It's really uninviting in here now versus when they first re-opened and I found out why. Immediately after walking in, I got a snide remark of "Day three? Maybe you'll buy something?" And when I left without buying anything, I got pestered and called a "Transit Kid." I tried explaining that I can't see very well, so it takes me a while to look at all the small items/read price tags, but I could barely get a word in. I live nearby, so I'd often stop in after I got coffee next door until i had to leave and go to work. Telling people not to window shop at your antique/trinket store is absurd, and I REALLY hope you weren't insinuating that you thought I was stealing.

I love that the floor staff asks if they can help, and are quick to grab any unwieldy items so that I can shop easily and hands free. The variety of items that I find are always amazing and and always changing. I never know what Im going to find and I always go home with some amazing treasures that I didn't know I needed. The takeaway from this long winded review is this: EngelbergAntiks is my favorite downtown store and you won't be disappointed in popping in. If you're reading this and are worried about their 1-star reviews, please understand that most of the time it is because people try to palm the smaller items as this IS an antique shop. However, this business has cameras, and anytime potential thieves try that they get caught and come to the internet to fabricate lies to collect what's left of their ego after the owners chose NOT to get police involved, which they are totally within their right to do. My eyes darted around the room at all of the interesting pieces of their collections. There was a hall filled with more antique sculptures, vases and artwork that led to their main room that was busting at the seams with years of collections, carefully organized. They had everything from Mid Century Modern lamps to Native and western art, books and photos, vintage mugs and glassware, clothing and toys, vases and chotskies galore. The sign out front was somewhat confusing, I didn't know whether I was walking into an antique shop or an appliance repair shop, but apparently its both. There was a washer and dryer for sale, but they were also being used to display vintage pieces for sale. I spent quite a while perusing the aisles, and found a few new Tiki cups to add to my collection, a nice orange planter and some vintage calendars from 1968 & 1972 full of colorful prints. I love finding clever one of a kind gifts, and am sure my friend will appreciate receiving a memento from the year of her birth.

Visiting this shop is fun just for seeing the lovely old historic home, but they also have a lot of very good merchandise, from jewelry to kitchen items and knick-knacks to clothing, including designer labels. Everything is very fairly priced, and marked down every week or so, if you're willing to take the gamble and wait for markdowns. It is run by volunteers and provides income for a non-profit, so on top of getting good bargains in a very fun shopping environment, and reusing and recycling perfectly good items, you are also contributing to a worthy cause. It is affiliated with Encore Consignment, the sister shop to Daue. Encore carries furniture, books, artwork, etc. also at very fair prices, also generating income for the same non-profit, and also using the same periodic markdown on prices, also staffed by volunteers, and just a block or so away.
