I was super excited to try this place, but sadly it just wasn't it. I went for breakfast and although the place was packed we got a table fairly quickly and staff was really nice. I ordered the Acadian Breakfast Sandwich, which was ok, but nothing extraordinary. We missed having French Toast, so we decided to come back to where one the best in Lafayette is. Always worth the 20 minutes wait, as the service is on point once seated, and the casual family ambiance. I tried the boudin biscuits with steens syrup, and it was delicious, the bacon and toasted biscuits put this over the top, cheese grits were a nice side. The French Toast just tasted amazing, cream cheese filling and the berries matched perfectly with the bread. Definitely in our top 5 breakfast destinations in the US. read more

Came here around lunchtime today (a Saturday) with a couple of friends after the Scratch Kitchen, located nearby, had a ticket time of over an hour! I had never been before, but I was eager to try. When we walked in, I would say a little bit over half the tables had people sitting at them, and our group of three was seated after just a couple of minutes. Our server brought us waters and asked if we wanted anything else to drink, so I ordered a coffee cocktail (don't remember exact name, but it had cold brew, Jameson, and I think some other stuff too, but I forget tbh). The cocktail was brought out promptly, and it was great! The alcohol taste wasn't too strong, and I was impressed by the size of the cocktail as well. For food, I ordered the breakfast sandwich on a croissant with goat cheese, no avocado, and cheddar grits. That came out pretty fast as well, and it was super impressive looking and tasting. The grits had a nice gooey layer of cheese melted on top and tasted great. I wasn't too impressed by the croissant itself that my sandwich was served on and wish I had substituted the croissant on my sandwich for a spinach wrap, but that's more of a personal preference. Overall, though, the sandwich was tasty too! The goat cheese and chipotle aioli blended together to create this perfect creamy and tangy sauce that really enhanced the flavor of everything else on the sandwich. One thing that I really liked about the French Press overall was that even though it was a cute place downtown that served some really high quality food, it didn't take itself too seriously, which I think was a concern of mine coming to a place called "The French Press." The vibe was a perfect mix of classy, hip, and casual, and it really made me feel comfortable. I'll be back! There are so many good looking dishes on the menu I still want to try! read more

I've become a regular at the Broussard location. They do a great job of keeping the drive thru line moving. Used to order an americano but discovered the super hero sugar free. It's been awhile since we've had the opportunity to visit our favorite Lafayette brunch restaurant. Playing hooky on a week day is the best time to catch this spot without a wait. For starters, we shared a Sweet Baby Breesus and ordered a couple of cocktails, because you can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning. The Sweet Baby Breesus is a sweet and savory flavor bomb comprised of a biscuit stuffed with a fried boudin ball, bacon, and Steen's syrup. It never disappoints and today was no exception. For beverages, my hubby had the Stag O Lee, a bourbon, mint, Grand Marnier, and mint concoction. I had a The Grand - a mimosa with Grand Marnier. For entrees, he enjoyed the Croque Madame with truffle fries. The sandwich is piled high with the traditional ham and cheese filling, with the lovely addition of tomatoes, then drenched in a bechamel redundant with buttery richness. The French fries are twice fried and all that I love in a brasserie style fry. The Cajun Benedict is an over the top creation that starts with a base of French bread slices which are then topped with boudin, American cheese, and poached eggs. The whole glorious mess rests in a pool of some of the richest, most flavorful chicken and sausage gumbo I've ever tasted. The only weak point of our meal today was that the eggs were a bit overcooked. The atmosphere at The French Press is fantastic. The old printing press building retains much of its original charm. The service at The French Press can sometimes be hit or miss. Today was a hit, with James being attentive but not overbearing. We will return! read more

The food was absolutely amazing! I would visit lafayette again just for this restaurant. There was creativity and perfect execution. The boudin sliders stole our taste buds and the show but the chicken with the breakfast jam glaze was also amazing. Everybody can't make a good pancake but the fluffiness, consistency and firmness was amazing! The praline bacon was also a pleasant surprise. I didn't eat the cheese grits but my companion said they didn't disappoint! I definitely recommend this place. I was tempted to give it only 4 stars because of the service however. We were seated almost 15 minutes before a waitress came to take our order for drinks and the meal. That was irritating because the place isn't exceptionally big so not that many customers. A friend who is from Lafayette recommended The French Press for lunch. Unfortunately the popular Johnson's Boucaniere was closed the week of July 4th which was when we were passing through Lafayette so we decided to give the French Press shot. Being that their Chef Justin Girouard has been nominated for a James Beard award I had high hopes for the cuisine. The hipster interior is a large one room restaurant with high ceilings and a well stocked bar in the back. Looking around, the paint is left intentionally peeling off the wall leaving the wall exposed in several places. Large mirrors and wooden frames the walls and it feels like a place that used to be upscale but has been aged by time and wear. Although the restaurant really wasn't busy since it was lunch on a weekday, the service time was really lagging. It took us a whole hour from start to finish even though we were hoping for a quick 30-40 minute lunch as we had to get back on the road. Our server took a while to come around to us and we had to wait for a while to ask for our check and to get out of there. I ordered the boudin ball poboy and my boyfriend ordered the Couillon Burger. Being that I had never had boudin before I really wanted to try it and this sandwich was very rich but also downright delicious. I ended up only eating half of it and saving the other half for later. Besides the boudin balls it had praline bacon (I'm drooling thinking about this carmelized slightly sweet bacon), ham, scallions, cheddar and swiss cheese and mayonnaise. I would order this again in a heartbeat. The couillon burger description said "we dare you to finish it" but my boyfriend took on that challenge with ease and finished that 1/2 pound burger with it's glorious egg and bacon on top. Overall, the food was very good but the wait times just put us off since we waited over 30 minutes for our food to get to our table. I'm not sure if it was understaffed in the kitchen or they normally take that long, but as I mentioned it was not very busy so our expectations were not quite met in that area. If you are not in a rush then this is the place for you! read more

My last review for French Press was four stars, and I was really looking forward to upping that to five stars. I'm shocked and saddened by what happened today, and it pains me to have to write this review. We arrived for lunch today at 12:22 and were seated immediately. The service at French Press has never been super-speedy so we knew we were in for a relaxed lunch, but we did have to wait about 16 or 17 minutes before having our order taken. But good things take time, right? Thirty minutes passed. An hour passed. Our server assured us that our food was forthcoming, and she told us that they had a slowdown because the kitchen staff were distracted by a sporting event going on. Our party of four exchange glances among one another and winced; we had driven almost an hour to bring out-of-country guests to this restaurant, and the staff were too busy watching sports to cook our meal? It wasn't until 1:45 that two of our four dishes arrived. One of them was a hamburger that was so undercooked, that our server even agreed that it was inedible. She took it back, and we cancelled that part of our order; by this point we were ravenous and we split the remaining food among us just so we could get something in our bellies. We love French Press and we *want* to go back there, but they have got to sort this out. There are no lack of restaurants in the area that server phenomenal food, and we've never had to wait so long -- even at Michelin star restaurants where tasting menus are being prepared on the fly. Please, French Press. You have a wonderful location and a fantastic menu, and you could absolutely own the downtown Lafayette food scene. Please, get this sorted out so we can start bringing our out-of-country guests back to your delightful restaurant. read more

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY THE MOST DELICIOUS GUMBO IN LAFAYETTE!!! I first heard about it on a YouTube video and decided to come here when I was in town- & I was NOT disappointed at all. The service was okay, could have been better. Perhaps it was because the server was pretty new and wasn't as knowledgeable but it was not great & it was not terrible. Most of the other servers weren't smiling or as welcoming. The gumbo, however, was to die for! The food really topped it off for me. My boyfriend grew up in Louisiana and is a fabulous cook so he knew how to make gumbo. But the gumbo at The French Press was filled with seasonings straight from Louisiana and was just uber Delicious! The place itself had an antique look and an old vibe to it but it was an open space and had a lot of natural lighting. The old pictures on the wall and the rustic tables made it look super nice as well! The only thing I was not a fan of was the water to be quite honest. It had such a terrible taste for me. I didn't complain about it though because I didn't care that much about it. Is the water in Louisiana different or something?! While the food looks great, seems like your having the same staffing issues everyone else is having. but this was an issue of me just trying to get a cup of coffee. OMG...where to begin?!?! This place is a great hidden gem. My friend have been talking about going here for weeks and we finally made that happen. I looked at the menu a few days before going but that didn't prepare me for what the food looked like up close and personal (mouth is watering as I type). This place is a perfect place for catching a quick brunch or just casually hanging out. We walked in and grabbed a table. I was looking around while the waiters were delivering food to patrons. I didn't know what to order. I saw this homemade fries cover with an egg over easy. My eyes had seen glory! I tried to refocus my eyes back to the menu so I could find something. The waitress walked up and asked what we wanted to eat. My friend asked if I wanted a mimosa and I was like SURE! Didn't realize there was different kinds, this girl was hooked! So, I went ahead and ordered the breakfast sandwich with goat cheese and my friend ordered the chicken and waffles. That darn sandwich with that goat cheese was EVERYTHING!!! I started taking small bites to savor every bit of that sandwich. His chicken and waffles was out of this world. I don't like Steens Syrup, but gosh darn it, I loved it that day. We were visiting Lafayette from the New Orleans area and decided to try this restaurant. Definitely some pros and cons. We were seated right away and all of the staff we interacted with were super friendly. The stuffed french toast was absolutely delicious. However, our waitress was sweet but flakey. She took a long time to do simple things like bring me a spoon so I could eat my meal or bring us the check. The restaurant is VERY loud. It is so loud that it was difficult to talk to my husband across the table. It was hard to talk to the server which is likely why she didn't hear some of the things we ordered and never received such as a side of grits. I think it is partly because of the design with high ceilings, but I dont know how larger groups would be able to hear each other there. There is not official children's menu, you let them know what the kids want and it's a la carte. The cajun benedict could have been good if it wasn't soaking in it's sauce in a bowl. It was very one note and mushy. The sweet baby Breesus was just like a biscuit with sausage. Ours looked nothing like the pictures I've seen. It was flat and just okay. Next time in town we will bypass this restaurant, but if you do stop by get that french toast! read more

Still waiting, it's been an hour and we had to give up on waiting for a table and settle for the bar. They are severely understaffed in the kitchen because people are just sitting and waiting. It's 1:28pm on a Sunday and wouldn't come back because of the wait. Also, there were four ladies waiting to be seated and they were having drinks at the bar. Well they finally went to check on the hostess and she said that she had called them a while back, but the kicker is that they give you a pager and their pager never went off.. I ordered the Truffle Fries with Herbed Aioli dipping sauce for my daughter and I to share and it was exquisite. For my main course I chose the Cajun Benedict, which is again thanks to the Yelp reviews. It sounded so strange from the description and I tend to stick to less adventuresome foods in a restaurant I've never tried. But the reviews are A-AM-ZING so I decided to try it. Ummmmm. Yeah. Fifty seven minutes from ordering to food on the table, and my chicken fried steak was perhaps cooked for every one of those fifty seven minutes. The service was uniformly bad. Received (not greeted) by a person too busy to make eye contact, servers couldn't keep a coffee cup full, and finding an extra napkin took about seven minutes. Other plates at the table were better than mine. The boudin sliders were tasty, but accompanied by spongy, overcooked grits. Bacon appetizer was $4 for 2 pieces, and was tasty if insufficient. This place was really good the first time i went 11 years ago when i was visiting a friend. I don't know what happened! The bathroom was disgusting, and the floor was sticky. They use cheap gas station soap that stays on you until you have to cut your hands off to get rid of the smell. (I had to make a stop at CVS so I could buy some dawn dish soap so I can wash my hands in the parking lot with my bottle water.) I didn't have an appetite when my food arrived. I ended up packing it to go and left it in the car and threw it away the next day. What a waste. read more
