Feeling hot? Then The Freeze is for you. Well, it's for you if you enjoy ice cream and fast food and a feeling almost like some kind of small town spot from the 1950's or something out of a tv show about middle America. "Hey, wanna go down to The Freeze?" Sure, let's head on over! This Chestertown staple holds no place to actually sit as it's more of an indoor counter area where you'll order up and then eat outside (or in your car). You can't miss the place driving by. Between the giant frozen lettered logo and a life size replica of Mater from "Cars", you'll know you've found it. I've been here twice and both times it was for the same thing: a milkshake. Let's just say the second trip was due to the first. My girlfriend and I were here for round 1 a year ago in June and then again earlier this month. We entered post-dinner time and wanted dessert, choosing one of their many milkshake flavors. Peanut butter was the winner for us both and it did the trick with a vanilla base and plenty of what seemed to taste like Reese's as the PB. Don't like peanut butter? (Who are you!?) There's plenty of other options with more than fifteen milkshakes to choose from. Beyond that, you'll find a menu of fried food favorites and ice cream with tons of toppings, because it is called The Freeze, right? Right. Overall, The Freeze kinda feels like a place frozen in time from its old school looks and classic setup. It's no destination spot, but if you do find yourself in Chestertown on a hot summer day, get cool in here.

Visited from DE. Saw this nearby and wanted to try it out. My friend got a grilled cheese and that took little too long for them to make but i got ice cream and it was soooo good! Very old timey feel inside too! Something straight out of a movie lol.

The Freeze, which was once known as Downey's, is an old-school diner-esque carry-out place, serving up burgers, subs, ice cream, sundaes, and milkshakes. The hubs and I came here while we were in the area, and we ordered the following: an Oreo milkshake (this was not too thick and not too thin, had a good amount of Oreo within, and made with softserve; it was pretty good), a Butterscotch milkshake (I was not a fan of this, as it had no butterscotch taste to it; the vanilla soft serve also seemed to have been tainted with the butterscotch syrup that was supposedly used), and The Big Freeze (this was a Big Mac-esque type of a burger; a sesame seed bun filled with two juicy patties and all of the works, including Thousand Island dressing; this was really delicious! Since it was hot off the griddle, it was super hot and juicy; all of the condiments inside also made this burger pretty good - the relish, the ketchup, the mustard, the cheese, the onions, etc. It gets a little sloppy, but it's worth it!). Just note that there are a couple of benches to wait for your order to be ready, but it's strictly a carry-out place. The staff here are no-nonsense, but friendly. There's a $10 minimum, and plenty of parking in their private lot. +The Big Freeze! :D +Oreo milkshake +carry-out only +free parking

There is no place to sit inside or out. The staff seemed inexperienced. The ice cream was nothing special.

[Coronavirus review] This is one of a set of a half-dozen or…read moreso wooden shacks that appear to form the "downtown" of Rock Hall. They have an ordering window and a pickup window, and you can order while maintaining a reasonable distance. For some reason, they've renamed their mint chip and mint oreo flavors into something less intuitive, forcing me to ask and have them tell me that it was just mint chip and mint oreo. I ordered the latter, plus a scoop of black cherry. You might be skeptical of combining mint and cherry, but it actually works really well (as I've learned from getting the occasional cherry on top of mint milkshakes). The cherry had whole cherry pieces, and the price for two scoops was low, so I was satisfied. The mint was nothing special. They do have some flavored ice for someone wanting non-dairy refreshments. Presently, the bench next to this place is taped over, but it's not far to the bayside anyway and there's a small beach, so I say drive over while that ice cream's still cold.

Ever been to Rock Hall, Maryland? Quite possibly no...though maybe, just maybe you'll find yourself…read morein this area (due to the hour away neighboring Dover, Delaware) or perhaps traveling around the rural maritime-ness of this part of the Chesapeake Bay. If so, we all could use a little ice cream and I know just where you can "Get the Scoop." No seriously, that's where. This minuscule ice cream shack, located in the middle of this tiny town, is cleverly-named and can't be missed by the line of people wanting some sweets (especially if there's heat, ya know, from temperature). My girlfriend, her family, and myself found us here a few weeks back and dove into some ice cream that totally hit the spot. Made with what is apparently a local farm brand of ice cream (Kilby Cream), Get the Scoop has a respectable list of creations and toppings. Cookie Monster and Mootella (bet you can figure that one out) are just a few of the somewhat original offerings. My choice came in the form of Tractor Tracks: vanilla ice cream with, well, a lot of peanut butter. There were a few other ingredients mixed in, but the PB reigned supreme. Chunks of amazing nuttiness just knocked this cup of cream out of the park. Pricing was superb and there was plenty of outdoor seating scattered about to scoop up those...um...scoops. The only negative notion I can muster is a lengthy wait once ordering. This is probably because it seemed that ingredients were mixed into that Kilby Cream to concoct those edible options. A factor probably worth waiting for (because hey, it's tasty). Overall, Get the Scoop will give you what you want (as long as that's some good ol' ice cream). I mean, you may not find yourself in Rock Hall tomorrow (or the next day), but I promise if you do, dessert will be waiting.

I grabbed to go orders of the crab cake sandwich, side Caesar salad and the kicking crab soup. I also got the chicken wrap with a side Cesar salad for my dad. I didn't open the items up until I got to my location. Upon opening, there were a the few pieces of lettuce with 3 long shavings of cheese across for their version of a Caesar salad. Minimal dressing that tasted like just oil was placed on it. Very disappointing just by looking at it. The crab cake sandwich had no sauce, a thick piece of tomato and another piece of lettuce on the side. The crab cake which had a good amount of crab in it, lacked flavor and tasted like it was cooked in old grease. The kicking Crab soup tasted like water with a lot of black pepper and two pieces of crab meat in it. My dad had nothing good to say about his chicken wrap. For service and as a to go order, the waitresses were really nice. The ambiance was upscale dining experience with prices that should reflect in their food quality. $25 for a crab cake that tasted like it came from a gas station is not what I expected. Nor for it being paired with a few pieces of lettuce for their Caesar dressing. Maybe it was a bad day or, I'm not their typical customer. Either way, it's a first and last for me.
