She showed me the thermostat to stay at 66 degrees and gave me "the look" about changing it. The reason she gave is so that the rest of the guests in that building did not get hot. For the few nights I was there, not one other guest stayed in that building, and just a few in the main building. (and this was high season). One couple was there the first day and I imagined they looked a little scared too. I love B and B's with their little quirks and oddities. I make them a habit and I work with little things that are not perfect, which they seldom are in old buildings. However, normally the hosts are always warm and friendly and help you work with whatever it is. In this instance I was afraid to ask for any help at all - just kept a low profile. I would not recommend this one if you're looking for anything that feels welcoming. p.s. they have two large dogs that rush the fence barking whenever you walk to your car.

Treasure Island, on Daytona Beach Shores. Gone now due to hurricane damage. This Compass, has only been here in Flagler Beach a couple years and already going down hill... The staff however wonderful and made the best of it for the guests. The floors are filthy... Shower and walk through there are black imprints of your feet... The railings on the terrace seemed to have never been cleaned, as well as the chairs. One night the elevator broke down and they helped to get everyone up and down the stairs. The pool very small as well as the pool bar. I think maybe 10 chairs available due to lack of space. Same for the Rooftop Bar, seating outside minimal and the view is hard because of the way they built it. No mirrors aside from the restroom. No table though there were 2 chairs for one. No microwave. I will stop listing the cons... Pros, the beds are comfy, the food is great... Especially the chocolate cake in the downstairs restaurant... I wrote an email to the manager with no response. Given she owes us nothing, yet hope she read and corrected, retrained housekeeping and stepped up to make this hotel a wonderful experience. She plans to visit me again soon. Not sure yet where we'll stay. The residents of Flagler County were completely against this hotel but those in charge ignored us. We are one of the last little quaint beachside communities left and we want to keep it that way. We have wonderful restaurants and B&Bs. This was our first time away since the pandemic started so to say we were excited to getaway is an understatement. I worked throughout the pandemic and have been feeling burnt out. I actually planned this trip only a week or two before our arrival. Our ultimate destination was St. Augustine for hubs birthday and this would be a nice break in the road trip. We were trying to arrive prior to 6pm because that is when the innkeepers leave, according to the website. We live about 3 hours south from here and even though we left around 2pm, the wonderful traffic put us there very close to 6pm. I rushed inside and waited for the innkeepers/owners, who are Tommy and Liz. Tommy came in shortly to greet me and was very welcoming. Tommy was in the process of checking me in and offered beer or wine for us. I chose beer for hubs and white wine for me. Tommy asked what time we would like to come to breakfast, which included only 2 time slots. I am used to showing up to breakfast whenever and usually it being a buffet style so this was a surprise to me. I chose the later time, which was still very early for me. Tommy then showed us to the room and provided us with any important information. We unpacked the car and sat outside to enjoy our drinks and plan our next step. The room was very quiet the whole time we were there. The dining area is right next to us but we did not hear anything. Breakfast was good and the whole process was significantly longer than I expected. Everything is made fresh to order and I was not super hungry, as I usually am like this early in the morning, so I had to get some food wrapped to go. Tommy was very personable and telling us the history of how he and his wife started the Anchor Inn. We only had an hour before we had to check out so we used the remainder of time to pack up, relax, and have another cup of coffee. The room was small but not not too small. The bed was comfortable but the room was super hot and there was not a thermostat to control that-at least in the room for us to have access. The bathroom was gorgeous and very spacious. We very much enjoyed our time here and will definitely come back but maybe when then weather is way cooler, just so we can be comfortable in the room. The rates were also very reasonable but it does seem like they fill up the place a lot. Every time after I was looking to book after our visit, there were slim pickings for 2 months in advance. I must have been lucky when I booked this trip only 2 weeks in advance! There are only 2 pet friendly rooms FYI- The Butterfly Room and Beach Room, which the pet fee is added automatically to the total when checking out, if you have a pet.

I viewed the property in October on the day the owners were surrendering the property. My personal assessment is that it will take between $900,000 and $1,000,000 to purchase and restore it to its former glory. It is currently uninhabitable. I sincerely hope that the right person comes along so this piece of Daytona history isn't lost forever.

Each room has a different theme: fishing, flamingos, boating, etc. The cottages have porches on the front and even a side door through the kitchen! We love to park right outside the kitchen and it's easy to load and unload our vehicle. They are pet-friendly and when we arrive there are doggie bones on the pillows, so if you have pet allergies... ask in advance for a non-pet option, although I have allergies and the room is kept so clean my allergies really didn't bother me. They have a pool, which is always sparkly clean, but we usually visit in November so it's too cold to take a dip! The walk across A1A to their lookout deck is easy and gives a perfect view of the sunrise in the mornings. Just a few feed south of the deck is a walkway to the beautiful sandy beaches.

While we enjoyed our stay with the dogs -- they are so dog friendly, and even offer sheets to cover the futon in the living room and on the bed -- I don't believe I would stay here without the dogs. Hurricane Matthew really did a thing to the Whale Watch Motel in August 2016, ripping off a roof of one of their cottages as well as the facing of a couple of their buildings. This is unfortunate, and still under repair, but really doesn't account for the insides of the cottages that could use a bit of attention. Simple things need fixing -- no drain plug in bathroom sink, super cheap and broken soap bars (thankfully we brought our own), extremely rusty appliances (I get that the Florida salt damages items easily -- I live here too!), broken handle on the refrigerator, rusty metal shelves in the bathroom and kitchen, missing paint on the walls here and there...it's the little things that could be fixed or replaced while the big items outside (roofs) get some attention. Maybe even some nice landscaping in front of the units could be an easy project that would provide some curb appeal. We LOVE the location of this motel right across from a quiet part of Flagler Beach, but be careful crossing the street. The speed limit is 45, but cars were regularly going 60 and some were passing and weaving in and out. Just be extra careful. Units 9 and 10 face out toward the water, but the bummer is that people kept parking right in front of our building. Unit 9 had a better view than unit 10 for sure, but it was a shame that people would not park in front of their own units. There was no reason for them to park where they did, and block our view. We will stay here again with our dogs because Barry and Patricia are animal lovers and really make it easy on dog families, and with Flagler being a dog-friendly beach, it really is a great location. If traveling just as couples, I'm afraid I need something with a few extra bits of attention. They still get a 4 for their kind nature, clean toilets (!), and location.

From the beginning of the check-in process, she came across as impatient and unfriendly, despite her shift having just started. The property itself was great, but the customer service at check-in did not reflect the level of hospitality I expected. I hope management addresses this, as a courteous and respectful interaction can make a significant difference in a guest's stay.

Wifi was solid, we were working during our stay. Room was clean, but a little dated. Not enough USB charging ports or plugs for two of us to easily work from the room. While we loved sitting outside and the gorgeous views, we were plagued with wasps. We thought there was a nest on the roof, but maintenance said no. That wasps come to the top floor when its hot, and that we should just keep the door closed. So, maybe don't get a top floor room if you want to go on the balcony when its hot out. Parking is tough if you have a full size SUV or truck. There is overflow parking across the street, and they claim they've never had a break in. But personally, I would not want to park over there.

Eventually, someone came to ask if we wanted anything to drink and we both ordered coffee (which was very good); however, there was no silverware on the table so AFTER OUR COFFEE ARRIVED we asked for silverware and cream. We waited quite a while for the server to take our order. My wife ordered the Hero Breakfast sandwich ($14.50) and I ordered 2 eggs, 2 slices of bacon, and a well-done English muffin ($8.00) which was not well done when it finally arrived. We waited for more than 45 minutes for our orders and although the meals were good, it took too long for the meals to arrive. We also noticed that 4 other patrons had not received their orders and when their orders arrived, they too had no silverware or salt and pepper and had to ask for it. The staff was pleasant. The restaurant is pretty but waiting 45 minutes after ordering, is just too long for breakfast and will turn patrons away. They need to be sure that when patrons arrive, they put silverware on the table along with Salt & pepper. And they need to speed up service because taking 45 minutes to serve breakfast is just too long. We arrived at 9;45 and left after 11am. So, if anyone has a lot of time, this restaurant could work for them but unless you want to wait a long time, this may not the place.

The serving tray held small cucumber mint sandwiches and a classic (with a twist) bruschetta - tomato,basil, balsamic on a zucchini slice - as well as several desserts such as cheese cake cubes, carrot cake, and some sort of lemon curd in a puff pastry cup. And of course the tea - a lovely vanilla chai - that was perfect with everything. Carmen, our host, gave us info about the house, dating from the late 1800's, a Mother's Day trivia game, and TEA BINGO! We were able to tour some rooms in the B&B and there's also a cute gift shop selling all things Tea Party related. The High Tea ended with a glass of Mango Mimosa that just hit the spot.
