sampled a few of their drinks and tried to have a decent conversation with the owner when he prompts me to do so, but I have been down right sick to my stomach between the food and some of the things that were said. Never bring kids. Never bring adults. Just don't go unless you wish to have your patience tested and overpay to leave unsatisfied in every respect. read more

How many things can you do in Beaver County past 9 o'clock? You probably can't get past the five fingers on your one hand... ...well add this cafe to your list. This isn't your typical coffee shop and certainly not a Starbucks experience. This is the place you go to relax, reflect, and enjoy a cup of coffee with a side of conversation. Finally got a chance to stop in when they were actually open! er....they were actually closing but the sign was still on in the window. So they allowed us to get a beverage anyway. My 13 yr old son and I have to say.... "BEST dang hot chocolate EVER!" Certainly pricy, but I guess that's what you pay for the BEST DANG HOT CHOCOLATE EVER!!! Owners were very friendly and talkative. So are we, so we didn't mind. Techno stuff wasn't happening at the time, so I don't have any review about that. Not sure if I would like it or not, but in order to experience another BEST DANG HOT CHOCOLATE EVER, we're willing to take that chance! read more

Wife and I visited this place and I thought the drinks were excellent! I ended up ordering four of them within the 40 min we were there (speed of service was not an issue) because they were so tasty and very unique. Wife's tea was amazing! We found the owner very friendly and kind but unlike the experience of other reviewers, he did not bother us at all once we sat by the window. It's prices were upper-average, but I felt like the fresh made-ness and creative flavors were well worth the cost. read more

It takes a certain kind of person to appreciate this place. Unfortunately, I am not that kind of person, so I was not overly charmed. When I go to a café/coffee shop, I'm generally looking for the sort of place that has a nice, low-key atmosphere where I can sit for an hour or two and get some work done in an environment that motivates me not to just sit around and browse the internet. Coffee that isn't overpriced and workers that are friendly is a bonus. The ideal customer at the Fountainhead Café, however, is an extrovert or someone with a very high tolerance for extroverts and noise. The owner was quite fond of conversation, and it took half an hour for three of us, in an almost completely empty café, to get our drinks. After we finally got our drinks and sat down, he kept coming over to our table to make conversation--which was nice of him, but we weren't really able to get anything done. The drinks themselves were average, though he argued with us for some time about how we wanted them made, and made one of them far too sweet--the amount of honey he dumped in was a little ridiculous. They were priced at about Starbucks prices. The crepes were a bit small for the price, and were also about average quality. They could also stand a little variety in their food offerings, other than sugary crepes. By the time we made good our escape we all felt a bit stressed out by the experience. As I said, it takes a certain type of person to appreciate this place, but I don't think we fall into that category. read more

This place is one on my favorites to go to. I love the fact that they have freshly made crepes there because where else in beaver county can you get a crepe? The owners are very nice and friendly which makes this place such a welcoming environment. My friends and I always love coming here and hanging out for hours at a time. The hours they are open are perfect for a student too since school ends around three and that's when they open. I will always enjoy coming to the Fountainhead Cafe and getting a homemade crepe with an amazingly made drink. read more
