The Innkeeper, Karen, is a true New Yorker and very accommodating to our needs. She asked us each night what time we wanted breakfast the next morning. She asked for our preferences and remembered the small things! One guest drinks unsweetened ice tea rather than coffee each morning and she had a pitcher ready every morning for him. She offered to drive us to the raceway (we took her up on this offer one day) and she engaged in great conversation with us. But, we also had privacy too. The rooms were clean with private bathrooms. There are 3 nice rooms in the Inn and a lovely outdoor area with fire pit which would be great in nicer weather. There was a nice selection of beer and wine available at the Inn (free of charge, but we replenished). It is a true bed and breakfast experience and not a hotel or Air BnB.

My friend and I sat outside in the beautiful garden on a beautiful tree lined street on a perfect day. It was a great memory for both of us! Maggie is a truly wonderful host who cares for her business and guests. The South Country Inn is a grand historic home that makes the perfect setting for a special lunch date who appreciates these details. As it gets warmer, there are plans for new tables and seating arrangements in the comfort of air conditioning. I've attached the sample menu from March 23 so you can call ahead for your reservation or take out. My friend and I both had the Quiche w/ salad and fresh-brewed unsweet tea. It was a lovingly prepared treat with fresh and healthy ingredients. We also opted for her homemade Italian salad dressing. It was all delicious. Financial difficulties coupled with…read moresignificant structural damage has resulted in the repossession and auction of the property by the lienholder. I viewed the property in October on the day the owners were surrendering the property. My personal assessment is that it will take between $900,000 and $1,000,000 to purchase and restore it to its former glory. It is currently uninhabitable. I sincerely hope that the right person comes along so this piece of Daytona history isn't lost forever.

I noticed later in the evening, when the lobby was packed with new guests checking in, he maintained his pleasant demeanor. Definitely a gem at the front desk! I want to point out that this property does not charge for parking & has no resort fee. Parking did seem to be plentiful as we found a great spot quickly. Also, the free breakfast buffet was better than average. I was excited to see that the pool had finally been refurbished & was allegedly open, but we weren't able to access it at 9:15pm on a Friday night, though signage & Gerald at the front desk said the pool area was open until 10pm. This also meant that beach access was not available at this time from hotel grounds. As it was cold by Florida standards that night, lack of beach & pool access weren't deal-breaking but disappointing nonetheless. Our room offered a decent side-ocean-view from our balcony, and I enjoyed peeping the sunrise on Saturday morning from my bed. I was disappointed to notice that our balcony had no seating, but again, it was chilly so not a big deal. I hope patio chairs are on their reno list. And I also hope they look at replacing some of the in-room furniture. The *cozy corner* sofa has seen better decades, And the dresser below the TV was even more dated. In fact, the top drawer wouldn't stay closed (we weren't using it) and that became a running joke. As did the un-vacuumed carpeting in our room. The ice machine on our floor didn't seem to work, but I also noticed a sign noting it was only in-service certain hours (?!). I went to another floor and found a working ice machine, but was confused by that weird restriction. It was definitely within the specified operating window, but we already knew we couldn't access the pool area during the open times so I guess those are loose timeframes. The bathroom in our room was immaculate and the bedding was fresh (you know I checked the mattresses). We also had plenty of pillows, which I appreciated. Gerald at the front desk was fantastic & he didn't forget my free bottled waters as a Discoverist. That next morning, hubs woke up early as usual & caught sunrise from the sand, so he was thrilled with our stay here just for that & the buffet breakfast (which was good). We'll certainly visit again, and hope they update the room furniture & don't lock up everything too early.

A late lunch was presented on stacked serving ware and small glass trays that held a delicious chicken salad on a croissant, tomato basil soup, and a scone with butter and jam. The serving tray held small cucumber mint sandwiches and a classic (with a twist) bruschetta - tomato,basil, balsamic on a zucchini slice - as well as several desserts such as cheese cake cubes, carrot cake, and some sort of lemon curd in a puff pastry cup. And of course the tea - a lovely vanilla chai - that was perfect with everything. Carmen, our host, gave us info about the house, dating from the late 1800's, a Mother's Day trivia game, and TEA BINGO! We were able to tour some rooms in the B&B and there's also a cute gift shop selling all things Tea Party related. The High Tea ended with a glass of Mango Mimosa that just hit the spot.
